'We'll see' - £12m maestro wanted by BR hints at Spain exit. Eriksen alternative...?

Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Sevilla midfield star Ivan Rakitic, and the Croatian midfielder has this evening hinted that he could be on the move if things at his club don't change.

According to Sky Sports:

"Ivan Rakitic, a rumoured target of Liverpool, has long been linked with a move to England and...Brendan Rodgers is showing a real interest".

When asked this evening about the possibility of a move abroad, Rakitic claimed that he's 'very satisifed' at Sevilla, but delivered a fairly classless veiled warning about his future. He told Sportske Novosti:

"I have a two year contract [but] it's true that situation [at Sevilla] is not attractive.

"The club have asked me to say on. I told them that I want to see what they have done in terms of signings. We will see what happens in the summer."

Rakitic can play as a deep lying playmaker, attacking midfielder, and if needed, a defensive midfielder, and if Rodgers really is interested in the Croatian, then where does that leave Joe Allen, or indeed Jordan Henderson?

Liverpool are also tracking Christian Eriksen, who last week insisted that the Reds are 'still an option', but if that deal doesn't come off, Rakitic - who is far more experienced than the Dane - could be viable alternate option.

£12m-rated Rakitic is under contract at Sevilla until 2015. Worth a bid, or should the money be used for other areas of the team...?

  2. hendo could turn into a great player for us allen imo will not sell allen get eriksen or rakitic in,also i reckon we will not here anything concrete reguarding suarez till at least the end of next week if then

Lol you remind of the fans who were on hendo back last year then he turned it around so will Allen, he 22, showed he can cut it at Liverpool. All Allen needs to do is build up that's it :)

  4. Can you please explain to me why several of my comment's, and some of those who called you out in your response to me, regarding the Reina/Skrtel issue yesterday were removed.

None of my comments were in breach of your comment policy.. and if so please explain why ? This is either the web site it purports to be or it's not .

Looks like Aspas deal and Llori deals are close, good signings in my opinion, aspas is a upgrade on downing also he flexible in his positions. So if we keep Suarez then all front 3 of Suarez,Sturridge, aspas can change positions during games so it's hard to pick up for defenders. Also PACE! :)

    ReplyDelete
  6. nice dribbling skills, pace, flexibility thats exactly what rodgers wants! good signing at all i think :)

  7. people are so damn harsh on critisising allen...
Lucas and allen played exactly the same positions during our season, both were injured for a while, but both played an important role and both did pretty good in my opinion.
Fact is Lucas and Allen - both of them dont have a pretty good record of giving assists this year, Lucas managed 1 assist while Allen managed 0. In terms of Major impact on the attack theres not a big difference between those 2 guys.

Lets compare these facts to players playing in teams with a similar system. For example: Sergio Busquets who is a worldclass DM, and once described as one of the most important player in the barca squad by Pep guardiola has 1 goal and 2 assists this season. thats 1 goal and 1 assist better than lucas and 1 goal and 2 assist better than Allen while he made 4-5 games more than our two midfielders in a much better team overall...

IMO its really unfair to judge Allen yet, as he got injured. Same for Borini btw. Give them another injuryfree season, if they dont perform next year people may criticize them.

Did Allen not score ?, I thought he did.

  9. Allen will not sell Allen. That must be the most funny comment you have ever made on here.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Yep, twice. Once in the FA Cup, once in the Europa League.

    ReplyDelete
  11. That's a good question.

    ReplyDelete
  12. both were going out for goalkicks lets face it at the begining of the season all i heard was excuses that he,s not playing in his natual position well when he did get the chance he was a complete waste of a jersey, imo rodgers dropping him and his injury saved rodgers job because he was a liabilety

    ReplyDelete
  13. chris thats a very good question i commented on your post a few times but they kept getting deleted

I agree, also Allen made the same impact as carrack when he first utd from spurs, now carrack a big part of utds

    ReplyDelete
  16. allen played in his prefered advanced position as well and still could not get an assist,i said that he would not get 10 goals or assists in a season at anfield and i will lower that to 5 for next season

    ReplyDelete
  17. liverpool4life5657:13 pm, June 06, 2013

"Both were going out for goalkicks" no. How's that work? If they were going out for goal kicks then it wouldn't of gone down as allens goal. It would of gone down as OG. And "liability" not really.

    ReplyDelete
  18. liverpool4life5657:14 pm, June 06, 2013

How did Allen play advanced? When he joined he had to play CDM because of Lucas's Injury.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I was just talking about the league games :)

    ReplyDelete
  20. Whatever, Jason will stick to his stubbornness, no chance of changing his mind.

Lets bet here and now Jason, Allen will get more than 7 goals/assists next season! If he doesnt I will fly to you and spend you a beer, if he does you have to promise me, you will never judge a player just because of an injury-season !!

    ReplyDelete
  21. deal m8 get saving for your air fare and the beer ;-) and i hope he proves me wrong but i just do not see it 7 great odds i would have given you 5

    ReplyDelete
  22. how can allen not turn into something special? he was the only reason why we remained competitive in a couple of our games early on. he was playing dm and did his job to almost near perfection. he cut off plays for the other team and retained possession by keeping it simple. yeah his form took a wild dip but that was right when lucas came back. I'm sure pressure was a factor not to mention his injuries, he is young and has massaive potential. a dm isn't supposed to create goal scoring opportunities nor score. was it his perfered no but he still performed his preface is blocked by some outstanding players and he may have to adjust but it doesn't mean he is a dud and needs to be sold.

    ReplyDelete
  23. but hes an expensive squad player at 12 million

    ReplyDelete
  24. have a little read again....this time,,,,,,,, do it properly.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Why were they counted as goals, if they were going out for goal-kicks?

    ReplyDelete
  26. They would have gone down as goal-kicks, wouldn't they.

    ReplyDelete
  27. That's bold. You should ask for more in return.

    ReplyDelete
  28. That's why I mentioned the competitions he's scored in.

    ReplyDelete
  29. spot on mate. alot of people here like allens character and work rate. i do to, but ability wise face it the boy is a load of garbabe. he scored a rebound against zenit. and a super deflection against 'oldham'. he makes no assists and only does 5 yard passes. his contribution to the team is not sufficient enough and as we know hes clearly overrated due to being british. coutinho is 2 and half years younger, never played in the league nor speak the language but yet he managed to come in and get 3 goals and 7 assists in 13 games. IMO if we keep giving chances to people like allen our league position wont improve. i think rodgers knows he made a mistake signing him and he should be shipped out ASAP.

the only english talent we should invest in is Thomas Ince. 18 goals 15 assists in 44 games is amazing for a winger whoes only 21. think he will be the next gareth bale. that will cost about 6M. and he can replace downing. he can add to Henrikh Mkhitarayan from Shakthar for 20M, who is our marquee signing to really get us into the champions league. Momo Diame for 3.5M from West Ham, Iago Aspas from Celta Vigo for 7M, Luis Alberto From Barcelona B/Sevilla for 4M as a backup future star. and Tiago Ilori for 5M altogether that is £45M

sell skrtel for £12M, sell coates for £6M, sell allen for £7M, sell carrol for £15M, sell downing for £7M. altogether that is £47M.

we should be given a budget of £30M this summer anyway. so thats a bonus

    ReplyDelete
  30. Oh, some punctuation has been added by now. Yes, indeed, now the entire sentence gets a different meaning. Don't think it was a problem of me not reading properly.

    ReplyDelete
  31. beware the allen brigade;-)

    ReplyDelete
  32. Thought Allen's average pass length was 17 or 18 yards.

Coutinho has had an entirely different impact, there's no arguing about that. And I like your transfer suggestions.

    ReplyDelete
  33. While I don`t think Allen is anywhere near as bad as you make out, when picking a first 11 he aint in mine, thus I have to agree he is a expensive squad player.

Currently I have him as first choice back up for Lucas, and way down the list for the center mid and AM role.

In Center mid I have it in this order
    Gerrard
    Hendo
    Shelvey
    Allen

    AM
    Coutinho
    Hendo
    Shelvey
    Allen

    DM
    Lucas
    Allen

    ReplyDelete
  34. any number of squad players could pass a ball 5 yards imo god he made carrager look gun ho

    ReplyDelete
  35. i can almost guarentee you allen wont get anywhere near that sum. he has no confidence in his own ability, which is why he chooses to lay on the responsibilty to a team with 5 yard and unnessary passes. allen passes when there is space to dribble into and that was a big problem we had at he start of the season and which is why we had such poor form. whilst every1 was adjusting to the system, bar suarez no1 use to dribble, especially into space, they would either just pass the ball back to the reciever and we never really use to get anywhere. reason i say allen is BS, is because out of every1 in the team he knew the system fully well but still made little impact. Allen could never take our club into champions league and rodgers knows spending 15m on him was a waist. that same summer we bought allen, chelsea wanted 15M for sturridge. i would have much rathered the 15M went on him because i think we could have probably won a trophy and got top 4

    ReplyDelete
  36. that was up to the goal commitee if thats the case crouch should have at least another 6 for lfc

    ReplyDelete
  37. what loss we will sell him for at least double what we paid for him ,rodgers words not mine

  40. Off topic. West Ham look like they are willing to match Carolls 100k a week wage demand. Now I want Caroll to leave for many reason, however If I was West Ham I would have told Caroll to forget it. He was on 80k a week for us, and failed big time, then goes to West Ham and is injured yet again and somehow that makes him think he is worth more than the 80k a week they first offered him. They gave him a home when we didn`t want him, gave him a chance to show everyone what he was about and get back into the England team and he asked for more cash or wouldn`t go there and instead just sit on the bench for us? pfft I hate the world of Football sometimes.

Watch out Jason might have to go on another website to insult you lol. Did with me just shows his age really! Aha :-)

    ReplyDelete
  42. I don't know DerBaumMAnn personally, so it's difficult to know, but in general I'd say 'why not'. He could attend a match at the same time, flights don't cost the world anymore and if he does you might even get him a beer, too.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Jason is probably my age, or thereabouts. It has nothing to do with that age in particular.

    ReplyDelete
  44. No, no crap pulling at all. I'm not that bright. If three or more sentences are merged into one without punctuation, I find it difficult to understand the meaning.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Yep, it's hilarious, but it's media talk. Should he really ask for 100k a week, they should tell him to do one.

    ReplyDelete
  46. why is allen given special treatment by rodgers he was quick enough to slate players that was already at the club,he got rid of suhin and assaidi never even got a chance another one of his signings

    ReplyDelete
  47. lol a would get him pissed i would buy him that many

  51. It was rejected but they made a bid for Negredo. Doesn't seem like it is complimentary partnership, Negredo and Carroll as both like to play at the very front. So maybe they were/are exploring alternatives to Carroll. :(

  54. looooool. i love Brendan Rodgers but he did say that. but yh allen was a real waste of money. i the same summer we got allen could have got benteke for 7m, Michu for 2m, diame for free and coutinho. instead we ended up with JOE ALLEN. joke

    ReplyDelete
  59. agreed. but BR knows better now to go for players who played well for him at smaller clubs like borini and allen. 27M of wasted talent. he now goes after more foreign players like coutinho, aspas, mkhitaryan and this is what will push our club

    ReplyDelete
  60. liverpool4life5658:48 pm, June 06, 2013

    ReplyDelete
  62. I think they paid his wages in full?

    ReplyDelete
  63. Not sure about that to be honest. We'll probably have to wait until the club's financial reports are published and Jaimie analyses them for us.

    ReplyDelete
  64. No hard feelings then. Wasn't sure and as I don't get any pleasure at all out of upsetting people, thought is might be better to be a bit careful.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Their 17 mil bid was rejected by Sevilla. We are willing to let go AC for 15. Those 2 mil can cover his salary increase for 2-3 years; so they probably thought getting AC would be a good idea.

  66. cause thats life

    ReplyDelete
  68. I find generally when people resort to name slinging its cause they know there point is false, thus name sling to try to re-assure themselves they must be right, how could they not be right as your a... (insert insult).

  69. I would hazzard a guess its one or the other, not both.

    ReplyDelete
  70. liverpool4life56510:13 pm, June 06, 2013

    I agree with you:)

    ReplyDelete
  71. Yes but the problem is that arguably, Lucas and Allen do not work in the same team. It's one or the other. That's why Henderson was injected into the midfield to give us a bit more go forward, and Gerrard was dropped deeper to partner Lucas. I think Allen will develop into a good player, he probably will prove people wrong, I supported Hendo from day one, so I won't be surprised if Allen turns things around...However he just wasn't a necessary signing.

If Eriksen/Rakitic come in I think Shelvey is the one that goes.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Seriously wake the hell up...This aint fifa

    ReplyDelete
  73. It's simply politics at workplace. If you buy heavy on players but sell them cheaply after 1 season, that do not reflect badly on the players but on the manager. It is also politics when a manager will always play his expensively bought players rather than cheaply bought players, players on loan and players bought by ex-managers. It happens to everybody, not only BR. Your infallible KD did exactly the same thing. I think Bellamy and Maxi Rodriguez outperformed Stewart Downing and AC by miles ahead in terms of attacking play last season. They were much more effective despite playing limited games and minutes. But the latter 2 kept getting started in the team. Why, because AC and SD cost 55 mil pounds combined whereas the 2 'outcasts', 1 was bought by ex-manager and the other came on free transfer. Of course, the fate of the 2 managers were different, not because BR was more 'loved' at the club but simply because he improved the standard of the team and position in the league, and spent considerably less than KD. Simple as that with no other agenda.

    ReplyDelete
  74. why do people always say sh*t like that anytime somebody suggests transfers they'd like to see happening???

    ReplyDelete
  75. Very true. Besides BR knows in his first season w a big club rebuilding itself after 2 seasons of new management he doesn't have much bargaining powers in the transfer market. So goes for players
he knows that will come to us & do the job.

Also in regards to Suarez outburst about leaving, does anyone ever thot that it could just be a ploy for him to get the club or the owners to finally wake up & start getting quality players in? Imo Suarez want to say at LFC regardless what he said about the media. Whatever he said in the last couple of weeks is just his way of telling the owners or management to improve the squad or he leaves. Simple as that

    ReplyDelete
  76. Why? Because they go on about we'll sell this lad,we'll sell that lad...? Who the hell will but them and theres no way in hell you'd get them prices,If it was as simple as these people say it is believe me Im sure it would be done

    ReplyDelete
  77. I think with him asking for 100k, its not a case of him actually thinking he deserves but if you look at our recent history of getting rid of unwanted players we tend to give them a slice of the transfer fee to leave for a lower wage.
I think thats what he's looking for here, Get himself a chunk of that 15m even though they are willing to pay him the 80k.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Like Joe Cole, Liverpool are going to pay some part of wages. I know this will hurt

    ReplyDelete
  79. I saw a funny post about Negredo on a West Ham supprters blog saying that if they got Negredo, Suarez could get away with his favourite saying at least twice a season! 'Negredo Negredo Negredo'. Made me laugh anyway! But seriously, he's a decent forward but couldnt be in the same team as Carroll. I hope they pay the 100k p/w and we can focus on replacing him

    ReplyDelete
  80. Spelling the names would be good too. Just jokes, but it is Mkhtharthyhajtheain and Papadopopololopaloozalopolous FYI

    ReplyDelete
  81. Lol. Nice one. Wasn't sure I got them right. I stand corrected!

    ReplyDelete

  83. Can't you differentiate a comma from an apostrophe? And don't even get me started on your spelling.

    ReplyDelete
  84. but kenny signings came good i would have liked kenny to have got another season iam sure he would have got more points than rodgers, but thats history

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  86. hope your right about suarez but i think its more than that

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  88. infact i would let him stay for the night save on hotel fees

    ReplyDelete
  89. i think shelvey will go anywy i just cannot see him forcing himself into the team

    ReplyDelete
  90. at 26 fsg will be looking to cash in lol

    ReplyDelete
  91. that will be thrilling

    ReplyDelete
  92. cannot see the kids getting there names on the shirts

    ReplyDelete
  93. I knew you were a decent guy, after all. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  94. Yes, indeed. There are many things I'd like to know about the money coming into the club. For instance, why exactly did our debt rise. Was it only because they changed the dates for the fiscal year. Should your worries, that FSG take money out of the club, have any truth to them, they will be in for a hard time.

    ReplyDelete
  95. i would like to know why we have any debt i thought we were supposed to be debt free

    ReplyDelete
  96. most would be welcome

    ReplyDelete
  97. Like most such posts, the guy said what he thinks "should" happen in the transfer window from his opinion, not what "will " actually happen.

From my memories of actually playing those games, it was a lot more difficult to sell those deadweight players on those videogames than it appears to be in reality. Do you really think it is so unrealistic to imagine that a club would be willing to offer £7m for Downing, or Skrtel £12m. As far as I can see, the difficult part is convincing players to accept their transfers elsewhere, not to get clubs interested.

Football in real life operates on the principle of the bigger fool. And there is nearly always a bigger fool willing to take on a flop from elsewhere, especially players coming from Premier League clubs.

    ReplyDelete
  98. One thing's for sure about 2013-2014, we won't have to worry about injuries because we'll have a squad of 50 players by the end of it. Dear Fowler the media are getting desperate digging up links with players that date back to the early days of the Benitez era.

    ReplyDelete
  99. So many players linked with Liverpool! If they all signed we could field a B side!
A lot of it is paper talk. I honestly think the Armenian deal was a smokescreen for Fernandino to sign for City. No way would Shakhtar sell two of their better midfielders.
Why are we trying to buy an Armenian anyway for £30m? if he is worth £30m then that means he is the same as Hazard which I very much doubt.
I swear chairmen and agents just pluck figures out of thin air and see what they get away with.
Allen for £15m, Borini for £10m, Henderson for £16m , Downing for £20m and Carroll for £35m!
    Thats £96m wasted!!

    ReplyDelete
  100. Your right, he was a comfort buy by a manager o didn't know whats the difference between Liverpool at Swansea once ... but after buys like sturridge and coutinho he should know what to do , all together I strongly believe Allen will turn out to become a good player, and an important one too. People judged Lucas on his first few games but now they love him, same will happen to Allen me thinks

    ReplyDelete
  101. hell yeah that was an invitation wasn't it ;) ?
    You're a good guy Jason ;)

    ReplyDelete
  102. you welcome any time m8

    ReplyDelete
  103. Darn!! I visited couple of years back and couldn't stay more then 2 days - should have had a contact with you...! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  104. Yep, I, too, would like to know. There was some sort of reason, but I can't recall it. Maybe Jaimie can clear this up.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Because the previous owners left the club in a right mess and hemorrhaging money left, right and center. We still were paying out way to much to players compared to how much we were earning, this is still being rectified as we speak. Also due ot the previous 'work' towards new stadium there were associated costs with not going ahead with the new build (Contracts ect). Due to this debt continued to created after the takeover so FSG loaned the money to the club. The situation is improving now with some old players on silly wages leaving the club.

    ReplyDelete
  106. they bought the club and said we would be debt free they lied

    ReplyDelete
  107. Saying something should happen doesn't really change anything because they still think that these things should happen then complain when it doesn't. And Im not so sure its as easy to shift on the deadwood as people say,one because the lack of interest from clubs...want a example? Jordan Henderson...Fuhlam didnt want him,if they did we would have signed Dempsey (Im glad they didnt want him but Im sure they would now) and the simole point you made yourself is making the players take an inevitable wage cut and moving to a lesser club so to speak....When you factor all these variables into it its not as simple as people make it out to be

    ReplyDelete
  108. I wouldn`t say they came good. Even the blind can see that Downing still aint worth 20mil, or Hendo 16mil and Carroll def aint 35mil. But if you think they are, and are all first teamers then give me some of what your taking please.

    ReplyDelete
  109. hendo looks value at the price to me you have to add the english premium

    ReplyDelete
  110. and that is why you don`t work in accountants Jasons lol

    ReplyDelete
  111. The club was deamed a Toxic asset when FSG Brought it. That means that the income was lower than the outgoings, to put it simply. This means in turn the debt of the club would still rise for a few years while the club lowers its wage bills and gets in more cash, then I would imagine it would start turning a profit, or that is prob the plan.

They did change the dates which prob didn`t help it, however there was also other losses which came from buying out contracts of managers and there back room staff. This is all explained in the Accounts realised last time. Severance pay added up to a lot. As a club the wage bill was almost all of the money we made.

I would imagine not this years, but next will be the interesting one. That is when it will show the new TV and sponsorship money in it. This years wont show that as its still too soon. Accounts work behind.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Cleary you didn`t watch the news when we got brought then. FSG said in main stream news that there was still 30mil of debt, which is to be used to fund anything needed, be that players or severance pay. They never lied, or said anything else so don`t know where you got the idea FSG said we were 100% debt free.

Also we make less money than we spend. All the fans who moan about lowering wages bills, and not spending loads seem to live in a different world. Can`t have it both ways. Either we have debt, and pay bigger wages and get more players, or we dont have debt and have none of the above.

    ReplyDelete
  113. no they didn`t. They said there would still be 30mil of debt. The papers said we would be debt free, but every interview they did they said there would be 30mil of debt left.

    ReplyDelete
  114. I`m afraid RedWill some people don`t have a clue about how compaines work, and you will hit your head against the wall many times with this one. I have posted many times about the "Toxic Asset" status the club had, and how the income outgoings issues, yet time and time again all you will hear is the same old conspricay theorists thinking its the next JFK case happening before there very eyes.

  116. The last accounts showed something like 80m debt, if I'm not mistaken. That's down to the change in date and certain sponsorship moneys not paid by then, right?

  121. Question is, what happens when they eventually sell. Who will buy us. Some asset-stripper? Or will they sell shares to the fans. It's a bit worrying, because they will probably sell to the highest bidder, regardless of that bidder would make a good owner, too.

  124. Nothing anybody says on these forums changes anything.

And for all the talk of the difficulties in shifting dead-weight in reality, it's still easier than doing it on a video game (unless you were the type to engage in a bit of cheating) - there's nearly always clubs interested in players at a club like LFC and the opportunity to talk with the various parties involved to force a move, which is not possible in a video game
