Done Deal? 'Internal source' claims €25m attacker is 'very close' to LFC transfer...

Speculation over the future of Barcelona star Cristian Tello continues to intensify this week, and according to multiple sources, the deal to bring the exciting youngster to Anfield is all but done.

On Monday, Marca reported:

"Cristian Tello is very close to leaving the club in the January transfer window.

"According to Radio Barca, Tello is close to joining Liverpool on loan".

When asked during his press conference yesterday whether Tello is on his way to Anfield, Brendan Rodgers gave his usual non-committal response to transfer rumours. He told reporters:

"I'm sure that will be the start of it [transfer speculation]. There's nothing to add about anything with regards to players coming in. There's nothing imminent. The recruitment team are busy putting things together".

Last night, however, CNN journalist Tancredi Palmeri - who also writes for Italian newspaper Gazetta Dello Sport - claimed that a 'source' at Barcelona has confirmed to him that Tello is definitely joining Liverpool:

 photo ScreenShot2013-12-31at124059_zpse9beeae9.png

Tello signed a new contract in August (increasing his buyout clause to a whopping €25m), but with Messi and Neymar ahead of him, he's once again stuck in the role of perennial substitute, and unless something drastic changes, this is likely to be the pattern for the whole season.

In a recent interview, Tello hinted that he could be forced to leave if things don't change. He told Spanish newspaper Sport:

"Next year we'll see what suits me best. [I want to be] playing as much as possible but I know who I have in front of me. I know that I can perform at the top, but that's the coach's decision"

In September, Tello confirmed LFC's interest. He told Marca:

"I knew that Liverpool were interested in me, but I never planned to leave. I always wanted to stay at Barca. The coach has confidence in me, I am content there and ready to play a lot of minutes".

Tello - described by Tito Villanova as 'special' - was allegedly reduced to tears recently by Lionel Messi after the Argentinean targeted him for some dressing room harassment. According to Yahoo Sports:

"Messi's favourite victim at the moment is said to be Cristian Tello, to whom Messi has apparently delivered such gems as "What are you doing? You're new here, and you're nobody!" and "Pass me the ball, you're here to play for me"

Who knows whether this is true or not, but if it is, then Tello seemingly faces a long, hard road to acceptance at the Nou Camp. One issue to consider is Tello's position. He generally plays out wide for Barcelona, but according to the player in a recent interview, he prefers to play centrally:

"I think they know how fast I am and how I’m always available. That is what I’ve asked of the coach and the team that if they can’t find a way through the middle, they always have me out on the wing.”

If Tello signs in January, he'll find it tough to play through the middle with Suarez, Sturridge and Coutinho at Anfield, but either way, he'd certainly be a great transfer for the club.

Having said that, it would be so much better if the Reds pursued a permanent deal. It's hard to build a team around players who may leave the club in less than six months, so although Tello would be a good addition, I'd personally prefer LFC left it and signed a similar player on a permanent deal.

  1. All the narrow minded. You had a dream to play in Barcelona. During the last couple of years Barcelona became disgusting in a lot of manners. Messi screams at you and you cry. Get out of that club! Be brave and emjoy LFC succes.

  2. could be like deulofeu

  3. i prefer permanent deals rather than loans tbh. just look at moses, complete waste of time and never gives more than 50% imo.

  4. I would love this but I am very skeptical. If there is truth in it a permanent move would be better but if he helps us get Champo that strengthens us as a club in the transfer market. The level of player we need will be more willing to come to us.

  5. At last the answer as to why Texiera is continually overlooked by Rodgers - He see nothing, having to be informed the next day by reporters (what all the world had known for a day) that Mourinho had bad mouthed Suarez and that two players ex changed shirts at half time. I will not mention Texiera again until if ever he is included in the firstteam squad. ps Brendon I will keep you informed for free, give me your number. those paid to do it obviously dont - or you could just take the blinkers off. good luck tomorrow.

  6. Is he good enough

  7. If he's not good enough for barca why is he good enough for us

  8. I almost took you seriously then.

  9. Loan deal with option to sign would be exciting.

  10. moses is average at best and was a bit of a panic loan ( again) tello at least has quality but is he what we need ,ive a feeling tello will be another square peg round hole signing

  11. Unusual looking player. Has fairly quick feet, but sometimes his control seems to be on the edge; maybe an issue with composure. Likes to beat a player from a yard away rather than up close, which helps him to be direct, but also means he relies on pace to carry the ball beyond the defender into space; and his pace, whilst adequate, doesn't look exceptional. Compare him to Sterling, who can -- or anyway thinks he can :) -- beat a man from standing start with a trick *or* feint and go for pace. Sterling also has a through-ball as well as a cross or dash and cut-back. Tello doesn't seem to have those options, but he does look to have a well-organised approach to his game.

Though he gets to the byline with ease he tends to get his head down when he's in the box; those cut-backs of his aren't the best. Reminiscent of an English-style winger of old, a John Barnes type -- not that I'm comparing them for quality, obviously, though there's no evidence of Barnes' passing ability. Or, and this might be interesting, of a striker forced to play wide. This might be what's attractive about him to Rodgers, who likes his wingers to play from outside to inside-forward, within the width of the penalty area. Tello looks to me like he might flourish in that kind of role. But overall he doesn't look like the kind of player who would improve our league performance immediately. A quality squad player for sure. Has anyone seen more of him and have a better opinion, though?

My fingers are crossed for Shaqiri. He would be perfect for us; and we would be perfect for him. The intense competitiveness of the premier league would really bring out the best in him, I think. He's so courageous and brave (just kidding JK)! But I can't really see it happening, can you?

  12. He is training with the team at Melwood!!.................patience!!!

  13. Talented, similar to Sterling. Also raw and quite young. As I've mentioned, we need a couple of player s on the 25-26 years old range, that are ready to be starters on a championship league level team...I don't know if Tello is that kind of player yet. Rakitic anyone?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Rakitic has the likes of PSG after him....

  15. Do u think Morata and Tello should be on LFC buy list?(As opposed to loan). And has BR forgot about Texiera.....? Hope Brendan goes for rotation policy with special youngster at these upcoming matches...Also many times Diame from WHU has been mentioned from the posters here, if LFC going cheap, is that a good buy?( just asking!)

  16. Ok but we need to give it a try. Players that are starters on their national team and can be important in a champions league level team are going to cost money. If the clubs message is; we are a top 4 league team, we want to attract players like Suarez and we are aiming to be a factor in the most important club tournament soon, that's the type of signing we need.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I agree. Would prefer Rakitic to Tello, but realistically Tello is more likely

    ReplyDelete
  18. We work what we have got. Loan/Permanent, at least we get someone of quality before our players drop like flies.

    ReplyDelete
  19. So all loans end up like Moses do they? Tell that to Everton who now sit above us with 3 loanees as their standout players!!

    ReplyDelete
  20. And probably running rings around them - he is 21 - Brendon picked a 16 year old as sub - only Stirling of the Academy players who have made the first team is comparable - he is light years ahead of the others who have played. Suso is not as good.

    ReplyDelete
  21. we need a defensive midfielder and an attacking player who can keep hold of the ball i cant see how tello fits in when all players are fit

    ReplyDelete
  22. Add depth for the Champions League push. I'm fine with that. Would prefer loan with option to buy, but if it helps us get higher in the table for the immediate future I'm all for it.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Jaime, you'd said the same thing about Aly Cissokho, that LFC should have bought him permanently instead of a loan deal. Well, I think the loan was a smarter move as it has turned out that Cissokho isn't good enough and he will be shipped back to Valencia. If Tello can't fit in then it won't be a too big of a loss.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Thank god we loaned Moses because we were trying to sign him permanently and that would of been a waste like Aspas, were if you loan a player like tello it gives you 6 months to look closely at him and decide whether we will sign him! We're we will just get rid of Moses now with out paying 10 million for him... The loan system is the way forward for liverpool, instead of signing these players for 10 or 15 million and getting sold, you can loan them and have the option to buy at the end of it, if this player impresses YNWA

    ReplyDelete
  25. Why do people always pop up and claim I said things I didn't?! I never said LFC should sign Cissokho permanently. I questioned why LFC were not signing him on a permanent deal, and suggested that it's because he's only a stop-gap, and that Rodgers doesn't really trust him:

Also, read the last paragraph re my prediction for Cissokho (which has come true)

  26. He looks like he can play, personally I feel loans are a good way to find out if a player can adapt to a different league without spending a big transfer fee, which is clearly what Rodgers is trying to avoid, wasting more money after some poor dealings in the transfer market in the past, Moses was a frustrating signing because he clearly has ability, just doesn't put the effort in.

    And Mascherano wasn't too bad.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Unlike moses who has a guaranteed starting spot in the WC for Nigeria, tello has mad competition to be even considered a winger on the bench for Spain. I just want to see him be used and with an option to purchase good reinforcement but we need CMCMCMCMCM been hearing about Jorghino and Badu.

    ReplyDelete
  29. deulofeu, lukaka and barry are far superior than moses...that is why. if you think moses sits on par with them youre having a laugh.

    ReplyDelete
  30. im not saying loan deals are pointless, im saying i would rather have a player in the books that gives 110% every match rather then someone like moses imo.

    ReplyDelete
  31. How does Tello say he prefers to play down the middle?!

    ReplyDelete
  32. How do players on loan hell LFC? under Benitez we never did this, only mid-take teams invest on loaning players. He will be our 3rd loanee.

    ReplyDelete
  33. The deal would still be fine if we have the option to buy, thats the key. Hes an excellent player.

    ReplyDelete
  34. the way rogers and his signings are shaping hed better make them all loan deals

    ReplyDelete
  35. So what, is he going to be a Messi? I think this is ridiculous once again from rodgers if true. Its a typical signing likes, sahin assaidi alberto aspas cissokho allen moses etc. Until when we will fool ourselves with these moves, cant rodgers see its not working? Dear rodgers buy a 50m player who can change the game when you need most, who can help you massively winning trophies just like suarez, enough with these saltless jokes.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Well not according to Rodgers he's not. When asked about Tello he laughed and said absolutely nothing in it

    ReplyDelete
  37. So we would have been stuck with Sahin, Moses and Cissokho on our books. Thank god we can just send them back!!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Salah is a very good player in my opinion. No way Saqiri happens

    ReplyDelete
  39. Hes saying that about every single player if you notice it, I remember so well he was denying hard talks of sturridge coutinho and more about cissokho but they all ended up here, hes not loyal at all.H

    ReplyDelete
  40. Even is we get Salah tello Montoya who can play centre def.
We need left and right back who attack and defend and are wingers

    ReplyDelete
  41. It's a good move. Coutinho needs competition for his place. I think some bench warming may do him some good.

    ReplyDelete
  42. no chance Westham will let Diame go in Jan. They are fighting for survival this season.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Messi sounds like a royal c*** if that's true. And yet they talk about CR7 being a little bit of a douche, just because he's a bit more fashion conscious and has more command for it. I like Ronnie. So Messi would definitely take the biscuit if that quote is true.

    ReplyDelete
  44. i prefer signing tello on loan and then go for a permanent deal when the loan deal ends and sign rakitic on a permanent basis

    ReplyDelete
  45. £50 million, FSG have the money not BR, we are not a super rich club. Our record signing was AC, look at that piece of business.

  46. Mr. Point Of View8:12 am, January 01, 2014

    Recall Suso !

    ReplyDelete
  47. This is a fake rumour. Barca are not so stupid that they will let him leave in January. They need all their players in the Spring.

    ReplyDelete
  48. i think a loan is the correct choice at this stage, LFC really need to spend transfer funds on a quality CDM and a leftback - but this guy i feel can bring something new and if he really has the correct mental strength and desire it can be win win - the only reservation i have is that does he really want to play for LFC or Barc?

    ReplyDelete
  49. I don't think the contract has much of a bearing on how they perform its more down to the individual. Look at glen johnson he is supposed to be one of our top players of international quality yet since the utd game he's decided the ball is red hot so he gets rid asap and his first touch always seems to go straight to the opponents. If kelly isn't fit we need wisdom back johnson is total rubbish

    ReplyDelete
  50. Tello will not be moving in this window. He will review his position at the end of the season.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Woah there. Slow down, suso is one of the best players to come from our academy and trust me on this, he may not be as good as sterling but he is still very close. Just look at how he is playing in La Liga. Something like 3 goals and 7 assists. We could really do with his talents right now.imagine all of his key passes falling to Suarez and sturridge instead of a mediocre finisher like Rodri.

    ReplyDelete
  52. He has a 3.5million buy out clause. WHU have no choice if someone gives 3.5 million.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Montoya is the left/right back. You may be confusing him with Marc Bartra, another Barca player we have been linked too who is a cb.
