Galatasaray goal-machine Burak Yilmaz is reportedly on Brendan Rodgers transfer short-list this summer, and Liverpool are monitoring the Turkish star with a view bringing him in to replace outgoing striker Luis Suarez.
According to Sky Sports:
"Liverpool are keeping tabs on Galatasaray striker Burak Yilmaz.
"Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is drawing up a shortlist of targets to replace Luis Suarez.
"Should he leave, Rodgers will be keen to bring in a big-name signing to help fill the void".
Liverpool have been regularly linked with a move for 27-year old Yilmaz (who cost Galatasaray a mere €5m in July 2012), and in April, Galatasaray coach Fatih Terim has admitted for the first time that star-striker Burak Yilmaz could leave the Turkish club this summer. He told The Observer:
"It's not going to be easy to keep him [Yilmaz]. Burak senses goals. He can score any time and from anywhere. He is always thinking about scoring one more goal. In that respect, he's like Andriy Shevchenko. He has been a miracle signing, and he is going to get better and better."
Galatasaray president Unal Aysal also admitted recently that the club is prepared to sell Yilmaz for the right price. He told reporters:
"We have set a price for Burak Yilmaz. We will only consider an offer which is in the best interests of the club and player. If Burak wants to leave and our transfer demands are matched, we will accept a deal."
If the price to which which Aysal refers is the same fee he quoted in March, then it's still ridiculously unrealistic. At that time, he told Sabah:
"Speculation will mount, but Burak is a very valuable star for us. If, however, we are talking about Falcao being worth €55 million, then my player is €40m."
Yilmaz's goalscoring stats are superb:
* 55 goals in 77 appearances in his two years at Trabzonspor.
* Last season, he broke Trabzonspor's all-time scoring record in the league.
* 32 goals in 39 games for Gala last season, including 7 in the Champions League.
* Higher goals-per-minute ratio than Cristiano Ronaldo (in the CL)
An argument could definitely be made for Yilmaz being worth that kind of money, but in reality, there's no way (IMO) any club - including Liverpool - will pay that much for him, especially when he only cost Galatasaray €5m. One thing is for sure: Yilmaz is a natural goalscorer, and in my view, he would be an ideal replacement for Luis Suarez.

£40 million Pfft, yea right!
ReplyDeleteWhy do people make such stupid comments sometimes. "He is always thinking about scoring one more goal. In that Respect, he is like Shevchenko." No he is like every striker.
I don't think there would be any striker who goes, "I've scored one today, that will do."
Seriously good striker.............who know's???????
ReplyDeletewhats he like playing in front of ppl tho?.The kop is is fairly intimidating.
ReplyDeleteWhy are we not Telling Real Madrid we want Gonzalo Higuain plus £15-£18 million ?
ReplyDelete10-15mn max. Kuyt is scoring goals for fun in Turkey. Actually, 10mn should be enough.
ReplyDeletehe looks a fantastic striker and is less wasteful in front of goal and a better header of the ball, if suarez do leave and we could get this guy I think suarez would soon be a distant memory
ReplyDeleteIf a player who did it in Spain's top division is 55m, then a guy who did it in Turkey's top division is 5,5m, not 40m. Their president got the "exchange rates" totally wrong.
ReplyDeleteAnd that should include 5m of add-ons should he actually deliver the goods in the Prem.
ReplyDeleteThat, actually, is a very good question.
ReplyDeletethis guy is a top striker, people like to compare him with klose, as they have many similarities.
ReplyDeleteIMO he should definitely be on the suarez-replacement-list ...
but never for 40m ... considering his champions league performances and his goal ratio in turkey i would value him around 20m... (or 15m with 5m addons if he performs well)
And yes, JK remember you blasting Liverpool for 'disrespecting' Vegard Forren by handling an international player a trial instead of a serious bid. You talked about Ayre/Rodgers not doing good enough job of selling him the club and how Saints did a good job by showing serious interest. That player is now back to his former club without appearing even once for Southampton. LIVERPOOL REJECTED HIM ON TRIAL ITSELF. You must give some credit to Liverpool as how well they dodged this bullet but you instead blasted them without knowing anything about the players competence.
ReplyDeleteOutgoing striker Suarez? Says who. Unless Madrid stump up £40+m and all reports suggest otherwise then unless Bayern or Napoli step up which I doubt he will be stuck with us. Arsenal.....no chance.
ReplyDeleteif BR says he would love to keep him because hes the key for top 4 for us, why dont we just make it easy? 70m for all Premier League clubs 50m for others... win win situation - either we get enough money to replace him, or we can keep a genious footballer...
ReplyDeleteObviously it's because we don't have CL football! Same goes with David villa guys..
ReplyDeleteI'd rather have that Negredo guy. He's cheaper and plays in a better league with better performance. 32 goals in 41 appearances for a 9th place team in La Liga speaks for itself.
ReplyDeletehe is playing In a weaker league but was equal top scorer in the cl scoring 6 goals level with ronaldo so I don't think he would have any problems playing in the pl
ReplyDeleteExactly and where did we get Suarez from???
ReplyDeleteNo way LFC is gonna sanction that signing for that price. I believe under 20 million is the right price for him. I don't know why we're not getting linked to Muriel or Soldado, they're both what FSG is looking for. Cheap and full of potential and with a lot of sell on value.
ReplyDeleteright-click disabled... hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
ReplyDeleteretard
I don't agree with the notion the FSG are looking for young players because of potential sell on value. Think about that for a minute ... how would it work? Would we sign a young player, wait until they get really good, and then simply let them leave for a transfer fee? If that was the business model then we'd be selling Suarez in a heart beat. He was bought young and we'll make a huge profit. Still, the club seems to want to keep the player here.
ReplyDeleteThe idea of buying young as a kind of revenue generating exercise makes little sense. To get a profit you'd need to sell the player at their peak. That's about the dumbest thing you can do. You invest time and money and effort into a player, allow them to grow and then, when they're finally good enough, we just sell them? I really can't see Rodgers going for that, I can't see any manager allowing it to happen. Does it mean we're looking to sell Coutinho in a couple of years? Will we wait until Sterling is a first team regular and then let him leave?
I think the justification for buying is just that they are usually cheaper and you get more years for your transfer fee. United got limited time out of Berbatov and Van Persie will be the same. Not to say they were not good buys, but there is no margin for error. We'll get plenty of good years from our new young players. If you sign a kid at 20 and he players his whole career then it's a minimum 10 years of service for that initial (lower) transfer fee. Buy the top player at 26 or 27, you usually pay more and you only get 4-5 years of their best football.
I honestly think it's just a more careful approach when you don't have big bucks to splash out on older established players. It's worked well for Arsenal and it's not like the Gunners ever wanted to sell Fabregas or Van Persie, they just ended up with players who wanted to go. If Wenger had his way both players would still be there. Same with Ronaldo at United. No one intends to work that way, it's just good that you get a big fee for a kid you once paid peanuts for.
I just wish we'd stop fussing and get it done!
ReplyDeleteplz Suarez should if he wish to,we don't have to unhappy player...we have to be more focus on what we are doing....there are so many players who is more better than him.....why not go for Hamsick from Napoli
ReplyDeleteAt that price we won't be able to afford him anyway unless he's less than £15 million .
ReplyDeleteHeskey?
ReplyDeletenaa heskey would say "ive scored one this season, that will do"
