In May, Liverpool reportedly held talks with Lille over the potential summer signing of coveted left-back Lucas Digne. The Reds continue to be linked with a move for the 19-year old, and Lyon's deputy director has now confirmed that the Ligue One club is open to offers.
Last month, The Mirror claimed:
"Liverpool have held talks over signing teenage French defender Lucas Digne.
"Brendan Rodgers has identified the youngster as a key signing this summer".
Discussing £10m-rated Digne's situation last night, Lille deputy director general Frederic Pacquet conceded that no offers had come in yet for the £8m-rated youngster, but confirmed that he is definitely for sale. He told Radio Monte Carlo:
"We are listening and if there is an offer which corresponds to his market value, we will think about it. In the end, Lille must benefit."
Digne's current deal ends in 2016, and when asked in March about speculation linking him with a summer move away, the youngster displayed a refreshing realistic attitude. He told reporters:
"I hear I am one of the most promising full-backs, but what does it mean? How many players were promising and what did they do then? Leaving Lille? It is the club where I have been educated, and I am very fine here. We will see".
Jose Enrique is Liverpool's only senior left-back at the moment, so it would be beneficial to have some quality cover in that area. Having said that, Glen Johnson can play there, and Jack Robinson has potential, so is it really a priority position this summer?

jack robinson is 19 too ....johno can lb too and we have wisdom and kelly for rb cover .........that 10 m would be better spent elsewhere like cb for example
ReplyDeleteSmart kid, what would he gain by leaving Lille now? Anyway, with Monaco and PSG also interested, it's going to be a lot more difficult getting the best French players to the Premiership that early in their careers imo. Shame though, he seems like a player but I think there are too many obstacles here for us to overcome. Aly Cissokho would probably be more likely to sign and he's only 24 or so himself. Georgi Schennikov at CSKA Moscow is not bad either. Alex Sandro at Porto and Konstantin Rausch at Hannover too but I think Rausch just signed for Stuttgart
ReplyDeleteflanagan can play LB too
ReplyDeletewould be another completely needless transfer,in afew years time when the school leaving age goes up in this country we will have to build a school never mind doing the stadium
ReplyDeleteNot very well though!
ReplyDeleteBlame it on Skrtel...
ReplyDeleteis that a 'thing'?? ;)
ReplyDeletei completely forgot ryan mclaughin .......if reports are anything to go by rodgers loves nd i can see him vying for the rb spot ahead of wisdom
ReplyDeleteraush should have been our priority :( ......i can see him making the german squad soon
ReplyDeleteThat's quite witty JC , but remember, Utd's dominance was based on a group of young players who grew together at the club...
ReplyDeleteours are not growing together ours are bought, and we have been trying to buy the next big thing for years, with zero success
ReplyDeleteWell thank God he's at Stuttgart which means he's bound to move on in some years time still. Although we may not be interested then because he'll cost more than 2 million and he'll have played more than 10 games.
ReplyDeleteYes, just ignore the purchase of Coutinho, who is arguably a de facto 'next big thing', and he's proved that already. Your failure to acknowledge the Coutinho purchase just shows that you're being negative for the hell of it.
ReplyDeleteAdditionally, the likes of Suso, Sterling, Wisdom et al *are* growing together. They weren't just bought yesterday; they've been together for several years.
jaimie coutinho was bought for big money if you take is age into account and as for the others you mention i only see wisdom with a chance of a future at anfield(hope i am wrong)but evry few years we get told we have the next big thing eg pacheco, and what happens nothing, also if we have such a good youth team how comes they did not win the youth cup and were poor in the next gen games, you would have thought with the amount of money we spend on potential ,we would be doing very well in the next gen
ReplyDeleteAgree with u JC about next gen cup !
ReplyDeletei judge coutinho on coming season !
cant argue he had a super impact for us (half season) but i think real challenge were just begin. Now other coaches know what he capable and will try to come up "something" to prevent that happen. IF COUTINHO MANAGE DEAL WITH IT THEN HE IS REAL BIG THING.....so far i felt some ppl just praised him too early...
i think coutinho will cut the mustard he looks class
ReplyDeleteThere's obviously Coutinho, who made an instant impact and will still develop, that is clear. However I agree with JC for the most part because the United players that Mike was referring to were the likes of Giggs, Beckham, Scholes and Neville, a golden generation of home grown talent.
ReplyDeleteCompare the potential development, impact and success of players such as Spearing and Kelly, and more recent players such as Wisdom, Suso and Sterling, and unfortunately it wont come close. There has never been enough stability in the club to maintain such a long term vision.
So I believe we have some basis for questioning the success of our youth systems. Players like Sergi Canos are on big bucks compared to their current impact on the team.
Coutinho had the experience of being at Inter Milan for almost three years. Additionally he had a loan spell in La Liga. We do tend buy those 16 year old, "next big thing" players though which JC is talking about, and Sergi Canos is the latest one.
'Jack Robinson has potential'? You can't have watched the same games as I have that he's played in!
ReplyDeleteagree m8 he has potential but would you put your life on him being a lfc regular for seasons to come
ReplyDeleterecently there an article about Barca yelling about British club ruined the euro young talent. Our academy indeed do a good job (not the great). Lot of young player loaned to DIV 1 had a good season there. But demanding them break into TOP 4 (hi exception) is just need a little bit more touch up from BR.
ReplyDeleteyeah with his recent hair cut look more likely than b4
ReplyDeleteon another subject ,just been checking our signings since fsg took over
ReplyDeleteseason 10/11 under hodgeson and later kenny, spent 80.4 million sold 85.6 million £5.1 million profit
season 11/12 under the king cup finals european football
spent56.4 sold 21.1 net spend£35.3 million
season 12/13
spent48.8 sold 8million net spend40.8
rodgers as had the biggest net spend in the last 3 years and dose our league position and poor cup runs justify it
76million over 3 years huge dropp in the wage bill masive upturn in sponsership fsg weres our money
If you got those figures from transfermarkt, they're inaccurate, and do not reflect the actual figures in the club's accounts. Those figures are media estimates, not reality.
ReplyDeletecannot remember the site but they looked pritty accurate to me still begs the ?as rodgers been worth the money and weres all the clubs income going
ReplyDeletethen we pay there wages for a few years and then they move on for a small fee if any
ReplyDeleteIf we aim to continue to flounder about in mid-table he's got a pretty good chance!
ReplyDeleteharsh but maybe true who knows
ReplyDeletemaybe messi,s dad as been doing our accounts;-)
ReplyDeleteOverrated IMO and Robinson too.
ReplyDeletecome on...!! they are too inexperience and young to be rated....let alone overrated. I would like to see each academy player get at least 5 league games before passing a judgement. yes, that seems impossible.
ReplyDelete10/11 figures can only count from Janaury, they wasn't in charge in the summer window, they took over in October, also there also agent fees to be paid which are high, also your figures are pretty high for a team WITHOUT CL., and poor cup run We played kids and reserves because our squad was so small. FSG are business men, they run liverpool properly. also "FSG where's our money" it's there money at end of the day in which most goes into the team.
ReplyDeleteI think we don't need him atm. There are enough players to play and cover that position. Let us just save it for other positions.
