Exciting News: Grobbelaar confirms that LFC will sign a 'big name' in January.

Anfield legend Bruce Grobbelaar has revealed some tantalising news about Liverpool's January transfer plans.

In a radio interview last night, Grobs - who won 14 major trophies during his illustrious LFC career - told Metro FM:

"In the January window, you will see another great name come to Liverpool.

"I’m not going to give any clues about who it’s going to be, but there’s a big name coming to Liverpool".

Interesting! Given Grobbelaar's connections at and with LFC, it's possible that he has some inside info about the club's January transfer plans, and his language is emphatic: you WILL see another 'great name' come to Liverpool.

So, who could it be?

I personally hope it's Juan Mata. Liverpool allegedly put in a bid over the summer, and with Jose Mourinho's seeming indifference to the Spaniard; his great relationship with Rodgers, and LFC's extensive business with Chelsea over the last few years, there's always a chance.

Who do you want it to be?

It might be the fan favourite "Xabi Alonso"

  2. Mata will be absolutely great, but whoever it is, I sure hope its a PROPER attacking mid and/or defensive mid...

  3. It is probably "just" John Barnes coming back , similarly to fowler n macca for a staff role...

  4. I think he is leading people on!! I suspect it will be John Barnes or another legend coming back to the club as an ambassador or to assist with the youth setup!!

  5. I think so too. It's probably one of his old buddies taking up a role. Maybe even Brucie himself! I doubt Rodgers sits around discussing transfer targets with Grobbelaar, even if they have all but been finalized.

  6. But why would the club wait until a transfer window to do that? Signing John Barnes on a free transfer?

  8. I doubt it's a non-player. It doesn't really make sense. Why would the club bring back people like Fowler and Dalglish now, but then just wait till the Jan window to do the same thing? The only thing I could think of to counter that argument is the person of subject can't get started till january...

Mata? Mourinho wont strengthen us further as we are now rivals for any position in the top 4. I reckon that player to be from any other team in EPL not in the running for these positions. Otherwise it will be from outside the EPL.

  10. Exactly. It makes no sense for him to 'lead people on' about something like that.

  11. I hope its Lukaku, what a monster of a players he is. Will definitely aid in Pool winning the league title!

  12. John Barnes will make a great addition to the coaching staff, whether at junior or senior level!

  13. He made claims in past windows about de viri, and a supposed big player from Italy were going to sign but nothing happened so I would take with a pinch of salt. Although if we are still second or third come Jan there is every chance world class talent would want to sign and that we would make efforts to sign them. A Gerrard successor is absolute paramount in my eyes.

want will hughes as well though

  20. planning on going to Brazil this summer but I told my fiance if we sign Mata I'm canceling and were going to Liverpool in May. love Mata he could truly make lfc contenders for the title. but I hope this big name is either him or song... our can I dare dream for both

  21. It'd be a douche bag thing to do if he indeed was!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Pastore would make an impact equal to them, but going by proven class its Mata for the Prem.

    ReplyDelete
  23. But then in saying that, it's not like that counter point I raised would even matter! All LFC would need to say is, 'we're delighted to announce that John Barnes will be returning to the club in a coaching role within the academy. John's vast experience, expertise and status at the club will be a superb asset for the club to possess. John is expected to begin his work in January'.

  24. Any of these would be fine: Mata, Gonalons, Rakitic and Jackson Martinez :)

  25. there is talk of Matic or Koke, in which case both have a lot to offer, class players that would fit into LFC starting 11 easily. but the challenge now is to sustain our position until the next window, if we are up there with the big spenders by the end of the year, good players will want to come to lfc if CL is on offer, I think its the key to signing class players in addition to what we have already. imagine coutinho suarez and sturidge up front? mouth watering prospect.. LFC on the rise...

  31. Ah man I'm scared to get my hopes up lol!

I hope it's Mata. The again a class DMC would be awesome.

  32. Mourinho loves to stamp his own authority in the team but not playing Mata is silly. I know he wants to play a certain way but man...Mata is just a special player that can make things happen.

Would love him to come to us!

  33. Why? That's the biggest name on earth...
