Earlier this week, exciting Anzhi attacker Willian Borges da Silva revealed that he is 'hopeful' of a move to Anfield this summer, and if his Twitter feed is anything to go by, it looks like the Reds have a great chance of signing the Brazilian, who is also wanted by Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.
According to The Telegraph this week:
"Liverpool have emerged as the favourites to sign the Brazilian playmaker Willian for £30m.
"Willian was in England last week to try and negotiate his future after he was put up for sale by Anzhi"
When asked about the possibility of a move to the Premier League, Willian told ESPN:
"There are talks, and I'm waiting for a new bid to arrive in the next days from a few clubs, like Liverpool. If it's really Liverpool, then it is surely a great club. I'm hopeful and very calm, just waiting for the best"
Willian also revealed his strong preference for the Premier League:
"England is my goal. The English championship is the dream of many players and I'm no different. I like the Premier League very much, and I enjoy the English football"
If Liverpool signed Willian it would be a tremendous statement of intent from the club, but realistically, what are the chances? Well, last night, Willian started following fellow Brazilians Lucas and Coutinho on Twitter, which could be a sign that the Reds hold the advantage:
Granted, it's a tenuous link, but Willian hasn't started following any Man United or Spurs players, so it has to be a positive sign. Additionally, there is precedent for this: in January, Coutinho started following Lucas prior to his move, and look what happened.
As I said, tenuous (!), but with his previous pro-LFC comments, and now this, it's clear that Willian has a preference for Anfield, and if that's the case, then FSG need to get down to business ASAP.
UPDATE: Sun 18/8 - LFC First team physio Chris Morgan is now following Willian on Twitter. Another good omen...?
Anfield legend Dietmar Hamann is in favour of the move, and believes Willian can take the Reds to the next level. He tweeted:
"Liverpool interested in Willian? If true, I'm very excited. If Willian joins [LFC] I think a top 4 finish is realistic"
Willian wants a move to Anfield, and Liverpool allegedly want him, so there's no real excuse not to pull out all the stops and seal the deal. If the club gets massively outbid, or another team agrees to pay astronomical wages, then fair enough, but Liverpool have a real chance here, and hopefully the club will aggressively pursue the Brazilian.

I wish LFC do sign him, would be a great signing as well as marquee. Would also make a great impact in terms of quality as quantity to the squad. Will also make senior players and talented one's to consider LFC before leaving LFC. If he's the marquee signing then I am happy and would be hopeful for a top 4 finish. Lets not jinx his possibility of coming to LFC. #excited #optimistic
ReplyDeletenot sure he is worth 30mn
ReplyDeleteWell spotted Jamie. Looks like it may happen. What a forward line up if it does. Willian - Sturridge - Suarez. With Coutinho as AM just behind.
ReplyDeleteHe was left out of the squad today for his current side,positive?:-) I really think he would do well in the prem, he has a eye for a pass, like coutinho, and has pace and trickery.
ReplyDeleteDespite how tenuous this may appear I definitely think there is something in that. Willian definitely seems interested in signing for us and Anzhi are also interested in selling.. Now all we need to do is wait for LFC to stuff up the transfer somehow. Hoping that doesnt happen of course. Would love to see him in a red shirt.
ReplyDeleteLove to see him sign for us!

how about 25mil for arda turan?
ReplyDeleteAgreed. It seems 30m doesnt get you much these days.
ReplyDeleteI really hope so but is he worth £30 million? For that sort of money we should be getting someone with a proven record but saying that Suarez wasn't really well known before he signed so if he can have the same impact Suarez had without all his nonsense then he will be worth it.
ReplyDeleteHe ripped Chelsea apart last season in CL. He a good player has goals and bags of assist, would feed Suarez, and Sturridge plenty of balls.
ReplyDeleteGet ready to eat some humble pie Jason i think its coming your way, also we played the best football that's been on today ;)
ReplyDeleteIf we get him the Merseyside derby will have extra spice.FELLANI Vs WILLIAN the battle of the Afros!
ReplyDeleteGET IN THERE REDS
ReplyDeleteGod dammit if FSG is not willing to pay for it,as a fan i'll pay 30 mil rupiah.
ReplyDeleteGood article, you might be on to something with the twitter thing.
ReplyDeleteSuarez......Sturridge.........Willian
....................Coutinho
If that isn't a top 4 attack I don't know what is, also Aspas and Sterling coming off the bench to change matches and Liverpool would be dangerous.
Jaimie...can u get the stats of willian as your normally post?
ReplyDeleteI think you can do better for the price but otherwise I think the only strong interest is yours, Spurs are after Lameha and \ or Pjanic and Man U Modric.
ReplyDeletewillian and coutinho is bouncing
ReplyDeletethe club have the money , 22m bid for costa add that to 8m from downing and spearing and maybe a few extra saved on lb the money is there
also the wages last year we payed big to sahin , he ,cole, reina, carra, downing, all of the wage bill
that is about half a millon
Who followed who first. ? If costa would have set us back 22 and HM 26 then Willam is worth £30. Why are people moaning about the price? With all the cost cutting lfc have done in the last 3 years we must have saved over £100 mill in wages alone.
ReplyDeleteNot for 30 mill no wayy. 22/25 mill max and it'll be perfect.
ReplyDeletethere are other benefits to signing a guy like willian aside from talent.....it attracts other players to the club who may of not been interested....the club gets momentum all of a sudden players look twice when we come in .....its a case of hang on there that clubs got talent and may be on to the start of something i wanna be part of it....
ReplyDeleteTweet tweet! Liverpool fans are so desperate that they now resort to clutching at straws!!
ReplyDeleteleave crouches legs out of it
ReplyDeleteif im honest i never really wanted Hm or costa
ReplyDeleteThe guy running Kopsource @dom_campbell says "Fee agreed for £32m for Willian" on his twitter account.
ReplyDeleteWhen Rooney is been mentioned in the £30-£40mil price tag bracket then Willian is worth £30mil all day long
ReplyDelete32 million??? Nooo!
ReplyDeleteWhy it matter? He a talent and we need players like him in our team :)
ReplyDeleteOpinion. I would take Rooney for 30mn.
ReplyDeleteHe played in Ukrainian League and Torres ripped Chelsea apart few days before he moved for 50mn. Was he worth it?
ReplyDeleteI wouldnt
ReplyDeleteSuarez WAS well known....
ReplyDeleteTo be honest i think liverpool should pay 30 mill for him whats the point of missing out on him for the sake of a few mill. Sign this guy he is quality this is the type of player we need to be signinig every season and we will soon be back where we belong.
ReplyDeleteHave'nt heard of a bid put in for him yet, makes you think there's not much in this story, but he is quality, whoever gets him, he'll do well for them.
ReplyDeleteNo he was not but Willian is a totally different player and in this market he is worth the £30mil, with him, Suarez, Coutinho and Sturridge we would have a truly frightening front 4 thats full of pace and trickery, they would be the most frightening prospect in the premier league, in my opinion :)
ReplyDeletewhy worry its not your money ...plus guys like this usually have a decent sell on value if they don't succeed ..its not like buying an austin allegro
ReplyDeleteWe paid £35mil for Carroll..... so £32mil for Willian is a bargain
ReplyDeleteMe too although HM looks good. The only one I ever noticed was willan. Would really improve the team. Don't want to get too upbeat as I'm sure it will be a season of ups and downs but with him it will be a little easier.
ReplyDeleteI like Willian but 30mn, not sure.
ReplyDeleteI get what your saying its just in the current stupidly inflated market he is a £30mil player, we offered £22mil for Costa so that kinda tells you where we are at don't it
ReplyDeleteIf Liverpool do actually sign Willian and Sakho, I hope that the club would harbour ambitions greater than just a top 4 finish.
ReplyDeleteI'd adjust targets to at least the +80 point barrier and a top 3 challenge.
How about £8mil?
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't Rooney doesn't compare 2 Willian
ReplyDeleteRooney doesn't compare to most decent players he is vastly overrated
ReplyDeleteIf the talk of 25 million for Jackson Martinez is true I would take him instead
ReplyDeleteNot really mate he wasn't a big name in football, in his league maybe and home country but not hugely known
ReplyDeleteI would agree if we got ourselves a strong midfielder as Henderson does not tackle and Lucas unfortunately aint Mascherano quality, Allen well lets not go into that one, and Gerrard cant do everything
ReplyDeleteIf we only bid 22/25 and didn't get him there would be uproar
ReplyDeleteCompletely different type of player, but i agree he looks quality
ReplyDeleteI know it has zero in regards to real life but he's a beast in FIFA and having in him on the team would make Liverpool a much more popular choice amongst players haha.
ReplyDeleteWillian is younger, has more to his game that Torres. 30 mil may seem expensive but why are teams wanting him? Chelsea/city,united,spurs.
ReplyDeletei agree willian has more strings to his bow...torres like owen is all about the pace without it average...willian can pick a pass beat a man you name it
ReplyDeleteLucas was awesome today. I'd be happy with this transfer window if we pick up Willian. Selling Downing for £6m was our best bit of business.
ReplyDeleteno rooney is way better, but willian is defo worth 30 mill
ReplyDeleteI think FSG may be doing it as a statement of intent. They want Suarez to stay (and be happy to stay) and have to show they're prepared to build a team round him peppered with some class. Huge fee, but if it's the player they think will move the club forward, why not?
ReplyDeleteAfter all, they haven't actually spent any money yet (net).........
Chelsea fans say Willian is more dangerous than Mata.
ReplyDeleteits not about tackling its about controling and limiting the oppositions play in the middle....naturally you have to tackle....and size should give you an advantage....but Masha wast that big and neither was roy keane
ReplyDeleteTerima Kasih Merah33, tettapi hanya, £1700 - £1800.
ReplyDeleteA little bit short of what he costs, I would say, he he.
We should have taken our chance last year for 11 mill. But he's a striker, which we could do with, however think BR wants a left winger. This is why he sold downing.
ReplyDeleteI know I was in a tiny minority on this, but I always thought that Mascherano was over-rated
ReplyDelete1) We don't really know that as a fact
ReplyDelete2) He is highly rated, very good player...I agree. I just see it as a gamble.
3) I would like to buy Diame (3mn), Papa (12mn) and Benteke (20mn) instead and strengthen 3 areas.
Naw, Carroll for £15m + £2m loan fee has to be the best deal for me!
ReplyDeleteMan City would have a more proven attack still, but for me those attacking options would be on par with anything else that the Premier League has to offer
ReplyDeletehe did what he did ....but i agree ...he could have added a few goals to his game...thats something id like lucas to do this year have a crack at goal,,,i think every player should at least score one or two goals a year
ReplyDeleteSuarez had been linked with many other clubs, including Madrid, before we signed him, but then his reputation took a hit at Ajax (in much the same way as it has done at Liverpool), and we were able to sneak in and snatch him up without any competition (like Arsenal are trying to do now)
ReplyDeleteRooney way better? hmm sorry i disagree
ReplyDeleteHenderson does not control the midfield or limit the oppositions play, the last midfielder we had that truly ran our midfield was Alonso, what a midfield we had in those days eh
ReplyDeleteI agree with that, i think Rafa realised that Masch was a limited player AFTER he bought him, so created a role for him as DM....basically a tackler who relied on the likes of Stevie G & Alonso to create anything.....
ReplyDeleteKuyt i think was bought as a striker.....but became a winger for the same reason.....
Babel.......
Funny how Rafa managed to convince mostly everyone of his own tactical genius etc...... but personally i think he actually made it up as he went along, just had a defensive system of play hence the DM even against lesser teams where we souldn't of needed one....
Give me BR's attacking style of football any day of the week, thanks!
From what i have seen i would agree
ReplyDeleteSounds like an interesting player. Always good to have a few different attacking options. Haven't seen him play, to my recollection. On another note; a lot of fans seems to be interested in Eriksen from Ajax. Personally I don't watch the Eresdivisie, however I have seen him quite a bit for Denmark, and I'm quite surprised that so many wants to see him in a red shirt. Don't get me wrong; he's a decent player, but he's not really a world beater (I think). He has decent tecknique, and can spot a pass from time to time, but for me he seems a bit slowish, and disappears from games quite often. He doesn't really strike me as someone who can step in and make a real difference. Jaimie, or anybody out there who have seen them regulary for Ajax and Zenith /Shaktar, how are these two players week in/ week out contribution?
ReplyDeleteHe wasn't over-rated but he was an animal
ReplyDeleteI've had a bit of a look at Willian & im imprssed tbh, think there might be a touch of Ronaldinho about him, certainly seems to be the type of player that would fit into this new system & being a marquee signing would take the onus/attention away from Suarez....
ReplyDeleteEssential that we make at least 1 signing like this this summer, will definitely add to our attacking line for sure.
Hope this one's in the bag, fingers crossed.
I think it's about putting a statement out to other clubs, also if we sign him it would help us get other top players in
ReplyDeleteI actually don't think like that. We made enough statements for next 10 years during Kenny's regime.
ReplyDeletealonso is as good as it gets but players like him are few and far what was rafa thinking swapping barry for him
ReplyDeleteCissohko comes into liverpool tomorrow. Medical Monday I think.
ReplyDeleteI would buy Mata for 40mn any day.
ReplyDeletetoday we did attack...but last year at times we just passed for passing sake inviting teams onto us.....ive said the style we play means there is a chance we will leak goals so we have to start fast and get the first goal...if ruth would have scored first i think there's a good chance we would have lost as the system seems to go to pot if we concede a goal
ReplyDeleteBut we are in no position to spend 30 mill on one guy when other places need strengthening. I really wanted to see papa from schalke. And a dembele/yaya t type player, that Brazilian guy we were interested in like a month ago that's 18 years old. He is amazingg
ReplyDeleteLast season was IMO an expose our weak links....for me certain players just weren't cutting it, our defence was a shambles, our GK was oftentimes a liability, we didn't link up well up front either....so kept losing posession....inviting pressure on ourselves....full backs???
ReplyDelete& THAT is what i see the Club trying very hard to rectify in this window......
Don't think its the system we are playing that has been going to pot at all, i like BR's style, it is attack minded essentially relying on our forward play quick passing...pressing high, keeping the pressure on, clearly you need the right type of players for this system to work just like you would if you were trying to implement a more defensive style....
Takes time, Rafa had time, Houllier had time but neither could crack it but by god i actually think Rodgers could....
Seriosly, with the right players we could become a real dominant force again & not just for the short term either......look at the age of a lot of new players.....
Bar Kolo of course... but still. :-)
Very true, people think its 30 mill lost but some players can make that and more in other ways. More tickets sold, top players wanna stay, top players wanna come, sponsors, more world wide fans. It's the things that people don't see that are worth more.
ReplyDeleteGood spot, there is a a lot of inspector gadget stuff going on here, I like it. Stay away Man U and tott
ReplyDeleteLol, there's just no pleasing some people.....
ReplyDeleteIf we don't spend big we are unhappy....& now the news is breaking that we might spend big on this guy & still there are those who are unhappy...
If Cissokho is on his way, thats LB sorted, if this guy signs thats the forward player sorted, just need Sakho perhaps and we're on our way, its not about what YOU want mate.....its more about what WE need.....
Cheer up ffs! :-)
Benteke isn't leaving this year, papa apparently is valued at 16+ mill and diame can be very hot and cold and I doubt west ham would sell. In that case willan is one of very few who is available. If we get him is another question.
ReplyDeleteKenny made bad statements? Downing 20 mill?? Willian is a very different type of statement.
ReplyDeleteBR to get his second Brazilian in a year? Is it past watershed yet?
ReplyDeleteIt all seems to be falling into place at the right time, getting a good feeling about these new signings.
ReplyDeleteHe is a good technical player who can get shots on goal, but that is not his strength. His real strength is creating high quality goal scoring chances. He looked good against Chelsea, the most I saw of him was when I was looking at the you tube clips of Henrikh M when we were linked with him, I saw about 90% of his goals were assisted by Willian and rember thinking at the time that looks like the player we should be going for ratger than Henrikh. Now lets hope what happened with the Henrikh transfer doesn't happen her. The good thing is that unlike the Henrikh situation we actually have willian coming out and saying positive things about Liverpool link. So lets hope the club acts quickly before the Champions League teams start sniffing around, as thats where we can't compete at the moment. Oh and well done to the boys for the 3 points today. One game at a time.
ReplyDeleteHope he waxes lyrical about Willan like he does with Coutinho...
ReplyDeleteWith him and Coutinho, even Borini could be EPL top scorer.
ReplyDeleteHow about Toure for free...
ReplyDeleteHearing that Willian is Suarez's replacement. Suarez is off abroad. 100% happening.
ReplyDeleteReally hope that's true, but i doubt it.
ReplyDeleteWhere'd ya hear that?
Three players who are not going anywhere.
ReplyDeletekenny made a good statement in suarez and hendo is better than joe allen by 10m plus downing was also signed by comolli it was he and not the 3 time champions league winner who set the fee and wages but bring kenny up and forget what he has done for the 96 and the city you don't live in
ReplyDeletewell buy him then on football manager have you ever been to liverpool?????
ReplyDeleteWith Willian, Coutinho and Sturridge, who needs Suarez?
ReplyDeleteNot going to happen, and willian isn't a totally different to Suarez.
ReplyDeleteTwo villains on the park, absolutely fantastic. No more Dummy Spitting JK.
ReplyDeleteScrew Suarez. We shouldn't be making signings to satisfy him. It's that kind of attitude that gave him his over inflated self opinion.
ReplyDeleteI think he was too. He also did too many stupid things.
ReplyDeleteReds, this could very well happen!

Top 4? I think so!!
Said some bloke at the pub, because it sounded plausible, so now lots of people think it's true. It's called rumour. If it turns out to be true the bloke who said it will be a legend for at least the next week or so. Worth the gamble on his part I think.
ReplyDeleteI think this is the perfect demonstration of why the way we do business is right. Nothing has happened here beyond the club starting a conversation with the player's current employer. Even his comments suggests he doesn't know the interest is firm. What this means is that we get to find players who actually want to come here, not players who need to be convinced. The notion that we should be out there convincing players to come play for us is entirely the wrong way to go about it. The attitude from a player who is not clear on why he would play for Liverpool is not the attitude Rodger's is looking for. Those players are not "hungry" to play for LFC. Maybe that was Dempsey or Mhkitaryan. So fair enough, they're not the right players for us.
ReplyDeleteDidn't we sign Coutinho without Rodgers even speaking to the player? Fawning over players, making them feel "wanted" (how do you even do that?) or offering big wages isn't the way to do it. No matter how good a player, if they're not interested in what we're trying to do here then we don't need them. Suarez seems to be the massive contradiction in this but Rodgers has said that until Luis is back to 100% commitment then he's not going to even train with the first team. And that's how it should be. It's consistent and it works. We want players who want to be at LFC and that's all there is to it.
I saw the same thing you did. A guy to tee up Sturridge or even get the ball to Borini in behind the line. Someone needs to get that kid scoring some goals. Absolutely it's what we need - creative, quick and dynamic Brazilians on both sides of the pitch ... it's mouth-watering. It turns those half-chances into tap-ins and hopefully converts those shots off the post into goals.
ReplyDeleteIt's also part of why this style of play works. You have to drag the opposition out of their position, give them the sense that they can get the ball from you, otherwise they'll just sit deep. You are literally inviting them onto you, it's how you create the spaces to get through them. It absolutely gets harder if we go one down and the opposition is suddenly very happy to sit deep. It also means that mistakes can be severely punished, but the answer to that is to just not make mistakes. I'll be interested to see how we play in a few months once the team settles a bit and we come up against someone determined to play out a 0-0 draw.
ReplyDelete17 million for a player who we probably should have only bought for 12. That 35 million will go down in history as the most absurd over-priced transfer ever.
ReplyDeleteAnything that comes from that site is worthless, I wouldn't give it a second thought.
ReplyDeleteChelsea and United already have settled wingers. I'm not sure if Spurs are really going to splash another 30 mil on another player after their spending spree (and they have the best winger in the world for now).
ReplyDeleteYes the current market is ridiculous, but it is the way it is, we'll have to weigh the player's potential contribution to the squad as a whole against the asking price. If he is deemed to add quality to the squad, then balking over a high transfer just runs the risk of losing out to another club. Yes we will not be held to ransom, but sometimes there is no choice but to fork it over, or risk missing out on targets altogether.
ReplyDeleteWhy would you ask that? Yes, I have been to Liverpool when I was in Essex pursuing my PG/Masters degree. I have been to almost all major cities in UK. Anfield tour was a dream come true but couldn't watch a game as it was too far from Colchester, Essex and I had very little time anyway.
ReplyDeleteI didnt buy him on Football Manager as I almost always play as Liverpool Manager. But he is good.
I am sorry, you are getting me all wrong. Ok, I don't live in Liverpool but I love the club. I mentioned Kenny because we suffered a huge loss during that transfer window. I love Kenny but he made few costly mistakes. I am a Liverpool fan till I die but not a blind one. Besides if only people from Liverpool are true fan then its a very narrow minded view. I always thought LFC as a global club. I started following Liverpool 4 years back when they finished 7th and I still don't know why I love the club. I think it was the fan culture, emotion and passion that this club have. It is still unique. Sorry for not being a scouse but I love your city and club anyway.
ReplyDeleteDiame has a buyout clause, 3mn.
ReplyDeleteLooks like we are also being linked with Leandro Damiao too !! Thats a lot of Brazilians lol and we beat one of our boogie teams everybody sing "Happy Days are here again" right whos next ! ohh um ok. Lets just take it one game at a time but definitely feeling more positive again
ReplyDeleteWhat on earth has anything got to do with having been to Liverpool you fool. It's the second time you've mentioned it. You call yourself a fan. We don't need fans like you so why don't you trot off down the east lancs an park yor arse up at old trafford
ReplyDeleteYou don't like people from outside of Liverpool supporting us do you? Well what about the players that play for us who can't even speak English you moron.think before you speak
ReplyDeleteFact is that if a massive offer had to come in now for Suarez and we agree to it then Suarez will leave without even blinking.
ReplyDeleteWe will only sign Willian if he can prove that he wants to play for the LFC and that might have to see Willian taking a wage cut on his current 120k a week wages.
He is a good player no doubt but still think it is a slight risk paying that much for Willian but lets see what happens.
Lets be clear, he's not as good as HM, and more expensive. However, a front 4 of him, phil, sturridge and suarez will be fairly potent.
ReplyDeletea dominant CB is essential if we are going to go for 4th.
If nobody is interested in signing Skrtel or Coates then i highly doubt another CB will be recruited.
ReplyDeleteToure is a top CB. We have been begging for a CB like him for years.
It's a lot. But I look e.g. at Aspas, how we thought he might be OK but nothing special, and yet how well he fit the system against Stoke. He is exactly the kind of player we needed and he makes all the right runs, the right turns, the right passes. He's not a superstar but he's perfect for our way of playing and suddenly I think most LFC fans will think he can earn a starting spot after how he played on debut. Now apply that same extension to a player with more even more skills and perhaps you have Willian. If he's a perfect fit for the team just in the way he plays and yet also has that level of skill and talent that demands a genuine 30 million pound fee ... he could really drive us to a new level. I think it comes down to how much confidence Rodgers and the scouting team have in him. They can make that call so that if he's the best available option out there maybe you just pay what's required to get him.
ReplyDeleteagreed, we're signing no one unless someone leaves. Too many overpaid CB on the bench right now, it would be impossible to add a big signing to that.
ReplyDeleteYip, it is like my article Jaimie posted on this site regarding the likes of Aspas and Alberto.
ReplyDeleteThere is no reason why signing like those will not be able to get us into the CL. Aspas is in no way a risk at 7 million and the signs of him being a top notch signing is already there.
Do you know the way to San Jose ?
ReplyDeletetorres and scevchenko take some beating
ReplyDeletehe was very good for west ham yesterday ,we should da straight swap him with SD .
ReplyDeleteakf - don't clog threads with pointless posts like this. Whether someone has been Liverpool is irrelevant.
ReplyDeletewhere have the news come from that we are in for Damiao of Internacional? and folding with willian race now that manure has stepped in? is there any base to those? i dont think we need one more central striker able to play only as central striker? damiao is fantastic talent no doubt, but i dont think he can be utilized out wide.
ReplyDeleteGET BENTEKE
ReplyDeleteIt's actually a good point about Chris Morgan. Otherwise, what would make the LFC physio follow a player looking more likely to join Utd or Spurs? He's probably one of the most informed people on the planet about this situation. Things are definitely starting to add up.
ReplyDeletehe just re-signed with villa mate.
ReplyDeleteWell said Jamie. I am sick of hearing "have you even been to Liverpool" from people who think anyone who hasn't is not worthy of being a LFC supporter.
ReplyDeleteI love God but I haven't been to heaven!
You're buzzing that he has followed them two but he's from the same country plays for the same team course he is going to follow them
ReplyDeleteChirag, don't be sorry for not being a scouse. All men are equal no matter where they come from. We have foreign owners, foreign players, foreign tours every year. All that is ok for these narrow minded fools who regard themselves as superior to foreign supporters. These fools should ask themselves where would LFC be today if they had local owners, local players, local supporters and no overseas revenue?? The same people drool over someone like Suarez and are happy to get rid of "there own" like Jay Spearing! Hypocrisy at another level.
ReplyDeletesturridge upfront
ReplyDeletewillian on the left
suuarez on the right and coutinho in the centre
this is jus as good as chelsea's attack
fingers crossed/touch wood we get him
so you mean that people who live in liverpool are the only one's to support the club
ReplyDeleteif so, then fook you
tittle challengers more like
ReplyDeleteso why would liverpool physio follow him
ReplyDeleteThis guy is Walcott fast and a much better dribbler. He is so quick on his feet. Almost unbelivable
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely, ironically it was during KK's reign Diame almost became an LFC player. If we are really serious abt Diame we could get him! I still think we're light weight & we looked it in the last 15mins yday!
ReplyDeleteAnd if it is about country ties, why doesn't he follow anderson, Oscar, Sandro, Paulinho? He chooses to follow other non-national-squad players (not that coutinho will stay out for long :D)
ReplyDeleteHowever I believe there is a difference between hunger to play for a team, and loyalty. I do believe that Suarez will give 100% when he plays because he thoroughly likes playing for Liverpool. HOWEVER, if a good offer comes, he would leave in an instant. It is a choice of good vs. better. I know this is a very bad comparison, but take food for an example. Pepperoni Pizza is amazing and I thoroughly enjoy eating it. HOWEVER, if something better is offered at a good price, like say meatlovers, I would switch in an instant. If they have the pizza, I would beg and beg to have it, just like suarez for Real. However, if I end up with Pepperoni, I would still love it just like before.
ReplyDeleteWhat I like is that he obviously has dribbling skill to get past defenders and a good shot on goal, but he doesn't rely on them to get a good performance. His main attribute is setting up quality chances in the box...not necessarily defense splitting gems like coutinho, but solid accurate crosses, and neat through balls anywhere in the park.
ReplyDeleteI really liked the idea of signing the eriksen and alderweireld pair for around 25m because it would strengthen 2 key areas for us. Eriksen seems so full of potential and Alderweireld looked really solid in defense. Willian on the other hand is quite costly at 30m but i put my trust in rodgers because he has made a lot of smart signings for Liverpool.
ReplyDeletediame is a sick player. so underrated i'd get him any day
ReplyDeleteliverpool has one of the biggest fan bases in the world and that in itself is what i would categorise as a bragging right. disrespecting non scouse LFC fans would be hypocritical and is nonsensical to say the least. completely agree Freddy.
ReplyDeleteThanks but I understand where his coming from. I wasn't raised as a Liverpool supporter and my knowledge about the club might not be as good as local lads. To be honest, I am just lucky that I am a Liverpool fan by choice. No worries :-)
ReplyDeleteI agree, but i got a feeling they will rotate constantly during a match.. ABSOLUTE nightmare for opposition defences :)
ReplyDeleteNO! It's like what Barnes said, we as fans have played a massive role in his self inflated view of himself. How many voices of dissent did you hear when he was up to his shenanigans from fans? Instead we offered (at times misguided) unwavering support in the face of the indefensible. (Though the kangaroo court of the race trail still makes my blood boil).
ReplyDeleteThat is the best shout I've heard in a long time!
ReplyDeleteUnwavering support? Not from me! I've been a voice of dissent since before Suarez even signed for LFC. It's great that Barnes is highlighting how fans overpraise players, but I've been making the argument constantly for the last 8 years.
ReplyDeleteAs someone below correctly mentioned, buying him would be a huge statement of intent. It tells not only EPL teams but Europe what our aims are. Just ask the Chelsea players what they thought of him. This could mean we may have to pay slightly over the odds to land him.
ReplyDeleteBeyond history we don't have a lot. Chelsea, Man City, PSG, Monaco and Anzhi* have all paid over the odds initially to get to where they currently are. Once you're there and your status rises then the amounts you have to pay will reduce. It's at this point when Liverpool's legacy/starts to comes into play. NONE of those mentioned clubs have the lure that our great club has given equal billing. So hopefully we take our medicine now...
Otherwise these three could do good things (again mentioned by someone else) for similar money:
Diame, Papa and Benteke
I'd be especially keen on Diame as on his day he really does run the middle of the park. Surprised no have mentioned Martin Kelly for CB. Why?
He has now.
ReplyDeleteJust sign him already. Spurs and Arsenal are our targets to overhaul
Fairly potent? talk about understatement! Sturridge I think had the best goal: game ratio and Suarez would probably been top scorer instead of 2nd if not for his ban, Willian had one of the highest assist\game ratios in Europe and Coutinho is going to be a star.
ReplyDeleteFairly potent?
Rather have Giroud and Arsenal's front 4 or Soldado and Chadli and Bale?
I'm really not worried about Suarez's loyalty. It's something we think is important as fans, it's an emotional thing. Players don't have that luxury when their careers have a short shelf life. Suarez believed he had a clause in his contract that gave him the choice to leave if a CL team made the right offer. I don't see anything wrong with that, except that his agent probably screwed the whole thing up and it turned messy. He handled it poorly but football is still the most important thing. So long as Suarez gives that 100% on the pitch and plays the way we know he can play then there is no problem. Image, reputation, off-field media scrutiny .. it's all of debatable impact.
ReplyDeletePipe dream more like. Who is our backup if Sturridge gets injured, which he did quite a lot last year? Borini, who so far hasn't shown anything to suggest that he could be in a team challenging for anything.
ReplyDeletePapa/Sakho? Unless we sell Skrtel, I can't see us signing Sakho. Papa probably won't leave Schalke, and they don't want to sell him, too.
A huge hint that is tenuous....
ReplyDeleteTrue that. Plus we would have to consider that our current net spending is somewhere around 5 million in the plus. A 30 million fee would still only mean a net spend of 25 million which is what you should expect from a team that is seriously ambitious. Sadly, reality has sunk in with more and more LFC fans and it's blatantly Obvious that we will not be signing this guy.
ReplyDeleteAh ok so Suarez and Henderson were Kenny's signings alone but Carrol and Downing were Commoli's? And maybe I should remind you that Hillsborough is a tragedy shared by all Liverpool supporters across the globe and that there weren't only scousers among the 96. Maybe you should go and tell their families they had no right to an opinion either.
ReplyDeleteThat's a crock mate, sorry. If anything, "being raised" as a Liverpool supporter means someone put no thought what so ever into becoming one in the first place. Knowing who wore the number 7 in the 1920-1921 season doesn't make someone more of a supporter. Nor does the fact that he was pushed out of his mommy closer to L6 than you. Local supporters are no better than any non local as a birthright, remember that well. It's sad enough there are some silly people in Liverpool who actually believe that but it would be more sad if we start believing this rubbish ourselves.
ReplyDeleteWe're not though. We have Lucas...
ReplyDeleteRemember what happened last season when he got injured? We don't have adequate cover. Allen or Hendo not adequate at all!
ReplyDeletewhich one?, I have been commenting too much.
ReplyDeleteWillain is also following Paulinho who plays for Spurs and Rafael for the Mancs...
ReplyDeleteI was being sarcastic :-)
ReplyDeleteSorry:)
ReplyDeleteWhat do you think abt our midfield?
I think the same as everyone else I guess. We're in need of a midfield enforcer
