'I'm very excited' - Hamann urges LFC to sign 'great' €35m attacker. Dare to dream...?

Liverpool legend Dietmar Hamann has revealed his excitement over his old club's alleged interest in Anzhi Makhachkala attacker Willian Borges da Silva.

According to The Telegraph today:

"Brendan Rodgers is ready to capitalise on Anzhi Makhachkala's financial problems to make a £30m bid for Anzhi Makhachkala midfielder Willian.

"Rodgers has made an enquiry to the Russian club ahead of a possible bid before the transfer window closes".

Responding to the news, Hamann - an integral part of Liverpool's success under Rafa Benitez and Gerard Houllier - enthused:

"Liverpool interested in Willian? If true, I'm very excited. If Willian joins [LFC] I think a top 4 finish is realistic"

Reports in Russia this week suggest that Anzhi's billionaire owner Suleiman Kerimov is planning to slash the club's budget and sell off its array of expensive stars. Anzhi president Konstantin Remchukov confirmed these changes via his twitter account this week. He explained:

"Anzhi will undergo a shake-up. Many of our expensive stars will leave, while the club's budget will be decreased to $50-$70 million a year. We failed to clinch rapid success. Now Anzhi will develop its academy."

The signing of Willian - recently described by Chelsea's David Luiz as a 'great player' - would certainly satisfy the fans' ceaseless demand for a 'marquee' transfer, but the likelihood of Liverpool spending £30m-plus on one player seems slim.

Transfer aside, it's interesting to note Anzhi's change of focus. The Russian giants now plan to take the exact same approach as Liverpool: prudent transfer investment, with a major emphasis on developing young players through the academy.

Anzhi's woes are just the latest example of what happens when a club spends ridiculous money on transfers and fails to progress as a result. Indeed, this is exactly what happened with Liverpool during the Dalglish era, with the catastrophic mismanagement of transfer funds leading inexorably to a more cautious financial approach.

Brendan Rodgers is now pushing through that change, and Anzhi's problems just underline once again that FSG are taking the right approach at Liverpool.

As for LFC's chances of signing Willian - I can't see it. Why would the Brazilian come to Anfield when Champions League clubs will probably be queuing up to sign him? Additionally, when asked about his future in January, Willian name-checked Spurs and Chelsea. He told reporters:

"Big clubs like Chelsea and Tottenham were interested in securing my services. Chelsea are a great club and won the Champions League. Tottenham are a big club as well, and have a good coach in Andre Villas-Boas. Every player dreams of playing in the Premier League"

Clearly, the key factors for Willian are Champions League, and the reputation the manager, and at present, Liverpool can't really compete on either level. Having said that, as is depressingly the norm these days, money talks, and if Liverpool offer Willian enough money, that will 'compensate' for the lack of Champions League football.

  2. ok ok i know its impossible and I have been a bit down myself the last few weeks but do you know what i think if we put in a good bid why not ? I think the only positive about this saga we have been dragged through is that JH has gotten involved and has his blood up. He might well be thinking I'll show Arsenal how its done and just hit the asking price, anyway kick off in two days and just had some bargains in my fantasy team so actually getting excited again. It cant all be bad when you have couthino in your team,

Willian said this about liverpool before, plus anything is possible.

  4. I would love to see this happen and I would love for JW to take charge of the deal, if the club wants the deal to come to fruition we best not let Ian Ayre go over to the Ukraine to negotiate.

His opening gambit will be "we will take him on loan for a year and then when that period is complete we will give you a fiver". Then he will look utterly astonished when we lose him to Spurs and will blame the lack of European football.

  5. Not sure why this guy is worth more than Mhkitaryan?

    ReplyDelete
  6. When the Mkhitaryan rumours were about and Fernandinho was going for big bucks, I did say that Willian was the standout player from that team any time I saw them play.

With that being said, I couldn't see the point in signing a ~£30m midfielder just for the outside chance at a CL spot. In the unlikely event that the club did fork out the required money to bring Willian in, they'd better pull out the stops to plug the other hole at the back at the same time and start aiming a bit higher!

  7. Hang on, you say that he seems to be more interested in the Champions League & Manager's status, yet Villas Boas is a very young manager (whilst obviously very promising but still young) and Tottenham aren't in the Champions League?

To me in the quote you give he seems to be talking up both Chelsea & Spurs as big clubs, and therefore being attractive, and we're historically a bigger club by far than both.

The other factor is that being this late in the window and with this being a bit of a freak one too with all the major clubs getting their business done early and those that haven't seem to have already settled on their major targets (Arsenal, Madrid), there aren't many top clubs still looking for players especially in Willian's position.

I personally can't see too much competition for us for the guy, if we are genuinely interested, have the budget, which it sounds like we do (20 odd mil bid for Costa and that was before another 6 has come in for Downing), and Anhzi do want to sell.

  8. Because he's a better player.

If Anzhi really are having a firesale, it's doubtful that they'll get the same money that they spent on him anyway.

  9. Willian name-checks AVB in his comment, and also specifically mentioned the Champions League. If he mentions AVB by name, it means he rates him highly. How many LFC transfer targets namecheck Rodgers?

    ReplyDelete
  10. Pipe dream. Are they interested? Doubt it. They probably inquired during suarez's last rant to the rags. People are deluded if they think the current squad will challenge the top 4.

    ReplyDelete
  11. AVB is a good manager but i cant see spurs having the cash unless they sell bale so, and its a big so, if we are quick about it maybe we can get it done before the other clubs get the chance

    ReplyDelete
  12. I do want LFC to sign him but I highly doubt that LFC would sign him. Better than Henrikh Mkhitaryan it seems. I seriously doubt we're even going to pose a threat for top 6 unless miraculously the half of the squad plays like Suarez or Gerrard. Look at Tottenham and the players they're being linked to now, all is being done so as to keep Bale at the White Hart Lane. Wish the management took the same interest to keep Suarez by signing new top class players rather than offering him new contract.

Make or break season for Rodgers. Being delusional and hoping we'd be a serious threat to top 4 is the best bet looking at the current state of affairs that are at LFC. Really worried about this season.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Spuds are looking to bring in Eriksen, Lamela and Willian. At least the reports say they're making an effort to keep Bale for themselves. What are we doing? Just inquiring for players mediocre players and then purchasing the unknowns.

  14. Mr. Point Of View3:28 pm, August 15, 2013

If he want to shine and get more brighter chances to national squad, LFC is a good choice. Bcoz we needed him. But mostly player choose to join fame club ($ may not relevent) even they rotten at bench...Different ppl different perception, mayb 1 day he proud enough to tell his grandson i've been at hero fighting for LFC instead im winning medal at side pitch....

    ReplyDelete
  15. That maybe so but he also references both Chelsea & Spurs as being 'big' clubs first in the statement, which would imply that being a big club is just as important. No matter what state we may be in at the moment, Liverpool is still a massive club, and I don't think anyone would dispute that, so surely that would also put us in the hunt.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I seriously doubt there are many players left in modern football who want to do that. I wish LFC had a few more Gerrards and Carraghers.

    ReplyDelete
  17. what is your source?

    ReplyDelete
  18. I agree that LFC is a big club, but judging by this summer's transfer business, it doesn't appear that many top players agree with that assessment.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I agree 100%. You've got to say the current squad hasn't improved, as of the window dealings so far.

    ReplyDelete

of coz foreign player is rare....
local academy? naah player like stevie g carra giggs scholes n etc wont happening again..
even they are rival but i salute their loyalty

    ReplyDelete
  21. Know what you mean but to me the way this transfer window's gone with top players going to places like monaco, PSG, etc, seems more so that fewer players actually care about playing for a big club anymore and tend to be going more for the money.

Basically why I latched onto the 'big' part of the quote, and thought maybe this guy's different. Probably not, but hey, trying to be positive here!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Yes, agree with you 100% but I am an optimistically delusional person so I'll hope we'll get a few players like Gerrard & Carra.

    ReplyDelete
  23. You could be right. Maybe its Rodgers, that's the put off? Something isn't right. Id still go for, the MD at the club, the not being prepared to spend money + being obsessed with cuts. Oh and the not being in the CL, bit as well.

  25. If LFC don't make a big signing it will be signalling that they have given up hope on top 4 - as it would show that they wouldn't see a return on investment for making such a signing.
I think they will make a big signing though, their resolve on Suarez is showing intent, but the other key factor is bolstering. I'm not sure if their approach is the best in not getting the business done early - maybe they were waiting to see if they would replace Luis. They have been talking the talk, now to walk the walk. Think it will be done, because it makes business sense.
Players have been sold, wages have been cleared, there is room to spend without putting the club in a precarious position. Wether it's this guy or not, can't see the club not buying a 25m+ player, as not doing so would send out the wrong message.
City, Chelsea, and Tottenham all have very strong squads - judged purely on strength Liverpool need to add a game changer to fight for 4th or better with Arsenal and Man U.
The writing's on the wall they have no choice but to sign.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Proper sentences? Fuck off. What kind of knobheads moderate this site? Prescriptivist cunts.

    ReplyDelete
  27. If he is, then I seriously hope we get him, cos Mhki was the ideal player and we lost him to CL football
Either way, now Rodgers' '3 or 4' players of last week is now '1 or 2' .... worrying.

    ReplyDelete
  28. And at this rate its going to be 0 or 1 :/

    ReplyDelete
  29. Yep, im beginning to feel that we are going to be dissapointed with this transfer window, the Club does not look in good shape & whats more i think this season could actually be a lot worse than the last.

Too many player issue's that have once again not been resolved, too many weak links in the side with not enough competition in the squad......basically a repeat of last season with a few new young players brought in, i think as it stands we are most definitely going to struggle to be competitive.

The next couple of weeks will define how well we will do this season, i for one am beginning to suspect that we will be treated to another season of underperforming players letting us down just when we start to make any headway or build any momentum.....just like last season, that is unless we off load a few players & bring in decent replacements, which is looking more & more unlikely.

Yes, we are not in CL (neither are Spurs) & our manager is not a big name manager yet......& we have players like Suarez doing their upmost to wreck our profile by shamelessly going to the press crying about the manager who double crossed him......its not hard to see why some players might be put off when they consider a move to our Club.....

The Club is in turmoil & outsiders can see that......i blame certain players more than i even blame Kenny/Comolli, because they have played their continued part in our downfall..... whilst being on massive wages...i.e GLEN JOHNSON & his 100K a week for having no end product to his game for the last few seasons.....Reina Skrtel Agger...ENRIQUE......

Absolute joke of a Club, happy to keep rewarding players who underperform like that, no wonder we are where we are....& can't seem to attract better quality players, because "we" are content to keep the present bunch bar Downing even though they cost us dearly last season???

I think its high time that the fanbase also took a good long hard look at themselves in all this, remember that "we" are also responsible for the Club's downfall for accepting defending.... & putting up with it, whilst blaming yet another manager instead of the players.....

    ReplyDelete
  30. Well, he is a different kind of player to Mkhitaryan. He is much faster than Suarez with equally as good dribbling technique and movement. His passing and finishing might need a bit of polish, and he needs to press and track-back better. But with his natural talent alone and a bit of Rodgers' education his ceiling is absolutely enormous!

    ReplyDelete
  31. B R HAS PROMISED 2 BIG SIGNINGS - Don't think there is a chance of William but surely BORINI has to go - BR left him out of the friendlies because he knows he is hopeless

    ReplyDelete
  32. Oh, and his afro... It's LEGENDARY! Worth 30M alone.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Everyone seems to be missing a few important points. If he comes and The LB comes that will be 4 brazilians here which would be appealing to him in the first place. Also we play a style which would suit him perfectly. Im pretty sure he could be convinced that him and coutinho would compliment each other so well and with the world cup coming up both these players will be wanting to make their chances as good as possible.

    It could happen ;)

    ReplyDelete
  34. The odds on Suarez leaving are still VERY HIGH

    ReplyDelete
  35. agree m8 not imo either

    ReplyDelete
  36. or just a straight forward zero

    ReplyDelete
  37. It was him who played at HM's place before he left Shakhtar and is really a better player though. You might consider HM good for his goals but its because he's more like Lampard who knows when to get inside the box. I would pay for him over HM.

    ReplyDelete
  38. 30 million for for someone whos passing and finishing need work on wow we are desperate, and this is what this stinks of desperation

    ReplyDelete
  39. FSG put Brendan in charge of the club so they should have the stomach to back him to the hilt to achieve the top four spot they expect of him, they should go out on a limb to bring Willian to Anfield to show the fans and players they have the ambition and drive to push the club forward. Willian would be ideal for the way LFC play. I can also think of few reasons why he should join LFC, he would practically be guaranteed a first team spot, he would be adored by the fans, he would heighten his chances of playing in the world cup for Brazil, he would be joining up with Lucas a friend of his and playing along side Coutinho and maybe Siqueira so language barriers will be easier to overcome. we have a strong history and tradition any true player would be proud to be a part of and build upon, and regarding Champions League football it could only be a season away if he joins and the board give Brendan the backing. I do not see why we couldn't get Willian if FSG are intent on taking the club forward but they need to cough up the cash. YNWA

  41. According to who exactly...?

    ReplyDelete
  42. and i would not but each to there own ,i would rather have the 2 lads from ajax, for less money

    ReplyDelete
  43. I guess he's making that argument looking at the betting sites.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I agree with you but if we sign him and Sakho. Would you still want Toby and Eriksen from Ajax?

    ReplyDelete
  45. he would be practically guaranteed a first team spot surely you jest

    ReplyDelete
  46. Probably about the same as knew Jurgen Klopp 3 years ago

    ReplyDelete
  47. Ah yes, the bookies no doubt will be raking it in on this one.

    ReplyDelete
  48. i would rather have the 2 lads from ajax and with the money saved get someone else in we need every player we can get ,lets forget marque signings and just hope we get some decent 1st teamers

    ReplyDelete
  49. Call me whatever you want but do you seriously think that Rodgers is Klopp in the making, eh?

    ReplyDelete
  50. He'd go straight in no two ways about depending on fitness that's what I meant by practically, now your just being sarcastic!

    ReplyDelete
  51. but hes no klopp and looking at him in 3 years time he will be no closer he talks a good game(like today )but thats all i have seen talk

    ReplyDelete
  52. I don't think LFC is interested in them or else they'd have at least tabled a serious bid just like the other targets.

    ReplyDelete
  53. ah good you got the sarcastic part

    ReplyDelete
  54. Better than Fallaini's?

    ReplyDelete
  55. Yep! Sure did

    ReplyDelete
  56. what other targets what serious bids ,i do not believe we have tryed to sign any of the marque signings we have been linked to (well not to hard anyway)

    ReplyDelete
  57. If Borini goes then surely that must add up to more players leaving than we actually brought in so far. We are looking to get into the top 4 yes? With Suarez out for 6 matches we might get into Europe in the fair play rule. BR would want to pull a lot of rabbits out of the bag as I think he'll feel the heat if we don't get off to a good start and Man u 3rd game of the season.

    ReplyDelete
  58. i think fsg are done with liv'pool first those rumors about them selling the club ......me thinks they are not spending money because they dont see the point of blowing hughe amountrs of money when they wanna sell

    ReplyDelete
  59. The way this transfer market is panning out so far he won't be here in 3 months!

    ReplyDelete
  60. We did enter negotiations with Cissokho, Costa and a few more it seems.

    ReplyDelete
  61. lets hope so and if they do please no more yanks

    ReplyDelete
  62. dont think there will be....... the muricans losing money everywhere mostly will be arabs the dino juice pumping them and dont think any russion oligarch will come either they want tax benefits that france can offer

    ReplyDelete
  63. imo rodgers as 9 games apart from man u (and even them )all winnable if we are not very near the top after 9 games we will be nowhere near the top at the end of the season

    ReplyDelete
  64. Other than Man City who else has bought anyone of note yet to choose to take a positive quote from Didi to run down the manager and the club. You always looking for the negative.....be positive for a change

    ReplyDelete
  65. maybe so mate now they've got planning permission to extend Anfield, and keeping hold of Suarez as collateral could be a bargaining chip for any potential new owners. Footballs changed so much over the years clubs mean very little to the owners it's just a business to them now.

    ReplyDelete
  66. he can only spend what fsg lets him ,they will not get rid as long as hes happy to take the flack for them ,no doubt come the end of the window ,rodgers will come out and thank fsg for there unswereving support

    ReplyDelete
  67. its too much to ask for sentimental owners now days :'(

    ReplyDelete
  68. spurs have signed decent players so have swansea.infact most clubs have been active

    ReplyDelete
  69. hmmm not so sure he doesn't seem to come across as that type to let somebody walk all over him, I just get the impression he's trying to be to clever and it will backfire on him.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Bit off topic but I was just wondering, and hoping someone can fill me in, but how are we looking as a squad from a net in and net out in terms of positions. Have we added the depth we needed (minus the obvious at LB and DM) or are we the same or less than last year? And does anyone have a accurate net spend for this window? (or a close estimate) Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  71. no doubt he will be signing lfc shirts and hiding in a hotel in toxteth very soon

    ReplyDelete
  72. You are kidding me right?
Last season we started in the relegation zone and fought our way to 7th, with form warranting a top 3 spot since January. How is that a club in 'continued downfall'? We've kept 5 clean sheets, won all but one of our pre-season games, scored 20 goals and conceded only 3. Remind me, why are we a shambles again?

And how exactly did Downing cost us dearly last season? Our season was caused by a lack of squad depth and adapting to a new system. Downing isn't a 20M winger sure but he tried his guts out and ended up played his role as a backtracking winger pretty well. He may not be a top 4 standard player, but he is still premier league standard. If his wages weren't so high he'd still be in the squad as cover.

May I remind you the transfer window isn't closed and we haven't spent a cent in our kitty yet due to player sales. Who's to say there won't be any big signings? So your solution to get us competing again is to cut Enrique, Reina, Agger, Skrtel and Johnson in one go? Who are we going to replace them with? We need elements of the old structure to fall back onto, I mean what if the new combination doesn't work out? We've already replaced, or are actively looking to replace three of the five... what more do you want?

The season hasn't even started and already we are blaming the players... With the exception of the trouble that buck-toothed twat got us into I see a lot of reasons for optimism. If you are a supporter, support please.

    ReplyDelete
  73. I know mate ya right

    ReplyDelete
  74. Somebody else might fill you in on the net spend thingy but as far as I'm aware more players have left the club than we have actually brought in. So if you take that and the wages saved into account we must have a decent profit.

    ReplyDelete
  75. hes one of the smuggest men i have ever seen ,he thinks hes shanks ,but he knows he got the job because he was a yes man ,why else would we have hired a manager with 40 odd top flight games ,to his manergerial credit ,and please no tikka takka ,or he has a plan posts i am getting very board of them now results are what counts and this season he has no excuses

    ReplyDelete
  76. and we are in profit re net spend not that ,it matters net spend dose not mean nothing ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  77. Yeah the problem is that we have floundered in the winnable games in the past.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Liverpool have signed good players too. You're getting into ceaseless negativity territory again. Practically every post you've made today is a dig at Rodgers.

    ReplyDelete
  79. whos to say there is a kitty

    ReplyDelete
  80. His passing is very good, it's just with his potential he can be a Ronaldinho like freak. His finishing is probably a slight weakness, but is still a hell of a lot better than most of our squad. Have you seen he game when he sunk Chelsea in the Champion's league with his two fantastic finishes?

  82. itis an opinion ,you say we ahve signed good players i say we have wasted money,we could have kept pepe ,got toure for free, not bothered with the other signing and got the two lads from ajax for not much more than we have spent ,i know which way i would be happier with

    ReplyDelete
  83. That was my thinking. I like the players we have bought and think they are an upgrade to those we let go (in relation to BRs tactics and gameplan). But if the lowball estimation of our budget at 20mil is true, I just wonder what BR is thinking as his next move. Perhaps that's why he tabled the entire sum on Costa and thinks he's gotta use it all now or something, idk. I just think we need a CB and DM to solidify the team and a CM to drive us to the Champions League spot. Still got 15 days to figure it out, just hope BR doesn't panic buy because, imo, Costa is not the solution especially since LS is staying.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Jamie, I know you've reported all these stories and given some opinion but I have a question for you. Yes, we’ve signed good players that work in BRs system and yes we've offloaded a load of baggage. We've basically come out on a positive net spend (if reports are accurate). The low-ball speculation of our budget was 20mil at the beginning of the transfer. BR looks to be trying to use it up as quick as he can judging by his bid for costa (a bad/panic move imo especially with LS staying). If you were BR, what moves would you make with 15 days left in the window from all the people we've been linked to - assuming you had 20mil and probably a little more on top to push through a transfer or two. Thanks in advance :)

    ReplyDelete
  85. You know what Carr, despite what people say, you're always good for a chuckle :)

    ReplyDelete
  86. But I'll ask you the same question I asked Jamie….assuming that we have not spent anything this window if reports are accuarate and actually added to our transfer budget who would you buy in the next 15days? - also assuming that you'd be given a little extra to push through one or two signings

    ReplyDelete
  87. there is a kitty jase his names mr muddles they use him to keep the mice down

    ReplyDelete
  88. maybe buck or roy but thats it

    ReplyDelete
  89. this summer jamie we have signed potentially good players...alberto and aspas may fold like a cheap suit against spurs

    ReplyDelete
  90. with suarez out of sorts its weaker....on top of that sturridge and agger are far from convincing on the fitness front....one week skirtal is going one week hes staying but hes injured anyway.....i hope are crocks are fit because stoke will put it about

    ReplyDelete
  91. It will take an astronomical amount of money to cover this player's transfer fees and salary. It does not make much sense here as we are not in the Champions League. Also it will disrupt the new system of developing and pushing of young players. Be honest and don't crap ourselves, how many of us fans have heard of this player's name before he was linked to LFC?

FSG did take the same approach as Suleiman Kerimov, too bad the money was blown away ridiculously by KD and Comolli. At least Suleiman Kerimov bought established players with crazy amount of money. We are much more pathetic as we thrown away huge chunk of money because some champions bought players based on nationality and not ability.

    ReplyDelete
  92. this guy seems good ...but hes out of our price bracket ..we will make all the right noises without any real ambition to sign him

    ReplyDelete
  93. if we dont beat stoke and villa we will struggle to finish in the top half

    ReplyDelete
  94. avb has a certain amount of charisma...rogers and ayre have none

    ReplyDelete
  95. cissokho isnt a marquee signing m8 hes a squad player for an average team...i dont think we where ever serious about costa unless he costa nothing

    ReplyDelete
  96. there is no use pretending everything's fine in the greenhouse if your tomatoes wont grow...we are having trouble attracting talent irrelevant of what we offer

    ReplyDelete
  97. i dont want him for 30m unless we sell 30m worth of talent first ...im taking it on myself to look out for fsgs money like everyone else seems to

    ReplyDelete
  98. Oh yeah! Bought AC for 35 mil pounds sold for 15 mil pounds, bought Stewart Downing 20 mil pounds sold for 5 mil pounds. Net profit of how many mil pounds? Sorry boss I can't get it right on my calculator.

  100. Jeez, calm down fella, if you read the post you will see that i say the next few weeks could/will define our season......i've not completely given up hope of us strengthening the squad.....

The rest is just my 2 cents on why i think we are in a decline which you have to admit is true.....

Believe it or not i am right behind BR & have been calling for others too wrapped in defending Suarez to get behind the manager etc, for me its always been about the team & not the individual....

All i have done is single out a few players who havn't been cutting it, Downing did play better last season but most LFC fans wanted him gone a long time ago, couldn't wait for him to be shown the door, overall i don't think he was consistent enough myself, but i highlighted other players before him who i thought were most definitely underperforming who are still at the Club.....

Thats the main reason for my frustration re this window.....

Have you added the agents fees and money paid to Toure for signing on fee? Oh guess not :)

And how do you know their isn't a kitty?:-) because negative as always.

  103. they class john Henry goggling a players name as trying to sign him

    ReplyDelete
  104. liverpool4life5655:42 pm, August 15, 2013

They've made a impact more than Carroll, downing did when they signed, and they signed for 55 million, these to players signed for 14 million, or around that.

    ReplyDelete
  105. It's looking like Luis Suarez is our marquee signing tbh. The more this window comes to a close the more disheartened i'm becoming. I think the players we have brought in so for imo are improvements(doubt Luis Alberto will get much of a chance this season) to the team. We will probably get one more player (LB) and i truly believe that will be it. There's not a chance we will buy anyone for £30 million even if Messi was available for that price.. joke ;-) Rodgers is doing the best he can with what he is given. We are like the tory party and Rodgers is our David Cameron. Even tho i think DC is a **** Rodgers certainly isn't imo he has fallen in love with the club and is putting his heart and soul into doing the best he can for us fans. I've said before FSG need to back him! Hope they prove me wrong and do back him but doesn't look likely. Only if Rodgers got the money KD did... It be better than the pile of shite KD bought. Thats for sure! To end on positive note there is over two weeks left till the window shuts.... hope i'm just having an off day today

    ReplyDelete
  106. liverpool4life5655:44 pm, August 15, 2013

How do you know his out of our price range? Was their when they were sorting out the budgets? :)

    ReplyDelete
  107. they haven't played a competitive game m8 ....so how do you know what impact they will have ..i hope they turn out to be as good as messi but until they have performed in the prem its pure superposition on your part

    ReplyDelete
  108. not at all just stating facts

    ReplyDelete
  109. IMO hes out of fsg price range, wage bracket ,buy to let ,or whatever bracket

    ReplyDelete
  110. liverpool4life5655:47 pm, August 15, 2013

You don't know that. Your making things up so you can slate FSG as always. :)

    ReplyDelete
  111. me sayng theres an elephant singing at the botton of my garden is me making things up...me saying i think willian is out of fsgs price bracket is an opinion

    ReplyDelete
  112. 'Be honest and don't crap ourselves, how many of us fans have heard of this player's name before he was linked to LFC'

He hardly plays for a side that is in the wilderness. They've been a handy side in Europa League for a good few years now and to a lesser extent, in CL. I think he was there when they won it (or was it UEFA Cup then?). So Shakhtar are a reasonably well known side on the European competitions scene, and he is one of their better players. So I think anyone that has watched European competitions, would know of him to an extent.

'Also it will disrupt the new system of developing and pushing of young players.'

Quite a few of the young players that were in and around the squad last have either been sold, loaned out or being linked to exits. One or two first XI players will hardly disrupt this so-called new system at the stage it is in now. If they were better developed at this stage, than yes, it would be a worry. But Sterling, Suso, Pacheco, etc, are some way off of being ready for the first XI, and if anything, they shouldn't even be cover at this stage. The defensive young prospects aren't as far off maybe but the attacking young players are. So I don't see signing Willian or someone else of first XI quality in attacking positions as being prohibitive and disruptive in that regard, as those young attacking players are way off.

  113. totally agree m8 we have the easiest start ever ,and if we do not take adavantage of it the season will be over by xmas again

    ReplyDelete
  114. liverpool4life5655:52 pm, August 15, 2013

Yes your saying that so in your mind your happy so you can slate them more.

    ReplyDelete
  115. someone as to be ,all this take about missing out on marquee signings gives me a headache

    ReplyDelete
  116. realisticly eriksen looks the best we can get

    ReplyDelete
  117. our start is ideal, teams with new managers on hopefully dry pitches in warm weather if we dont win well against villa and stoke its time for a re think..

    ReplyDelete
  118. agree m8 i think we should sell all the players next season and use the lads we have signed as potential, and give fsg a proper brucey bonus

    ReplyDelete
  119. listen m8 dont get to hung up on my mental state its one mans opinion in an ocean of fish

    ReplyDelete
  120. we were talking about this window ,why do you not bring every player we have ever lost money on up,we lost money on barnes as well you know

    ReplyDelete
  121. i thought he was a free ,

    ReplyDelete
  122. liverpool4life5655:57 pm, August 15, 2013

    If you say so :)

    ReplyDelete
  123. liverpool4life5655:58 pm, August 15, 2013

No, they get a signing on fee.

    ReplyDelete
  124. i don't want any flops on my head so ill do what every one else does and edge with the don't buy him hes to dear brigade that way when they flop i can come on and say told you so

    ReplyDelete
  125. you mean a back hander loverly .if thats the case we should have just bought someone a wee bit younger

    ReplyDelete
  126. liverpool4life5656:00 pm, August 15, 2013

    We will see :)

    ReplyDelete
  127. i will be doing a few i told you so,s at the end of this transfer window;-)

    ReplyDelete
  128. liverpool4life5656:02 pm, August 15, 2013

We wanted to replace Carra, Toure is nearest to him,and it would settle our back four, even pundits in pre season have been impressed by him :-)

    ReplyDelete
  129. yes agree we will have to use plan b ,oops we do not have a plan b

    ReplyDelete
  130. well we have borini but thats not even a plan

    ReplyDelete
  131. leave sterling out of it hahah

    ReplyDelete
  132. He played and won the last of UEFA Cup, I think so. So this is a player that is worth 30 mil pounds, according to you? I'm not saying this player is a complete unknown but rated at 30 mil pounds and out of a sudden many fans starting screaming for him, so you think these fans here are his followers? Any foreign player that comes to EPL, regardless of CV and price tag, is a gamble. At the present financial state of LFC, if, assuming he is not as successful as expected and given his price tag, do you think the manager will be under pressure to continue playing him? Will that not be disruptive?

Of course this is purely my opinion, I rate this season as a clearing-out season. I won't be terribly disappointed if we miss out on top 4 in the league. More importantly is to get rid of dead weights in the team and slash wage bills to get prepared for bigger challenge in the near future.

    ReplyDelete
  133. i am not a pundit and hes been ok nothing flash lets see what he dose against stoke the few times hes been put under real pressure hes looked suspect

    ReplyDelete
  134. borini cannot even get a game in the preseason last few games ,must be conserving is energy for the hard season ahead, someones got to put all the seats up after the games

    ReplyDelete
  135. we lost a similar amount on the aquaman and keane deals perhaps ill start dragging that into every debate...it gets a bit boring after a 1000 times

    ReplyDelete
  136. no comment i want my lawyer

    ReplyDelete
  137. liverpool4life5656:12 pm, August 15, 2013

When has Toure been under pressure? Which game?

    ReplyDelete
  138. we will lose a few quid on borini ,i have already started bringing that into the debate;-)

    ReplyDelete
  139. not the suarez one though ...preferably one than can read

    ReplyDelete
  140. i thought he looked a bit shaky against celtic and the aussie side, but then again that was our entire defence so probably a bit harsh signaling him out

    ReplyDelete
  141. whos that sven...because the way we are shaping the closest we will get to a scandanavian is buying a bed from ikea on warrinton retail

    ReplyDelete
  142. liverpool4life5656:16 pm, August 15, 2013

When agger and Toure have played together they've done well. Over time that partnership will improve even more

    ReplyDelete
  143. okay that as well

    ReplyDelete
  144. Sadly have to agree Jamie, our profile has hit the skids since rafa left to be honest

    ReplyDelete
  145. they have not played one competative game yet,and if every player we sign is going to be a world beater do doubt you were saying the same things about kennys signings

    ReplyDelete
  146. Back-Hander Loverly, is that Sterling's street name? It's got a nice ring to it.

    ReplyDelete
  147. liverpool4life5656:24 pm, August 15, 2013

We will see Saturday, also no, when AC signed, I felt sick we spent 35 million, on downing, I was ok we will see what happens, only signing I liked was Bellamy,Suarez, erinque that's it :)

    ReplyDelete
  148. so you do not think henderson as been ok ,fine there is no point posting me again ,i cannot be bothered to reply to anyone who swoons over allen but dose not rate hendo,as imo they no very little about football

    ReplyDelete
  149. hahaha on another note it seems Liverpool are getting an Israeli middle east peace negotiator in to advise on suarez...you cant make this stuff up ...why not go the whole hog and invite kofi annan and the dhali lama into it....john henry asked what are they smoking at arsenal but they must be smoking crack at anfield if this is true

    ReplyDelete
  150. This from the man who constantly knocks the club for not spending for not paying big transfer fees, going in too low and having no ambition.

    ReplyDelete
  151. Maybe they can invite everyone to a talk show like Jerry Spring or Maury Pauvich (is there a UK equivalent??) Probably just as effective - we all know how the Israel Palestine issue was resolved.

    ReplyDelete
  152. liverpool4life5656:51 pm, August 15, 2013

Not for 20 million. As a player yeah I do like him he works his socks off :)

    ReplyDelete
  153. yes buy players but do not panic buy

    ReplyDelete
  154. but allen was worth 15 million ,course he was hendos 3 times better imo so if you think allen was worth the money hendo definetly was

    ReplyDelete
  155. liverpool4life5656:59 pm, August 15, 2013

We only paid 15 million because it was his buy out clause. :) plus Rodgers worked with him before which every manager does goes back to their old club for players :)

    ReplyDelete
  156. thank you you have given me belief , he is asked about both chelsea and lfc and only talks about lfc

    ReplyDelete
  157. it maybe a good signing, it may have huge psychological benefits that a marquee signing normally has - but i doubt very much anything will happen. if we perform poorly maybe then fsg might panic and buy in january.

    ReplyDelete
  158. Imagine players like alderweld, erikson, diame and willain - joining us - i would then believe even top 2 is possible!

    ReplyDelete
  159. liverpool4life5657:05 pm, August 15, 2013

It's okay mate :) plus with Lucas and coutinho and Suarez if he stays he will be able to adapt :)

    ReplyDelete
  160. we still paid 15 million stop making excuses

    ReplyDelete
  161. I am simply disagreeing with your comments of 'Be honest and don't crap ourselves, how many of us fans have heard of this player's name before he was linked to LFC' and 'Also it will disrupt the new system of developing and pushing of young players.'.

'So this is a player that is worth 30 mil pounds, according to you?'

I haven't implied that heavily, let alone said anything of the sort.

I am, or at least, was debating a portions of your post, I wasn't debating your overall point. So I think, with all due respect, you have lost sight of that.

    ReplyDelete
  162. I don't think I anywhere mentioned Cissokho being a marquee signing. :P

    ReplyDelete
  163. our so-called UK equivalent is in the US too these days (I don't say it in the manner that I'm a proud compatriot! ;) ), Jeremy Kyle.

    ReplyDelete
  164. liverpool4life5657:14 pm, August 15, 2013

Because that was his BUY OUT clause. How that making a excuse. Read. Swansea didnt want to sell him. Spurs made a bid which let us make a bid too under BR agreement with Swansea.

    ReplyDelete
  165. liverpool4life5657:15 pm, August 15, 2013

We lost 14 million on aqua. And 6 million on Keane :-) but we lost 15 million on Downing, and 20 on Carroll.

    ReplyDelete
  166. Agree with you 100% Sometimes I just don't post anything here but just read your comments. @CARR71 & @gilstrap you two always make my day on this website.

    ReplyDelete
  167. Haven't heard of him. Not sure it will work though - I read he was berating a dyslexic on his show for being dislexic. This is not compatible with my latest defense of Suarez - that he is in fact dislexic. hehe

    ReplyDelete
  168. Haha ;) I think his show is getting cancelled anyway

    ReplyDelete
  169. You sir obviously don't support LFC because any other club in LFC's situation would do that but not LFC under Rodgers and FSG.

    ReplyDelete
  170. I can't believe people are actually buying into this rubbish. We will not buy Willian. Especially not for 30 plus million quid. We've already missed out on Denisov, Zhirkov and Kokorin to Dinamo Moscow and Shatov to Zenit. What is left there is Boussoufa, Jucilei, Traoré and Willian and none of them will even come near Anfield next season. Well actually they probably will. When Spurs, Southampton, Everton or the top four come to visit us.

    ReplyDelete
  171. JC what's with this moderation thing? Every second comment I make "is awaiting moderation" and it's not like I used any strong language. Anyway, so I said that Willian will not be coming near Anfield next year unless it's with another team playing against us. The same goes for Boussoufa, Jucilei and Traoré. We've already lost out on Denisov, Zhirkov and Kokorin to Dynamo Moscow and Shatov to Zenit St P.

    ReplyDelete
  172. i would believe the earths flat if that happens

    ReplyDelete
  173. well andy carroll had a 35m buy out clause then

    ReplyDelete
  174. swap the k for f and your not far out hahah

    ReplyDelete
  175. liverpool4life5657:36 pm, August 15, 2013

With willian, he wants a PL move he wanted it before but shakter wouldn't let him. If he has a chance then he would jump at it, he already said he likes liverpool so it's seems like it would happen. We just need to offer 30 million and cover his 100k wages which is okay for us. :)

    ReplyDelete
  176. I think you're right. People think that he might be a gamble coz he isn't as good as he was but Torres was the exact same when we bought him and the only reason we got him, imo, is because everyone else was too pessimistic about him to sign him - and he ended up being a gem for us. I think its happening again and, if we do get him, I believe we will see his best football come out with us. I'd rather get a CB and DM first as I don't like the cover there but won't be complaining if he's our final transfer of the season.

    ReplyDelete
  177. A PL move as in Man City who will sign him up before tomorrow evening. If you want to dream, dream for us to sign Jucilei too. Now there's a defensive midfielder if ever there was one. A tank with the technique and skill of a young Pele.

    ReplyDelete
  178. read some where he wants a Cl club so thats us out of the running for the foreseeable future

    ReplyDelete
  179. either that or sell up

    ReplyDelete
  180. I'm afraid that you are going to be right on this one... you will be right to do so because it's looking like one more player at the most will arrive. Rodgers comments about we have a serious chance of finishing in the top 4 with the current squad says it all. Damn you Jason ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  181. True, I saw that too but up till now he's been talking about CL not being a deciding factor. I think between Babel and Agger he's pretty much convinced that we are a good place to end up. I just think it's up to BR to make a bid and I worry that, seeing the owners concerns over expensive flops, he's afraid to pull the trigger in case Eriksen doesn't do well and he loses the faith of the owners in future transfer windows. But that's all speculation and only BR knows why we're not making a move

"I love the Premier League, much like the style of English football, and certainly if it happens will be good for me, for my image. I'll grow professionally, it's a World Cup year and surely this will be a showcase for me

    ReplyDelete
  188. Liverpool will not spend that much on a player, there are a lot of players who play in different positions and are quality, look at coultino lol , magnificent player, he wasn't near £30 mil, why spend that? i believe in Rogers and i believe he is bringing back the cups ( all of them ). all i know is that we need players and rogers will get them in this window, if not then you can worry. i think the most we will spend is around £20 mil being realistic.

    ReplyDelete
  189. I'm sad to say very few of you actually read this article, Anzhi's president says basically they have tried the throw money at it (doesn't work) approach and now will build an academy..
How hard is it just to give Rogers and FSG a chance to build? Stop wishing on a team of 30 million players.. please give Rodgers and FSG a chance to build something, we've spent a lot of money on academy players this year...and building will take time. If you really can't wait go support Chelsea and man City.. sorry but Marquee players may not be the be all and end all.

    ReplyDelete

With JK in our corner who needs enemies, I have never known anyone so negative in my life...Sorry my ex-wife was like JK, they would be a match made in heaven, they could sit and gripe all day long instead of trying to build a future, never mind who they could blame for the worlds short-comings. I cannot believe you are a Scouser Jamie, I think you are a Manc in disguise.

    ReplyDelete
  193. It's not players, it's agents. Plenty of them don't like the talk coming out of Liverpool about limiting transfer expenditure, controlling wage inflation, that kind of thing. Most of the big money signings that have happened this summer, notably those to Spurs, have been primarily agent-driven, rather than football-driven.

    ReplyDelete
  194. World Cup ahead and he is looking to get in the shop window, so he wants regular first team play. Scolari is already watching Coutinho and Lucas.

In January, he left a Champions League team (Shaktar) to go a team with no European competition, so it hardly seems a stumbling block in his mind.
