Kolo Toure officially signed his contract with Liverpool today, and two of the defender's former Manchester City team-mates are convinced that the Ivorian will be an excellent signing for the Reds.
After signing a 2-year deal with the club Toure told Liverpoolfc.com:
"This means a lot to me. Firstly, I'm joining one of the best clubs in England.
"When I left City it was important for me to stay in England because it's the best league - and to join Liverpool is massive for me.
"I chose Liverpool because of the history and because of the spirit of the team and the people here."
Speaking to LFC TV a few days ago, Gareth Barry and Joleon Lescott heaped praise on Toure, and predicted that he would be an 'astute' signing for the Reds. Barry - a Liverpool target during Rafa Benitez's reign - enthused:
"Kolo will be a great signing. He will always give 100 per cent, he will never give up. Kolo will win over the fans straight away. Losing Jamie Carragher will be a huge loss, but with his experience and his work-rate, Kolo will do a good job of replacing him."
Lescott added:
"He's energetic, he's full of life and he's always smiling every day in training. I know he's a good player - he's quick, he reads the game well and he's a leader. You can't replace Jamie Carragher but that will be as close as you're going to get."
Toure will wear the number four shirt next season. Welcome to Anfield!

Welcome, great move by BR, but still needs another defender...
ReplyDeleteWe needed a bit of pace at CB, he has won 2 titles in England as Captain...........nuff said!!!
ReplyDeletegood stopgap ,hope hes not our major defensive signing
ReplyDeletehe is worth every penny we pay for him as long as the diet pills are kept away from him :P
ReplyDeleteWe best hope not anyway.
ReplyDeletei think he will be alright short term ,but imo we need to get the next man in now
ReplyDeleteanyone got any good soure for match tickets v manure,if not what price of a tout
ReplyDeleteHe is far better than Skrtel
ReplyDeletegreat signing this one. Way better than people give him credit for and a perfect replacement for Carra, who isn`t easy to replace.
ReplyDeleteHe used to be.
ReplyDeleteNot so anymore.
Carra kept Skrtel out of the first team. Kolo is younger than Carra and a lot quicker so i want to see Skrtel getting in ahead of Toure.
ReplyDeleteDo not make me laugh...
We may bring another defender in to take Skrtel's place and Skrtel may even be sold.
ReplyDeleteI'd be surprised though if Toure starts over a healthy Skrtel.
We shall see.
Yes we will.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely right 3 years younger and a lot quicker.
ReplyDeleteSilly money bud!!!
ReplyDeletegreat signing as a squad player- def can do a job when needed. Still like to see another defensive signing to be a regular alongside Agger
ReplyDeletep.s. i love his goal celebrations when he scores- he goes nuts!!!
Last time a tout offered me a ticket at Anfield the asking price was 100 Pounds, but it was against a much lesser team.
ReplyDeleteskrtel was good the season before maybe its rodgers none defensive tacticts
ReplyDeleteso is the clubs packages and i cannot get one of them unless i buy for a lesser game anyway
ReplyDeletewould be willing to go to £300 for a pair
ReplyDeleteAlderweireld 's price seems to have dropped, and with Dortmund seemingly baulking at £9m , we should just sort it out now. Shelvey and Spearing/Ince will account for that low a fee
ReplyDeleteWhat a daft comment.
ReplyDelete2011/2012 we conceded 40 goals.
2012/2013 we conceded 43 goals.
None defensive tactics?
Our defence improved when Rodgers replaced Skrtel with Carra.
One thing I could see though is Kelly starting over Skrtel at CB.
ReplyDeleteYou might get the for that, but not from me as I'm not a tout.
ReplyDeleteAre you spending the money you don't have to spend on kits for your kids?
BTW, a friend once told me that they sell tickets between them on another forum. It's quite some time ago, so I don't know whether they still do it, and whether you'd stand a chance of getting one for that game, but I think it was on TIA.
cheers i may check it out
ReplyDeleteGood signing. I'd say he'll push for a regular starting spot, and deservedly so. If he trains well and fits into the team, organises the defence - that's exactly what we were looking for to replace JC. JC held down that spot for the second half of last season so I don't see why Toure can't do the same.
ReplyDeleteIf Skrtel stays then I don't think we'll be making the big centre back signing we'd imagined. No serious talk of Coates leaving yet, Skrtel and Agger still here, Toure a potential starter ... that's a full boat. Rodgers talks about wanting another defensive signing but if that's someone like Ilori then he's another future prospect, not an immediate starter.
