Liverpool defender Daniel Agger has been continually linked with a move to Barcelona over the last few years, and speculation continues to arise over the Dane's future at Anfield.
Over the last month, multiple sources have reported that Barca see Agger as a possible alternative to Thiago Silva, and last week, Liverpool academy chief Rodolfo Borrell - a former Barcelona youth-coach - claimed that said that Reds defender would be fit in perfectly at the Camp Nou. he told SER Esports:
"Agger has the right characteristics to adapt to Barca's play. He is a very trustworthy centre-half, above all on the ball, because he comes out very well with it.
"For Barca, a defender must have a good pass, must make the right decisions, and be quick when you lose the ball and good in the air at set-pieces, both in defence and attack. Agger fulfills all these qualities.
"At Barca, where all the centre-backs are right-footed, to have a lefty would make it much easier to bring the ball out"
I doubt that Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers will be happy to see these comments (!) Borrell is basically fanning the flames of speculation here, and he's made a very public and compelling case for Barcelona to sign Agger.
Soon after these comments, Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo claimed that Agger is interested in joining Barca:
"A Barcelona deal for Thiago Silva is almost impossible, which opens up the possibilities Daniel Agger. The Danish Central defender is the best possible alternative. Liverpool are willing to negotiate a transfer and the player is desperte to join the club"
Agger is definitely a fan favourite, and he has many great qualities (leadership, technique, passing accuracy, running with the ball, comfort in possession), but like Martin Skrtel, he's increasingly prone to mistakes, and it's no exaggeration to suggest that his errors - along with those of Skrtel and Pepe Reina - contributed to Liverpool's failure to challenge for a Champions League place last season.
I can't see Agger leaving, though, especially after all the support he's received from the club through his various injuries. The Reds rejected a £20m bid for the the Dane last summer, and he signed a new contract less than a year ago. Agger he seems settled and happy at Anfield, but having said that, last week, The Guardiann reported:
"Liverpool central defender was close to joining Monaco on a four-year contract as the newly promoted club aim for an instant challenge for French honours and European qualification"
If Agger is willing join Monaco, then it's highly probable that he'd be willing to join Barcelona, and if Liverpool are 'willing to negotiate', it suggests that his position at Anfield is not as solid as it seems.

No way. He is among the better defenders in the EPL and best in LFC. No no no!
ReplyDeleteI really can't see a Liverpool willing to get rid of there best defender, now Jamie's retired he'll be the guy that binds together our defence... and he's got YNWA tattooed on his knuckles!
ReplyDeleteI think after Stevie, Agger is the second person who has immense love and respect love for LFC and I don't think that he's going to leave LFC anytime.
ReplyDeleteThe guy has YNWA tattoo no way in earth he is going anywhere .Believe me once you get Liverpool tattoo it never come off. he would retire at LFC
ReplyDeleteI can't see a player who has the letters YNWA tattooed to his fingers wanting to leave Liverpool.
ReplyDeleteDon't think it will happen he will stay also the Mkhitaryan deal looks like it's picking up pace, will be announced in the next 72 hours.
ReplyDeleteNo need to make lot of fuss about the tattoo. We need Agger for his footballing ability irrespective of the tattoos. I don't think we will keep Spearing if he tattoos YNWA on his knucles
ReplyDeletenope nope nope ......however for 10m + tello why not .........
ReplyDeleteNow if Spuds get Mkhtiharyan, then I really will kill myself!!!!!! Maybe our scouts are double agents!
ReplyDeleteRumours coming for shakter side are saying we've had a bid accepted and Mkhitaryan agent is flying in tomorrow. And the deal should be done in 72 hours.
ReplyDeleteToure has got the number 4 shirt, luis Alberto has the number 6 shirt :)
ReplyDeleteJamie
ReplyDeletecarragher retired
skrtel going
coates going
why would lfc sell agger
we might as well replace the whole team then
For £20mil, I'd sell him. The problem then would be that we'd another centre half and we can't even seem to get 1 first team one so far (I'm counting Toure as a squad player).
ReplyDeleteWe should sell Skrtel and Coates (and if the price is right, Agger) and buy 2-3 centre-backs.
Toure is one but we could do with at least one who is half way between the inexperience of Kelly and Wisdom and the agedness of Toure.
Stating that DAgger is desperate to join FCB is an exaggeration. I guess journos as a whole become incompetent during transfer windows. He's been clear with his stance, "I want to stay at Liverpool until they want me to go". Even in such a situation he won't be desperate.
ReplyDeleteWhat's that ink on his knuckles? YNWA that's what it is. Barca can dream about all they want but they ain't gonna get him. That's a fact.
ReplyDeleteIf you're of the better ball playing defenders in the world you will be linked to one of the best teams in the world, but i doubt Agger will be sold at a time when we have just lost an able leader in our defense in Carra.
ReplyDeleteThese are claims made by newspapers, with no evidence of a factual basis. It wouldn't worry me unless we start hearing quotes about him leaving from the player, his representatives or the club. I also don't agree that Agger made too many mistakes last season either, although I suppose it depends what you class as a "mistake."
ReplyDeleteLiverpool close to signing jorginho from Hellas Verona fee believed to be 6-8 million. Also Mkhitaryan deal is also close. :-)
ReplyDeleteLast week he laughed off Barcelona interest on Danish tv. d'Agger is staying, no need to worry
ReplyDeleteI have liverpool tattooed on my back, I'm now a Man U fan : /
ReplyDeleteState ur point dog
ReplyDeleteyou said hk was close last week
ReplyDeleteWhy do you lie hahahahahahaha. It's stupid just be quiet of your going lie. What did I say before, Mkhitaryan signing liverpool shirts. And IF he signs. But what I've seen a person close to the deal has said it. Watch this space.
ReplyDeletewy do you write hahahahah is it beause you find it funny ,glad you do ,because i would give you 0 out of 10 for entertainment
ReplyDeleteBecause its funny, because you don't have a point you make one up. But I would give you 10 out of 10 for lying. Joker :-)
ReplyDeleteI really dont trust the spanish papers. They seem to be tools used to help lower prices for there clubs by stating interest from there chosen team and to cause unrest with the player. Apparently according to two well known ones Reina signed for them about 4 weeks ago now, and Suarez also agreed a deal a while ago. While we wont know if this is true, the Reina one def looks sus. I remember the article saying "done deal" 10mil I think the fee was.
ReplyDeleteNow if Agger goes it would be gutting, not because he is amazing. He actually made more errors than any other defender for us last season with his poor marking, but because to many changes in defence in one go will surely only lead to a unsettled goal leaking defence. That would be two new Cb`s along with a new Keeper if he does go. Thats a tough ask for any club.
completely agree, its not like the spanish teams are against tapping up players lol.
ReplyDeleteI cant see Agger leaving or atleast i hope he doesnt
Excatly.
ReplyDeleteBarca make me chuckle, they moan about English clubs snapping up there youngsters at 16, due to the spanish F.A. rules which wont let them offer large contracts to young players, but nicely forget almost all there youngsters were snapped up for nothing from other teams around spain when they were younger and put into there factory line acadamy. One rule for one, one for another!
You could say the same about divorced indivudals with their ex's name tattooed on them ;)
ReplyDeleteI see your point, but that's an entirely different thing. You can't compare the relationship to a football club with that to a man/woman. The football club for one won't age poorly, won't cheat, won't complain about the snoring, not getting out enough and so on.
ReplyDeletesell, 20 mill and we could get a tough tackling ball winning centre back we so badly need. a player like ivanovic would be ideal.
ReplyDeleteLol, I know anteater, twas just a cheeky joke ;)
ReplyDeleteThen it might help, if someone on here tattoos the letters AGGER to his/her fingers.
ReplyDeleteWhy do you think that journos are only incompetent during transfer windows?
ReplyDeleteHe also put "ll" in his user name in the place where "ck" should be.
ReplyDeleteAgger will stay
ReplyDeleteI am hoping (really really hoping) we sell skrtel and coates and look to bring in either Pap (greek guy) or Ivanovic and Llori and that will set us up defensively for next season
lol nasty ;-)
ReplyDeleteProbably, but fitting his comment.
ReplyDeletei thought it was quite amusing, tongue in cheek imo refering to aggers tattoo
ReplyDeleteHard to tell. Nowadays you never know. Funnier things have happened.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, to suggest Barca would buy Agger based on a few word uttered by Borrell, is completely ridiculous. Every big club in Europe would know about Agger by now, Why would the words of one of our own saff be of interest to another club?
ReplyDeleteSecondly, I don't think it's impossible that his head gets turned buy Barca. He's approaching his 30s and, after many years of faithful service, I can see why he might prefer to go and win some silverware for a few seasons, and not be part of a rebuilding phase.
I'n not saying he doesn't love the club, Im sure he does, but with my 'neutral hat' on, I could understand him wanting to leave, if Barca come knocking.
ha ha ;-)
