'We're interested' - Boss confirms 'gifted' €3m LFC star may leave 'in August'.

Last week, Dutch newspaper, Ronald Koeman confirmed that Feyenoord are definitely interested in signing Liverpool misfit Oussama Assaidi, and although he featured in the Reds' recent pre-season game against Preston, the end is most definitely nigh, and it looks like the Dutch giants are stepping up their interested in the Moroccan.

Speaking to reporters last Wednesday, Koeman said:

"I met Assaidi in Dubai and asked him about his situation.

"Feyenoord is interested in signing him, and I am charmed by his ability. He wants to play, and that makes sense.

"We know the will fit into our team. We'll see if it works"

In an interview today, Feyenoord chief Martin van Geel reiterated the club's interest in signing Assaidi, and hinted that the club is in talks with Liverpool over a possible loan deal. He told ELFVoetball:

"It is clear that we are interested [in Assaidi], but if we're to have a serious chance of success then probably it will be long into August. And then...Liverpool must still be willing to work with us."

Assaidi - who cost the Reds €3m last summer - is also linked with a move to Ajax, and prior to his move last summer, Frank De Boer made clear his disappointment at missing out on the winger. He told Voetball International:

"We never made it a secret that we were interested in him [Assaidi]. It's a pity he chose Liverpool, but he's gone to a very good club, and we could not compete with them"

I doubt Liverpool will fight hard to keep Assaidi, and if Feyenoord made a decent offer, it seems likely that Liverpool would accept. The sticking point seems to be the nature of the deal: Liverpool want a cash deal, whereas Feyenoord and Ajax want Assaidi on loan.

Either option would surely work at this stage? With the arrival of Aspas and Alberto, and the (possible) imminent arrival of other attacking players, Assaidi's pitch time will almost certainly be severely limited again next season, so there's no point in paying him to sit on the bench.

I think either a good deal, send him out on loan(hopefully shows his talents) would increase his value. :)

  2. I have the Same feelings With assaidi like with pacheco. both are skilled players without any doubt but there must be a reason they aren't out on the pitch ...either they don't perform in training or they have personal problems with BR. And for both ways there's only one solution, sell and run. I don't think we should blame anyone, because we have no idea what's going on exactly at the training ground ..

  4. Reina could be going on LOAN to Napoli, according to the rumour mill.

  6. Forget this. Loaning out Reina. After being told he's staying, which was a lie. Were balancing the books again. Until we give him to barcelona next season. Absolute joke

Who said we wanted him in the first place? All he did that for to get a pay increase out of villa :)

  10. It is not like any other teams signed him anyway.

  11. Didn't see anything I'd miss during the friendly game recently, ran into a couple of blind alleys. Let him go, we're overstocked in his position anyway.

looks like Reina was always going to go in a year's time anyway, that's £100k per week saved or £5m towards new signing to put in another way.

Glad to hear Rodgers confirming we had talked to Shaktar about Mhkitaryan after all, at least all those who said we never really tried can now see we did, we just lost out to a CL team, fair enough

  12. I'd rather keep him and sell him in January if Mignolet proves he can be number 1. A loan move now negates the purpose of Mignolet as "competition". Sell him for a good price, don't just give him out for free.

  13. I hope loaning Reina is helping the club to bring a player in from Napoli or this is just another dumb move when he could be sold and the money going towards world class talent.
I know its still early days but the anybody who currently thinks they have the team to make CL spots this season is fooling themselves.

  14. Don't really Assaidi; take the cash, apply it to acquiring a big name strike, defender or midfielder. sell Coates and Allen if we are lucky.

  15. I'd prefer to sell him now but I think he is content to wait for the Barca slot to open up when Valdes leaves at the end of the season. If they couldn't sell him because of this, I don't think the club had much choice as they can't force him to leave permanently. So I think it was either a case of keeping a big earning player who isn't a guaranteed starter anymore or get his wages off the books (or at least a good chunk of it) by putting him on loan. The club has been trimming the wage bill for a while in the non-CL era and the one position where you don't need two big earners is GK (though MIG is probably on considerably less). So I'm not all that surprised if that is how FSG saw things. Just didn't make much sense to me having two high profile keepers despite Rodger's PR waffle, not only because of rotating but also in terms of financial reasons, i.e., wages, under FSG. I back them in that regard, if that is the case. A non-CL club with no sugar daddy, having a 110k-a-week keeper sitting on the bench is somewhat financially needless.

Good move for Reina. No guarantee that Barca move will happen next summer for all we know but this way, it is still a possibility and at the same time, he doesn't jeopardize his WC squad place as he will be first choice keeper at Napoli, especially seeing how De Gea's reputation is growing.

  16. What if Mignolet flops? I'm not opposed to the sale of Reina at all, either this window or the next but we should definitely not loan him out. For greater security, keep him till January IMO.

If he goes on loan I have a feeling his price would go down, as then he's considered second choice and unwanted. Recently, we got rid of Maxi, Kuyt and Bellamy for practically nothing, despite all three of them being quality players. Reina has a good reputation despite declining recently, so we should ask for an acceptable fee now, or just wait a few months.

FSG should determine the range of transfer fees spent on players, as well as their pay packet. However, they should not determine Rodger's squad based on wages and who's earning what on the bench. I agree with what you're saying but it shouldn't be done like this.

If Mignolet is number 1, keep him performing with the threat of Reina, and then sell Reina in January.

  17. Ther is one problem which you have missed. Pepe will not move permanently to any other place but Spain. Barcelona want Reina but Valdes is seeing out the final year of his contract. If Reina sits on the bench at LFC then his value will drop. If we loan him to Napoli then he will play every game. Light bulb! Then next summer Pepe returns from Napoli, Valdes leaves Barcelona and Pepe replaces him.

What's more is that we will not have his wages to worry about for a year. The club signed Mignolet because they know Barcelona are coming for Reina once Valdes takes his things and leaves.

There is no point in holding back on Mignolet.

    ReplyDelete
  18. 'What if Mignolet flops?'

I see why you want Reina to stay but it is the nature of the beast, that it simply isn't the norm to have to have two high wage earning keepers at a club and it isn't all that normal to have two no.1-level keepers from a footballing perspective too. Both from a financial perspective and a footballing perspective, I can't criticize FSG for that as it isn't something strange. It is a risk but it isn't a risk that isn't the norm. Just the way it goes I guess. He may well flop but that is part and parcel of the game.

With keepers, for me anyway, it is best to have a clear no.1 and stick with them through thick & thin for a long period. I think Rodgers' has put his faith in Mignolet, so I don't think it is all FSG doing, as not many teams out there who have two no.1-level keepers of what we have/had. It isn't necessary. It just makes sense to get Reina off the books and use that wage to supplement a new first XI's wage. If that is Rodgers' thinking, I'd back that too, all the way.

Like Max said/implied below, Reina will be first choice keeper at Napoli and he'll be playing in CL. So, imo, more chance of his valuation doing better at Napoli then here. But either way, I have a feeling that the club won't be too stubborn over transfer fee with Barca because of Reina's service to the club.

  20. Wow dude, when i first heart about the rumor of loaning reina to napoli I had a bad feeling, wasn't happy with that situation. But after reading your posts I have to say you opened my mind, and now I have to agree - yes loaning him out to a CL club is probably the best way to increase his market value, while not paying his wages, after mignolets arrival it was obvious he will be sold anytime in the future and this may happen next year.

    ReplyDelete
  21. If it is made clear that Reina is no longer wanted or he is second choice, no club is going to match our true valuation of the player. I'm backing Mignolet, Reina has not been good enough during the last 2 seasons, but I'm just listing my concerns.

If the loan happens, he will just return and then request to leave when Barca come calling, and we won't get full price. This isn't a Carroll get out ASAP deal, we deserve a good price for Reina.

PS vote down wasn't me :P

    ReplyDelete
  22. another bare faced lie to the fans by the club just last week rodgers was stating mignolet was competition for reina ,when most fans knew already he would be shown the door,so just were have we strengthened our squad again this summer, nowhere like for like replacements with smaller wages

    ReplyDelete
  23. See but i struggle to understand what you are on about.

You talk about the price but what good will it do his price if he sits on our bench for a whole season at LFC?

    ReplyDelete
  24. If Reina sticks around he will get a game. I have a feeling Reina may even be number 1 initially, but as soon as he makes a mistake he will be dropped.

My point is that we should not make it abundantly clear that Reina is second choice, because nobody is going to pay up. Whether he is loaned out or he's on the bench for us, he's still second choice and the price is still effected.

    ReplyDelete
  25. But Barcelona are going to sign him in the next summer window so again i do not know what you are trying to get at. He wants to end his carreer in Spain so he will not go to another country. i hope you understand what I am trying explain to you?

I wouldn't be surprised if both Barcelona and LFC have agreed on a deal already hence us paying 9-11 million on Mignolet to replace Reina.

Valdes is leaving next summer. Reina is joing Barcelona when this happens.

What are you trying to get at?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Do not count you chickens before they hatch.

You are already seeing LFC's season as a failure even before it has started. I cannot wait for you to eat your words.

    ReplyDelete
  27. If Reina is second choice IMO his price will go down. I don't see why that is difficult to comprehend.

There is no guarantee of Barcelona signing Reina to replace Valdes. Sure, there may be several things which suggest it, but certainly no guarantee.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I agree with you. Firstly the fans were misled, when told about the competition rubbish. We knew that was lies. Secondly, Napoli have 55 million to spend. We should be selling him. Not doing them a favour, by loaning him. I don't care about this Barcelona next year rubbish. Liverpool should be getting 10 million right now, what is going on?

    ReplyDelete
  29. So if it is not difficult for you to comprehend that Reina's price would go down if he was second choice at LFC then why are you arguing about his price?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Have you ever though that Reina does not want a permanent move to Italy?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Are Liverpool at the beckon call of Barcelona? If he can join Napoli on loan, he can join permanently also. Get the best deal for Liverpool. What do you make of the misleading information from Liverpool, when told we will keep both keepers for competition? Aparently according to rodgers this was discussed over a nice meal between himself and Reina? No mention then of saving on wages.

    ReplyDelete
  32. But what if Reina does not want a permanent move to Italy?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Because you seem to believe that we will receive a good price for Reina simply because we spent around 10m on Mignolet and Valdes is leaving Barcelona next year.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Regardless if Reina wants a move to Italy permanently, it's a good deal to send him out on loan at Napoli this season. It's a good thing for both LFC and Reina. It's rather obvious the club brought Mignolet in as replacement for Reina, not for that crap 'competition' they mentioned. Send Reina out on loan now can save us 110k per week till next season, while Reina can continue playing at the highest level till he joins Barcelona next season or simply, any interested club he fancies there and then. It's the Champions League I'm talking about, the highest level. He will definitely stand a higher chance making his national team playing in the Champions League for Napoli than sitting on the bench for us. If we play him as no.1 this season, then Mignolet's early arrival will be meaningless. If we start Mignolet ahead of Reina, I think it's rather ungrateful to bench a player that is loyal and has given his best to the club. So the best scenario is to send Reina out on loan to Napoli, my 2 cents of course.

    ReplyDelete
  35. But I did not say anything about whether we would get a good price for Reina.

All I have been trying to explain to you and you can go and read each and every post I have replied to you with is that Reina's price will go down if he is second choice at LFC and that we have signed Mignolet because Reina will be leaving.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Amen. Some people will still disagree though as what you have just written is what I have been repeating in every post I have made about Reina.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Lets base this argument on facts. Liverpool said after a cosy up meal, Reina was happy with competition. They bought mignolet for competion to Reina. Now according to some people, we have to help Reina get into the Spain squad ahead of getting a good transfer fee? What about mignolet now? His level will drop off because he's hardly going to be scared of Jones. So based on information from Liverpool, so far. Have we been mislead?

    ReplyDelete
  38. and why will i eat my words .i hope we do well ,but the fact is we are fed lies

    ReplyDelete
  39. Like for like? Is mignolet as established as Reina? Don't think so. Its definetley a case of saving on wages. Its just the misleading info from the club that irritates. They just need to be honest. They have made Rodgers comments look silly. Also apparently Rodgers has just said that shaktar gave permission to liverpool to speak to what's his name, but he was already joining Dortmund. Why didn't Liverpool bid in may/june? Its always bidding after the fact. Which makes you believe, they never had the intention to buy in the first place.

    ReplyDelete
  40. totally agree m8 i think they mite try chucking in a cheeky 1million bid for messi ,barca will never except it but we bid lol

    ReplyDelete
  41. His price will go down if he stays at LFC? Did I not argue that point?

    ReplyDelete
  42. But what if he doesn't want to join Napoli on a permanent? Takes three parties to make a move, not just and Napoli.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Not sure if that Spain comment is aimed at me or not but just to clarify, I haven't said we are intentionally trying to help Reina keep his place in the Spain squad by doing this.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Loaning him out is the best thing we can do at the moment and see if it increases his transfer value.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I mean let's be practical, my friend, even Man Utd, Man City and Chelsea don't practice keeping 2 top keepers for 'competition'. I don't see why LFC needs to be so unique. You really believe the report saying Reina was happy with competition? Seriously speaking, we have always been one of the top defensive side in EPL, with or without competition for Reina. Even in our very worst season 2011-12, we were joint 3rd for goals conceded and season 2012-13 joint 5th, with Reina keeping 14 clean sheets in all. No disrespect but I don't understand a little bit about your logic and argument about competition for our goalie. I would rather believe Reina is looking for new challenge and will have no qualms in joining the arguably best team in Europe, Barcelona, when the chance came knocking. LFC is fully aware of that and they does not want to and cannot stop him from leaving. So, this Mignolet guy came into picture.

Come on, why must we help Reina get into his national team to 'raise' his selling price? I firmly believe the price difference between Reina being in and out of his national team will only be a fraction of the loss we made for selling AC. What's the big deal there? Again I would love to believe LFC has the best interest for both parties when they agree to send Reina out on loan to Napoli, a club in the Champions League and coached by the mentor of Reina, RB. Sorry that I prefer to look at the brighter side of human nature so I would very much want to believe the top management of LFC is grateful to Reina for his loyalty and good performances over the years.

  46. De gea + Lindegaard and Cech + schwartzer?

Liverpool can't afford Reinas wages. that is the be all +end all. Your breakdown on stats is irrelivant. I want Liverpool to be great again, but its sad when, the manager is being told a player can't sit on the bench, on 100k+.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Lindegaard is rubbish no.1 material. He joined Man United in 2010 and he is 29 now. Before Man United, he wasn't even barely known outside of his country. Just because he plays for them, doesn't mean he is that good. They signed Bebe and Obertan. A handful caps don't mean much. Brad Jones has a few caps and he is rubbish no.1 material.

Schwarzer is a good example though, though like Cudini (went from Chelsea to Spurs), he finds life in London very comfortable, so why not go for a big last pay packet across the road without the upheaval of moving family.
