Transfer Breakthrough: LFC in talks to buy 'important' €14m Brazilian. Next signing...?

Liverpool's search for a new left-back appears to be finally drawing to a close, with Granada defender Guilherme Siqueria now the Reds' top choice to provide much-needed competition for Jose Enrique.

According to Sky Sports:

"Liverpool are locked in talks with Granada as they look to agree a fee for Siqueira.

"Rodgers is keen to push through a deal before the start of the new Premier League season"

The Daily Mail further claims:

"Sources close to Siqueira confirmed to Sportsmail that Liverpool remain the only club to have tabled an official offer"

The Brazilian recently confirmed that he wants to leave Spain this summer, and Spanish newspaper AS reported last week:

"Granada are expecting to formal offer from Liverpool for Guilherme Siqueira. The Premier League club are keen on signing the left-back, telling Granada that they are "very interested" in the player. The Granada president placed a 14 million-euro price tag on the player, whose release clause is 25 million euros"

When asked about the Reds' interest during an interview last Sunday, Siqueira admitted the 'time had come' for him to move on. He told Brazilian newspaper Daily Catarini:

"The goal is this [to move]. The time has come. I have a price but it does not depend only on me. I hope any deal is achieved as quickly as possible. I have preference for Spain, but today English football is so advanced".

Granada boss Lucas Alcaraz certainly thinks highly of Siqueira, and in May, he enthusiastically told reporters:

"For us, Siqueira is very important. For me, he’s the best left-back there is in La Liga. It makes him even better having Brayan for competition, who is a great player and a great professional.”

Brendan Rodgers is on the lookout for another full-back, and in recent months, Liverpool have been linked with possible moves Ryan Bertrand, Lorenzo Melgarejo and Aly Cissokho.

A move for Cissoko appears to be dead in the water, with Sunderland now favourites to sign the French defender. Sky Sports claims:

"Sources close to the player claim personal terms have been agreed [with Sunderland] but the terms of the deal have yet to be decided"

A new left-back is definitely needed, but there are several other positions that are (arguably) more of a priority, including central defence, defensive midfield, and goalscoring midfielder.

Siqueira may be a good player, but at the age of 27, it's rather concerning that he's made only 152 appearances in the last 7 years, which is an average of just 21 games per season. Hopefully, there are no historical injury issues to worry about.

On the plus side, it looks like the Brazilian will bring an added attacking threat from the flanks. Last season, he grabbed 9 goals/assists in 35 games, and if he can replicate that at Liverpool, I'm sure fans will be more than happy.

  2. looks half decent, off topic some south american journo has tweeted suarez told him personally that "he's stayin and will sign a new contract".
(probably with a clause in this time!!)

If he does sign then we have improved our LB position, also he better at crossing than erinque and better defending wise.

  4. It will be a disgrace if LFC give Suarez a new contract. Why does he deserve one after all the hassle he's caused? What kind of message would that send? Players can p*ss all over LFC and they'll get rewarded with a pay rise? What a joke.

  5. When need to get either players from this list at least 3
    Diego Cantento loan to buy
    Luiz Gustavo ?
    Xlerdan Shaqiri
Willian but not worth 30 mil
    Sakho 8 mil
    then we have hope

    ReplyDelete
  6. What have they said to him for him to change his tune so much is must be big . The only thing is more money or he was told which players are coming?

    ReplyDelete
  7. I think, if he wants a new contract and if there's any truth in the report, it will be for the reason of correcting his agents original mistake regarding the wording of the buyout clause.

    ReplyDelete
  8. 70-80 mil clause fine

    ReplyDelete
  9. absolutely, apperntly suarez has put down to the support hes recieved from the fans(not the fat pay packet nor the set in stone clause he thought he had!)

    ReplyDelete
  10. Pay cut and 60 million buyout. Lol.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Support from the fans? Cynical attempt to manipulate fans, and they'll fall for it hook, line and sinker. It's the same thing Benitez used to do.

    ReplyDelete
  12. In today's market Willian is definitely worth £30m.
I'm not sure LFC should be spending £30m on any single player though.

    ReplyDelete
  13. You forgot the pay cut bit in your statement ;)
    Still get rid, I say.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I read a report where LFC were paying 5millions or something in that bracket. 14millions is steep (IMO).

    ReplyDelete
  15. Just understand that people have a strong view about him that different from yours. You have to accept that. However this is not first time it has happened in football. Remember Wayne Rooney even though his was not as bad as this guy.

    ReplyDelete
  16. At least give it up to LFC they did not get bullied by him!!

    ReplyDelete
  17. it strikes me as being a bit suspect. hes supposed to be keeping his mouth shut isn't he(especially on international duty)

    ReplyDelete
  18. With respect, please don't preach to me about people having different opinions. Where have I suggested otherwise? Where have I claimed I don't accept other views on the subject? I've merely stated my view like everyone else.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Apparently Suarez has been told sit it out, or play it out, he chose the latter.
And given an improved contract with probably a few bob more, and a defined release clause , which is a shame, GET RID ASAP..

Back to the topic, yes this guy would be a step forward at LB, but i'm not gonna hold my breath, based on our lack of quality transfers so far this window. Willian, Sahko, bla bla, lets get someone in, or declare interest in someone of quality.

    ReplyDelete
  20. If they give Suarez a new contract, that will be a massive sign of weakness, and further evidence of giving-in to Suarez (and selling out in the pursuit of success)

    ReplyDelete
  21. 14m is the price reportedly put on him by Granada. What the club actually pay remains to be seen.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Liverpool Kopites7:35 am, August 14, 2013

Giving him a new contract after all this IS a sign of being bullied.

    ReplyDelete
  23. You are entitled to your opinion just like everybody else when you make a comment about people been manipulated and fallen for it even if it's true they have the right to feel that way. Remember LFC has always been run as a family. And we all know in any family there is that one person that's not correct. "And you don't ever turn your back on family even when they do". (borrowed quote)

    ReplyDelete
  24. €14mill Euro, not £pounds. About £10mill.

    ReplyDelete
  25. That's another way of looking at it too!!

    ReplyDelete
  26. And where did I say that people don't have a right to feel that way? I didn't. You're just projecting this onto my comments.

Your tone is pretty patronising. 'Remember, LFC has always been run as a family'?

Please, give me a break (!)

    ReplyDelete
  27. I taught that's what every pundit says. I mean the team was owned by a family before the Texans came. As matter of fact am listening to Talksport right now and they are saying the samething. JK Family also can run a business.

    ReplyDelete
  28. You're right, LFC has always presented itself as a 'family club', but going around telling people to 'remember, LFC is a family club' is, to me, a little patronising. That might not be the case for others.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Off the topic
    Is Willian really worth 30m??
seen him play in champions league..he was very good..I think 20-25m will be okay but dont see that amount bringing him in todays markt condition..
I think this guy will complete our offensive side..

    ReplyDelete
  30. I see your point!! Sometimes politics causes people to forget what the actual big pictures is. We take sides and forget what LFC actually stands for. To me it's stands for FAMILY! That's why our fan base goes beyond the borders of LIVERPOOL. A big family like that will bring different views, ideas and yes bad behaviors.

    ReplyDelete
  31. LFC and Co, is a Sports business end of.
Us suckers perceive it to be something more, and to us, it is more.
But take off the blinkers and you will see, it is a multi million pound business, we are just some of their customers. Like all businesses they will do whatever it takes to protect their most prized asset, IE: Suarez.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'm not familiar with these players we are being linked with so cannot really offer a view on whether we should sign them or not.
HOWEVER, I want to say something about the recent reports that Suarez now want to stay and negotiate a new contract, no doubt with a clause allowing him to leave if a champions league clubs comes calling for a fee.
On top of that I suspect he'll want more money as well.
The ONLY reason IF this is true he's changed tack is because LFC have cornered him and no club outside of Arsenal have made a bid.

Suarez need to be MARGINLISED beyond his further 6 game ban by LFC.
What I mean is that LFC should build the team WITHOUT him and bring strikers beyond what we already have.

If we can get some quality strikers in this transfer window,as well as providing we are winning games WITHOUT Suarez come the end of his ban.
KEEP SUAREZ OUT OF THE STARTING 11.

This would serve a strong signal to ANY PLAYER already at Anfield thinking about doing the same thing as Suarez.
It would also PUNISH Suarez for his behaviour apology or not.
He'll learn a very very painful lesson and his form for the World cup as well as his place in the Uruguay team may be put in jeopardy.

I'm certain with this stance by the Club will really make him realise for every action there is a reaction.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Or you can sell him to Arsenal for whatever money and have him come and hurt your league chances.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Jaimie we should marginalise Suarz out the squad and providing we are winning games without him not play him.

    ReplyDelete
  35. LS has reportedly told a top Uruguayan reporter Martin Charquero he is not leaving LFC ,so do we have to fall in love with LS again ;)

  38. Simon Joseph Lau8:01 am, August 14, 2013

I think it's a win/win for the club. A new contract means his price gets jacked up further. I believe the club has every intention of selling him within the next 2 years.

    ReplyDelete
  39. OFFTOPIC:

can someone tell me what the hell is wrong with Suarez. apparently he has talked again in national duty, saying that he will propably remain at liverpool, and will propably sign a contract extension to remain at club.

does that mean that as Real wasnt intrested in him after all he has weighed his options, Arsenal isnt that big of a step up so he figures he can match the wage arsenal is offering here in liverpool.

I wish we offer no contract extension to him. greedy ****** *****. and i hope Liverpool continues the hard line and Suarez makes public apology. then i reconcider my own stance, propably will still want him out though.

    ReplyDelete
  40. if we are in for Willian that may have led to LS signing an new contract

    ReplyDelete
  41. we cannot afford Willian anymore. shouldve signed him from Shaktar

    ReplyDelete
  42. this is attempt of sarcasm is it not? =)

    ReplyDelete
  43. that's more likely the price we will pay £10 m

    ReplyDelete
  44. CONFIRMED; suarez has told el observado
"because of the affection of the people, i will stay".

    ReplyDelete
  45. we all love Brazillians (or is it too early for that)

    ReplyDelete
  46. "affection of the people"! it wasn't but 2 days ago he refused to apologise to the club. if real would've come calling would've our affection swayed him then? no, me neither.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Don't get too worked up over what LS said. His words have no creditability apart from saying he wants to leave LFC. Footballing skills aside, he does not fit to wear LFC's jersey at all, not anywhere near. Too bad only Arsenal is really keen in getting him.

    ReplyDelete
  48. i don't want him back and im one of his biggest fans......part of me thinks suarez is blagging liverpool to give him a contract with a defined release clause in it....there is no way they should pay him more...plus does it mean he has apologized.....

    ReplyDelete
  49. i was looking at hoe many games he played on another site but was unsure of how old he was ...152 isnt a lot is it

    ReplyDelete
  50. agree whats the point in giving him a new contract ,you can bet your life that this time its crystal clear in suarezs favour,40 million gone next season , i would rather get more now if we can

    ReplyDelete
  51. yes lets keep our best player on the bench and have another non discript season to please your moral values

    ReplyDelete
  52. I think it was 5million pounds then. I am not well aware of European currencies :P

    ReplyDelete
  53. i bet this news put you right of your corn flakes this morning jaimie, and maybe they are trying to force potential buyers hands ,give us the money now or lose out

    ReplyDelete
  54. Yes, it is 14m that Granada are saying but as I said I read a report that LFC tabled a bid of 5m.

What is your take on Williain? I think he's one hell of a player and could also be even better than Henrikh Mkhitaryan on who we've already missed out.

    ReplyDelete
  55. we have to agree to the terms of the contract also, we rejected a bid of 40 million and hes got 3 years left on his current deal, i cant envisage us putting any less than 50 million on his head in future clauses. all of this equates to a win win for lfc

    ReplyDelete
  56. Siqueira looks like a real handful from the little I have seen and I believe he will be a superb addition. Now regarding Suarez back tracking he is trying to climb his way out of a very deep hole he has dug for himself, he will move on at some point let's not try and fool ourselves it is only a matter of time and if we are in a stronger position come the end of the season to attract the top players we can line up the perfect replacement and let him move on.

    ReplyDelete
  57. He seems like a good option, although I don't know a lot about him...
I see Sturridge got 2 goals, in behind closed doors friendly! Nice! Also Alberto got another as well.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Totally agree, I hope he doesn't (get improved terms). Think he should just sit tight and be grateful IMO, he needs to learn to keep his mouth shut (In every sense) and show that he can play fairly without losing any of his passion.

    ReplyDelete
  59. That would be brilliant lol

    ReplyDelete
  60. suarez ,sturridge, willian, coutinho, gerrard, lucas, johnson, siquera, toure, agger and mingelot . That is a defenite cl team.
And if that team does not get cl then rodgers can get sacked

    ReplyDelete
  61. Willian looks a real player, I just hope IF we're in for him we offer what is needed and bring him in!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Pretty much yeah.

His agent was probably told by somebody who works at Real in a dark ally somewhere that they wanted him.

So Suarez began the whole saga in preparation for what he believed was a incoming bid from Real.

Real did probably tell Suarez this as they wanted a backup if they failed to sign the players they were really interesting in

Suarez goes overboard with the whole I want to leave, Liverpool remained strong and Real thought.. sod this, we are not getting involved.

As time as gone on more and more clubs who might of been interested have been put off by his antics and Liverpool very strong stance on their value.

He is now left in the position were the only club interested is Arsenal, a club famous for selling its best players and celebrate 4th place like its winning the League.

With JH and BR holding all the cards and making this a matter of principle Suarez has nowhere to go.

So he has a choice, either stay at Liverpool and rot or change his tune, play to make other clubs interested and try and get a new contract with a definite release clause.

    ReplyDelete
  63. if they are beding over backwards to keep him it will be in his favour, also wether it be 40 or 50 million ,its time for fsg to spend NOW,either way they cannot lose if we get champions league we have another 40million coming in ,if we do not we lose suarez ,but he will not get us there on his own

    ReplyDelete
  64. The price slapped on him is 30m and that IMO is a bit steep. Actually very steep and I wouldn't want LFC splashing any money in that range on one single player.

    ReplyDelete
  65. if hes committed ill draw a line under it...but the turn around seems strange..thats unless rogers and Suarez have sorted things behind closed doors....i still think this story will have a few more twists and turns....well at least it keeps the forum interesting hahaha

    ReplyDelete
  66. You can forget about a DM JK. I agree that it is the position we need to strengthen more than any other but Rodgers seems to think that just having Lucas is more than enough. I think he actually put Luis Alberto there earlier in pre-season.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I don't think, even if there is a new contract, that a pay rise will be part of it. Probably just a clarification of the release clause. I would say, higher amount for Liverpool, a guarantee that he can leave for Suarez.

    ReplyDelete
  68. we have been crying out for genuine guy to fill this role since masha left......i just hope we dont get bullied out of games

    ReplyDelete
  69. A lot of people understimate the power a club has in this respect. It's all about player power so it seems but a guy like Suarez who has a contract till 2017 can see his career finished by a club that is willing to pay his wages for the duration of that contract. Simple maths - let's say Suarez is on 100K a week. Makes 5.2 million per year (taxes for employers probably come on top of that but forget about that for a second). It's 2013 now and his contract runs another four years. So keeping him will cost 20.8 million. Arsenal want to pay 40 million but we value him at 80 million (Bale type money). By selling him now we don't only give in to "player power" we also lose 40 million in his transfer fee. FSG know that if they keep Suarez at the club, just sitting out his contract, like Bogarde did at Chelsea, will not be an option for him because if he does, he still doesn't get to fulfill his ambition. They also know that he would be 30 and out of the picture for four years if he were not to ever play for Liverpool again. So all in all, Suarez has a lot more to gain by giving in than FSG and the club do. For the club it's an expensive write off. For Suarez it's the end of his career.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Made my skin crawl when I read that. Who does he take us for?

    ReplyDelete
  71. gotta agree we cant cut our nose to spite our face id sell him to whoever but if hes staying he may as well be playing....we just dont have the squad or money to leave our best players out

    ReplyDelete
  72. from a club perspective jamie the whole thing needs closure if hes staying..so how does he ,rogers fsg get round it...where they can all co exist

    ReplyDelete
  73. Don't agree. It totally depends on what is in the contract. FSG took a stand and refused to be bullied. Now the message to Suarez and all other players in the world is clear. After all that, it is time to negotiate. Like it or not, we are a stronger team with Suarez in it. So we are all better off is a compromise is found where Suarez will return to the team fully motivated, not just Suarez himself. Now what is in the contract, if there even is one, is food for speculation but I expect it to be nothing more than an addendum that contains a release clause that describes the criteria and transfer fee at which we are willing to let him go. My guess would be no CL football and anything over 60 million quid.

    ReplyDelete
  74. We will. Like last year. The only difference is, more clubs have players like Diame who can do that for them now.

    ReplyDelete
  75. a lot of mid level teams have beefed up there side.....bony up front for swansea is an example...we had a nightmare last year against physical players i just hope rogers has it figured

    ReplyDelete
  76. true, although we have a much better chance with him in team, even if that very sentence makes me want to have a thurough wash...in a very hot bath...with bath salts...whilst smoking some...

    ReplyDelete
  77. Sounds like good business, although I'm just going on what other people say about the player. We do need someone of quality in that position, Enrique drives me nuts with his tendency to give the ball away, often in really dangerous positions.

CB ... yes, we need that too, but I'm convinced we have to come to a deal with Skrtel. We can't have him already on the bench and then bring in someone top class, it would be wasteful. If we can't get Skrtel moved on in a way the club is happy about then we won't sign anyone else in CB.

Attacking midfielder you just pray and hope for. We all know how essential this is, it's just obvious. Are we going to splash big money on Willian? It's an exciting conversation ...

    ReplyDelete
  78. Switch out Toure for Sakho - even better. It would be the team that Rodgers built for himself, he'd have zero excuses. All of those players he would have signed himself or spent plenty of time talking about how amazing they are. But I think if that's the team he ends up with then excuses won't be needed, we'll get a top 4 spot. That's just quality from back to front, in every corner of the pitch. Get them playing one-touch football at a high pace and we'll score a mountain of goals.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Yet another rumor. Seems 'signed' Cissoko is not ans will not be signed. More BS and no factual closings. Lets hope Sakho and Siqueira have any shred of fact about them......still no striker add.....Dont even THINK about new contract with Bucky beaver mr Suarez. Let him watch from afar even if we don't move up to CL year. We need BR and FSG to get better at focus and closings deals while retaining their stance on cry baby, flopping and arm biting Suarez.......fill out the squad without Suarezbut for God sake ACT and stop procrastinating.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Depends if they actually offer him more money. It might just be a revised release clause. Hard to really say without any details (which i am sure we will not get)

I guess what i am trying to say is that a new contract could be good for the club. If the release clause would say something like "Suarez can leave for 60m and not to a domestic rival"
But i would agree, to give him more money now, that is beyond a joke. I want him to stay but lets not bend over backwards for him

  83. This is why I have my reservations that Rodgers should have gone public demanding an apology. He is at risk of looking like a mug over this.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Agreed, I have not heard anything mentioned about a new contract just that he has conceded he will have to stay. If he apologizes then i have to agree with Jason and a few others on here that we need our best players on the pitch if we want to push for a CL spot. I personally want Suarez out because of the disrespect he has shown towards the club when we have backed him to the hill in some situation we should obviously never have done so. The only way back for Suarez for me is if over a long road of showing he can change his behavior. If he apologize not just for his sake but to show understanding that the way he has acted throughout his Liverpool career is totally unacceptable and to even make a sacrifice of staying next year even if we fail to make the CL then over time i will forgive him (time is a great healer). We all make mistakes in life and yes Suarez has made plenty but if he show a genuine attitude towards changing and all of the above i mention then imo he should be forgiven. Never going to happen but you never know with Luis! :-)

  85. looks like a good player, full of tricks. We are trying to sign flair in most positions so im happy.

On another note reading the quotes from Suarez today suggests he pulled a Benteke. Looks like he wanted a new bumper contract if reports are to be believed. Now with the departure of Downing Suarez may pick up his chunk of the salary budget.

B) non of the european "elite" wan't him(there is arsenal...nah, he said "elite" did he not?) C) renew contract which states(pere guardiola take note) IF liverpool FAIL to QUALIFY for EUROPEAN CUP and a "elite" club who ARE QUALIFIED for EUROPE do come in, he can then move on. i know which one i choose.

We qualify for CL and he stays. Or we don't, and he has a cast iron get out clause, and we get to set the fee at £60m or more.
Neither side looks too bad. Neither looks brilliant. But this situation will never happen again

  99. It's a bit rich you complaining that you're feeling patronised by such an innocuous comment when you label people with all sorts of names in your reply, hinting, but never quite stating, that opposing views come from gullible, blinkered ,enabling etc etc fans..
Maybe we should cut you some slack though, you're clearly going to be upset if these reports turn out to be true

    ReplyDelete
  100. totally agree m8 i do not believe anything that the club or players say anymore

    ReplyDelete
  101. "That's why our fan base goes beyond the borders of LIVERPOOL"
So do other clubs. Every team can claim they are a family club in their eyes.
Liverpool is a business like all other clubs. This whole family talk is naive...IMO

    ReplyDelete
  102. I was originally dismayed by this talk of a new contract. But thinking about it, it's probably the only way out of this mess that both sides would agree to,
Real are unlikely to come in for him, Arsenal have pretty much been ruled out as they won't pay his worth, and the clause in question still exists so Suarez won't be happy for the status quo.
Best guess is Suarez to stay for a year, the go next summer for around £60-65m.
LFC make their stand. Suarez must score well to get his move. Player power reduced (not gone, but lessened)
    End of Mexican standoff.
By the way, staying because of the fans? Don't make me laugh. We just want your goals for a year, you'll never be looked at the same as before.

  105. Every club claims the same thing, Liverpool is no different. Many clubs stablished themselves as a family based business, it's just a cliche to make the club be more in touch with the fans.
If Liverpool were "family based business" then I am sure they would have treated those still living around the Anfield area with more dignity and respect instead of making pitiful offer for their homes.
And trust me, I know my history.
