During the summer transfer window, Liverpool were linked with a move for Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata, who was allegedly sought by Reds boss Brendan Rodgers as a makeweight in any deal to take Luis Suarez to the Bernebeau. The Uruguayan ended up staying at Anfield, but LFC legend Jamie Carragher insists that Morata is the real deal, and should move to the Premier League.
In his column for the Daily Mail this week, Carra named his top five potential transfers targets for the January transfer window, and named Morata as a player he'd love to see in the Premier League. He enthused:
"Morata is one of the hottest young strikers in Europe. We have seen the impact Gerard Deulofeu, another young Spaniard, has made at Everton and it would be intriguing to see Morata [in the Premier League].
In August, The Mirror reported:
"Luis Suarez will join Real Madrid, but only if the Spanish giants sweeten the deal with one of their most promising youngsters. Liverpool will not budge a penny below £40m, and they [LFC] have identified Alvaro Morata as a makeweight to ensure they get the full value".
Prior to learning of Liverpool's interested, the young striker - who was the top scorer (4 goals/2 assists) at this summer’s European Under-21 Championship - warned:
“If another striker is brought in, I will have to think about what’s best for me and consider leaving. If I go, I would prefer a move abroad.”
A few weeks later, when asked about the possibility of a move to the Premier League, Morata rejected the idea outright. He told Cadena Ser:
"I called the president and he told me that I will stay at Real Madrid next season. He is very happy with me."
Morata has two goals and one assist in 16 appearances for Madrid this season (only three starts), which isn't a great record, but he's also racked up eleven goals in twelves games for Spain's U21 side, which is probably what impresses Carra. U21 team-mate Thiago Alcantara certainly seems to think that Morata is heading for greatness, and over the summer, he told reporters:
“Morata is an exceptional player and he’s really given us a lot in this tournament. He helped us win the games that won us our group and get to the final too – he’s a great No9"
Luis Suarez recently signed a new deal at Anfield, but it reportedly contains a release clause that allows him to speak with Real and Barcelona if they make contact.
If that happens, and Suarez decides to leave for Madrid, perhaps Rodgers will once again insist that €12m-rated Morata is included in the transaction? If not Morata, are there any other Real Madrid players who'd be good makeweights in any potential deal?

Di maria probably? Or what about coentrao?
ReplyDeleteRonaldo? Surely Madrid don't want him any more.
ReplyDeleteIf we do lose Suarez, then we need to buy the best striker we can possibly attract. Is this guy it? Probably not. But he could be a good prospect, I don't really know anything about him though.
Does anyone think Liverpool could fork out cash to buy Messi? Rumours are he may be unsettled at Barca, and City will reportedly look into it. Just imagine if Liverpool finish really highly...and then Messi suddenly came in for a new challenge. I start laughing every time I think about it. Suarez and Messi in one team....and then the long queue of world class players to sign up as well...L O L. This comment is kind of tongue in cheek and will be laughed at, but hey, why not dream ;)
ReplyDeleteLast summer when the papers were constantly reporting that Liverpool FC WANT £40m for Suarez, everyone with an ounce of common sense thought "Thats a lie because they can yet double that amount due to the fact that he is seriously one of a kind and one of the best". How can any article that boasts that figure be considered factual in anyway?
ReplyDeleteYeah... Ronaldo can fill his shoes to a certain extent. But whether he can cope with the physicality and speed of premier league,I doubt. We also need to have an eye on the future. Morata can fit the bill.We also need financial compensation,So may be something paltry around 40 mil bucks, only if hard pressed. All this only if the best striker in the world decides to leave the new Premier league champions to join runner up of an inferior league.
ReplyDeleteOr we just keep Suarez...
ReplyDeleteAs for this kid - after being so very wrong about Sturridge, I think I'm no longer entitled to an opinion in regards to young strikers :-)
OFF TOPIC MAN U FANS ARE DEMANDING A 5% PRICE REDUCTION ON HOME MATCHES AS THEY ARE A LOT SHORTER NOW !!
ReplyDeleteNo
ReplyDeleteI'm also concerned about Skrtel's habit/tactic of shirt pulling & man handling in the box. It was greatly highlighted by TV commentators at the Cardiff game & is something he does regularly. I feel really nervous as he looks like a penalty waiting to happen & could cost us dear, especially against City, as refs are bound to be watching him more closely now. I hope BR has told him to cut it out.
ReplyDelete£16 million rated? you pluck that figure out of thin air?
ReplyDeleteIts xmas down under now so merry christmas all you fans out there and have a great new year.
ReplyDeleteLets hope santa sends B.R. something nice in the new year.
'Hottest striker in Europe?' I remember when Bawlotelli was the 'hottest striker in Europe.' C'mon Carra...How could this kid...who doesn't even play...be the hottest at anything? Hot means you're playing and scoring goals. Hottest means you're playing all the time and scoring more goals than anybody else. None of those characteristics apply to Morata. Sterling has more goals than Morata. They don't apply to Bawlotelli either...who was bawling about the reffing in another AC Milan loss. (You want to see over-rated, look the word up in the dictionary. I think Bawlotelli's picture is there.) He's wasn't even the third best striker at City last year and now he's not even the best former City striker playing in Italy. People with a voice worth listening to should not be cavalierly throwing out such phraseology when it's clearly out of sync with reality. It just makes people look elsewhere for credible opinions.
ReplyDeleteIt's a dream. Ok?!
ReplyDeleteso times i thinks this guy never play for liverpool i think shout it an say no moor what u think
ReplyDeleteI think what he means by hottest is not the vein of form he is in, but the value he has to his name. I have seen this guy play in the U21 European championship and he wasn't your typical Spanish player. He is very direct in the way he plays, and IMO he will suit the EPL very well. I heard Arsenal is interested, and knowing Wenger and his good eye for talent this guy has great potential. You can't call a player overated until you see him play at 23-25 years of age. He is 21. I Have no doubt Rodgers would help him develop. Just hope Wenger doesn't get him.
ReplyDeleteHim, Suarez and Sturridge. Would be a great forward line. Morata can also play as a RW.
ReplyDeleteWhat are you talking about? You do realise Ronaldo has already played in the Premier League right?!
ReplyDeletei wouldnt even want messi tbh
ReplyDeleteThe problem with skrtel is that he will play the man instead of the ball far to often
ReplyDeleteTHAT is fair enough. Lol
