Game On: £12m maestro claims LFC transfer is 'developing'. Anfield-bound...?

Last week, multiple sources claimed that Liverpool are interested in signing Sevilla star Ivan Rakitic, and it seems like the Croatian midfielder could be open to an Anfield move this summer.

According to Sky Sports last week:

"Ivan Rakitic, a rumoured target of Liverpool, has long been linked with a move to England and...Brendan Rodgers is showing a real interest".

When last night about speculation linking him with a summer transfer to Anfield, Rakitic told 24 Sata:

"It fills me with pride to be linked with a big club like Liverpool. Something is developing, but at the moment there is nothing concrete.

"My brother, who takes care of my career, is doing everything possible for my future. All I can repeat is that I will stay at Sevilla only if the team will be reinforced"

This echoes Rakitic's comments from last week, when he told Sportske Novosti:

"The situation at Sevilla is not attractive. The club have asked me to say on. I told them that I want to see what they have done in terms of signings. We will see what happens in the summer."

Rakitic can play as a deep lying playmaker, attacking midfielder, and if needed, a defensive midfielder, and if Rodgers really is interested in the Croatian, then he'll bring quality and depth to the squad, and provide serious competition for both Joe Allen and Jordan Henderson.

£12m-rated Rakitic is under contract at Sevilla until 2015. Worth a bid, or should the money be used for other areas of the team...?

  1. he reresents better value for money than eriksen experience wise only problem is age ......but if he is coming at the expense of mhiktaryan i wouldnt say this a good deal ........mhiktaryan will instill a better fear factor than rakitic also he is faster

  2. lucas's day's are numbered imo. Henderson is cannon fodder too. Joe allen and steve g are going to play but i think we'll see a fair amt of new faces coming in. Selling Luis could be a blessing if the money is used wisely.
Since williams, i like all the names being linked with us.
alberto, rakitic, aspas, papa, the armenian. all astute signings imo.

Mkhitaryan will be our main target. Ratkic will be a backup or smokescreen at best.

  6. People saying they would rahter have Henrikh need to realise ideally they play in different positions. Henrikh is far more attacking and if in mid would be the AM, if not in mid maybe the striker/second striker or winger. This guy would play in the role behind that, ala Gerrards position. Yes he can play as a AM, but I very much doubt he would be brought in for that role.

  8. Good player Aspas, he created/scored 51% of Celta Vigo's goals last season on his own, the season before he won the Segunda Division golden boot with 23 goals. Very similar to Craig Bellamy in every way, bit of lad by all accounts!!!

  9. Rather us sign Mkhitaryan by a clear mile he is exceptional

  10. Have you been watching the games my friend? None of these people are leaving except Luis if he wants to. Rodgers knows what Allen is all about and he will try to fit him in, if not why buy him? He's changed a little bit of his style compared to Swansea probably to accommodate players like Enrique and gerrard who can play the long balls. We started mixing direct and possession play which IMO is better than just possession for first half of season (bayern proved they can destroy barca when they only have one style). Allen played well at the start and started to burn out and had the shoulder injury which affected him, plus he moved from Swansea to one of the biggest clubs in the league definitely the pressure is on him. Give him a bit more time, he might prove to be a better player, I remember he was also praised for his team GB performance.

  12. I hope we get Mkhitaryan, I've already thought out a good nickname for him " Henrikh The Armenian Assassin" if Luis stays we have the killer strike combo of the gun slinger & the assassin. The type that really represent Liverpool City itself

  13. good lord, we can't buy someone for the sake of a good nickname..

  14. since when did 25 year old signing become a problem?

    ReplyDelete
  15. Seriously Chirag? Of course that's not what I want from the club I supported since I was a teen. I want us to get Messi if we could. But at our current situation the Armenian guy looks like he'll a good fit for our current squad yadi yadi yada....get my drift?

  16. got it...but I am not sure about the guy. Haven't seen him play ...mostly youtube...

  17. well since rodgers took over :P now days in most eyes young is 22- ...... and 25 is touching peak :P

  18. well we do have connor coady so id give him a chance for defense mid and would rather go for henrik .....you see (IMO) henrik gives us a whole new dimension attack wise .....whereas rakitic seems to be more of i can do this and that too

  19. i guess u will nickname aspas "the spanish sniper" ? :P

  20. Honestly me too he's valued at 20 pound and highly rated....I don't usually subscribe to club paying big for players. I like BR philosophy of not wanting to pay over the odds for players. I hope he sticks to the same philosophy

  21. Whatever I find from him in Youtube, he always plays as a number 10. In which case I would also prefer we sign Mkhitaryan. If he can really play in Lucas and Allen's position then fine but to be honest I hope and expect that Allen can really step up this season and make that holding midfielder position his own.

  22. Well there is no way on earth this player will take Liverpool to the top 4 a mid range club player who should stay at Seville.
The likes of Erikson and Mkhitaryan are far better value and both can be top class.

  23. I want Rakitic only for DM purpose and providing competition and cover there. Please not at the expense of Mkhitaryan. I know not a single LFC fan would say drop Mkhitaryan and if anyone has any doubt over his quality please go and watch the Armenia Vs Denmark in which Armenia have scored 4 goals and see Mkhitaryan there ;).

  24. the main reason i dont want rakitic we have allen.....

  25. Lots of you are getting very excited by transfer "paper talk" gossip, ultimately you will be very disappointed.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Well let us get excited for the time being. Who knows if these players do end with LFC this summer and it comes out to be an excitement for a genuine reason. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  27. I don't understand why you want to get excited about unrealistic targets? You might as well get excited as I heard Messi will be joining us this summer as he tries and escapes the tax scandal in spain, true story

    ReplyDelete
  28. but what im saying is he is neither, there is also a mid spot between DM and AM which is where he plays.

    ReplyDelete
  29. well dont we have hendo and allen for that ?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Hendo seems to be played in the AM role more now and Gerrard is in that role. Hendo can play that role tho and Allen like you said, but I`m all for improving, as neither Hendo or Allen are good enough just yet imo.

    ReplyDelete
  31. hendo is ready imo ....... and i see allen as a lucas type player dont really fancy him leading attack

    ReplyDelete
  32. fair dues, I just dont think in the league Hendo is the best in his position, and I want players who are the best, not just able or might be in a few years time. I do like Hendo, and do think he will be a good player, but right now Gerrard is still better than him so I would pick him above that.

    ReplyDelete
  33. yeah but for some reason rodgers wants him dropping deep

  34. luis alberto deal done apparently
