Liverpool are reportedly monitoring Atletico Madrid striker Adrian Lopez, and could make a move during the upcoming January transfer window.
According to reports in Spain this week:
* Liverpool and Roma are showing 'serious interest' in signing 25-year old Lopez.
* He could be available for €8m
This latest linke follows a recent report in Spanish newspaper El Confidencial, which claimed:
"After indifferent form this year, Adrian Lopez will be put up for sale at the end of the season. His future lies in the Premier League, with Tottenham, Arsenal, Liverpool and Everton interested in signing the striker"
During the last January transfer window, Arsenal tabled a £10m offer for the the Spain international, who has a €16m buyout clause in his contract.
Responding to rumours about his future recently, Lopez claimed that he is happy in Madrid. He told Spanish newspaper Marca:
"I try to isolate myself from the rumours. We are used to them and do not take them seriously. I am very happy at Atletico, and it is my intention to continue here. The good thing at the moment is that the team is doing very well. I would like to stay for a while yet."
In his first season at Atletico, Lopez grabbed 23 goals/4 assists in 55 games for the club, which is roughly one goal/assist every two appearances. The Spaniard struggled in his second season at the Vicente Calderón Stadium, contributing only 4 goals and 2 assists in 52 appearances.
Last summer, Vincente del Bosque left Lopez out of the Spain's Euro 2012 squad, but he was full of praise for the striker, and hinted he would get his chance in the future:
"We preferred other options, but we have to say that Adrian is brilliant. It was unthinkable that a player who just had their debut would make the squad. But we are keeping an eye on him."
For yet another €8m, Liverpool can do a hell of a lot better, that's for sure. Comparatively speaking, it's not a huge amount of money, but if the Reds are going to splash out on another striker this summer, I'd rather the club went for a consistent, bona-fide goal-scorer, rather than yet another mid-priced gamble.

Two words should characterise our signings in this next window:
ReplyDeleteConsistent.
Proven.
No thank you. I am sure our "scouting team" can find someone much better than him. Mykh, Willian and Costa are the sort of caliber we need to try and get for that push.
ReplyDeleteWe have Aspas who will be back beginning of December and Moses is there as back up too. Cannot see us going for another forward.
ReplyDeleteReckon we will see a midfielder arrive in January. Hopefully a proper box to box midfielder...
I agree with Mykh and Costa and thought Willian looked great before this season but he doesn't seem to have set the world alight yet and missed a sitter in the Chelsea, West Brom game. What's everyone else's thoughts on Willian and missing out on him?
ReplyDeleteIMO we have dodged a bullet by not blowing 30 million pounds on him.
ReplyDeleteIt's true, Willian is overrated, overhyped and overpriced to be honest.
ReplyDeleteEven at Shakhtar his record was poor.
Good target.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a really good finisher and maybe his job changed last year with felco but the more depth the better, maybe a true 10 rather then all these 9 and a half
ReplyDeleteMatic.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LKg2nxP-L9I
ReplyDeleteWatch a few blackpool games to see if he was as good as the hype prottrayed hiim being and he from those games he played amazing, he is quick, strong, and has a great left foot.
ReplyDeleteThis is pure waste of money to sign 4 players in the region of 10m and then saying we're low on money when we actually have blown 40m on players who are average in a lower league. Its time we show some intent or just forget the ambition of top 4. Look at other squads in the top 8 at the moment and you'll see anyone can finish top 4.
ReplyDeleteIf we want to sign players for 10m then let them be of Eriksen's quality or not at all!!!
Are you deluded £25m ?
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VjPS6e4-tvU
ReplyDeleteI say lets take a gamble on him for an offer in the range of 3m or so because that is what Blackpool will get out of him as not much time is left on his contract and he could leave for free come summer.
ReplyDeleteI suggest he's worth the gamble and better than Sterling IMO and could be a decent back up for the RW position if we ever get back to playing 4-3-3. He already knows how the league is and its better to take a gamble on him rather than signing players from other country's lower leagues.
Did any championship player get sold for more than 20?
ReplyDeleteI wish this site would stop popping up on my mobile lfc feed, it's so negative towards Liverpool and the guy who writes these must be so miserable and pessimistic IRL. I'm astonished this site is so popular
ReplyDeleteYet you are posting..
ReplyDeleteif i had 25mill , i would be chasing ALEXIS SANCHEZ
ReplyDeleteHe can stay where he is .Another over-hyped,overated and totally over priced, home grown player!!!
ReplyDeleteSuarez is fair play example compared to him...
ReplyDeletelol 25m what a retard.
ReplyDeleteThe problem with Ince and it is a very big problem is that you get his greedy big mouth dad with him. if he was worth half of what you say Oyston would have cashed in for sure.
ReplyDelete25M? What are they smoking over there at Bloomfield road?
ReplyDeleteWhy don't you open your eyes and learn to READ. Paul Ince rates him at 25m, not me, and that is clearly stated in the article.
ReplyDeleteProblem number 1 = Paul Ince.
ReplyDeleteProblem number 2 = Tom thinks the world revolves around him.
Paul Ince is on cheap drugs if he thinks his son is worth 25 million..
Seem fashionable to degrade Paul Ince and his son whenever they are mentioned.
ReplyDeleteCould someone provide quotes of what they have said or examples of sins they have committed so some of the less enlightened like us can know?
I'd liked to see more of the younger players loaned out to the right clubs, I feel that wisdom and suso are going to have much more of an impact on the club next season because of it.
ReplyDeleteHe couldn't do more in the championship. Goals and assists are amazing. Also LFC will get 35% of any sale so if we buy him it will act as a discount (probably should of said it in the article). And with 6 months left on his contract price would be even cheaper.
ReplyDeleteIts almost a risk free buy (injuries aside) so why not give an apprentice the chance to be a master.
And have his Dad fighting with the club and continuously demanding first team football for his son? Maybe if Ince Snr had kept his nose out of LFC's business then maybe Ince Jnr would still have been at Anfield.
ReplyDelete25 mil your having a laugh right paul
ReplyDeletePaul Ince's nickname, The Guv'nor, was picked by Ince himself. A little off putting to most of us....
ReplyDeletea 10, nice point.
ReplyDeleteValencia actually wants Aspas. Why not sell him and become better?
If behind the scenes is that petty it would be worring
ReplyDeletethat ship has well sailed I hope they 25 million cos we will get 33% of it
ReplyDeleteWas gutted about Mhkitaryan and Costa. Willian never seemed worth £20m -30m .The other two would have made us some team....
ReplyDeleteAgreed, as it is we have our starting strikers in Sturridge and Suarez with th likes of Aspas, and, if he can e recalled, Borini as backup. Not the most formidable attacking options to be sure, but o greater concern ought to be defensive midfield and perhaps attacking midfield. The more flexible options we have without crowding out a position the better I think.
ReplyDeleteAgree we need top flight adds to make the next step up. We are not there yet, especially if Suarez leaves or gets banned for something dumb. Need more goal scoring threats than just SAS......
ReplyDeleteI dont see the club spending large amounts in January but at this moment i really think a spend up on a quality mid is the greatest need.
ReplyDeleteNot sure Aspas is a great replacement up front but he may surprise many.
