Last week, Sky Sports Italia claimed that Liverpool had put in a bid for Brazilian midfielder Jorge Luiz Frello Filho - aka Jorginho - who currently plays for Serie B side Hellas Verona. Speculation about the youngster's future has intensified over the last week, and now a second source has corroborated Sky Sports' claim.
During last night's broadcast of Italian football show SportItalia, journalist Alfredo Pedulla - formerly of Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport - confirmed that Liverpool had put in an €8m offer for Jorginho, who is also reportedly wanted by a whole host of top clubs, including Arsenal, Chelsea, AC Milan, Juventus, Manchester United and Manchester City.
A few details about this little-known player:
* 21-years old.
* Born in Brazil but grew up in Italy.
* Came through the Verona youth academy.
* Chose to represent Italy at international level.
* Joined Verona last year from Serie D side AC Sambonifacese.
* Would be eligible for a work permit straight away.
* One cap for Italy's U21 side.
* 2 goals in 41 apps last season
Last month, Italian newspaper Gazetta Dello Sport reported that AC Milan had agreed a deal to sign Jorginho, but Verona President Maurizio Setti swiftly denied the story. He told reporters:
"Jorginho? There is interest from Milan but no deal has been agreed. Plus, we want to keep him for another year."
Jorginho can play in several different positions (attacking midfield; Defensive mid; Central-mid playmaker, and Right wing), so Rodgers' interest is hardly surprising.
Additionally, with 73 appearances in the last two seasons, the Brazilian has a good level of experience for his age, and his great form last season helped Verona to win promotion to Serie A.
After the apparent collapse of the Henrikh Mkhitaryan deal, some Reds fans will not be appeased by bargain-basement signings from Serie B. However, if Jorginho signs for Liverpool, and has a similar impact to fellow Brazilian Coutinho, the doubters will quickly be silenced.

instead of him can we make a move for fred ????? he will be a good signing to make up for mhkitaryan
ReplyDeleteJorginho 4 goals and 5 assists in 71 games in Serie B.
ReplyDeleteCoutinho 3 goals and 5 assists in 13 games in the Premier League! (and was subbed in a lot of games)
He's gonna have to come on leaps and bounds to make that sort of impact.
yep
ReplyDeleteLook before liverpool565 come on and says its early days yet in the transfer market . why are we not making much different signings then stoke Fulham Swansea . Mignolet is buy far the best signing . who every we are linked with is a lottery . This is just example Spurs Paulinho man united want Thigo Chelsea Witsel not expensive class players . We have to Beg FSG for 10 mil to bring Alonso back .
ReplyDeleteYes we should all panic & act like headless chickens coz clearly the 4 players we've signed must be crap cos they didn't cost much - just like Coutinho.
ReplyDeleteStop moaning.
ReplyDeleteYER your right assaidi allen Borini
ReplyDeleteHe looks interesting, but I don't see how he is a Mkhitaryan alternative.
ReplyDeleteWe need goals from midfield.
Okay player, don't know much about him, but no way is he a alternative for Mkhitaryan.
ReplyDeleteI don't think cost is the issue. None have been particularly cheap, expensive if anything. The 2 Spaniards at £7m each and this guy at £8m.
ReplyDeleteMore the fact that they have just over 1 season of top flight footballing experience between them!! Coutinho had at least played in the top flight in 3 different countries.
Write this date down we agree
ReplyDeleteI hope this trend really changes because for now we've enough youngsters and even if they want to sign youngsters then there are better players in the Siriea A such as Insigne.
ReplyDeleteMaybe we should have got Darren Bent for 35m, I'm sure that'd make you happy
ReplyDeleteAnother left footed attacker, thank you but no, we've got Aspas, Downing and Suso already
ReplyDeleteThere will be plenty of goals from midfield this season as it will consist of 5 men. It would be interesting to buy Raktic though of Sevilla. He would slot well in with Lucas in the defensive midfield. He is a dl playmaker and he scores/assists goals too. Then keep Allen, sell Hendo to someone willing to overpay.
ReplyDeleteAttacking midfield looks quite interesting with Gerrard, Couthino, Aspas, Suarez (for now), Suso (off the bench) Alberto (off the bench), Sterling (off the bench), Ibe (off the bench), Downing (off the bench). Suarez if he stays of course will play the striker role in this system often. Sturridge has been phenomenal though since he came, can he shake off his injury I actually prefer him up front and Suarez attacking in a more free role from the right.
could be great in a few years ,but if all these players for the future flop, then the future will be bleak, please god let this drain of a transfer window close
ReplyDeleteHe hit the penalty with his right foot.
ReplyDeleteWE Got SUSO baby
ReplyDeleteWhy can't we go with the obvious solution and get Christian eriksen. We missed out on our main target for the AM position so why not go for our second option. There must be a catch with Ajax because both us and dortmund turned away from eriksen... He's a quality player at the age of 21 and is arguably world class and isn't going to cost any more than 18mill.
ReplyDeleteits not about big name signings its about if they can play the system, we bought Rush from a lower league and king Kenny from celtic, if that was now the same people would be running down the clubs choice of transfer target, but look what they turned out to be like, its about recognising the talent early and buying cheep and turning them into top notch players.
ReplyDeletewhats wrong with a left footed player?
ReplyDeletewe have more right footed players than left - nobody is moaning about that. it doesnt matter if your left or right, if you play on a decent basis and do your job nobody will care if you strike the ball with your left your right your head or whatever.
whatever i doubt this guy is good enough
glad to be back - not that anyone missed me ;)
ReplyDeleteim not overly conviced about this guy.
IMO there are better (or more proven) players to go for, which wouldnt cost the world. Rakitic Gourcuff ... would be good players for a decent price
lol king kenny was a british transfer record ,he was hardly unknown
ReplyDeletei missed you were you been;)
ReplyDeleteMkhitaryan is a player very few actually knew about until we were linked with him and it shows that our scouts are doing some decent work behind the scenes and we may have missed out on him but that does not mean he is our only option. There are many good players out there and like you say, it is about finding players like fit the system.
ReplyDeleteThey do not have to be the best. When we signed Sturridge I was not overly excited but from his first game he won me over. Coutinho has been a masterclass and we got him for 8 million!
Aspas and Alberto are not household names if they create the impact Coutinho and Sturridge did then it will show that we are on the right track.
Look at it this way, would you rather take a chance on Aspas and Alberto at a combined fee of 15 million or go for Alberto Aquilani who was a marquee signing at 20 million...
missed ur german insight mate :P
ReplyDeletecan we just forget about damn attackers and get a damn cb for the love of god carra has retired and we need to shell out 20mill to get his replacement to HM or jorginho or anyone else !!!!
ReplyDeletefar too much money spent on average players
ReplyDeleteKing Kenny played in the old scottish first division, not excactly an exciting league, a big step up to the old english first division, though Shankly liked him.
ReplyDeleteyes i said gourcuff would be a nice bargain because he is seriously off form and wants to move to the prem , he is a real goal threat with supreme technique and at 26 he is at the perfect age .. doubt this jorg kid better than suso so why waste the money and possible slow down our own youth players growth. makes no sense !
ReplyDeletesouthampton signed dejan lovern good defender .. all the "supposedly lower" teams have been very active and have made some really great signings EPL is going to be hectic next year. agree we need a cb, toby my 1st choice. honestly think we need protection in front of them , that should be our priority . lucas is half the player he was before his injury and besides we need more competition . nemanja Matic needs to be brought in this guy is a beast will break down the play and is excellant on the ball so he will suit our " new style " of play. standing at 194 cm he could help against a stoke/set plays.. and chips in with goals aswell. BENFICA PLAYER of the Year!
ReplyDeletehe was still a record fee and the scottish league and players were a lot better then ,and shankly liked him he had him on trial but paisley signed him years later
ReplyDeleteeverybody deserves holidays sometimes m8 :)
ReplyDeleteabsolutely right, if we want another CAM it should be an experienced one. Gourcuff could be a good solution!
ReplyDeletematic is too expensive if didnt go for mhiktaryan no way matic as fpor defensive cover hack southamptons bid for wanyama .....he will move to us atleast seeing how we at least fight for top 4
ReplyDeletelol i.am due one ,hope you enjoyed it
ReplyDeletewe did not put up much of a fight last year ,we were powder puff
ReplyDeleteBrendan is building something special, he knows exactly who hes bidding for, people flap because were not buying in the top 3 players in their respected league.
ReplyDeleteHe is plucking players from all over the place, I have a feeling he is going to get it right and silence a lot of people, its not just what hes doing with tactics either its his complete attitude, everyone else at the club seams to be getting in on it as well.
As for Mr Suarez .... My money say's he stay's
what like he inherited at swansea and laudrop made better, you need to take a good look at his swansea signings ,the best players were signed by martinez ,
ReplyDeleteyou jest ,sell allen keep henderson
ReplyDeletekeep both have competition
ReplyDeletesorry m8 sell allen buy competition for hendo
ReplyDeleteIn no particular order:
ReplyDeleteWanyama
Alderweidd
Erisken
fred is a beast in front of the goal, but hes 28 i think - no chance ...
ReplyDeleteNope. Laudrop done worse in the league, only thing he done was win the carling cup.
ReplyDeleteKenny cost a fortune at the time, + Celtic won the European Cup, they were a match for any English team. What has happened Scottish football,? they produce no quality now, except Managers.
ReplyDeleteGo for a marquee.
ReplyDeleteYou already got Carroll
ReplyDeleteWould you have the same opinion on Ian Rush, Phil Neale or John Barnes etc ?? ALL who were signed from lower leagues only to become icons of our club !!
ReplyDeleterodgers signings are hit and miss so far. But as a man manager and coach hes great. Hopefully hel be around for the next 20 odd years.
ReplyDeletebit of topic, but does anyone else think think that suarez has gonna go to arsenal to escape the english media?
ReplyDeleteaccoring to some news we turned down a 30m bid from arsenal. not even for 60m to a local rival i´d say. after his comments about leaving into another country it would drive me crazy if he goes to a local rival...
Wasnt it reported that he gets leaving his home town let alone the country?
ReplyDeletei know he struggled at Milan but havent followed him too much once he went back to france
Dortmund's current star players were young and cheap signings other than Reus. Hopefully liverpool can emulate dortmund.
ReplyDeleteIts a bit too much to expect actually. As much as everyone of us would like to see BR silencing people and blah blah, its not gonna happen. These signings makes me think 2 ways. Coutinho/Sturridge types or Allen/Borini types. Although I think Borini is fantastic potential but he wasn't effective in his first season and same can be said about all these signings. And if that happens, we will have the same playing XI as last year.
ReplyDeleteGourcuff is done and dusted.
ReplyDeletewe signed kenny ten years after they won the cup he played no part whatsoever in there triumph, and as for scottish football i cannot remember the last scottish player that i wish lfc had signed ,probably davie cooper in the mid 80S
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised Siem de Jong's name has not been linked with Liverpool recently. Watching Ajax last season in the Champions League he was the one who really stood out as the goal threat from midfield; scoring 3 times agains MNC.
ReplyDeleteAdditionally I've seen Jorginho play, a very tidy passer and tackler, very similar to Lucas in his Brazil days. He is also by no means an alternative to Mkhitaryan, he is a replacement for the hole Shelvey and Spearing will leave in the squad; and will act primarily as competition for Henderson. Rodgers is a big fan of these versatile players who can cover multiple positions and I wouldn't be surprised if this deal goes through. I believe he wants to cut down the squad size to an elite 22 or 23 and then have academy players plugging any gaps.
ReplyDeleteLfc should go for luis Gustavo of bayern Munich,
ReplyDeleteHe always on bench. Maybe best defensive mid in world.
Him and Gerard with Lucas in middle will dominate.
nah we didnt go down without a fight :)
ReplyDeletelol southampton villa ad west brom twice nevermind oldham tells me different
ReplyDeleteI witnessed it! You two are like Terry and June lol!
ReplyDeleteI'd give Suso a chance over Insigne please!
ReplyDeleteWelcome back! How about Gundogan at Dortmund? With Sahin back there along with Kehl, Bender and now most likely HM - why not have a look at this guy as a CM/AM option? Might not have the strength, but technique, vision, pace, engine all there...
ReplyDeletehes first choise there along with bender... bender was injured now for a long time, but i cant see him leaving dortmund... more chance in bringing back sahin lol ;)
ReplyDeleteSahin is not a starter at Dortmund. When HM signs, it will even get worse. I see him leaving soon, unless some miracle happens. He isn't the player he was pre-Madrid
ReplyDeleteI can bet my money, Allen is going to silence a lot of people this season. That, I'm sure
ReplyDeleteSome off your best work jamie
ReplyDeleteThis is some bullsh!te if I ever heard it - not even my Arsenal mates are buying this one!
ReplyDeleteThats a shame believe the guy will be a real star in the future...so young and so much talent in such a difficult role in a tough league - I dunno then - why dont we just buy Wanyama and if we are so desperate for another AM then put in a cheeky bid for Honda? Creating chances and even scoring goals improved last year - we're like a retired pornstar - our top half looks exciting, young and fresh but in reality our back door needs firming up to address the unnecessary leakage..
ReplyDeleteFeel sorry for him til he tried to blame Rodgers for playing him in a withdrawn role - he should be grateful someone gave him the chance he wasnt getting at Madrid! He looked decent with us when he had time on ball... but was never a 'real' AM for me...more a CM that wasnt that keen on defending!
ReplyDeleteI'd rather take BR's £3m punt on Assaidi then KD's£20m punt on Downing - just compare youtube clips lol
ReplyDeleteLoool! Laughed and farted and think I Sharted!! just a question what would be wrong with a team of predominantly all left footers and the righties being the exception!?!
ReplyDeleteAHA AHA! (And all the ladies say he pretty fly for a white guy)
ReplyDeleteI hope we put a buyback clause in Carrols contract
ReplyDeleteGood shout..age might go against policy though..
ReplyDeleteAwwe :( you didn't miss me when I was gone Jase :)
ReplyDeletehonda for free ? yes please!
ReplyDeletewanyama is 10m i´d first go for diame to be honest.
dont get it too...
ReplyDeleteit would be nonsense. i cant see wenger trying to sign a player with the mixed-behaviour of a donkey and a canibal
ReplyDeleteid only consider villa to be powder puff stuff :P
ReplyDeleteYeah, Suso is doing really well ATM. I am saying he's obviously better than Jorgin-who we're linked to.
ReplyDeleteFrom what I saw it looks like his bald teammate would be a better target!!! From a creative point he outshines jorginho on his own highlight reel lol
ReplyDeletelol! Off topic just watching vids of Arangos goals for BM - just have to say I'd still have his 33 year old left foot now - magic...
ReplyDeleteI also expect Allen and Borini to shine, what do people want, they are football players not supermen, if a muscle/bone gets damaged it needs time to fix itself.
ReplyDeleteFrom what ive seen so far during BR's takeover,
Out of form players come to form,
Players that were considered over hyped and failed prospects come good,
Youth players get more of a blooding than years of watching Liverpool.
Amazing players play in a TEAM, the passing and movement of everyone has improved drastically.
Everything just looks more crisp and its all weaving together.
The players are feeling needed and everything is improving game after game,
WHAT DO PEOPLE WANT?
This is football there is no Rocky montage. TIME <-- Its all about time, apparently nobody has any
As for BR he's ahead of schedule for what hes creating and its you lot that have a problem over nothing. We need a couple of players and were ready, not even world class players just players that are good on the ball and can follow basic instructions, After all
Football is a simple game based on the giving and taking of passes, of controlling the ball and of making yourself available to receive a pass. It is terribly simple
yeah hes wonderful :)
