Gerard Deulofeu: LFC to contact Barcelona over unhappy £29m attacker

Last summer, Spanish newspaper AS claimed that Liverpool put in a £7.5m bid for Barcelona starlet Gerard Deulofeu, and after struggling to break into Barca's first team, the young attacker recently admitted defeat in his quest to make it at the Nou Camp. Well, it appears that the Reds are back in for the exciting Spanish prospect.

According to Spanish newspaper Sport today:

"Liverpool have been in contact with the club to inquire about the transfer of Deulofeu for next season.

"Barcelona are willing to let him go out on loan"

The signing of Brazilian star Neymar means Deulofeu will be pushed even further down the pecking order, and when asked about his future last week, the Spaniard made it clear that he is willing to go out on loan. He told reporters:

“It [a summer transfer] is possible. I look at the first team, but it is complicated. I’ll talk to the club and see what the best decision is. If I leave on loan I can earn minutes playing for another club and follow my professional dream.”

Deulofeu recently signed a new contract with Barcelona, and the club upped his €8m buyout clause to €35m (£29m). With that in mind, it seems strange that less than a month later, he's actively considering leaving the club.

In mid-June, Barcelona-based newspaper Mundo Deportivo, reported that Catalan club had transfer-listed THIRTEEN players with a combined transfer value of €178m, and Deulofeu is one of those players on the sell-list.

If Rodgers wanted Deulofeu last summer, it's conceivable that he may still be interested, and a loan deal to bolster Liverpool's squad could be a good move.

Deulofeu grabbed 18 goals in 27 appearances for Barcelona B last season, and with the deal for Henrikh Mikhtaryan looking increasingly unlikely, could he be viable option?

  1. loans with an option to buy at an agreed price are ok ,otherwise they are a waste of time ,we mite as well give some of the potential we have already signed game time

  2. forget about deuloefu..last week itself we had bid rejected for mkhiaryan..confirmed by shakthar coach..

“As you know, Liverpool and Shakhtar are holding talks with respect to Mkhitaryan’s transfer. Henrikh wants to leave. The English offered Shakhtar the compensation payment that is stipulated in Mkhitaryan’s contract, but they were turned down. Let’s see what the future will hold.

welcome back JK...good had holiday recharge bring us MORE news

  8. They will need to bring another quality attacking player in as Suarez looks as good as gone and Mkhitaryan well i wonder if they really ever wanted him.
Deulofeu i dont think is an option they really need a proven player and if they are to look at more young talent then it needs to be permanent.
Also what has happened with Tello thats gone quiet on that one.

  9. i see aspas as been handed the number 9 shirt, doubt we will be getting a major striker signed even if suarez goes, also wonder who will get the number 7 shirt can garauntee it will be no king kenny;-)

  10. i think we need to get the henrik ty something something and ashley williams and call it a day.......delofue and alberto luis need 2 more years ..honestly.

  11. Welcome back Jaimie!!

a loan deal for delofeu would be foolish and nonsense. We have enough potentials at the club, we can use them. were after mkhitaryan because we want someone with eperience whos proven on a good level. i personally think a solution could be Ivan Rakitic, the guy from sevilla...

  12. and get benteke if suarez should be sold.

  13. off topic. but in the last few days we heard a lot about the outgoings.
    Downing Shelvey and henderson.
    would you sell these 3?
    Downing for 7m is a non-brainer IMO
not sure about shelvey but i cant see him staying here, think his future lies elsewhere.
Keeping Hendo is very important i think, he´s been a good performer last year and improved pretty much, if he carries on that good work theres no reason to sell him!

  14. if rodgers gets rid of henderson and keeps some of the players we have at the club i will lose all confidence in rodgers completely ,downing at 7million is cheap when you look at what a very average player costs, shelvey is the tricky one he could come back to haunt us,i would loan him out for the season and see what happens

  15. I wouldn't mind seeing how Shelvey develops but to me he looks too slow and stiff. I look back at the West Ham away game and I remember him putting in a good shift in an unfamiliar position (striker). But apart from that I think he let Rodgers down, because Shelvey was in the first team at the start of the season and didn't repay the faith BR had in him.

I'd also take 10m for Downing, but I don't believe any club would match that price. Do you honestly believe that Downing and Allen are on any clubs wish list? Maybe at a massively reduced price. Same with Shelvey, we'd get 5m max, when you'd think he could go for at least 10m.

    ReplyDelete
  16. i would give shelvey till the next transfer window downing 10million is more like it and allen ,will get every chance and then some to try and justify his place in the team

Sell downing, and Jonjo. Keep hendo... :-)

  18. Downing: Played better last season, but his end product is still not good enough. 2 goals/4 assists in the final 24 games of the season = not good enough for a massively experienced attacker in the prime of his career.

Shelvey: A decent player, but I can't see where he's going to fit in long-term. He's young, but I haven't seen much to suggest he can replace Gerrard, and he's not going to get enough game time over the next 2 years to develop into that role.

Henderson: I'd keep him as a squad player, but if he plays well then he should remain in the first team on merit. It's important to retain a British core to the team, and with Carra gone, getting rids of Downing, Shelvey and Hendo - all Brits - would be counter-productive (IMO).

  19. Shakhtar have last week confirmed (their general manager), that they have no contact with Liverpool at all. How that translates into "Liverpool have made a bid" is beyond me.

    ReplyDelete
  20. give him one more season jason, i just hope BR gives both (Henderson and Allen) the same chances. both of them should fight for their place! (probably with a few new players ;) )

    ReplyDelete
  21. Things have changed today re Mkhitaryan. I'll be posting an article soon outlining the newest developments.

    ReplyDelete
  22. If theres any player that should leave Jay spearing tops the list.I thnk Shelvey should leave,he will never make it at liverpool but can def make it else where, then downing should stay we need more expirience in the team.Apparently i see henderson replacing Lucas Leiva in the team this season and Allen plus borini are going to shock you.

    ReplyDelete
  23. youre absolutely how i feel about it.

im just dont know where shelvey could fit in. his effort is right but i´m not so sure about his potential. 7-8m would be a good deal for us.

Henderson is a good backup player, because hes able to play in all of our 3 midfield positions, if he carries on that good form he should be a regular and not allen. but as rodgers says competition is needed, so i dont see any point in selling him!

what do you think about wanyama? is 10m for him overpriced?
who do you think we should buy for AM if we cant get Mkhirtayan?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Mr. Point Of View1:52 pm, June 27, 2013

best ideal is to get rid all 3 replace new blood...since that not an options i would say get rid Lucas instead if we had to !

IF BR still play stevie more on DM role then Shelvey will had his chances as a AM (sub for Coutinho)

IF BR play stevie back on his AM role then Hendo will had his chances for sub those injured prone

hmmm downing case (under those new signing) i think he need to buy a better cushion at bench ! his token to revive LFC career is almost finish (i vote he is most improve player last season hehehe but still he not up to standard)

Could it be true that if borussia sign mkhitaryan then we're in for eriksen and vice versa?

  26. Well said.

No one wants another Sahin situation.

  27. The story changes every day and depending on what media outlet you're reading. There are those who only like to report negatively about LFC so they'll spin anything they can to discourage our supporters. Last week's Facebook post story is a perfect example. So the guy says people should shush until a deal is finalised and immediately it turns into he doesn't want to come. Personally I don't care too much until I read something about a deal in the Echo, the BBC or a European newspaper. Although I have to admit the mere rumour of us signing Mkitharyan made me wish it were true.

    ReplyDelete
  28. If Suarez leaves, if he does, BR better have something more than just Mkitahryan in store for us. First of all positionwise he is not a replacement for Suarez and if 55 million is made on sales of Suarez and Carrol, spending 25 million on Henrikh and some 20 million on the other four just won't cut it. There would be plenty areas left that can do with a bit of a boost.

    ReplyDelete
  29. In terms of ability/potential, Wanyama is probably worth 10m, but looking purely at market expectations, 10m for an SPL player with no real experience is arguably slightly overpriced. I wouldn't have a problem if LFC paid that amount though; the club needs a different type of central midfielder.

Agree with you re Allen - Hendo simply offers more to the team. Allen is good at passing and keeping the ball, but that's about it. That is not enough to justify a regular place in the team (IMO)

If the Mkhitaryan deal falls through, Keisuke Honda would be a good shout. If Juan Mata is really on the way out of Chelsea then he'd be a great signing (though probably unrealistic); Eriksen is an option, but he's inexperienced. Others: Mesut Ozil; Thomas Mueller; Gourcuff; Diego; Alcantara; Di Maria; Lamela; Menez; Michu.

  30. Selling Downing back to Villa for 7 million would add insult to injury imo. Anyone else could have him for 7 million for all I care but not Villa. If they felt he was worth 20 million two years ago, he should be worth at least half that now. Shelvey I'd keep but I'm pretty sure he wants to leave himself. If that's the case, 5 million would be good money but I would think it's a shame though. The boy has an exceptional eye for a pass and plenty of fight in him. I honestly believe he is as good as Gerrard was at that age.Except, Gerrard didn't have Gerrard ahead of him. He only had to displace sicknote Redknapp. Henderson I'd definitely keep. He actually did improve a lot from last year and he's still young enough. You forgot about Spearing by the way who would be yet another Englishman leaving the club.

    ReplyDelete
  31. But you're assuming that they felt Downing was worth 20m two years ago. Perhaps they felt he was really worth 15m but held out for more and we overpaid.

    ReplyDelete
  32. it also gives the loan player a chance of a way out ,if he wants to take that chance

    ReplyDelete
  33. imo henderson fought for his place last season ,allen as to do it this season

    ReplyDelete
  34. now theres an idea we could have a word with dortmond and see who they want and we can sign the scaps ,lets forget about who they want and concentrit on who we want,by the way i would be happy with either;-)

    ReplyDelete
  35. Well Suarez is gone dont worry about that and no where did i write that Deulofeu would replace Suarez Eric in actual fact i wrote he is not an option also dont count on Myktharyan coming either.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Allen needs to upgrade his game style, IMO no doubt he's a good footballer...

Many good footballers here you mentioned, but there are only a few who would really join us:...
müller, özil, di maria are players who play regular at the world's best teams. thiago alcantara is ManU bound. Menez and Diego are players you just don't want at your club, in terms of behaviour...
Mata would be wonderfully but to expensive so as you said extremely unlikely...
Agree eriksen is inexperienced but he could be a solution. I haven't seen much about lamela, neither off gourcuff (are these two good enough?) michu would be great! And Ivan rakitic from sevilla could be worth a try too, but its been a while now I saw him play for the last time...

    ReplyDelete
  37. To make an agreement with Barcelona on a loan of Delofeu and why not Thiago, even without an option to buy at an agreed price, might not bee such a bad option. If Liverpool by this is able to strengthen their squad enough to make it into the top 4, it would be much more easy next
year to buy top players with the prospect of CH L play. And the money the club saves could be used to buy a couple of high quality defensive players. For Barca too this could be a good option. I doubt that they would want to sell Delofeu and Thiago, but both players wants first team football experience. Liverpool can offer them that. Hence it could very well be a win win deal for both clubs.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Only if we can buy him at the end of the loan period and no buy back option should be left for Barcelona so that they can get him at a reduced at a low price.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Seems Mkhiataryan is in a London hotel to take lessons from or indeed buy Odemwingie's satnav before heading to Liverpool ahead of getting permission from his parent club. Hopefully Suarez doesn't grab that satnav off Mkhiataryan and head to Madrid before Liverpool give him permision.

    ReplyDelete
  40. sign him or forget him, give Suso a chance instead!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Spearing, Pacheco,Downing,Shelvey, and Brad Jones should all be sold they are either not good enough or never going to make it at Liverpool, get what we can for them and give players like Yesil, Teixeira, and Suso game time.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Deulofeu had a great understanding with Luis Alberto last season so this move could be beneficial to us provided we loan with an option to buy. But how is the move for Mkhitaryan looking increasingly unlikely? By the looks of it it is looking increasing likely with Mkhitaryan rejecting moves to all other clubs. Deal is difficult due to 3rd party ownership so it will take time

    ReplyDelete
  43. I would still prefer Eriksen over Mkhitaryan. But then again I am a big fan of Eriksen aha

    ReplyDelete
  44. Add Wanyama & Dede & LFC add Steel to the Silk

    ReplyDelete
  45. Or Luis Suarez for that matter...

    ReplyDelete
  46. lol totally agree:)

    ReplyDelete
  47. That makes two of us. As the story goes y goesin a little while shaktar will adk 50 mil for mikhitaryan. We should pull back in tje first place and gocus on eriksen plus 1 experienced half if suarez goes. And enought with the youth already. We need class!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Welcome back Jamie. He is indeed a tidy player. Would not ming seeing him at Anfield at all! However I do feel we need a little bit more experience on the wings. Downing is average at best so we need a replacement.

  49. Please don't remind me!
