€13m Price Crash: LFC in talks to sign ex-Barca star worth €18m a year ago

In May last year, the Agent of Liverpool target Manuel Agudo Durán - aka Nolito - confirmed that Liverpool were interested in signing the Spanish star, and reports this week suggest that the Reds are back in for the ex-Barcelona midfielder.

Speaking to TSF, Oscar Font - Nolito's Agent - said:

"Clubs like Valencia and Liverpool are interested in him but there are still no concrete proposals."

According to Portuguese newspaper O Jogo this week, Liverpool are monitoring Nolito's situation, and Jornal Record further reports that:

* Liverpool have opened talks with Benfica re a possible transfer.
* Benfica are willing to sell Nolito for a knockdown price of €5m.

When Liverpool were interested last summer, Nolito had an €18m price tag on his head, so if the club can grab a €13m discount, it will be good business all round.

Nolito is clearly not wanted at Benfica. The club farmed him out on loan to La Liga side Granada during the January transfer window, and the Spanish club have an option to buy this summer. In his first match, Nolito took the corner which resulted in Cristiano Ronaldo's own goal for the game's only, giving Granada the first win over Real Madrid in 40 years.

Nolito is hardly a prolific goalscorer though, and in the last two years, he's grabbed just 16 goals in 63 games for Benfica.

The Spaniard is probably a back-up option if Rodgers' first choice targets fall through, but after seeing his career stall over the last year, it could turn out to be shrewd move for the Reds, especially if Nolito feels he has something to prove.
