Advantage Liverpool? - Boss responds to LFC rumours re 'excellent' £15m maestro

Liverpool's midfield capitulation at Arsenal yesterday underlined once again the importance of bringing in real competition to challenge Lucas, Gerrard and Henderson, and one name constantly linked with an imminent move to Anfield is Derby County maestro Will Hughes. Brendan Rodger is reportedly 'desperately keen' to sign the youngster, and with Andre Wisdom now on loan at Derby, some may think that gives Liverpool an advantage when it comes to negotiations. Alas, according to Derby Chief Executive Sam Rush, that's not the case at all.

Recent reports claim that:

* Rogers is currently trying to persuade FSG to stump up £15m fee for a January purchase, though he'll try and get the fee down.

* Hughes - who is allegedly a 'Liverpool nut' has his 'heart set on a move to Anfield'.

* Chief LFC scout Dave Fallows has watched Hughes numerous, and the youngster is seen as a potential long-term replacement for Steven Gerrard".

Rush admitted last week that Hughes is in 'great demand', but when asked if the loan-signing of Wisdom gave Liverpool an advantage in the race for Derby's prize asset, he explained:

“Andre was top of Steve McClaren’s list of people he wanted to bring in to strengthen the squad. So no, there is no connection with Will Hughes at all. There has been no further movement in terms of Will. From our point of view, we are just looking forward to watching him continue to play for Derby County.”

When asked last Monday about Hughes' future, new Derby County manager Steve McClaren conceded that the rams face a tough task keeping the youngster. He told reporters:

"Our job is to make sure he [Hughes] makes it, but eventually he will be too good. What we need behind that is players coming through to replace him."

Liverpool have been scouting Hughes for months now, and in August, The Independent claimed:

"Liverpool are close to agreeing a deal for Will Hughes. Hughes has been watched extensively over the last six months by Liverpool scout Barry Hunter".

In a recent column for the Daily Mail, Jamie Carragher highlighted Hughes as one of the top young players in the country. He enthused:

"His [Hughes'] reputation is growing by the week and he was excellent when England’s Under 21s demolished Scotland 6-0 earlier this month. The way he carries himself and the way he passes the ball suggest he has got a big future".

Is it possible that Rodgers is using Wisdom as a pawn in the long-game to capture Hughes? Perhaps. When the time comes, LFC maybe will offer Wisdom plus cash for the midfielder, and if Wisdom is an integral part of Derby's team by that time, it may be hard to say no...

The fact that Hughes is a Liverpool fan would also seem to weigh heavily in Liverpool's favour, but money talks, and if the Reds don't meet the asking price, or Hughes is offered more money at another club, his alleged Liverpool allegiance could ultimately count for nothing.

  1. hes good but not for 15m. we should try get him for £10M and do a deal with derby to send our players there. We need to go all out for Stefan El-Shaarawy and try to buy Pastore. then we will be looking like a title challenging side. I reckon El-Sharaawy will cost about £20M and Pastore the same. £40M for two genuinely quality players who could take our side to the next level

  2. I'm sorry but LFC should seriously consider investing good money in someone with experience for the obvious deficiency we keep demonstrating ie a midfielder who defends and attack with quality. Henderson is great at breaking up play but once possession is gained he doesn't really capitalise (a-la cissoko of old).

  3. A bit discouraged with Rodger's tiki taka , 3-5-2 and what not after yesterday's performance
    .
Martinez is doing a good job at everton and they are putting up a decent display in the league. He did not go to everton to say things like '... expect us to be thrashed very often...' or '... it'll take long long time...' etc

Just wanted to highlight that yesterday we were very weak in midfield and I just remember that Nuri Sahin was returned back to Dortmund shortly after leaving us. Everyone knows the performance he is putting overthere.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Were you "discouraged" when we were winning with the 3-5-2?

And we are currently ahead of Martinez & Everton in the league... If they are doing a "good job", how does that describe our current display?

We could've got Wanyama for less....

    ReplyDelete
  6. Surely he is one for the future. We need more proven quality in midfield now

    ReplyDelete
  7. pastore would do nothing to help us with br's pressing philosophy... i've watched him play and he's fantastic on offense, but once the ball is with the opposition he just walks around.

  8. nuri sahin plays the same role as gerrard does at dortmund. the only thing is that dortmund have engine players (like bender for example) everywhere that they can compensate for sahin's lack of mobility (although his interceptions are normally quite good).

    ReplyDelete
  9. :( i know right... imagine a wanyama, henderson, gerrard or even a
    -----------------lucas------------
--------wanyama---henderson--- midfield. Why does everyone think we need more "creativity," what we need is mobility and technique. We don't need ozils, we need ramsays.

  10. I'd be pretty disappointed if we spent that much on him. As much as I would like to see him come here, we need to bring in definite top end Premier League quality to the midfield if we're going to challenge for a top four spot after January. £15m would go a long way to getting that.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Like him a lot BUT its time to ditch the youngsters who are good but not good enough - we have 15 players on the books who we would not miss one bit. QUALITY PLEASE. Its also time to ask serious questions to the likes of always on the sick Kelly - who had the cheek to stall on a new contract - he has done NOWT

  12. All very well talking about Jan. signings. But, remember, all our rivals will be doing the same. After ten games we now have a good idea how those rivals are doing. My observation is that it is quite possible that a finish as low as eighth is quite possible for us. I only say, possible. I desperately hope I'm wrong.

Southampton's clean sheets are not purely down to the defence or the form of Boruc. It's the midfield - working like their lives depend on it and cutting any threat out at source. If we are going to change our whole formation and style to accommodate Coutinho-Suarez-Sturridge, then we need some dynamism in the midfield. And some heart and lungs.....

    ReplyDelete
  14. Based on What? Your gut instinct?
After 10 games we have more points than any other of the last 10 seasons bar one. A continuation of this level of performance, ie 2 points a game average, gives us 76 points in total for the season. Good enough for 4th in EVERY season since we last made the CL and as high as 2nd in some years , generally getting 3rd.
You desperately need to think before your predictions.

    ReplyDelete
  15. By the way, on Hughes. When I first saw him play early last season, I disgusted my son by saying then, that I would swop him for Suso, who I feel is a bit too lightweight.

    ReplyDelete
  16. suso is doing so great in spain, his potential is enormous! you cant compare a Gerrard like player (Hughes) with a Coutinho type of player (Suso)

But we can also look at it the other way; our best start in ages and we haven't been able to pull away from the pack. United are only 3 behind us now, and they have been a shambles.
I personally don't think we have been as fluent as we were second half of last season. I think some of the changes in personnel at the back were unnecessary (other than Carra...!!!)
If we can stay in touch by the end of December (City away, Chelsea away) then I think we should be ok.

    ReplyDelete
  18. AndWithSuchSimplicity6:50 pm, November 03, 2013

We should blackmail Alonso into coming back. Anyone got any dirt on him...??? ;)

    ReplyDelete
  19. If we beat Arsenal at Anfield, which we should with home advantage, that nullifies yesterdays result.
The most important thing is that we learn from the defeat, and improve from it.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Just need that bit more steel in midfield, think the forward play is fine and defense will settle (although would like to see the defensive choices/changes reduce) but Midfield is where i see we are either winning or loosing the game - more penetration and final product to counter act the fluid front line (those 20/30 yard screamers are missed from Gerrard hey day)

    ReplyDelete
  21. No Mike. Based on how I see the rest of the top bunch playing. I see that I actually said "possible", three times. So, not really a prediction. Lighten up, mate. YNWA ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  22. Fair enough matey, although if we keep winning most games it doesn't matter how well the others play we will get enough points for the top 4
I'm quite lighthearted actually- we'll not finish as low as 8th I'm pretty certain of that

    ReplyDelete
  23. Refereeing this weekend has left me baffled

Liverpool denied a possible goal because Sagna had to be booked. Cynical rugby tackle then we weren't allowed to play on quickly

Lukaku getting a yellow for accidental collision

I don't think the game was all as bad as everyone is making out. Suarez hit post, missed a 1 on 1, Sturridge fluffed a header and keeper hit Sturridge with a kick out

Back 3 were all over the place for periods

Cissokho is a donkey. If he had sprinted to match Sagna before the pass was played everything woulda been fine

Arsenal were silky about midfield but where are we going to get the cash to build such a midfield?

I am really worried about the future for us. We need top four to avoid a future in wilderness. If Suarez stays in Jan and Coutinho / Sturridge stay fit we have a chance. Then need a splurge on 4/5 top midfielders

City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs midfield put ours to shame. Why did we pass on Ericksen?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Yes....Alonso,Lucas And Gerrard. Our Midfield Will Be The Most Mobile And Have Lots Of Pace In The League.

    ReplyDelete
  25. As painful as it sounds, the truth is that we need a complete midfield overhaul in order to challenge at the highest level! As much as I love Lucas, his frailties as a defensive midfielder were exposed by arsenal! Time after time after time he was caught out by Arsenal's movement, constantly getting drawn to the ball. Henderson, for all his work rate has no composure what so ever and Gerrard's best days are behind him. Hopefully we can stay in the race for the top 4 and strengthen with one or two quality centre mids, especially with a bit more creativity. It also might now be the time for Joe Allen to prove his worth!

    ReplyDelete
  26. £60-70m you're living in cloud (football manager) cookoo land, and we'd do well to get £20-25m to spend in Jan.

So much negativity on this forum. Yes Arsenal deserved the victory but contrary to what the majority of posters are stating we competed and created chances. People seem to forget, a) we we're playing away from home and b) we were playing the team which has shown the best form in the league this season. Had that game been at Anfield in all likelihood our game would have been a level higher and Arsenal's a level lower, which would have been enough to get something from the game,

From the form we've shown so far this season we should be making a strong shout for a CL place, which realistically is all anyone could expect. And so far there have been many more positives than negatives to take away from the season (eg SAS, Sakho, Mignolet, and an improved ability to grind out 3 points from games we would have previously drawn / lost).

Saturday could have been worse, just ask a Chelski fan.

    ReplyDelete
  27. PS People keep on listing a long list of Aresnal players who we're missing on Saturday due to injury or suspension. But in reality whilst I'm sure they would have made good subs, only Flamini could have been classed as a near certain starter for that match. Given we we're missing our first choice wingbacks there is a strong arguement that it was our starting lineup which was was the more significantly weakened by injury.

  28. Owen, You clown. The owners have used the time they spent 115m with Dalglish not to spend any serious money, but when they spent 115m. The club had brought in 80m on player sales, so FSG spent net Value of 35M, not 115M.

This summer Carroll was sold for 18M, shelvey 6M and Downing 6M thats 30M.

Toure was free, Aspas 7.7M, Alberto 6.8M, Mignolet 9M, Llori 7M and Sakho 16M= That is 46.5M

So FSG in summer spent 16.5M

The owners need to back Rodgers well with 60-70M its fact, we need players of Coutinho and Suarez's ability in attack.

And we can no longer waste peanut money on potential, we need players who will hit the ground running straight away like Sturridge and Coutinho.

As if we do not make Champions League this season, Suarez is 100% off and then trying to bring class, quality players to club will become ridiculously harder as Gerrard is on his last legs and on way out.

Even Southampton spent over 50M this summer on players and look at the force they are, Cardiff and Swansea spent 30m on players. If you want the top players in football nowadays you need to spend well.

    60-70M to bring in 6 players= 10M- 12M per player.

Whilst shipping out some of the dead wood players at club and bringing some money back to club: GK Jones, RB Flannagan, CB Coates, FD Aspas, FD Borini and RW / RWF Assaidi.

In the summer Rodgers wasted 15M on Alberto and Aspas, where he should have spent 20M on Capoue and Eriksen who both ended up at Tottenham.

In January the owners need to give Rodgers some serious investment to spend 60-70M , so he can bring in class, quality players. No potential, No Flops, class, quality players who can and will hit ground running straight away.

Our main problems is lack of mobility, steel, strength, pace, creativity, competition for places, goals from centre of park and lack of class, creativity and goals from out wide in side.

Midfielders and wingers are desperately needed:

    3 Midfielders are needed:
2 Creative Offensive Centre Midfielders to take over from S Gerrard and Compete with Allen and Henderson for now and Future.

And a mobile, quick, strong, tough tackling defensive midfielder is needed to compete and Cover Lucas Leiva.

Owen , to bring in 3 good midfielders will cost club 35-40M alone

And then to bring in two class quality wide men, will cost club at least 30M, as the best wingers in world football start at 30M. so to get two good class wingers club will need to spend at least 30M

  29. Gerrard just not suit in tat role..That all ! Is all about the tactical, the instruction given to him..

    ReplyDelete
  30. AndWithSuchSimplicity8:46 am, November 04, 2013

My point was that if we are going to have a slow player in the team, at least have one that is world class and who is able to dictate the tempo of the game.
I would bring Alonso in no question. To REPLACE either Gerrard or Lucas.

Just hope it's nothing to do with 't-shirts' or being an 'uncle Tom'.
    That would just be bitter.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I didn't like the t-shirt thing but that isn't why I dislike him, so I don't hold it over him. If he was a continuous offender with such so-called controversies, I don't think it would be bitter.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Flamini, Walcott and Podolski normally start for Arsenal at Home if they are fully fit. Podolski and Walcott are their injection of pace and speed in attack. And if they were both fit , both were more likely to start than not.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Pace, speed are two basic things good wingers have in their locker. But to have good football brain, touch, class,, quality and be able to regulate create good goalscoring opportunities for your team mates and scoring goals from out wide. seperates average , class and world class attackers. Do you think Messi, Neymar, Bale, Ronaldo, Di Maria, Pedro, Sanchez, Robben, El Shaarwaay, Salah, Reus would be world class players without their pace or speed?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Pastore, El Shaarawy and Iturbe in that order.
If any money left over move for Hughes and Amartay

    ReplyDelete
  36. He looks good. and hes got a good work rate as well. to complete our squad I think FSG need to back BR big time with a big £60M kitty in January to takeover. We should buy Ayew for £7M. buy Diame for £7M. buy El-Shaarawy for £18M. and buy Shinji Kagawa for £20M as competiton for Coutinho. all together that is £52M for 3 genuine quality players in El-sharaawy, kagawa and diame. and ayew as a decent CL quality backup option. and then hopefully if we make CL qualification, we have £8M to buy Loic Remy. then we would have Suarez, Sturridge and Loic Remy as our forwards. Kagawa, El-Sharaawy and Coutinho as our maestros. diame, gerrard, lucas and alberto as our central midfielders. looking like a real PL winning side

    ReplyDelete
  37. precisely my point re Henderson. What do you do once you've regained possession? Therefore, from the comfort of my own home, might I suggest that Gerrard be the one defensive/holding mid in place of Lucas and introduce someone who can both attack and defend (maybe even Joe Allen).

    ReplyDelete
  38. we should... but why would man utd. ever sell kagawa to us

    ReplyDelete
  39. because if were still above United by January, he will be interested as we can offer him consistent first team football.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Alonso could be used as an alternate for Gerrard, both can play the deep lying playmaker role, they both have the passing range as the legs go with age, but of more importance is the goalscoring midfielder and an enforcer, two must haves for January. ,

    ReplyDelete
  41. AndWithSuchSimplicity12:41 pm, November 04, 2013

I don't think that wearing a t-shirt could be classed as an 'offence' nor 'controversial'.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Agreed, January should be about dealing with our current deficiencies, and we clearly need an experienced attacking mid and a defensive spoiler. Hughes is good, and if we can set up some kind of first option or an opening to get him in the summer then by all means do so, but perhaps we do not need him right at this moment when we need experience and ability, not just potential.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Salah, Pedro and El Sharray aren't world class players but they are good players. Salah plays for FC Basel and no disrespect to the Swiss league it's hardly a tough league. Pedro isn't a starting eleven player. Ok he probably would be for most teams but I wouldn't say he is world class, he lacks that something for me. El Shaaray isn't experienced enough to be considered world class.

Alexis Sanches is hardly a bullet. He's fast but he's not bullet fast like some of the players you mentioned.

Messi, Ronado are just pure footballing genius and still would be world beaters without pace and Di Maria, Neymar and Reus (Often used as an attacking midfielder) would still be world class. Robben possibly would still be and Bale I am not to sure. The difference is between Walcott and these players they have a footballing brain and know how to use that speed to their advantage and Walcott often finds himself running into a difficult position and unlike the players mentioned he doesn't consistently get accurate crosses when running at speed.

World class wingers who aren't fast. Iniesta, Luis Suarez (can be used there) Hulk, James Rodriquez, Lamela all world class players and aren't really that fast.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Mid-fielders...we need mid-fielders.

    ReplyDelete
  45. As an impact player to change the game. Say Arsenal are getting put under a lot of pressure and the oppositions defence are pushing high up Arsenal could then bring Walcott on to exploit the space at the back. that's what I meant as an impact player. Also the opposition would be tired so his pace would be effective against them especially if they've been up against a different type of winger the whole game. They would have to change the way they are defending which is difficult that late in the game.

Walcott can cross the ball when he is thinking about it which is where the assists most likely came from but when he is running at full speed and not thinking his crosses are quite poor. Most of his goals come because of counter attacks which obviously used because of his pace. I never said speed wasn't good for counter attacking which obviously for counter attacking is the most important thing you need but being good at counter attacking doesn't make you a good player. Ok 14 goals in 32 games yes on paper is good but Suarez last season had 30 goals in 41 games last season but I wouldn't say his is a brilliant finisher because of how many shots he actually had and missed. That was far superior to any other player in the league last season. My point there is stats aren't everything. It comes down to what was the manner of the goals and most of Walcotts were from counter attacks.

    ReplyDelete
  46. He gets credited for his link up play a lot more, which is something Defoe doesn't do as well, or so I'm told/hear.
But ultimately goals is what a striker is meant to deliver.
Maybe he would benefit from playing with another striker?

    ReplyDelete
  47. Lolz, Hamman is a good example of the 'say what you see' simple football pundit we have to put up with.

Soldado has had very poor service and has looked very dangerous when he's played with Eriksen.

Ps. Lamela is a winger/No.10 not a striker, so Hamman mentioning him as a direct rival to Soldado shows the level of research he does as a 'pundit'.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Hamann is an idiot. Just look at the spanish Arsenal striker, last season he looked pants, this season he looks great. Give Soldado support not 'bullshit' comments from someone who doesn't understand.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Why cant we expense Gerrard & Lucas . Neither turns up in such abig game as V Arsenal. Baffled...

    ReplyDelete
  50. Are you on drugs? Sanchez not fast, he is rapid quick and probably Barcelona's quickest player. El Shaarwaay is world class and so is Salah, both their clubs playing in champions league. The best and hardest competition in the world and everytime i have seen them two players play in Champions league, they have alienated full backs and shown their class and ability. And in football. the champions league is probably ranked ahead of even the Euros and World cup. Iniesta is not a winger, Suarez is not a winger and Neither is Hulk, But all them players do have pace and speed. They are not all jet heeled sprinters, but they all have pace, speed. And Rodriguez has some pace.

The best wingers in world football all have pace and speed: Di Maria, Pedro, Sanchez,Neymar, Navas, Ronaldo, Robben, Ribery, Salah and Reus.

Walcott has improved over the last few years and in all honesty in last few years its him who has caused i club the most damage. i don't get some fans, walcott would offer more creativity, class and goals this season than all three of our wingers. Walcott averages 15-25 goals a season whether scored or created. Ibe, Moses and Sterling out of over 50 games a season will struggle to get 12 between them. So how can you criticise Walcott, when we have better wingers at the club who regularly create and score goals for our club then we can criticise but until then don't as me like Most fans would have Walcott any day out wide than any of the wingers we have at club.

As no matter how poor you claim his football brain is every full back in world football has to be always on their toes and he stretches teams at will

    ReplyDelete
  56. Sanchez is quick off the mark but that doesn't make you fast. Salah is not world class. Yes he looks good but FC Basel aren't in the toughest group. Yes they have Chelsea but a lot of players tend to play better against bigger teams. It's also he first season in the Champions League as well. El Shaarawy has potential but I wouldn't call him world class. Hulk is a winger, Iniesta IMO should be played in the centre but Barcelona play him on the left therefore making him a winger and I did say with Suarez can be utilized as a winger, I didn't say he was a winger but he as been used there in the past. Yes Hulk and Suarez are fast but they're not fast enough to cause defenders problems they have other skill sets for that. Also you say Messi is a winger but like Suarez he can be used there but he is used as a striker for Barcelona or false number 9 if you will (still a striker)

I'd also rank the World Cup higher than the Champions league but possibly not the Euros as I don't feel the same way towards that competition but that's a different argument.

I never said he wouldn't add more creativity than our wingers. Tell me where I said that? All I have stated is that I believe his is overrated. Yes I would choose him over Sterling, Ibe and Moses but he is overrated. Also to compare Walcott to Sterling and especially Ibe is unfair as they are just starting their careers and Walcott has been around since 2005. Ibe and Sterling are just potential at the moment.

So you're saying I'm not a true Liverpool fan because I don't rate Walcott or because I apparently would have Walcottt over Sterling, Ibe and Moses? I never said that though so you statement is not valid in this case. Of course I'd have Walcott over those 3 but as I have said before he is overrated, Being overrated does not make you a bad player in fact you can still be a good player and be overrated like Walcott is. Also I can't criticise a player because we don't have better wingers? That is no logic to that. Of course your can. It's called an opinion which you obviously you have a different one to me.

Another thing I haven't said is he doesn't worry full backs. You are just presuming things out of things I have said. I have not said some of the things you have claimed I have said which I haven't. So I will have a guess you have this argument before with someone/people? Also why did put 6 exclamation marks when 1 would suffice. Also it's made me think that what should be a civil debate seem like an argument but that's all it is. A civil debate.

Oh and Jesus Navas is overrated as well. He's good but overrated.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I'm suggesting that I put more effort into researching players, teams and their respective strength/weaknesses than Hamman.

But you do raise a good point, does someone know more about football if the he played professionally? Following that logic, surely then the better a player, the better a manager he would make? But we know that to not be true. In fact, the managers of the teams currently in the top 4, non played at the top level or even played professionally at all.

Being an ex-pro doesn't mean you know more or less about football at a theoretical level.

  62. Regards to Soldado. If any business has had 100 million £ to spend and thought they were getting a race horse and got a donkey for 25% of the money. The board of directors, the Managing Director would have been sacked, because they are responsible to the share holders.
A lot of our supporters are thankful for what Sir Alan Sugar did for the club, I think he should be consider quietly in this case, a) If Soldado is worth 26 million Spurs paid for him. b) If the Chairman acted correctly in buying him. & c) What is the proper way to go forward. Because most of the players bought in the summer are not Premiership quality players
For those that don't know Sir Alan brought our club back from nearly bankruptcy

It's too bad we didn't have Johnson, but Flanagan wasn't the main reason we lost.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Probably a bullet dodged - but there is some argument that the team is still "gelling", or at least has been gelling the last 10 games or so, by now this shouldn't be an issue.
Thing is if you look at La Liga, Seria A, Bundesliga, and Ligue 1. All average about .4 to .6 (about 3 goals /game)goals more per game than the average PL match (about 2.4 goals/game). this translates into about 200 more goals over the season in each of these leagues. Those extra goals will mostly than likely go to strikers. So will Soldado equal last years 24 goals in la Liga, not likely, probably closer to 14 or 15 over the season. Defoe got 11 last year, which is not far off, so he probably deserves a try.
Why are there more goals? Better strikers? Worse Defenses and keepers? More penalties / red cards? Probably some combination of these - but there definitely is an argument that these numbers from the other leagues are very hard to replicate in the PL.
Could Ronaldo Score 46 or Messi 50 in a campaign if Real or Barca played in the premier league - highly doubtful. Soldado might have a chance of pushing closer to 20 next season, but this season not a chance.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Eriksen, Soldado, Lamella, Capoe, Chadli, Chiricheș, Paulinho are all international players most have experience in either Champions league or the south american equivilents. But are not premiere league (2nd of 3rd in terms of quality in europe) quality. Clueless!

    ReplyDelete
  66. 3 points ahead of ManU... And they had so many stronger opponents...

    ReplyDelete
  67. Just saw that Bayer leverkusen winger and german international is available for around 2-3m! What a player that is. 11 goals and 6 assists in 16 games! He can also play as a striker btw GO and get him BR!!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Who would be your joice if you had - lets say abou 20m to spend on 1-2 midfielders?

    ReplyDelete
  69. El-Shaarawy wont go for 18m more like 30+

    ReplyDelete
  70. Morientes cost £6.8M too. A touch cheaper than the new Morientes!

    ReplyDelete
  71. The only big signing this season that has managed to make an impact for Spurs is Paulinho. Lamela £30m, Soldado £26m and Eriksen £12m all came with massive reputations and have done bugger all.

    Bullets dodged all round!

    ReplyDelete
  72. Only one goal from open play by Soldado and quite honestly has been a passenger most of the time. Another Carroll on the cards if you had to ask me.

Spurs are suffering without Gareth Bale.

    ReplyDelete
  73. The standard must go higher. I am just amazed every time by what our fans can take on and on since Beniteze's last season in charge when everything begun to be mistakes mistakes mistakes.
Whats the problem? You say Stevie is not good enough - haven't been for too long if you ask me - Just drop him. Hold a standard and keep it. Stop the bullshitting. Rodgers talks too much; He could have build a much more sufficient team with the time and money he had. Period. Surely if he couldn't there's managers who can. THAT SIMPLE.

FSG are playing the fans. One way we can go is lose any expectations from them and just push to get a manager who can work the situation how ever he pleases without media bullshit.

    ReplyDelete
  74. And without that overly polite polite polite politically correct attitude. Come on. This club worth's trophy's and fighting enjoyable football in higher frequencies.

And no looking sideways! Who cares how other team are doing in this stage.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Even Willian who almost signed for us too but now is on high wages at Chelsea. Another £30m bullet well and truly dodged.

There is method to FSG's transfer policy madness!

but we have to go back for Diego Costa. He will take the EPL by storm! The guy is absolute class...

    ReplyDelete
  76. Sad to see the manager & ex players have such a fundamental lack of understanding when it comes to laws of the game. The referee was 100% correct in handling the incident.

    ReplyDelete
  77. At the end of the day, Arsenal were deserved winners but I just wonder how the match would have ended if Henderson's goal was actually allowed?

    ReplyDelete
  78. I am an Arsenal fan but would have been very disappointed if the Ref had not played the advantage if it was for us. All I would say is that the Arsenal defenders stopped playing once the whistle blew, so I don't think it would necessarily have been scored anyway, so I think it is wrong to question whether the goal should have stood.

    ReplyDelete
  79. And for their suffering, I play the worlds smallest violin! 100M in transfers and less than a goal a game.
Sturridge only has one less goal than the whole of THS this season - goes to show it's not doom and gloom.
Not too mention the PL's player of the month for October - and accross Europe!
We'll take Tottenham, should take Everton, a couple of points between City and Chelsea, all be good.

    ReplyDelete
  80. You dont become a bad player overnight - a lot of it is to do with how AVB sets his team up - sometmes too many choices isnt a good thing. Its for certain that even under KD we created a lot of chances and we do even more under BR. Suarez and Sturridge inevitably put the ball away because the team is geared up for them. is the team geared up for soldado? I very much doubt it. Plus AVB is more arrogant than BR. With BR he is more than willing to change his opinions if he is proven wrong -whereas AVB will continue to flog a dead horse - and he will point to the fact that they are level with us and chelsea as proof of his success.

His main aim after spending so much money is to ensure top 4 - if that means playing ugly football and nicking a penalty in the last minute then so be it.

    ReplyDelete
  81. You forget that because the referee blew his whistle Szczesny had already stopped playing a good second or so before the ball was delivered in the middle, so I don't see how one can say that "the goal should have stood", the keeper might have caught the cross or saved the shot, just like he did with Toure's similar (offside) attempt...

    ReplyDelete
  82. If AVB does not finish top 4 then that £100m+ spent in the summer will cost him his job.

    ReplyDelete
  83. You can clearly hear the ref blowing the whistle loudly as the play continues. He stopped it before the run and pass. The Arsenal defender stops and the goalkeeper doesn't move. RVP got booked vs Barcelona for taking a shot after the whistle went so potentially the Liverpool player could have been booked. If the whistle had not blown the Arsenal defender may have tackled the Liverpool player or the Big Pole could have come off his line to gather the cross.

    ReplyDelete
  84. That's exactly right. How is this an argument about a missed goal? The entire Arsenal backline and goal keeper stopped short upon hearing the whistle. Liverpool kept playing against no one and put the ball in the net. Who knows what would have happened had play continued! It was a menacing moment from the Reds but it was far from certain to result in a goal. Its annoying to hear this framed as a "missed goal" for Liverpool.

    ReplyDelete
  85. But let's forget about the disallowed goal. The biggest shocker was how Arsenal ran our midfield ragged. Lucas looked like a lost little boy and Gerrard's snail pace gave Arsenal the freedom they wanted.

Hopefully Rodgers has the balls to make some difficult decisions.

    ReplyDelete
  86. I'm shocked Liverpool ex players saying goal should have been allowed. Brendan Rogers show some class clutching at straws won't change the result.

    ReplyDelete
  87. He had to stop the game to book Sagna. End of. Otherwise, Sagna escapes an obvious cynical foul because he let play continue.

    ReplyDelete
  88. I thought the cross came dangerously close to Szczęsny and it was clear he pulled up. I don't think he lets that go by him if play had continued.

    ReplyDelete
  89. It is my understanding that the rules were properly applied.
    Only one logical conclusion:
    Obviously Fergie still has influence...

    ReplyDelete
  90. Arsenal were the better team on the day (they were at home) Liverpool had the most and the best goal scoring chances but messed them up plus the ref bottled it when he saw Liverpool would probably score.

    ReplyDelete
  91. It's unfortunate, in any other foul situation the play would be allowed to go on, having to give a card it was not. I suppose it was "technically right", however I would rather forego the card on sagna and have a goal than the other way around.
Was a bold tackle, if it had been maybe 10 yards closer would have been a red.
Later in the game, Sagna was all up in Coutinho's face. Coutinho should have held his ground, might have got Sagna sent off for a second yellow, and this could have played in our favour. If if if.
Unfortunate how that one played out.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Not to mention that Sturridge's cross rolled across the 6 yard box. I don't think Szczesny let's that one go by unclaimed.

    ReplyDelete
  93. The thing about Coutinho is that he would rather stay on his feet than go down on Saturday. On many occasions he escaped the tackle with his brilliant skill. We are truly lucky to have the him at the club. What he needs is two adept CM's behind him which will see us rule any team we come up against.

    ReplyDelete
  94. defoe to lfc for 2 million thanks

    ReplyDelete
  95. Why can't he book Sagna at the next stoppage of play, I've seen that happen time and again to maintain the flow of the game. Admittedly Arsenal did stop playing part way through the break, but it would have still been 2 v 1 and a very good scoring opportunity.
That said, I don't think that's the reason LFC lost the game.

    ReplyDelete
  96. What is with people? Arsenal players stopped because Sagna was being booked! If it wasn't for that, the Arsenal players would have prevented the goal. Stop moaning. Let us enjoy the win quietly!1

    ReplyDelete
  97. I've said time and again, buying attacking players over the age of 25 from foreign leagues is a very risky proposition on the basis that it takes longer to adapt to the more physical nature of the premiership, no matter how proven they are (Shevchenko, Crespo, Veron, Morientes, etc). Soldado is not the exception here, and for our sake I hope it continues this way.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Assuming they could be had, My AMs would Be Mata then Cabaye. The DMs would be Capoue and Javi Marintez

    ReplyDelete
  99. Eriksen has not been given enough game time for some strange reasons.

    ReplyDelete
  100. In my opinion, the ref made a mistake to not let the play go on, especially since Suarez set the ball.

But in fairness, Arsenal did stop playing due to the whistle being blown so to outright assume we would have still scored is a bit of a stretch.

    ReplyDelete
  101. And they totally neglect the fact that the Arsenal players had stopped as the ref was talking to Sagna

    ReplyDelete
  102. Did you ever play football? Even as an 8 year old you are taught to play the whistle. If you want to take a quick free kick you HAVE to have the refs permission. Further, once the whistle blew, the referee HAD to book Sagna before play could recommence- when the ref allows. End of story. Why are Liverpool always the victims, even when they're wrong

    ReplyDelete
  103. Eriksen has been nothing but average when he has played.

    Go ask any Spurs fan!

    ReplyDelete
  104. Spend that much, you better bring results.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Oh fuck off. Shite non Liverpool story again

    ReplyDelete
  106. The situation was worth while. Play had stopped, Sagna was being very aggressive and in his face, coutinho just kept walking backwards - if he had stopped, Sagna may have pushed him, or done something otherwise to deserve a second yellow. I'm not asking for a dive, rather working the situation in our favour.
Suarez helped dissuade the situation. And I think it has to be said, he's been on superb behaviour, not a single booking, or anything questionable on his side. He went down a little easy at the beginning of the WBA game, but in all fairness he was grabbed from behind, and another day it would have been a pen. Sturridges little dive was ill advised against Arsneal.

    ReplyDelete
  107. The goal wasn't "disallowed". The game had been stopped four around three seconds as sturridge kept playing despite all the arsenal players stopping. Pretty sure szczesny could have literally just put his foot out to stop the ball trickling past him. deal with it

    ReplyDelete
  108. The ref wanted to talk to Sagna I understand that but he should have been more alert to the possibilities. Suarez was fouled so we didn't have the advantage, so getting that advantage back should have been allowed by the ref. Personally I would rather look at the game itself and look at reasons why we didn't get a result such as Henderson fluffing his lines or Suarez not making that pass that he made the week before. Having said that I think there is a legitimate grumble from the reds e should just not focus on it too much.

    ReplyDelete
  109. he should have allowed the the free kick to be taken and when the ball was dead he then should have booked sanga and by the way don't come on our site with all this victim shite u tosser

    ReplyDelete
  110. Take Tottenham?? Like you have so much in previous seasons when our squads were relatively equal?
We are light years ahead of you don't be fooled by your purple patch.
Respective performances v Arsenal show where we are at.
We dominated them with 60% possession as the away team had them finish the game with 4 full backs in a back six and they spent 90% of the game with everyone behind the ball after scoring a goal in the 15th minute. You went there on a high and got totally out played they bossed you from the first to the last minute. You haven't got a chance against Spurs keep dreaming.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Ref probably should have played advantage and spoke to sagna after, but as soon as he blew the whistle to indicate he wanted to speak to him the move was over.
By the time the ball had been put into the box all the arsenal players had stopped, so i think to call it a dis allowed goal is making more of it than there was. The chance would not have been as clear cut had all the players continued.
Brendan and co should be worried about the midfield frailties thst actually cost us the game, instead of a minor call like this that had little to no influence on the outcome IMO.
Still, arsenal away was a game that I had long since written off as a nil pointer, so not too disappointed. As long as we strenghten in Jan and put it up to the big teams at home, top four is very much alive. YNWA

    ReplyDelete
  112. Atkinson was correct in his decision. It's a shame people like rodgers, wright & st john have a total lack of understanding of the laws of the game. 1) When a player wants to take a quick free-kick, he by the laws of the game has to ask the ref who then indicates one way or the other on the issue. 2) As he had made his mind up about booking Sagna, the game cannot be restarted until the punishment has been handed out. So, to all those people spouting off through their rose tinted specs, try looking up the rules of the game, instead of running your mouths off. It's especially bad when it's coming from ex-pro's and a current manager in the premier league. The worst of it was though, when suarez took the quick free-kick, the Arsenal players had already stopped as they knew Atkinson was still talking to Sagna. I mean, do you honestly think henderson would have got any where near that ball had Mertesacker & Koscielny understood the situation knowing the ref had allowed play to continue....you'd have to be a raving lunatic to think we have got that ball then! lol. You liverpool fans, manager, ex-players can't get your heads round the fact that Arsenal made your whole team look stupid & ordinary at the Emirates and you're looking for excuses when there's none to be found. The worrying thing for you lot is, Arsenal beat you at a canter, and it's revealed serious lack of quality through your team and management structure....and that's a fact!!!

    ReplyDelete
  113. Arsenal quit playing as soon as the whistle blew. There is no possible ya you can't guarantee a goal at that point.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Agreed. It wasnt an advantage not played that cost us the match. New faces for midfield desperately needed in jan. That said, a loss away to Arsenal isnt really a shock considering their form, think there will be plenty of the top teams come away from there with nothing but a cup of tea at half time.
It's whether or not we can put it up to the top teams at home that will decide our champions league fate i think.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Just wondering how eriksen is playing??? Our coutinho is a diamond wer lucky to Hv him, hes better than eriksen for me. In two games time just watch how coutinho takes off...

    ReplyDelete
  116. LMFAO. Liverpool had the most scoring chances...even the most blinkered of scouse fans know that's wrong. You had 3 chances at best. Arsenal could have been out of sight had they have converted all their chances. It could have been 7-0 at the very least as your keeper had to make several key saves. LOL. I mean, the most action our keeper got was when he threw the ball to sturridge, and bless his little cotton socks, sturridge duely passed it back to him! And stop saying the ref got it wrong, he got it right as he couldn't proceed with the game due to the fact he was in the process of giving Sagna a yellow card. You people ought to read up on the rules before you start running your mouths off. You were soundly beaten by a side that are on a totally different level to you. You are looking for excuses where there's none to be found. You were hammered fair & square....live with it!!!

    ReplyDelete
  117. So your argument is that we lost to Arsenal, but you did a better job at losing? You get close to 60% every game, that doesn't = goals, of which you have a whopping total of 9.
    Take Tottenham is correct.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Yeah agree. Must say i thought Soldado would hit the ground running, but he's been pretty terrible. Spurs as a whole look a bit dis jointed. Still i think they might rally over christmas and start to challenge a bit more.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Walcott is not overated at all, he creates and scores regualrly. He does need to work on his crossing and skill but he is always a threat on the pitch. Sanchez is quick off mark and in straight, Salah and El Shaarwaay are both anielating full backs regularly in the hardest competition in the world. So they are world class. J Navas is a very good class quality winger, just he has not been played regularly week in week out.

Ibe and Sterling both need to be loaned out to teams in the lower divisions for year or two, then hopefully they come back more mature, experienced and ready to do well consistently week in week out.

I am hoping the owners give Rodgers 60-70M IN January to bring in the 6 players i mentioned:

    A Mccarthy(23) Of Reading GK for 5-7M

Koke(21) Of A Madrid Offensive CM for 15-18M
Benat(26) Of A Bilbao Offensive CM For 10-14M
M'Vila(23) Of Rubin Kazan DM for 10-15M

And two quick pacey skillful GOALSCORING wingers on either wing:

    RW / RWF: M Salah(21) Of Basle for 12-15M

    LW/ LWF: B Arfa(26) Of Newcastle for 12-15M

Both of these wingers have pace and speed, along with football brains, class, creativity, goals and end product

    ReplyDelete
  120. Don't worry about it Jamie, just shows the weakness of his argument that he has to revert to personal insults.

Twistadee, we don't have Champions League football and we don't have a sugar daddy. Therefore £60-70m Jan spend is never going to happen. Writing football manager style lists of players to sign is pointless. Not to mention, without a preseason, how would you effectively integrate your list of fantasy signings? Much better to sign a 1-2 key players who can make a first team impact and be effectively integrated (as we did last Jan) and wait until the summer for significant changes.

Twistadee your expert financial analysis might hold weight in Football Manager but in the real world it is of little relevance. Wages are the real fundamental issue for running a team like Liverpool, not transfer fees, and you don't even touch upon other costs incurred.

Southampton and Swansea are in completely different positions to Liverpool as their wage bill will be a fraction of ours, so to draw comparisons with them has no relevance. Furthermore, if Southampton continues to spend anywhere near that level the club will quickly end up doing a 'Pompey'.

PS if Wilshere can't get a regular starting berth in the Arsenal team, then Walcott and Podolski could not be regarded as significant misses from their first team. I think most would be playing Ozil, Ramsey, Giroud, Wilshere, Arteta, Flamini, and Carzola ahead of those two.

    ReplyDelete
  121. agree about allen and gerrard - the first one to controll the game - the second one to have some goal threat :) depending on how the game goes. i quite like will hughes. hes fresh and not afraid of kicking the the ball from a longer distance, reminds me of a certain young mr StevieG ;)
javi martinez would be too expensive i think no chance he would leave bayern for us... and capoue is at spurs isn´t he? i´d take diame and will hughes. yan m´villa would be another nice option imo. matic would be probably too expensive.. but there are a lot of nice possibilities.

offensive i agree with you mata and cabaye are both looking good - and would even look better in the liverpool-red jersey ;) valbuena should be probably added to that list!

    ReplyDelete
  122. No my argument was that we totally dominated them for 90% of the game and were unlucky to lose whereas you basically got battered.
That is because we dominate in nearly every game and once we start clicking teams (which you may well be one of) will get a hiding.

Yeah looking at the league table I did notice that goals scored equated to points, my simple friend.

We will see like a lot of Liverpool fans you are totally deluded.

    ReplyDelete
  123. it was even more frustrating that he let a quick free kick get taken in the second half. In those big games you need to get the breaks. Arsenal were the better team on the day but I saw enough to see that Liverpool can be in the mix for the top four places. I only concern is that I feel that Rodgers team selections has been to blame for the two defeats the season. He needs to be a bit more tactically cute for the games against top teams.

    ReplyDelete
  124. In my experience when there is a card involved, the game stops.
If it was an ordinary free kick, we could have continued playing and would have scored. It is true they stopped playing- specially Sceszny, but that cross would have been different- Daniel also knew it will not stand...

    ReplyDelete
  125. I wouldn't hold my breath for the clicking to start. When do you think that will happen? Another 10 games? Maybe you'll get lucky and get a few more penalties along the way.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Sad to see the rules are poorly written. It needs changing otherwise you are asking defenders to destroy the attack nature of the game. Well done FA another mess!

    ReplyDelete
  127. If it wasn't controversial or offensive, it wouldn't have caused the headlines it did. Considering the context, I can see why it was controversial or offensive to some.

    ReplyDelete
  128. I'm not relying on stats only, I'll never do that as I'm not that keen on stats in principle as I've illustrated on this site time and time again. I merely used them to back up a view to an extent. I also use the eye and I know what I saw last season and the two season before that. What I saw was a very good PL player. You don't seem tor rate him as a PL player, I do and I'll stand by that view all day long. I'll leave it at that as we're just starting to go round in a subjective circles

Unlikely a team will push up high when they are winning/drawing against Arsenal. More likely the opposition sit back and therefore, I standby my belief that it is odd to bring on Walcott as a impact player when Arsenal are chasing the game.

    ReplyDelete
  129. All of our midfielders were behind the player in the goalscoring oportunity, and he scored. Just an example, and there are many- our midfield was poor...

  130. "In January the owners need to give Rodgers some serious investment to spend 60-70M , so he can bring in class, quality players. No potential, No Flops, class, quality players who can and will hit ground running straight away."

I am not sure any manager chooses to buy a flop or one with no potential. Players are scouted whilst operating successfully (usually) in a different team and often in a different league. There is always a risk that players cannot transfer that success to their new club. Sebastian Veron springs to mind as a classic example. New players, no matter how good, are always a gamble.

Then of course is the meshing in period for the player and the rebalancing of the team. Spurs still have to find their best combination from all the players they bought.

Arsenal have a fantastic squad but they also have one of the most settled squads with only Ozil and Flamini as newbies and then Flamini is already used to playing the Arsenal way.

Buying a truck load of players, like replacing managers, gives fans the illusion of progress but is rarely translates to more actual success.

    ReplyDelete
  131. Yes, Spurs, but he is on an ankle injury and appears almost extraneous anyway so he isn't helping Spurs. Martinez is presently warming the bench for Guardiola...so there's a ray of light there. The only one of the four that is getting any regular game time is Cabaye...and we already know he is impatient to get to a team that matters. We are a huge step up for him and I think he would welcome being behind SAS. I like Hughes too, but I'm just afraid he'll be too young to take command in the face of all that experience behind and in front of him. What we need is somebody with innate ball skills, but a must is someone comfortable commanding the field and driving the team forward. Hughes is good but there is a mental aspect and sheer willpower that must be considered over ball skills.

    ReplyDelete
  132. I htink he is titanically over rated...all velocity and no vector.

    ReplyDelete
  133. khedira sounds class, hes an engine in midfield IMO a good competition for lucas, hes strong and has a good shot - isco (think RM wouldnt want to lose him) and modric would cost to much. this jorginho is quite interesting too

    ReplyDelete
  134. hes really good but not 30m good...

    ReplyDelete
  135. I'm beginning to think a well trained Irish Setter would be competition for Lucas...I don't think his heart is in the game anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  136. mhh, on his best days he can be brilliant - and in fact everytime he´s on top of his game we usually win. he can dominate games in defensive midfield, but most of the times hes sleeping next to SG who is even less effective in DM without possesion... we need some strengh in that area or atleast another hendo type of player who´s running as if side stitch did never exist, damn i would love to see hendo more often to partner either SG or lucas - hopefully allen will get some gametime soon too

    ReplyDelete
  137. If BR can get Hendo to throttle back about 5% so his brain will have a chance of staying out in front of his flying body, he would be soooo much better. Velocity without vector can be deceivingly exciting...but so often just leads nowhere fast. I started counting the number of times I caught Lucas walking Saturday...it wasn't pretty. Robinho? He's only 29 and isn't really playing that much at Milan. Wonder if he would entertain a return to the BPL?

    ReplyDelete
  138. Don't know how that happened...look two above.

    ReplyDelete
  139. It might take until the new year or even longer. As we are hard to beat it isn't like we are languishing in mid table while we wait now is it?

Any one with a brain would see that when you have such wholesale changes (7 new players signed in the summer) it will take time. We might not even see the best of all of them this season.

How can you talk about lucky penalties? You get more than your fair share it's about time that we got a few anyway as we didn't get any in the league for the past 2 seasons.

I'm confident that even if we don't click all season long we will finish considerably higher than you like we have for the last 4 seasons. Despite you not being in Europe (about 20 less games to play) and going out of the mickey mouse early.

    ReplyDelete
  140. Soldado might not be adapting to the EPL that well, but he has a pedigree of playing and scoring at the highest level. He has a career average of nearly a goal every other game Carrol has done nothing close to this or ever will. It is like comparing a donkey to a racehorse.
If winning games while playing poorly is suffering long may it continue.
I'd worry way more about your side after that performance the other night against Arsenal than us.

    ReplyDelete
  141. I think I have seen you say the stats thing before but there are quite a few people who post regularly it's hard to know who's posted what. Don't get me wrong I do think he is a good player. I just think he is overrated. Anyway like you said let's agree to disagree because let's be honest we will be saying the same thing over and over again. Oh, and I would have him at Liverpool over any of our wingers any day.

    ReplyDelete
  142. the call all depends on the ref, it could have gone either way and been right with each side still having a reason to cry. what is pathetic is that he didn't hand Sagna a red card. it looked like an American football play. any tackle from behind can be deemed a red card offence, fact that he clambered on his back to haul him down on a goalscoring opportunity is even worse. yes arsenal fans it was goalscoring he was 1v1 against hands down the worst defender on the field, you could see straight fear in gibbs eyes as saurez was bearing straight at him. I was at the bar with my good friend that is a die hard arsenal fan and he was ashamed sagna didn't get a red. and even though yes you absolutely dominated the midfield you were very exposed at defence, scesy had a phenomenal game, and you were shown how horrible your one and only forward really is. it helps that arsenal played one of the most unbalanced midfields in the league. I can't wait for the crash and burn of arsenal so then u can hear all of you cry again.

  143. To some it is, as seen by some of their reactions at the time. Each to their own as they say.

  144. Don't get me wrong I think Salah and El Shaarawy are very good players but I just wouldn't say world class. IMO they haven't done enough in their careers so far.

I agree with the Sterling and Ibe needing to go out on loan. Sterling more so because he seems to have lost quite a bit of confidence over the last few months. Probably because he became a regular starter and then was dropped/ I think he was a regular starter to early in his career because if we brought in a winger with more experience we would most likely have dropped him and we sort of fif when we brought in Coutinho. Ibe just needs to go out on load to gain experience really because he won't be getting it at Liverpool in the short term.

The transfers you want to see happen.

Alex McCarthy would be good back up for Mignolet but Reading reportedly want £15 million for him and that is to much for a back goalkeeper and a lot of starting keepers IMO. Some people questioned the money we paid for Mignolet.

The midfielders I agree but judging by how FSG has worked in the past they would want to find a cheaper alternative.
I do think Lucas is doing a good job but he is unchallenged and needs competition so he can push himself harder. A lot of people seem to want Diame which is obviously the cheaper alternative.

I would like to have both Salah and Ben Arfa but I do think Ben Arfa may come at a higher price but if rumours are to believed we're on the verge of signing El Shaarawy. However I'm taking that with a pinch of salt. If he does sign I hope he'd prove me wrong thinking he's not world class as with a lot of players I'd love to be proved wrong.

Now back to Walcott instead of arguing about this continuously and getting know where with it, we both clearly have different opinions on him so let's just agree to disagree.

  145. Mhh he didn't really show anything at ManC but he could be a real bargain!!

  147. Best summer buy GARETH BARRY - would have been much better than Moses

    ReplyDelete
  148. This is great fun. As we slip down the league we can console ourselves by criticising the performances of players we failed to sign in the summer. Doh

    ReplyDelete
  149. Yes true but, to attract the better quality players, you need to pay top money both in fees and wages. This will not happen under FSG

    ReplyDelete
  150. soldado, lik many, many players, are not worth the money paid for them. it takes a while for players from other cultures and countries to adapt. personally, i couldn't care less that he isn't doing particularly well at the moment, but next season may be a diferent matter.

  151. If your so good how come youve relied on dubious decisions and luck to beat off the likes of Palace tell ya one thing your not light years ahead.
Cities and Chelseas squads are still way ahead of yours you keep dreaming.

  152. Salah and B Arfa would cost the club 30-32M, El Shaarway would cost the club at least 19-23M , Whereas Arfa would cost no more than 15M as his contract is up at Newcastle either in June or following year and if We actually aim to get back in Champions league anytime soon, then B Arfa(26) and M Salah(21) are the type of players we should be going for. One knows the premiership inside out and would just be playing with better players , the other is class, quality player with pace, skill and speed to burn but may need a few games to adjust to the speed and physicality of the league.
A Mccarthy(23) Of Reading the club could get for 5-7M, We could also loan them a few players to sweeten the deal : Kelly and Sterling.

    ReplyDelete
  153. Zico - You're wrong on your first point as a quick free-kick can be taken by the attacking team without any indication to or from the referee. The reason the quick free kick wasn't allowed was only because of your second point - the fact that he was booking Sagna.

As for the rest of your post(s) - your trying to incite an argument with your derogatory nonsense about Liverpool Fans, Management and Ex-players.

Arsenal didn't beat Liverpool at a canter and they certainly didn't make the Liverpool players look stupid. Arsenal actually played very well for very long periods of the game and deserved to win, but if you look at the stats of the arsenal players (ground covered, tackles made, duels won etc) you will see that it could hardly be called a "canter".

Still, your entitled to gloat all you like as your team won very well. Just remember that these things have a habit of biting you on the arse later on in the season as there is still a long way to go yet!

    ReplyDelete
  154. It would have been 7-4 if both teams had converted all of their shots on target - but hey, don't let fact ruin your argument!!

    2-0 hammering?? really??

    ReplyDelete
  155. He could also have allowed the play to continue as Suarez played the ball and that would have been technically correct. I'm not sure what you mean by "the letter of the law" in this instance. What law? The ball was placed, stationary and then the free kick taken, all within acceptable parameters. The only reason the ref had to call it back was that he wasn't ready. He'll always have that power but he also could have simply kept up with a quick thinking player and allowed the game to progress.

If Arsenal scored from a similar situation then I'm sure some Liverpool players and fans would complain but they'd be wrong. The free kick was given and then taken immediately so any complaining would be only because of one-eyed disappointment, not any kind of valid argument. The goal in this instance would have changed the game so I think everyone is making a very valid point. Liverpool were denied a perfectly good goal, it's a very big deal.

    ReplyDelete
  156. The ref could stop the game whenever he liked to book Sagna, there is no "had to" in this instance. It was entirely his decision. Of course everyone stopped because the referee himself had stopped. None of that changes the notion that the ref was well within his power to simply allow a quick free kick to be taken.

    ReplyDelete
  157. The ref would have been perfectly correct within the rules of the game to allow the quick free kick. I get the feeling that you haven't looked up the rules yourself, you're just assuming the interpretation you're making is right. At any point the ref could have waved play-on and Arsenal players would have had to continue. He chose to instead stop the play and deal with the yellow card, that's his call and of course it should stand that way, but the point always remains that he could so easily have let the free kick happen as it did. No one here disputes the obvious facts that the ref decided to stop the game and hand out the yellow card and thus the game was forced to stop. Any idiot could see that. It was the refs choice and he choose to disadvantage Liverpool in what turned out to be a brilliant attacking position.

Anything to do with LFC will probably cause headlines.
A Tory MP attempting to ride his bike managed to cause headlines, yet it was neither controversial nor offensive. The media choose what to 'dramatise'.
The context was a picture of a teammate. The only people who found it offensive were an ex-Man Utd lush and a bloke who desperately wanted to get some airtime for his political movement.

  159. What i was saying is Rodgers can no longer waste millions on potential? Alberto, Allen, Assaidi, Aspas, Borini. Thats 40M that could of been better spent on real class quality attacking players.

Rodgers has brought in some good defensive signings, but most of his attacking signings have been poor apart from Sturridge and Coutinho.

Rodgers needs to bring in players of Coutinho, Sturridge and Suarez's attacking ability.

    ReplyDelete
  160. Well if we aim to get back in Champions league the peanut money FSG have been giving Rodgers is not happening, as Rodgers recently said he is playing catch up. When we strengthen spending 20- 30M, others strengthen by 60-90m, how we going to get back amongst them? 60-70m is what is needed in January for 6 players. 5 midfielders and a back up GK, As our midfield is laboured, immobile, slow, lacks creativity, lacks goals.

    ReplyDelete
  161. You are wrong. According to the laws of the game he has to book Sagna at the next stoppage. When he blew for the free kick, that was the next stoppage. If he allows play to continue he can't then come back and book him later. Feel free to look that up yourself if you don't believe me.

Furthermore, Sturridge sent a cross right in front of the keeper and the only reason he didn't come up for it is that everyone stopped save for the two Liverpool players. What's done is done. Let's move on now.

    ReplyDelete
  162. When he blew for the free kick, that was the next stoppage. He had to book Sagna then or not at all.

  163. I guess we view what happened differently then and I'll leave that at that, agree to disagree. A certain rugby player. Controversial or not, offensive or not, the PR by the club and those associated with it was a shambles during that period. Cringe. I'm glad that particular period is over and I'd rather not get into that particular chapter again.

    ReplyDelete
  164. I don't agree, he could have let play go on and book him after; it happens often enough.

    ReplyDelete
  165. Arsenal was the best team on that day and deserved winner, but a goal like this one could change completely the game in our favour (as Henderson's great missed chance before). Now Gunners can talk about "formula 1" football and shit like that, but I remember a couple of years ago (King Kenny was our coach), when we outplay them everywhere, we where the "formula one team", but they won again!!! It is not only about the referee, it is about to take our chances and score as well. We are a naive team and for some reason we always make "gifts" to Arsenal. Mercy me...

    ReplyDelete
  166. You get more than your fair share of penalties I see u chose to ignore the fact that we are due some due to having been awarded NONE in the last to seasons, where I've lost count of the amount you've got during that time.

Who mentioned City or Chelsea (who have both spent magnitudes more than us)I said we are light years ahead of you! Which we clearly are.

Until this season our net spend on players over the last 8 seasons was 10m. This thread is funny so many jealous people talking about how much money we spent, when we singed proven international class players. Just because FSG got their fingers burnt spending close to our out lay on the likes of the busts Carrol Henderson Downing et all no need to hate on teams that sign proper players.

    ReplyDelete
  167. He has also scored 3 penalties in 3 PL games this season, spurs have won 9 points from them. All games finished 1-0!

    Enough said!

    ReplyDelete
  168. That is £10m a season not £10m in total as I'm sure if I hadn't corrected it some bright spark on here would be the first to say.
The points gap between us and you has been good over the last few seasons and I have seen nothing to see why that would change.
But I can see you like to be in a state of mutual denial on here so I'll just smile at the end of the season when despite not being in europe, going out of the mickey mouse early and probably the FA cup too and only concentrating on the league and maybe scraping a Europa place if you are lucky.
    Good luck lads!

    ReplyDelete
  169. I see that method waste close to a £100m one season on crap like Downing, Caroll, Henderson etc then spend next to nothing having exhausted the budget. Is that a method or just common sense?

    ReplyDelete
  170. That might end up being the case. But currently one is 21 with 40 odd caps, 3 titles to his name, has played in a world cup aged 18 has about 30 appearances in the champions league, and over 115 senior club appearances. The other plays for you and is therefore not likely to win any honours.

    ReplyDelete
  171. Just want to point something out here, I follow OM religiously and Loic Remy is not "more prolific" than A. Ayew. While he may be having a great year thus far for Newcastle, when he left OM he was abysmal. Ayew on the other hand has been a consistent top performer for the club. I would not expect a single digit sale in the slightest. 15-18 would be more likely.

    ReplyDelete
  172. A former spurs manager now in the championship once warned, "if Chelsea or arsenal are never interested in a player, just think twice before buying him"

    ReplyDelete
  173. We havent had countless penalties but many were earned when u have top shelf strikers u get them. I see u totally ignore the fact that we have had bad penalty calls u didnt see the West Brom obviously and doubt weather u have seen much at all of Liverpool.
Its funny to hear u people u havent won nothin and u think everyones jealous of what exactly.
