Earlier this year, the Agent of Manchester City striker John Giudetti confirmed that the talented Swedish star wanted a loan move to an English club, and with the youngster now seeking a permanent move away - and Liverpool arguably in need of another striker - perhaps he'd be a good player for Brendan Rodgers to consider?
Multiple sources report today that Stoke City are close to agreeing a €6m deal for Guidetti, who grabbed an amazing 20 goals and 8 assists in 23 games during a recent loan spell at Feyenoord.
The Liverpool Echo linked Liverpool with a move for the talented striker during last summer's transfer window, during which the player also rejected a loan move to Seria A club Siena.
Giudetti is certainly highly regarded. PSG superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic is a big fan, as he revealed in a recent interview with AD Sportwereld:
“We need to treat this talent with great care. He [Giudetti] is still young, but his actions show that he is already very good. Give him time, he has a bright future"
Guidetti's success at Feyenoord also elicited praise from boss Ronald Koeman, who raved:
"I think that John can be as good as Zlatan Ibrahimovic. I've coached them both. Zlatan struggled a lot more than John to find his way in Netherlands. John is on the same level as players such as Wesley Sneijder and Rafael van der Vaart at that age".
That's high praise indeed. A loan deal to Anfield (or even a permanent deal) would seem to make sense for both Giudetti and Liverpool:
* He wants to move to a Premier League club.
* Given his age/experience, wages probably wouldn't be too excessive.
* Transfer fee definitely within LFC's budget.
* Fits LFC's transfer policy.
* Would fit nicely into the striker pecking order at LFC.
* Good competition for Sturridge, Suarez (if he stays) and especially Borini.
28 goals/assists in 23 games - albeit in the Eredivisie - is a brilliant achievement for such a young striker (he was 20 at the time), and I'd much rather have Guidetti than Victor Moses, who is currently being linked with the Reds. If Liverpool really pushed for Guidetti, I'm sure he'd almost certainly choose Anfield over Stoke City.
Worth a look?

I hope this is true. This would be perfect !! He has an amazing record and the added bonus of something to prove. Could be the best buy of the window with the exception of Toure
ReplyDeleteIt's funny the way some of our fans already have the knives out for Moses. I remember a certain Daniel Sturridge getting slated before he signed for the reds. Moses has proved he can score goals in the Premiership and in Europe with Chelsea, as well as doing a great job at Wigan .For John Giudetti it's early days. He may well be a potential star but presently the reds need a few more proven performers with a bit more experience.
ReplyDeleteThe main thing Guidetti and Ibrahimovic have in common is their oversized ego. Granted, he did do well at Feyenoord but that was the season before last. They wanted to sign him but he was convinced he would become a starter at Citeh after the season he had. Now I'm all for players with self belief but...
ReplyDeleteAgree with you about Moses by the way. Although I see another Sturridge situation arising. They won't loan him to us now and then we'll buy him in January. Since I was very wrong about Sturridge, I'll leave it at that :-)
ReplyDelete"In his 23 league appearances he scored just one goal and made just one assist." And they want over 10 mil for him where as we have youngsters who are already better than him in Sterling has better stats and IBE will also out do him. You are right about Giudetti being inexperienced but at that price he could actually be a bit like Sturridge. If we are going to spend 10 mil on an experienced player I would prefer that player to be better than our 18 year old or to have the potential to be better. Moses isnt IMO and seems like a bit of a rushed purchase. We can do better.
ReplyDeleteWhere's the evidence that Guidetti allegedly has an 'oversized ego', or that he was 'convinced he'd become a starter at City'?
ReplyDeleteThey can sound like whatever you like but I actually followed his season at Feyenoord. I saw how he behaved on the pitch and in the media. Feyenoord wanted to sign him on a permanent contract at the end of that season and Citeh were willing to do business. Yet Guidetti said himself that he didn't want to "take a step back" and stay at City because he believed he was ready to become a starter. That's not baseless, that's what he actually said.
ReplyDeleteWhy isn't that just a sign of confidence? Why does it have to be inflated ego? He did superbly at Feyenoord, so why shouldn't he push for a starting place at City?
ReplyDeleteif Eric has followed his career maybe thats his intuition ....some times y
ReplyDeleteyou have more chance of getting at dodo burger at macdonalds than finding a footballer without an oversized ego...
ReplyDeleteI was going to say once again we are linked to everybody .
ReplyDeleteBut for Once we are linked to no one .
Your putting out all these names but the clear Fact is there is nothing and wont be nothing .
the simple truth is we have been lied to Buy FSG and every time a player is linked to us from the club they are hoping someone else comes in to make a excuse why we didn't get them.
At this time first two games in Brendon Rodgers and team need the credit. So far yes its only two games in but with the thin Squad we do have how long can we last.
The clock is soon out on transfer market . And nothing is happening
Considering his age, stats are simply AMAZING.....
ReplyDeletemaybe in some weird way it will benfit us having a thin squad who knows ...a chef can have to many spices and ruin the sauce....there are loads of occasions where injury etc have forced changes on a coach and the team plays better...im not saying thats the case here but the system rogers plays means the players have to be close knit...or perhaps i should apply for a spokesman role for fsg at the club
ReplyDeleteI was not a Rodgers fan but football is about results and I ask you this Question . We go mid table again is that Rodgers fault . In this case what FSG have done No way in world its his fault but he will be first to go , And we as the fans will wait again next manager next year and before you know it 5 years have passes and nothing has happened
ReplyDeleteits a matter of agenda....im not sure what fsgs agenda is ...are they looking to build a commodity and sell or are they looking for success the two dont always go hand in hand....i think as an owner fsg is evolving and the goals it wants to achieve are evolving every year
ReplyDeleteI wonder what that would taste like :P
ReplyDeleteEvolving for the better or worse though...?
ReplyDeleteEvolving where ?
ReplyDeleteIt was obvious with Ibrahimovic and Mido from the get go as well. One ended up having a great career at the world's biggest clubs and one ended his career at Barnsley. Anyway, moving to Stoke may be good for him. He may get some games again and get his big move eventually.
ReplyDeleteits a matter of whose perspective you look at it from...an administrator employed by fsg at the club may deem finishing mid table and showing a small profit as more as more successful than finishing top at a loss .....
ReplyDeleteI didn't say he is no good did I? There such a thing as overconfident though. To think you go from reserve to displacing Aguero, Tevez and Dzeko based on a season at Feyenoord is a bit ott imo..
ReplyDeleteHe sure can take a penalty
ReplyDeleteWell, I would agree with you but this thin squad lacks sufficient quality. I agree to the extent that we'll have 38 league matches this year and a maximum of 10 cup matches since I don't expect us to win both (if any). That's a total of 48 games and we should be able to expect our regular starters to play at least 35 games in one season. So that means we'll need our backups for on average 13 games. A squad of 25 should be more than enough to handle that. That said, our squad currently holds 20 fit "senior" players and a handful of youngsters like Ibe, keep in mind I've already counted Sterling as a senior player. I also don't think we want to be too reliant on the likes of Luis Alberto and Borini to shoulder a large burden upfront when called upon. So another attacker is really needed as is a new CB. I think Touré's performance so far have made it painfully obvious what the difference is between players who win titles and players who don't and what we've been missing for a long time.
ReplyDeletethats where the but young policy falters when you see a guy like kolo...
ReplyDeleteIf he would of been that good he would of played more at city, I dont know him at all how he looks, he never plays, so hes unproven at epl still, we need to stop getting some un favorite players at their clubs and some very average ones as we always do, time to spent big as the world does, now we re after moses on loan is this how rodgers will take us to the top 4? This is so ridiculous, five days to go better sign some class otherwise mignolet and sturrudge wont save us all season and we seem to get lucky this season FINALLY but that wont go on all season, id sign that eriksen now hes not a world beater but surely the best option left plus a good finisher is a must, aspas not good enough.
ReplyDeleteI hope LFC can get this players soon.....After get this players, much better if LFC can sell out or loan Fabio Borini.
ReplyDeleteLFC...Don't ever you dream to get sign world class players if you are NO MONEY and scare to break the bank. You just can get shoping poster of players you want stick it on the wall. Only that thing you can do it.You are lucky Sturridge and Coutinho can fullfill our expectation. If they are fail......you will struggle again. Please do not too stingy about development the team with marquee signing.Quality is related to the big budget.FSG should sell out LFC team to another richest paerson or mega company if they not able to provide enough money to secure any players target.Very sad and angry to look 1 by 1 our target players miss to anothers clubs, especialy when see they join our rival clubs like MUFC and Spurs......I hate to lose something like this.LFC must sell out best players to fund more budget for get new players.Every season must start again and again.....this is why the team cannot give consistant performance.Best players must be sold out and start with new players who will take times to adapt new situation at the clubs.Awfull......
That's why there Always needs to be a mix. FSG said they want to model us on Arsenal which is fair enough but when Arsenal were winning things, really winning things, they had guys like Adams, Dixon and Keown at the back. Even later on they had Pires, Henry, who was an experienced player by that time and Bergkamp. It all went horribly wrong when Wenger started to rely too much on guys like Diaby etc to do it for him. I'm a big fan of giving youngsters a break and I applaud that we do that now. It was my biggest frustration under Houllier and Benitez. But you have to ballance it out with buys like Kolo.
ReplyDeleteOnly if he can play as a winger.
ReplyDeleteAs a swede my self and our lack of "starplayers" other then Zlatan the media follows him quite a bit and ofcourse he is confident but this is a guy that is training very hard and has a huge respect for older players if you see his interviews in City. After his season in Feyenoord you should know if you follow them that he actually had a sickness that has kept im away for over a year from food. And a s Jaimie pointed out. After that scoring record in Feyenoord who wouldn't like to stay and fight for their place in City. I think that says alot about a guy that he doesn't settle for less and just gives up his dream.
ReplyDeleteActually i think overall we need a DM then our squad is done..Diame is best and realistic target...
ReplyDeleteHis illness was not the reason he didn't stay though was it. And also not the reason for him acting quite the primadonna all season long either.
ReplyDeleteWhy do we need another striker
ReplyDeletewe need a winger and cdm
Why are people complaining about signings , sure we wanted a marquee signing but it has not happened , and now the right players are not available so it is best to save the 20m and make a cheap signing who can do the job
ReplyDeleteto be fair are team does not look that bad
ReplyDeleteStrikers (in a 433)suarez,coutinho,aspas,borini
Wingers sturridge,henderson,sterling
midfielders gerrard,lucas,allen and alberto
We are probably missing a winger and a cdm
Was that a script from Tarzan?
ReplyDeleteI dont know a real lot about this guy only saw a little bit of him but 6 million pounds represents a great buy even for a plan b player as he seems to have a lot of potential.
ReplyDeleteFits FSGs policy to a tea not sure about Rodgers though.
That's just how we talk in Liverpool.
ReplyDeleteMust have well changed since i moved south :) ungowa :)
ReplyDeleteI have seen this guy playing several times and he is good. I don't think anyone at LFC would go for him - another one biting the dust.
ReplyDeleteI love to see him in Liverpool squad very much.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I have learnt from the preseason friendlies and the first 2 premiership games to date is our style of play and the system we play. Moses IMO will fit in that system. He has the capability and dynamism to shift inwards from a wing position off the ball. He can play in that front 3 and he has potential to be even better. If LFC are interest in Moses, I have no doubt that Rodgers has done his homework. In Rodgers we trust. As for this guy, not too sure about him.
ReplyDeleteLFC must avoid from using unconsistent players like Downing, Carroll, Lucas, Henderson and Skrtel. They only just passenger players who want high salary but can give a little contribution or nothing. To dangerous only depend to all this players.Thank you very much because LFC already ship out Downing and Carroll this season.Borini, Skrtel, Henderson and Lucas will give trouble soon because sometimes make unconsistent performance.LFC will regret if still keep them all.Much better ship out before transfer window nearly closed. They all will effect all performance of team. LFC still can get more talented players, genius, briliant and fighters.Don't tell me F.Borini is great player if you rate his skill....Drible, corner kick, tackle, free kick, and what else? I cannot see the best yet.The good players we can see with only 2 or 3 of games, but F.Borini still never show up the best over than 13 apearence. He is so lucky because can score only 2 goal with a simple movement. How about assist and try ball? Not impessive and dissapointed for all of us.Just sell him and get more much2 better players like Leandro Damio or Christian Eriksen.Siem De Jong? Why not......This early summer LFC are wasting longer times about entertainment Luis Suarez transfer saga. The owner are too stingy about draw big budget to get marquee signing.John Henry can able give moral support but not to money support.1 by1 target players are miss out to anothers clubs.Very sick to look situation while the enemy clubs can hijack our target players. Can you feel it? Big mistake to let same players to repeat same mistake.Finaly become struggle life again.
ReplyDeleteWhy not Real give all 3 players to LFC ( OzIL, Karem and Di Maria) to swap with Luis Suarez if they realy serious want to get him? LFC will become REAL LIVERPOOL FC soon.
In our Rotterdam he was indeed a super-star... How could a mere 20-year-old NOT let something like that go to his head at-least a bit? ;) He ruled 010.
