Transfer Update: €7m LFC target who 'impressed' Vieira hints at exit. Challenge Lucas...?

Liverpool have been linked with Manchester City youngster Abdisalam Ibrahim several times over the last few months, and the 22-year old midfielder - now back at the Etihad Stadium after a successful loan spell in Norway - has hinted that a January transfer could be on the cards. Should the Reds pursue their interest?

Speaking to Sky Sports yesterday, Ibrahim - who has been compared to Patrick Vieira and Yaya Toure - revealed his desire to prove himself at City, but also noted:

"Several clubs have been in contact, but I still don't know what's going to happen in January"

Could Liverpool be one of those clubs? It's certainly possible. In May, Sky Sports reported:

"Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool, Everton, Fulham and Swansea are all keeping tabs on Ibrahim's progress. They will continue to monitor his situation over the summer"

Then, in July, the Daily Express reported:

"Abdisalam Ibrahim is heading for the Etihad exit door after the club granted him a transfer. He has no shortage of suitors with Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool and Crystal Palace all vying for his signature".

Earlier this year, Man City's Football Development Executive Patrick Vieira watched €7m-rated Ibrahim in action, and the France legend admitted he was 'impressed' with the youngster, who was clearly pleased that to hear that Vieira attended the game. The 6'2 midfielder told reporters:

"I am happy the way that the season has started and it is nice to hear Patrick Vieira was here to watch me. I want to continue improving and remain focused on my game and we will see in the summer what Manchester City plan to do with me."

Jostein Flo, Strømsgodset Director of Sports, is a fan of Ibrahim, and believes that he has what it takes to succeed in a bigger league. He recently told ABC Nyheter:

"He [Ibrahim] is hot right now and has developed considerably here. If he leaves, he will probably go to a club abroad. City is very pleased that he is here, but we have not discussed his future"

Liverpool desperately need some kind of cover for Lucas, and Ibrahim could be a viable, comparatively cheap January option. Worth a bid...?

  2. you always preach of LFC needs players who're experienced and who can get directly into the team and he is the one to challenge per your heading, Lucas??? If we need cover and challenge for that position he is not the player. Viera wants Pobga, why he is not keeping Ibrahim?

  3. I am beginning to think it is axiomatic that anyone who is hailed as 'the new (fill in your legend)'...is not.

  4. Meanwhile...Mata sits again. I hope someone is talking to his agent.

  5. Yann M'Vila is nothing special. I'm not a Liverpool fan but I would suggest he is not good enough for Liverpool, not to the point where I would hope he signs in what would be an overpriced deal involving big wages, plus question the ambition of going to Russia.

  6. The Rubin Kazan player?

  7. Apart from the usual unnecessary yellow, Lukas was great- that one he kicked to the corner kick(after the mistake in defence) would have been a goal.

  9. Lucas should be cover for who ever comes. We won't progress with this midfield we got. I wouldn't mind 3 midfielders to come in Jan. And get rid of Allen.

  10. Wake up. Lucas is not good enough if we really want to compete in CL or with Arsenal, Chelsea, City. He should be second choice.

  11. I am awake, I would like Matic to be our starter. But for the time being, I think he is doing a good job,and that we can qualify to cl with him.
