Confirmed LFC XI vs. Celtic: Big guns back. Fan-hero dumped from the squad

Daniel Sturridge returns to the LFC squad for today's (hopefully) competitive game against Celtic, but there's no place for wantaway striker Luis Suarez.

FULL TEAM: Mignolet, Johnson, Toure, Wisdom, Enrique, Lucas, Gerrard, Allen, Downing, Aspas, Coutinho.

SUBS: Jones, Alberto, Assaidi, Henderson, Sturridge, Coates, Borini, Sterling, Kelly, Flanagan, Ibe.

Raheem Sterling has clearly paid the price for his arrest last night, and Stewart Downing comes in to replace the youngster.

After being stabbed in the back (again) by Suarez in midweek, it's pleasing to see Rodgers do the right thing and banish the Uruguayan from the squad. This is the least he deserves for continually disrespecting the club, and with Sturridge back - and Aspas in excellent goalscoring form - he's not needed anyway.

Agger aside, I wouldn't be surprised if this starting XI is the same team that turns out against Stoke City next weekend.

Interesting to see that Wisdom is starting more games in at center half than Coates.... Wisdom has been outstanding in there though and he brings the ball out with comfort too. Hopefully we stick with this kid instead of buying another young center back........ he could be class......and FREE.

Good line up :) but against stoke, wisdom out, agger in, and downing out, Sturridge in.

  4. Yes, it's good to see and experience life after LS. I wish LS out asap but not to Arsenal, definitely. He is more likely to train with the reserve squad of LFC rather than the Champions League-bound Arsenal squad given his present attitude.

    ReplyDelete
  5. I can understand why Sterling was dropped but why not play with Ibe.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I doubt Sturridge will start due to match-fitness issues. He's been recovering from injury all summer, and this will be his first football in months. He'll probably be on the bench again.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Sturridge will probably start the United game, this is his first game in months

    ReplyDelete
  8. so rodgers never promised suarez he could go is that a fact,we do not know how stabbed who in the back jaimie ,but obviously you have made your mind up,onto the team no henderson again ,shocking

    ReplyDelete
  9. I am very dissappointed in our resolve to keep suarez. the only thing he is capable on coming season is hurting squad morale and our finances. I cannot see him giving us 100% from now untill he is sold. he is just that selfish that one he wont apologise, two wont act like pro and play to his fullest.

i hate that he is staying, dissappointed.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I suppose but I would like Ibe to start against Stoke.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Henderson has replaced Suarez as my 2nd favourite player due to his work rate and his versatility reminds a lot of a James Milner who is just as good at RB as he his at LW

    ReplyDelete
  12. There are 11 players on the bench so expect to see 11 changes when in second half starts.

It is all bout getting the players fit.

    ReplyDelete
  13. is agger rested/injured or are we actually concidering the barca bid? i would sell him for 17mill, but not this late in window.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Yes, I hate to see him stay but I will hate more to see him go to Arsenal, the main contender for the 4th spot in the league. I rather sell him for 35 mil pounds now but to someone overseas.

    ReplyDelete
  15. why should he apologise if he knows what rodgers said,(i am not taking sides but everbody is taking rodgers word as gospel, well lets face facts rodgers has been court out lying numerous times ,and if rodgers did say it to suarez he can hardly admit it ,it could cost him is job

    ReplyDelete
  16. We have just made him vice captain for the season. If he was being sold we would have known about it already.

    ReplyDelete
  17. 1. after making the alleged "gentlemans agreement" why did suarez sign a new contract with liverpool without such a clause??? i honestly believe suarez was making something up there, it´s obvious IMO.

    2. henderson captained our team a few days ago, and he will have a run again today, i dont see any point in giving all the players chances, like hendo did all of our current midfielders impressed me this pre-season so why shouldn´t rodgers give all the guys same chance to show what they can??

    ReplyDelete
  18. and anyone has insight it there is truth in Downing to West Ham rumors? ill jump to ceiling with joy if we offload him.

    ReplyDelete
  19. late bids. and we need cash. 17-20 mill for centreback is a lot of cash

    ReplyDelete
  20. and we need CB´s, agger is a good CB

    ReplyDelete
  21. you cannot fault his commitment

    ReplyDelete
  22. 17-20million £ good? i personally dont think so

    ReplyDelete
  23. I rather have a gamble of starting Assaidi rather than SD. Too bad for the 15 mil pounds loss but that's a realistic price so we have to accept it.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Theycallmemrburt4:26 pm, August 10, 2013

credit where credits due, Allen has been impressive pre season. He's put on some muscle, he looks quick and he looks dangerous. He's also dribbling with the ball a lot more which was his hallmark at Swansea. He's in line for a good one...........

    ReplyDelete
  25. We are not going to sell Agger for the sake of getting 17-20mil.

We would need to replace him with very little time left so there would be no sense in selling him.

    He is staying.

    ReplyDelete
  26. i agree. atleast we save fortune in wages. time to cut our losses with just like we did with carroll.

    ReplyDelete
  27. look m8 i can guarantee come stoke hendo will be on the bench and allen will start

    ReplyDelete
  28. Theycallmemrburt4:28 pm, August 10, 2013

then thats two of us lol

    Spread the word............

    ReplyDelete
  29. i think so too

    ReplyDelete
  30. reguardless of form it was always going to be the case,as sure as night followers day

    ReplyDelete
  31. i think we will find him on the bench against stoke, as an impact player for the last - lets say about - 20 minutes or so... depends on the game

    ReplyDelete
  32. Don't know who you are referring to with "fan-hero dumped", but I guess it is Suaréz as Agger surely isn't going to be dumped any time soon. Last time I have checked, Suaréz had little to no fans left at Liverpool, but plenty at Arsenal, flavour of the month there, though.

    ReplyDelete
  33. there is no point playing him unless hes fully fit ,it could damage his season

    ReplyDelete
  34. allen was superb in pre-season, so was hendo, you cant really blame rodgers there are only 11 men on the pitch, hendo and allen will fight it out this season

    ReplyDelete
  35. it would not have mattered what form was shown allen was getting picked over hendo ,

    ReplyDelete
  36. Hey folks. by the way. does anyone know international service where you could buy all Liverpool matches for coming season to be visible as HD internet streams?

last season we got that option in finland but appears they havent been able to provide the service this year. so im trying to find way how i could watch the games with good quality. i dont want to pay 250euros for local operator to watch their picks of games. they only televise 5 or so per round so good chance i dont see liverpool playing.

    ReplyDelete

I'll meet you on the roof............

    ReplyDelete
  38. try wizard ,or live football.org

    ReplyDelete
  39. hey mate, welcome back!
yeah i´d say he lost pretty much everything now in england, as the media, football fans around the world and even we "hate" him now.

    ReplyDelete
  40. probably, or probably not we dont know you can speculate

    ReplyDelete
  41. type live football in they are loads of free sites ,i sent a message with a few decent ones but it is waiting modification

    ReplyDelete
  42. downing > assaidi

    ReplyDelete
  43. internet stream quality is poor. i got my PC attached in my TV so if i want to watch full screen its bunch of blurr

    ReplyDelete
  44. I hope we have a new signing to come in, but i doubt it. I guess this will be the Stoke line up apart from Agger. Very disappointed if that is the case. This will not be a team for top 4

    ReplyDelete
  45. its funny coz Hendersons' first touch was a goal if i recall correctly

    ReplyDelete
  46. Why would I believe anything Suarez says? I'll always take Rodgers' word over Suarez.

    ReplyDelete
  47. JK always likes a sneaky little dig ;)

    ReplyDelete
  48. we mite have to thank Uncle Sam again for that ,anyway that might work well for SD and AC ;)

    ReplyDelete
  49. Suarez has been a hero to LFC fans for the last two years, irrespective of his biting/cheating ways. I'm sure many still feel the same about him.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I feel your pain mate, every saturday i'm stuck behind my small screen PC trying to work out if it's Gerrard or Johnson on the ball. But free streams have come a long way since a few years back.

But if anyone knows a legal service i would be very interested

    ReplyDelete
  51. I know somebody who's selling NBC Accounts where you can watch all Premier League matches or something along the same lines.

    ReplyDelete
  52. yeah and? hendo scored a goal, allen did so too

    ReplyDelete
  53. Agreed. I still think we are 3 players short. AND 1st teasers at that 5th AT BEST if there's no more business

    ReplyDelete
  54. wow ref is atrocious and celtic is like stoke city 3.0

    ReplyDelete
  55. sigh just like last season liverpool cannot deal with physical teams

    ReplyDelete
  56. mom imo for first half coutinho/downing(shudders)

    ReplyDelete
  57. Wasn't expecting anything different from Celtic...a better Stoke.Am I missing b=something but why are the Celtic 'fans' booing Gerrard? I'd say what my opinion on the type of some people who support Celtic in Ireland but I'll earn myself a ban for it :P

    ReplyDelete
  58. what?! we went down because wisdom made stupid mistake? cannot deal with physical teams? i think we have dominated the match, we havent been able to score is what im worried about

    ReplyDelete
  59. totally agree we all new what needed to happen this summer ,and it was completely ignored ,another thing what is the point of playing it out wide and getting decent crosses into the box ,when we have aspas and allen in there ,complete waste of possession

    ReplyDelete
  60. Yeah I can tell you are disappointed to know that BR did not lie. You and Steve Nicol looking silly by the day!!

    ReplyDelete
  61. every time they get in the box we are at sixes ans sevens ,

    ReplyDelete
  62. explain jason how arent we dealing with them? are you guys watching the game. we are dominant side here. you cant compare this to the last seasons stoke games when we were bullied out of the park. we are losing atm, but we are better team. and it doesnt mean their physicality is winning this game.

they are winning this game cause of wisdom made youthfull and stupid defensive error

    ReplyDelete
  63. precisely crosses will not work on pyshical teams i don't know why we still do it sigh and before anyone starts mingolet save was exceptional he was just unlucky but 1v1 again great save come on danny

    ReplyDelete
  64. that dominant we are losing 1 nil....the concept of football is being lost with fancy stats and names ...the idea is to beat the other team anything else is failure

    ReplyDelete
  65. theyve gone to box three or four times? and our defence is leaking against small teams just as badly.

    ReplyDelete
  66. why as it been proven no it as not ,or are you not letting on and you were there

    ReplyDelete
  67. im arguing against the claim that we arent coping with their physical presence. i strongly disagree, that they have physically overrun us. i dont think they have overrun us in any other aspect than the goals scored. which ofcourse is the most important. but their goal had nothing to with them being bigger meaner and stronger

    ReplyDelete
  68. A pretty pointless and invalid one in this case, me thinks.

    ReplyDelete
  69. your wasting your time m8 ....most on here would believe the moon is made of cheese if fsg put out a statement

    ReplyDelete
  70. From what I've seen, he is a very popular figure amongst Arsenal supporters right now. Until they finally realise that they won't get him.

    ReplyDelete
  71. we did it all last season its called tika taka ...or lumpimg it up as we have no creative players in midfield

    ReplyDelete
  72. wisdom was under pressure by a big player thats why he folded

    ReplyDelete
  73. i'm against the idea of keeping suarez, but i quite like how JWH and BR are managing the situation.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Theycallmemrburt6:18 pm, August 10, 2013

    stewart Downing *shakes head*

    ReplyDelete
  75. Ah its in ireland, most of thosevceltic 'fans' are probably manc fans who own a celtic jersey....

    ReplyDelete
  76. "not needed anyway".......do I sence a bit of resentment?

    ReplyDelete
  77. urgh well at least this defeat will force FSG to see what we've seen all along lfc still need a few more signings to make it into a top four team

    ReplyDelete
  78. that is BS and you know it. he charged the ball. thats why he folded.

never F***** charge or you are out of it

    ReplyDelete
  79. goals win games not style of play and possession when it comes to it teams that have a dominant physical presence always beat this new liverpool and with teams like west ham, swansea, chelsea (demba ba), newcastle and others going for this we should be worried that we cannot deal with these teams oh yh aston villa to

    ReplyDelete
  80. liverpool4life5656:58 pm, August 10, 2013

Positives-Sturridge playing 45 minutes, creating chances, ibe impressing again, same for Allen, Negatives-Not taking the chances we create and wisdom showing his inexperience, but he will get that over time. Need to bring In another CB soon.

    ReplyDelete
  81. allen was better than hendo tonight. and all preseason long

    ReplyDelete
  82. might not be a bad thing losing it will give a few a kick......whats worries me is we seldom come back and win when we go behind....like ive said its great looking good against bad teams but there are no easy games in the prem

    ReplyDelete
  83. most on this forum have been saying we need another Cb

    ReplyDelete
  84. Yeah..... that was the first real test of the pre-season and they failed miserably. I can see why LS wants out of this mess (not justifying his tactics thou)

    ReplyDelete
  85. well done celtics kids and reserves i can hear our balloon popping from hear ,cue the rodgers i thought we were fantastic dribble

    ReplyDelete
  86. liverpool4life5657:04 pm, August 10, 2013

So have I, but I think Rodgers is waiting for papadopoulous to get fit so he can have his medical.... But we will see what happens :)

    ReplyDelete
  87. i honestly believe rogers and some of the fsg fan boys thought we where going to go through pre season and the season unbeaten......like you put it m8 thats the first half decent and i mean half decent team we have played and got beat

    ReplyDelete
  88. I'll be very surprised if he goes. We don't need money as we won't spend it anyway

    ReplyDelete
  89. just what we need another crock

    ReplyDelete
  90. if max says hes staying hes staying end of

    ReplyDelete
  91. take back that comment on downing

    ReplyDelete
  92. Well if he gets fit, passes a medical then maybe he isn't a crock. I imagine most players have some injuries during the career

    ReplyDelete
  93. liverpool4life5657:10 pm, August 10, 2013

He had same Injury Lucas had with his knee and he came back and looked good, with our medical staff he be fine and he looks a excellent player when fit. And wouldn't call him a crock.

    ReplyDelete
  94. some posters on here think its ice skating and you get points for poise and style...tuff season ahead im afraid

    ReplyDelete
  95. Lets be honest we didn't fail miserably. We dominated the game (i know goals are important) and probably could have scored a bucket load. I know this is what has happened the last few seasons. But give me 2 top class players and i think we will be set. LE for me needs to be replaced asap!

    ReplyDelete
  96. our medical staff are you having a giraffe...the same guys who let allen play with his shoulder hanging by a thread...f*cking geniuis

    ReplyDelete
  97. but we wont be getting two world class players....and please we lost ...forget about all of this possession Bs the aim is to score more than the other team we didn't and got beat

    ReplyDelete
  98. You are getting upset because of losing a friendly?

Is this the first time we have lost a friendly?

    ReplyDelete
  99. liverpool4life5657:14 pm, August 10, 2013

What's the supposed to do with it? we are talking about people coming back from Injurys.

    ReplyDelete
  100. im not upset just amazed we lost...having read your posts about how we have got rid of the deadwood and signed brilliant cheap players i was expecting a cake walk

    ReplyDelete
  101. I didn't say world class players, i said top class, for me that is a level below world class. Also like i said i know goals win games, possession isn't BS as that is how we are trying to play. But it's Celtic, pre season, we lost due to a reserve player making a mistake, so let's calm down a little?

Like it or not, Suarez looks like he will be playing for us next season and he has a cutting edge that we need

    ReplyDelete
  102. liverpool4life5657:18 pm, August 10, 2013

We got beat by a goal which started From a mistake not the end of the world. Only pre season

    ReplyDelete
  103. lol when I think about it more,What you say is usually the truth

    ReplyDelete
  104. Positives - Kolo Toure. Negatives - majority of everything else. It shouldnt really bother me that much but we clearly went there to destroy them given the team we put out and Celtic fielded a bunch of inexperienced youngsters. I dont even think Celtic were particularly physical despite what most people said. We probably thought it was in the bag and could just run through them. I can only hope that FSG see that we still need reinforcements and Rogers sees that Coutinho has to be played behind Sturridge. Unfortunately, this pre season seems like a missed opportunity to experiment with some different formations because I think we'd all like to see Henderson, Allen and Coutinho in the centre of the field but I cant see how that will happen.

    ReplyDelete
  105. lucas came back then got injured straight away...allen and Gerrard where both playing when there was nothing to play for yet both required ops...

    ReplyDelete
  106. liverpool4life5657:20 pm, August 10, 2013

He got injured from a Different Injury not the same one.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Sorry, but where did i say the likes of reina was dead wood?

I find it quite funny how the club is making you so sad?

    ReplyDelete
  108. well i do like to amuse

    ReplyDelete
  109. As quoted from Brendan rogers bumper book of bloomers

    ReplyDelete
  110. I can imagine the torture you put yourself through.

    ReplyDelete
  111. we lost because the other team scored more goals

    ReplyDelete
  112. i dont know reading your posts isnt that bad

    ReplyDelete
  113. We lost because a kid made an error

    ReplyDelete
  114. liverpool4life5657:25 pm, August 10, 2013

We learn from mistakes :) so it's fine. Least they will be more determined to be stoke now and not layed back if we had won.

    ReplyDelete
  115. kids make errors all the times but good teams have men to make up that error

    ReplyDelete
  116. I am not talking about my posts.

I am talking about you supporting LFC.

All it does is make you a sad person.

    ReplyDelete
  117. For God sake! Whats the purpose of pre season if its not to be able to assess your level of competency?

    ReplyDelete
  118. on another day we would have scored

    ReplyDelete
  119. Theycallmemrburt7:27 pm, August 10, 2013

Not too up when we win.........Not to down when we lose.

    a few things:

    the bad
    1) I don't like Coutinho out wide. He's tricky but not quick enough out there
    2) Our midfield shut down mentally and lacked confidence after we conceded which is worrying. We completely dominated beforehand.
    3) Glen Johnson really needs to go on the outside once in a while. I knew exactly what he had in mind everytime he picked the ball up

    the good
    4) We look good when we have Ibe's raw pace on the flank. We need another couple of players like him to fill those wide roles and keep teams constantly on the back foot.

    5) Toure and Wisdom looked pretty good.

We still had enough chances to win. We had Studge half fit and Suarez practicing his scouse back in Pool. Overall not great but not the end of the world either.

    ReplyDelete
  120. ive posted its probably a good thing we lost im not a fan of coasting through pre season winning all the games...it breeds ciomplacency

    ReplyDelete
  121. liverpool4life5657:28 pm, August 10, 2013

Least we agree on something :-)

    ReplyDelete
  122. sorry i jumped the gun ....you said torture and i put 2 and 2 together with your posts

    ReplyDelete
  123. We have a threat in the box from corners now. Toure will get a couple this season.

    ReplyDelete
  124. on another day my aunt could be my uncle

    ReplyDelete
  125. liverpool4life5657:31 pm, August 10, 2013

Purpose of Pre season is to get fitness up and work on general play. Also work on any mistakes we have done. Learning curve for the players, like wisdom :)

    ReplyDelete
  126. You're right, i see my error now. We are shit, we have no one that can score, we will not score goals. We might as well pack up as we lost to Celtic in pre-season.

I look forward to pre-season 14/15, maybe we then can beat Celtic

    ReplyDelete
  127. now your talking

    ReplyDelete
  128. did i say good i meant bad hahaha

    ReplyDelete
  129. for sure. Just can't the overly positive and negative people on this site. It's pre-season let's just relax?

    ReplyDelete
  130. Not the end of the world? I really really admire your coolness on this. Its a total disaster........ nothing has changed dont you see? Whats the difference between this team and the team that started last season? We dont have a goal scorer and now without LS goals its smells relegation battle to me! Im freaking out!

    ReplyDelete
  131. Theycallmemrburt7:35 pm, August 10, 2013

He's big strong and quick. When he 1st got into the Arsenal side he played LEFT WING and I remember thinking "What a player!" He used to fly past the full back! The following season Wenger sticks him in at center back much to my surprise and he looked class.

You're right he'll give us something extra in the air this season but he'll also give us a little extra composure on the deck.

    ReplyDelete
  132. liverpool4life5657:38 pm, August 10, 2013

    Over react much...

    ReplyDelete
  133. Planet X is on a pathway to earth. Run as fast as you can!

    ReplyDelete
  134. Me too, but I am against selling him to Arsenal even more.

    ReplyDelete
  135. Cool, calm and collective. Doesn't panic like Skrtel.

    ReplyDelete
  136. Theycallmemrburt7:43 pm, August 10, 2013

What I saw was a team who were playing like a safe mid table cup final team in the last league game of the season. It was testimonial pace at times today. No one wants to miss the opener against Stoke, maybe this was a factor in our sometimes lethargic approach.

    ReplyDelete
  137. google ronaldo7 dot net, and the team. yhey have decent HD feeds, and play most games. also atdhenet dot tv is good, but not HD

    ReplyDelete
  138. Theycallmemrburt7:47 pm, August 10, 2013

let's hope Skrtel get's to grips with the system or someone makes a 10m bid. either way I'm probably being overly optimisitic.....but heres hoping.

    ReplyDelete
  139. He was not in the squad today. Could be that he was left behind to not risk injury? Napoli maybe?

    ReplyDelete
  140. Exactly! the only decent team of the whole pre season and its a loss.......... On top of that, its the LAST game of pre season forcing me to watch first game with a bitter taste

    ReplyDelete
  141. i cant see the point of pointing out the positives...there where some goods things today but i want to know whats wrong with the team and ideas on how to address it i dont to keep reading what a bargain tino is

    ReplyDelete
  142. true no one went into the challenge with vindiction... can't blame them though i mean look what happened to agger

    ReplyDelete
  143. after watching the game in the flesh from the aviva I can assure you we will not get top 4, fcuking disaster.

    ReplyDelete
  144. I love how the typical doom and gloom people on here come out basically saying "told ya so" because lfc lost... wait a sec...IT WAS PRESEASON GAME. meaning it was worth zero points! and didn't affect any cups. it's just preseason people. I know everybody likes to see wins. fact is that no one has ever gone undefeated, losing can be more beneficial than winning because it allows you to see what went wrong and where you can make adjustments to hopefully correct it. at least wait to be doom and gloom until a couple games are at least played, in the actual season where it affects the points haul

    ReplyDelete
  145. back to the 90's? eh? football is about running and who has the biggest players. the best of all are Vieri and Vinnie Jones?

    ReplyDelete
  146. Underperforming players is whats wrong with the "team", why pretend you don't know that.....

Its just the same old, yet again.....

    ReplyDelete
  147. Why does one defeat out of seven - which makes it the EXCEPTION not the rule of current form - take precedence? Why do the previous six victories suddenly no longer matter?

    ReplyDelete
  148. So LFC lost a game? Big deal. It wasn't a bad loss, yet people are making it out to be some season-ending disaster. Why would you watch the first prem game with a 'bitter taste'? Since when did one narrow pre-season defeat mean that the world is ending?

    ReplyDelete
  149. Relegation battle? With respect, aren't you embarrassed to be this melodramatic?

    ReplyDelete
  150. I love it when people assure me we won't get top 4. It makes it seem like you're telling me something we don't already know. Most of us realize that top 4 is a long shot and really don't expect it, we just want to get close.

    ReplyDelete
  151. Mark my words we will be in the championship next year, losing to Celtic, what a shocker, we should actually be relegated now and banned from football for being an embarrassment to life!

    ReplyDelete
  152. Exactly. Pre-season is important, but results are secondary. For example, the last time LFC won the league (89-90) pre-season was a mixed bag, with 2 defeats, 2 draws and only 3 wins in 7 games. Did it matter? Not in the slightest. There's no real correlation between pre-season results and league performance.

  153. Exactly. Why would the players bust a gut with new season only a week away. No one wants to get injured - competition for places is fierce so if someone gets injured now, it may be hard to win back a place in the team.

Today's game was a showpiece, not a competitive game that mattered, and the result is irrelevant. If some of LFC's players come out of it a little bit sharper and hungrier for the first league game of the season, that's more important.

  154. It's preseason.. its only getting into shape, yeah the team is not sorted yet and that will take two or three games to sort, however, anyone that thinks the players are dedicated to win these games need to take a rain check.. no one wants to pick up an injury for a friendly. Lets wait and see and have some hope

  155. I think a fair few players have been told they can move on. Skrtel's confidence is shot to pieces. He likes to defend the 18 yard box with a bank of four in front. Either Napoli or England then....

I would say that he'll still give 100% - but only for himself. And that means that we will be back playing less as a team (which is what happens whenever he is in the side). We did reasonably well without him in the side and looked more like a team, especially going forward. He's a great player but just too disruptive and I can see where Jamie's coming from - even with him in the side, we weren't really going anywhere.

    ReplyDelete
  158. I agree as we saw last season Allen can be injured and still get picked over Henderson who at the time was one of the most influential players in our team.

Allen better perform otherwise I'll be calling him and Rodgers out for it. Especially if he's playing further up the pitch, that's not his position.

It's not as if he has the status of Gerrard or Messi, someone who is always in the team. And don't say he's the Welsh Xavi either...

If you think about it, Gerrard is a guaranteed starter, so is Lucas, and Allen is the golden child, that's all 3 places in midfield guaranteed

  159. How on earth can you not expect at the very LEAST a top 4?? Are you telling me that Liverpool has become a mid-table team for good and we should settle for that? Should we pop champagne if we make it to Europa League? What are you saying m8? It infuriates me how people are lowering the bar year after year..........

    ReplyDelete
  160. ok, yes you have a point. On the other hand Celtic was playing full throttle since a victory for them was as big as lifting the world cup

    ReplyDelete
  161. Sigh......youre missing the big picture Jaimie. It was the only pre season game against a profesional rival. The other 6 were semi-profesional or lets say amateur. You are trying to foul yourself if you believe otherwise

    ReplyDelete
  162. Like JK said I will take BR word over Suarez any day! Didn't the PFA chairman confirm there was no such clause about letting him go if we do not make CL?? I know when it comes to you the sky is pink!!!

    ReplyDelete
  163. Hey gilstrap Suarez has a bridge he wants to sell ya!!

    ReplyDelete
  164. After 70 minutes the score will be 0-0 and that's the best case scenario.

    ReplyDelete
  165. *poof* What's that? That's the sound of the pre-season positive bubble bursting

    ReplyDelete
  166. Because I'm realistic. With the team we have right now, we have no chance at top 4. I'm not lowering the bar, I'm very much not happy about being outside of the top 4. We need more investment, if that happens then maybe top 4 is doable

    ReplyDelete
  167. i only can think one occasion from last season we went down and won the game. first west ham game.

yeah we dont seem to win the games if we dont score first

    ReplyDelete
  168. Preseason is for auditions in and out. Soon Assaidi, Spearing, Coates, skrtel and possibly Downing will be gone. We should play Kelly, Alberto,Aspas and Ibe under the condition that learns to pass a bit. Add Cissoko and Siquiera and drop anchor. Lets see what the team can do.....

    ReplyDelete
  169. Valerenga played europaleague semifinals couple of seasons back and olympiaikos is a decent team.

united lost bunch of games to teams from orient. i doubt their fans think their season is over already. they should though, im enjoying watching moyes F*** up over there

  170. kolo is a beast of a defender still. our best CB

    ReplyDelete
  171. allen started ,hendo came on and was shipped out on the left

    ReplyDelete
  172. hes got to play some wear

    ReplyDelete
  173. your right m8 the only way they will learn is the hard way;-)

    ReplyDelete
  174. because we where playing whipping boys ...Celtics second team are the closest we have come to a prem team in pre season and we didn't really threaten goal....that's a cause for concern

    ReplyDelete
  175. I think Henderson will just do what he did last season, prove he is better. Rodgers made him captain for a game and also specifically mentioned him as a leader when Agger got vice captain. I'm disappointed Allen starts but if he plays out of his skin to stay in the team and we do well so be it mate, as much as I like Hendo.

    ReplyDelete
  176. agree but if hendo performs better he should be dropped but ,even then he will get every chance

    ReplyDelete
  177. I know but its better than nothing..its not like Hendo is likely to be sold unlike last summer. No more BS though, the better performer plays, simple, no favourites, or I'll end up smashing the tv at 3am in the morning when Allen is announced in the starting line ups :P

    ReplyDelete
  178. I think it was an important work-out for the team. Clearly it was the first game they played at closer to full tempo and you could see they wanted to win. Confidence is one thing but Liverpool have had enough wins in pre-season. You need a good kick in the pants to show you precisely where your level is just prior to starting the season and that's what we got. The team needs another step up and now they know just how far off they are. A really good work-out.

Interestingly Skrtel doesn't even make the bench, I think he's certain for Napoli which means we can sign one of our CB targets. Good news.

    ReplyDelete
  179. they get expensive them tvs ;-)

  180. You've put it right here! HAS BEEN. It's something in the past. FORMER Liverpool fan-hero...
And I am not sure at all about you suggestion that many still feel positive in any way about Suaréz. I still think that he is a very, very good football player. So is the fake Ronaldo and I don't like him one bit, want him no-where near our club.

    ReplyDelete
  181. Absolutely ridiculous comment Jason. 1. The more games he plays, the fitter he will get, no? 2. With your logic, there is no point in playing ANYBODY as it could damage their season. I mean, its dangerous crossing the road, right?

What did you think of the atmosphere?
I was amazed that we outnumbered the Celtic fans at least 4 to 1 yet they outsung us. Typical over-confident LFC fans - give it the big 'un outside the ground then (apart from YNWA) they just sit there and clap politely. That's why the atmosphere is crap at Anfield too. There's too many people going for the experience, instead of to support the club.
    What an anti-climax :(
