Done Deal: 'Proud' LFC star quits Anfield for Spanish side AD Alcorcón. Loss...?

Liverpool winger Dani Pacheco has confirmed that he has signed a permanent deal with Spanish Segunda Division side AD Alcorcón.

A few minutes ago, Pacheco tweeted:

"I'm proud to announce that I'm joining Alcorcon permanent. I wanna say massive thanks to LFC for all they gave me in 6 years.

"I will always be a red. It's been my house and I will never forget it. Thanks to all you fans for the support and hope we celebrate"

Pacheco's exit comes as no surprise. In an interview with the official Liverpool FC website in November, he stressed that he is 'determined to make it at Liverpool', but he also expressed his disappointment at being regularly ignored. He said:

"It's difficult when you don't play too many games. You get confidence by playing every week and I haven't done that yet. If I didn't have the belief that I could become a regular here I would have left already. I'll try to make sure that in the near future that happens. If it doesn't happen I will move on and try to make it somewhere else".

Pacheco is only 21, but he must privately feel that he's wasted five years of his career. It's a massive shame because he is a talented player, and if Rodgers had given the youngster the same opportunities as Suso and Sterling, it's possible he may have grown into the team.

Who is to blame for Pacheco's failure to make it Anfield? The youngster has to take some responsibility for his own development, but in my view, Liverpool have failed to effectively develop Pacheco.

He arrived at the age of 17, and the club's job is to develop him to the extent that he is ready for the first team. That clearly hasn't happened, and it's just Pacheco's bad luck that he arrived at a time when the club was on the verge of serious turmoil.

Four consecutive LFC managers have basically ignored Pacheco, and I don't see how can he get experience or build any rhythm/understanding with his team-mates if he's never given a proper chance in the team?

Pacheco's experience should be a warning to the increasing number of young players arriving at Anfield. Getting to the club is just the first step; the chances of actually progressing through the academy and becoming a consistent first team regular is - on current evidence - extremely slim, and it's worthwhile thinking about the career-impact of that.

Anyway: Good luck, Dani!

  3. Not quick enough, strong enough or technically good enough - decent touch but no more and he didn't carry a serious goal threat or regular 'killer pass'. A prospect at 17 who didn't mature. I think the presence of Kelly, sterling, ibe and wisdom shows that if the talent level is high enough, opportunities will be sought - LFC can't afford to let real talent go - Dani wasn't real talent and is not good enough hence second division spanish football.

  4. Four managers "ignored him".... or perhaps they came to same conclusion. He was given chances inc Prem loan opportunity but it just didn't work out. But good luck to him.

  7. So this is how it looks
suarez up front with aspas as back up
sturridge on the right , sterling or moses on the left
and coutinho in midfield and allen/alberto as back up
with Henderson also able to play anywhere
    does not look bad

  11. There is another way to look at it, that he's been given several years and different opportunities to fulfil his potential and hasn't quite done so. It's not just about the club but the player too. Sometimes it just doesn't work out, and not for want of effort by either side. Also he doesn't seem to think he's wasted five years of his career...his goodbye is actually very generous and seems quite heartfelt. Best of luck to him in Spain.

  12. That's a joke right. Bendtner may be world class in his own head but to every one else he's plain average. Plus he'd be a disruptive influence

  16. Joining a second division Spanish side on a year contract, sums up where his career has gone. Best of luck anyway.

  17. Would be good I say. Kelly, Llori, Sakho, Toure, Agger, Skrtel....suddenly we have too many defenders.

  18. Sturidge is the cf Suarez will play off him ,I think Moses plays more on the right,so Suarez can play more left, with countinho behind, but to be honest they seem to play as a flowing forward line, bit like Dutch national team
Plus sterling will play often and he likes the left so Suarez can drop right
Suarez plays deeper collecting the ball and running at defence
We do look strong ,happy days
Roller coaster ride ahead I'm sure but I can see progress happening with this team

  20. Never fullfilled the high hopes we've had for him.
A shame, maybe better man managment when he was younger could have seen him shine.
Good luck in the future kid.

  21. Indeed Mr Chan. Being great at youth level doesn`t mean you will make the step up. It takes something more than just talent to make it into the first team.Pacheco was prob Spains best young player a few years ago, but like so many youngsters progress from best young to best player is still a big step.

  22. It's everyone who is ultimately responsible, they all have to work together to get the most out of the player. The club needs to give a young player the coaching, the skills development and the playing time to get better. The player has to deliver and follow a clear progress. There is no one entity to "blame" which to me is a pointless exercise anyway. To say the club was entirely responsible just isn't true because the player was part of the same setup that has given a path to success for guys like Shelvey, Kelly, Sterling and now Jordan Ibe. It's a short list, but clearly the players are given the tools to make it into the first team squad otherwise none of them would make it. What I suspect is the main issue here is depth in the youth setup. Liverpool is loaded with young talent and there are ultimately not that many first team spots available. That's the one point where I would agree entirely with JK on this one: Young players need to be realistic in their chances with a club like Liverpool. They are thrown into a youth set up with a large number of highly talented players. Then consider the end-point you are aiming for: to be a success at Liverpool means you are probably representing your country at senior level. You are approaching what some would call "world class". You can't be an average player and do well at a club like this. It's an incredibly high benchmark so the reality is that many many young players will just never be good enough. Not making that level isn't entirely a failure and it's not that something was done "wrong", it's just the reality of scale that says not everyone who wants to be a PL footballer is going to be a success. That's kind of obvious. Pacheco may have just fallen into that category.

  23. Totally. Wisdom won't get a look-in now, not after Skrtel put in a good shift against United. Kelly will still fancy that right back spot so he's got a chance to play, but in the middle it's a log jam of quality. No complaints from me, but too much to ask for someone like Wisdom to break through.

  24. I think of it as an alternating 1-2 forward line. There will always be one player in the centre, one player sitting just behind and then one player out wide. If we go wide left then Coutinho is the wide player, Sturridge in the middle and Suarez in the pocket. Go the other way and Sturridge is wide, Suarez is through the middle and Coutinho in the pocket. Despite Sturridge being considered more the true centre forward he spent quite a bit of time on the right so far and I don't think that will change. Suarez will still be preferred to get more time on the ball and Sturridge won't be adversely affected by that.

I guess in the end it will all be dynamic and quite hard to pin down. That's how it should be. We now have 4 quality (Moses included) attacking players who should be able to do their stuff in any position in the attacking half. These guys won't be locked down into fixed positions, they'll have to work together to find the right space in the right formation to break down an opposition team. Considering how much they all cost us, we've done really well.
