'The time has come' - LFC close to signing €14m star hailed as the 'best in La Liga'.

Earlier this week, Spanish newspapers claimed that Liverpool are in negotiations with Granada over the the purchase of coveted left-back Guilherme Siqueira. The Brazilian recently confirmed that he wants to leave Spain this summer, and new reports suggest the Reds are very close to completing the transfer.

According to Spanish newspaper AS today:

"Granada are expecting to formal offer from Liverpool for Guilherme Siqueira.

"The Premier League club are keen on signing the left-back, telling Granada that they are "very interested" in the player.

"The Granada president placed a 14 million-euro price tag on the player, whose release clause is 25 million euros"

When asked about the Reds' interest during an interview last Sunday, Siqueira admitted the 'time had come' for him to move on, but - unfortunately for Liverpool - he seems to favour staying in Spain. He told Brazilian newspaper Daily Catarini:

"The goal is this [to move]. The time has come. I have a price but it does not depend only on me. I hope any deal is achieved as quickly as possible. I have preference for Spain, but today English football is so advanced".

Granada boss Lucas Alcaraz certainly thinks highly of Siqueira, and in May, he enthusiastically told reporters:

"For us, Siqueira is very important. For me, he’s the best left-back there is in La Liga. It makes him even better having Brayan for competition, who is a great player and a great professional.”

Brendan Rodgers is on the lookout for another full-back, and in recent weeks, Liverpool have been linked with possible moves Ryan Bertrand, Lorenzo Melgarejo and Aly Cissokho.

Is left-back a priority position, though? Arguably, yes.

* Enrique is the only experienced, natural left-back at Anfield.
* Glen Johnson can play there, but he's not a dedicated left-back.
* Jack Robinson is now out on loan, so there's even less competition.
* No one wants to see Stewart Downing deployed there again.

  1. I don't know a lot about him. But we do need some cover for LB. So he sounds like he could be a good choice. 14 million sounds a bit steep, but I don't think they would get that for him. Seeing as he wants to leave I would say start at around 8 mil, and see what happens.

  2. Lets hope we land the one of the many often rumored guys. he would be a real plus. Then on to Cissoko and Papadopoulis. Then cut Skrtel and keep Kelly and we are good back there.....

  6. Cissoko has many defensive errors, concentration misstakes etc..

I think it depends on skrtel going because at the moment we have, Toure, agger, wisdom, skrtel,Kelly, coates, if we sell/loan skrtel to Napoli or zenit then we can bring someone in... :)

  9. Supposed to be decent, if he's as good as or better than Glen on the right then could be a good signing, remember Glen set us back £18m.

  11. u want 3 left backs(cissoko/enrique/siqueira)?????

  12. siqueira wil move to real madrid to replace coentrao
cissoko was a good prospect during his porto/lyon days and hasnt been able to step up his game as expected.....if he moves to liverpool and if he can really reach the level that was expected of him...he will be a gr8 buy at d rumoured price and if he doesnt do as expected....we wont buy him

so al in al the move for cissoko makes a lot of sense

  13. He has rarely used Kelly and skrtl could leave

  14. Or for Coentrao?

  15. I'm not saying cissoko would be a bad choice, for the price he's definitely worth it, and would be a decent competition for Enrique, but not an upgrade.

Kinda is, because we only have one LB at the club at the moment.

  18. Everton are looking at him to replace Baines, must be a good option because Real don't chase after you for no reason.

  19. REINA going out on loan made sense because he's waiting for a move back to BARCA and he's on 100k+ a week. But if NAPOLI want MS we should be pressuring them to buy. They still have money left over from the sale of CAVANI.

  20. Left back does need strengthening, not a clue if this is the guy to do it though.

  21. We need a better LB than Enrique to start games.

  22. I like this guy a lot. But i have always thought he would be going to a CL club. I hope we can get this one over the line. 14 m is a lot of money, but it will be well spent imo as i can see him making this position his own for years to come.Get it done.

True point, I've heard skrtel agent is in talks with zenit over a switch..

  24. £12m looks to be really high for a LB, specially when MU offered £12m for someone like Baines. But then, at just 27, his best 4-5 years to come & he must be at a much lower salary; which can net-off £4-5m over the period.

Considering the amount of noise, I am sure someone at LB 'll be purchased, wish he 'll be better than Enrique. I heard Jetro Williams could be available for as low as £4-5m. Possibility?

  25. Definitely doesnt deserve 14 mil, or else Suarez is worth 75mil

  26. I would expect a bit more flexibility; center at times as needed if injuries get in the way. Besides, with all the rumors that have not held water, my preference is to get Sigueira if we can or then Cissoko. I like Papa to replace Skrtel. Is it me, or has he become a bag of bones in the last 18 months?

  27. Good article JK, but again you're looking at the negative, he as you quoted stated "my preference is spain but england is so advanced". This can be construed to the prospect he is infact looking towards an English team if no (decent) Spanish team puts in a bid. If we were to quote him this "English teams are so advance" we would be on the a complete opposite end of the spectrum Sir!.

  28. And your priority is?

  29. He's not interested in coming to Liverpool. I can bet any person he will not be a Liverpool player this season so stop wasting our time like with benefica left back when it's so obvious he won't get a work permit

a Fowler again please ,he was the master

  32. So on the day Spurs sign Capoue, another player we could have done with, and Shaktar buy Bernard, we are linked to a left back who has had one good season at the age of 27. At way too much money at that..

    ReplyDelete
  33. same as it was at the begging of the window centerback, defensive midfielder ,and an out and out striker

    ReplyDelete
  34. Johnson is for sale. as are all the high earning, non value for money players.
this guy wont be back up for enrique if he comes, he'll be first choice.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Real Madrid are supposed to be in for him. If not Real Madrid, I imagine he'll go where the wages and opportunity are strongest, so Liverpool would be in with a shout.
