LFC favourites to sign €6m star who can be 'as good as Ibrahimovic'. Transfer mistake?

Earlier this year, the Agent of Manchester City striker John Giudetti confirmed that the talented Swedish star wanted a loan move to an English club, and with the youngster now seeking a permanent move away - and Liverpool arguably in need of another striker - perhaps he'd be a good player for Brendan Rodgers to consider during the upcoming January transfer window?

The Liverpool Echo linked Liverpool with a move for the talented striker during last summer's transfer window, and reports this week claim that:

* Guidetti is 'all but certain to leave' in the new year.

* Liverpool are 'front runners' for his signature.

* The club has followed Guidetti since his loan spell at Feyenoord in 2012.

* City want at least €6m for him.

Giudetti is certainly highly regarded. PSG superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic is a big fan, as he revealed in a recent interview with AD Sportwereld:

“We need to treat this talent with great care. He [Giudetti] is still young, but his actions show that he is already very good. Give him time, he has a bright future"

Guidetti's success at Feyenoord also elicited praise from boss Ronald Koeman, who raved:

"I think that John can be as good as Zlatan Ibrahimovic. I've coached them both. Zlatan struggled a lot more than John to find his way in Netherlands. John is on the same level as players such as Wesley Sneijder and Rafael van der Vaart at that age".

That's high praise indeed. A loan deal to Anfield (or even a permanent deal) would seem to make sense for both Giudetti and Liverpool:

* He wants to move to a Premier League club.
* Given his age/experience, wages probably wouldn't be too excessive.
* Transfer fee definitely within LFC's budget.
* Fits LFC's transfer policy.
* Would fit nicely into the striker pecking order at LFC.
* Good competition for Sturridge and Suarez (if he stays).

28 goals/assists in 23 games - albeit in the Eredivisie - is a brilliant achievement for such a young striker (he was 20 at the time), and if Liverpool really pushed for Guidetti, I'm sure the club would be in with a chance of signing him. However, I can't get past the feeling that it could turn out to be Fabio Borini mk2.

* With Sturridge and Suarez in the team - and the reduced number of games this season - Guidetti will hardly ever get to play as a central striker.

* If Rodgers persists with 352, where would he fit in? There's no room out wide in that formation, and the only place Guidetti could play is the number 10 role, which will be occupied by Philippe Coutinho

* If Rodgers reverts to 433, there's still no chance. Suarez and Sturridge will automatically take 2 of the 3 attacking positions, which leaves too many players fighting for the one remaining spot.

I personally feel the club should hold off buying a new striker until the summer, and strengthen other areas first, specifically players who will fit into the system Rodgers wants to play. For example: a dedicated, experienced number ten to battle it out with Coutinho.

As the Borini situation proves, there's simply no point buying a striker if he's ultimately going to warm the bench and/or be played out of position. If the Reds qualify for the Champions League next season, there will be more than enough games to go around, and that's he time to buy another striker.

  1. We definately need some depth upfront and who knows what Suarez will do.....i think he`s good value or maybe take him on loan until the summer and re-evaluate then .I`ve put a check mark against all 6 points you laid out above .....well worth a punt .....

  2. We already have so many of them and its a never ending list. He isn't going to play for reserves which he's already doing at Man Shitty. AS you said, more importance should be given for players like Mata and Pastore, Also, a DM which can be Fernando from Porto would be fantastic for us.

  3. All the top clubs have good reserve strikers i dont see Aspas or Borini or probably Suarez at the club next season so why not he looks good value.
He also offers a plan B at a cheap price the club isnt going to waste 20 mill for a plan B this guys ideal.

  5. I think he will fit nicely into the squad and will develop if hes playing well. hes both footed, quick and a deady striker already capable of scoring 20goals in as many games. by the time hes sturridges age who know how good he can be. we should set aside £6m for him as I think he will be a bargain. he reminds of chicarito.
then the money we was gonna use on HK which was £25M and was to rise to £30M we should go all out for El Shaarawy. hes a genuine world class player capable of playing at the highest level and producing wonders against clubs like Juventus, Barcelona and Inter. El Shaarawy has similar potential levels to Lionel Messi and in 3 years, should LFC steal him, you'll hear RM making a £130M bid for him. I think Milan rate El Shaarawy, but rate Super Mario much higher, and have always wanted him as their young striker. since Balotelli has been signed El Shaarawy had been pushed down the pecking order, so Milan would probably take the mone ad improve other departments in the team
then I believe we should make a £20M bid for Shinji Kagawa. Him and Coutinho can share the number 10 role or compliment each other in interchange like cazorla and ozil. Kagawa is top class, and he and El-Shaarawy will not only put us in a good position for CL qualification, but also CL success. we need 3 attack midfield maestros. Let it be Coutinho, Kagawa and El Shaarawy. then I reckon Liverpool will be a club to be feared. gonna a big £55m investment though, on 3 players
    El-Sharawy, Guidetti and Kagawa! #YNWA

  6. why should we buy another striker Jaimie? Simple really - we only have 2 at the moment!
An injury or suspension to either of them and then what ? We dont have a back up at all....Borini just wasn't good enough ,, for whatever reason.
This guy may well jump at the chance to "warm the bench" until he gets the chance due to injury or suspension -and we all know that could happen tomorrow....
Haven't seen him play so i cant comment if he's the right one - but i feel we definitely need another top quality striker - just look at City they have 4!
If we are to compete for the top places we most certainly need 3 at least!

  8. I understand what you mean JK but seriously, this guy is definitely no Borini. I understand that our chief scout and recruitment guys are ex Man city so I would imagine they'd have an extensive amount of info on him.
