Injury shock: Crocked LFC star faces four months out. Possible solutions...?

After picking up an injury during England's recent utterly meaningless friendly with the Republic of Ireland, it looks increasingly likely that Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge will miss the start of next season.

According to The Guardian:

"Scans have subsequently confirmed Liverpool's worst fears on the extent of [Sturridge's] injury, revealing ankle ligament damage.

"He is expected to be missing from Rodgers' attack when the next campaign opens".

This is a tragedy for Sturridge, who ended the season in revelatory form for Liverpool. It's hardly surprising though given the striker's knack for picking up injuries, something he admitted himself in a a recent interview with LFC.com:

"I'd have his [Suarez's] fitness. He must be a man of steel or something. He gets so many kicks and he doesn't seem to feel it, whereas I get a few niggles here and there and it's very frustrating because it kills the momentum I'm having."

With Luis Suarez missing for the first six games of next season (if he stays, that is), this presents LFC with a real problem. With both main strikers out, that leaves the club with no senior strikers with any track-record of scoring goals in the Premier League.

Even if Sturridge recovers before the start of the season, he will not be fully match-fit as a result of missing out a full preseason. As such, it is imperative that Brendan Rodgers and FSG handle this situation in the right way, and that means taking decisive action as soon as possible. For me, that means signing a minimum of TWO strikers over the summer, irrespective of whether Suarez stays or not. Ideally, I'd like to see THREE strikers come in:

* One top-tier goalscorer (£15-£20m range)
* One mid-level striker (£8-£12m range)
* One young, hungry forward to provide competition.

Whatever happens, Liverpool have to start next season with at least TWO goalscoring strikers available. If that doesn't happen, it will be unacceptable dereliction of duty IMO. The issues are clear, and the club has 75 days to come up with a solution, which is more than enough time.

Liverpool can't afford to have another atrocious start to a league campaign. That happened last season, and it had a dramatically negative effect on the club's ability to challenge for the Champions League.

For the sake of an example (Using realistic targets already linked with the club):

* Top-Tier: Benteke/Lukaku/Sow
* Mid-level: Iago Aspas fits in here. Also Rhodes/Hooper/Gomis
* Young: Vietto

Who would you choose? How many strikers do LFC actually need to sign? If Suarez stays, can the club get away with relying on Aspas, Borini, and maybe Yesil...?

  1. Is Yesil well from his injury? If yes, I think it'll be a good chance for him to prove his credential. Also can they deploy more of Suso, in the forward role? And who knows, maybe it's the right time for Borini to justify his price tag. I do think we have enough cover for the forward positions in the original squad. Is Aspas's signing concrete? If yes, then I think we should have enough to handle the first few games the coming season.

Sow in(cheaper) and aspas (7.7 million)

  3. We need to keep Suarez first and foremost. We need some high quality attacking options and some solid athletic central defenders. I just hope the eclectic mix of commercial elements 'behind the scenes' negotiate well and actually appreciate how pivotal next season could potentially be for our staying power within the European elite. Both for the fans and more importantly for FSG; LFCs commercial value. Everyone fix up ;-)

  4. YES YES...with Suarez going and Sturridge injured....my boy BORINI will flourish...!! I hope Iago Aspas plays as a second striker to Borini

Not sure I'd want Benteke or Lukaku. We seem to have evolved from the traditional centre-forward. If we're going down that route we may as well keep Caroline.
David Villa would be a short term proven fix, if we can afford his wages.

  6. Gutting about Sturridge. Thats a real blow for him and the club.

How many strikers do I want in. If Suarez stays then 1, which is Aspa as thats looking a done deal. If he leaves then two. Aspa and a top level one. The top level one though would need to be great. In the mold of Kiessling. In fact I would like to see us go for him regardless. He is 29, so chances are we wont, however he has great expereince behind him and still has a few years left on the clock. A perfect player to not only fill the gap when Suarez is out and Sturridge is injured but also as a really top notch option when there both available. He offers a but more experience up top too.

In turn though I also think Henrikh should be brought as we only really use one true striker, and I think adding to the wing options is what will make the bigger difference. Getting him would make the loss of Suarez and Sturridge less bad at the start of the season.

In terms of how many strikers do we need. I would say not that many, but what we need is top strikers. Its not the number but the quality. borini has been a bit unlucky, but someone has to go too imo, otherwise the team sheet is unbalanced. If we keep suarez we have this many strikers going for one true spot. Ive not included the young players.

    Suarez

    Sturridge

    Aspa

    Borini

Ok some can play other roles, but four ok, but if we add another 5 is too many imo. Unhappy players and unhappy dressing room will follow. The quality needs to improve, not by much but by one person.

    This looks a lot better

    Suarez
    Sturridge
    Aspa
    Kiessling

If Suarez goes and Sturridge is out at the start, we will still have Aspa and Kiessling to play up top. That is good enough imo.

  8. If Suarez leaves, we need a new centre forward regardless if Daniel is back in time.

I think - give Borini a chance to show his worth; in my opinion hes had a shit season riddled with injuries and its not fair to cast him out just yet. In the last few games; I dont remember much goal action; which doesnt bode well. But I also remember some good movement off the ball; and some technical ability with the ball at his feet. To be honest; if Coutinho is as good as we all think he is - he could just link up perfectly with the young Italian and start smashing them in like Sturridge has done. Failing that Yesil might be a good bet to see what all the fuss is about. As above - we need a new striker regardless (even with Aspas).

I saw we were being linked with Muriel; I'd say go for it - he looks really good and fits FSG and Rodgers' ideals. Not Benteke or Lukaku or Bony or whoever. I think if Rodgers wanted a big striker he'd have kept Carroll.

  9. Start of the season aint no time to play "lets see how young players who never really played get on". You mess up at the start and ur season can be over. There is a time and a place for blooding young players, and that should be later in games when winning. Trying it at the start is such a risk. What happens if after losing the first two games you noticed the young players arent ready or good enough? to late to do anything about it.

  10. The injury came from a tackle, so I don't think his history is relevant. It's not a fitness issue when somewhen slams their studs into your ankle.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Yep, glad im not the only one who doesnt want either of them two.

    ReplyDelete
  12. to old, and would still be very expensive, not sure if his playing style fits us, i think it would be much more whisely if we go for damiao!!

    ReplyDelete
  13. That's the reason no one else wanted sturridge always out for some reason

    ReplyDelete
  14. with the aspas deal already done i would take Lukaku if the price is okay, and otherwise we should go for Sow, he wants to join us in pretty good and wouldnt be too expensive.
dont think we need more than 2 new strikers!

  15. Theres still a huge difference between lukaku + benteke and Carroll keep that in mind mate

    ReplyDelete
  16. How ironic the takle was made by a stoke player ...

    ReplyDelete
  17. I am not sure Rodgers is a fan of players like Lukaku, Benteke and Carroll.

    ReplyDelete
  18. What about our own young hungry players like Yesil and Morgan?

    ReplyDelete
  19. they would both be benchwarmers.. keep that in mind? Rodgers prefers smaller technical strikers rather than huge 9's

  20. Go review season 2011-12, good start to a season means nothing in the end. When's a good time for young players? Unimportant League Cup games? I'm talking about players aged 19-23, yes, I'm talking about Borini, Suso and Yesil, not some 16 year old school boys. At the age, Michael Owen and Robbie Fowler were scoring goals for fun at LFC. You don't give chance for young players in proper league games, you will never be able to groom young players. Maybe it's also because of this kind of mentality in the club, that's why we never have another Robbie Fowler, Michael Owen, Jamie Carragher and Steven Gerrard for the past many years.

Oh yeah! Or are you like many fans here, buy big! Buy big is the solution to all problems. Let's pay 40 mil pounds for Jordan Rhodes and 50 mil pounds for Benteke, they guarantee success! Nearly forget how Andy Carroll blazed through EPL for LFC, just like a charging cavalry unit into some unarmed peasants. Anyway, what's your definition of 'big' players? We offer no Champions League
football, so let's not dream about getting so-called 'star' players. What we can get are only unproven player from smaller leagues or those 1 season wonders from EPL. Of course, usually from the kind of fees we pay, we make them well-known superstars.

    ReplyDelete
  21. First suarez has to stay.he is a mug but there is no world class striker who would sign for us even if we sell him for 50m.forget the support we gave him liverpool knew what they were getting by signing him??so the liverpool fans getting personal about suarez leaving need a reality check.no champs league and no chance for a major trophy and expect him to stay when bigger clubs are after him??what planet are some of you on.we should be begging him to stay.he with sturrige aspas and another striker not borini then we would be good for next season

    ReplyDelete
  22. Injured...again. He's starting to look like Kirkland...anyway, whether he's back or not for opening day, he'll have missed all of pre-season which is a severe pain in the backside. Aspas is new to the club and the last thing you want to do is tell him the success of our season is on his shoulders, two days into the job. Borini and Yesil may do better this season but it's not worth the risk really. I have to concede we need a new striker but who will it be knowing that six weeks into the season Suarez and Sturridge will be back?

    ReplyDelete
  23. If Suarez leaves (He 'll, I knew that few months back) for Real, we should also bargain for a player exchange. & that is not Callejion, last time Real bluffed us with Nunez for Owen. If Suarez goes there & Bale looks almost certain, with CR not leaving; Real 'll off-load De Maria & one of Benzama or Higuan (At 25 or less, none of them 'll like to warm bench in a WC year); we should bergain hard for De Maria & one of the 2 strikers.

My best choice was Varane in exchange, but I think after loosing Carvalo to Monaco, possibly Pepe to another money bag ManCity (& may be Albiol as well), Real 'll not negotiate for Varane.

    ReplyDelete
  24. OMG you sound like you have one almighty chip on your shoulder? where on earth did you get all that garbage from about me wanting to buy big, and spend 50mil on Benteke? Do you just make stuff up in ur head, to convince yourself that is what others who dont agree with you think? Why would I give you a definiation you big players when I havent spoke about them at all?

Now I do actually have some clever grown up answers to your somewhat childish repsonses, however judging from how off on one you went I think it might be best to re-frain disagreeing with you on anything.

Now as im in a happy mood, heres a tip. Read the persons reply properly before going off on one about something they havent even said.

    ReplyDelete
  25. what about Carroll? he should get shout. also Suso or Morgan should be given a chance too... LFC, please do not drag your feet.

  27. Aspas will probably be playing RW mostly as competition for Downing, or if Downing goes, Atsu.

    ReplyDelete
  28. You know i never really thought about a scenario where Real would offer a defender in the Suarez deal for some reason, so now that you mention it Varane would be a handy player to add to the ranks and would meet all of FSG's requirements.
    decent idea atleast

  32. Falcao just signed for Monaco? They had a lower average attendance than Luton Town in the Conference (5900 to Monaco's 5100). Now I'm not saying to go out and spend copious money on a striker but that we can still sign top players. We are more attractive than Monaco!

    ReplyDelete
  33. we need another striker no matter if suarez stays or not imo borrini and sturridge seem to be injury prone said before i would give rhodes ago hull are trying to sign him maybe we should

    ReplyDelete
  34. I would bet my bottom dollar that, should a bigger Spanish club come calling, with us still out of the CL/EL, Spaniard Suso would like to move. And should a London club who's more successful than us recently come in for Sterling, then he'd be off, too. He moved here from QPR. Coady, though, yes, he is a local lad and would likely want to stay at the club he came through.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Do you really think they are ready for regular first team action? Both look still very lightweight and raw to me.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Guess Monaco, on the French Riviera, must be a more attractive place to live for most people without affiliation to Liverpool.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Signing two forwards while retaining Suarez, Borini and Sturridge would mean having five forwards for two positions. That is a blueprint of an unhappy, even bitter, changing room.

I feel happy with signing one proven forward with the money received from Suarez sale, and relying on Borini and recovered Sturridge to make a nice three-man forward department of the squad.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Jaime, it looks like Aspas and Alberto are both going to sign unless Barca pick up their option of Alberto. Would that in your opinion classify as a mid level and young hungry striker? (Alberto has been known to play up front but is probably most effective as a second striker, I would also like to see Yesil or Morgan have a pop)

If Suarez goes (which by most accounts is just a matter of when and by how much, I expect the tug of war to continue well into the window) then Liverpool's recent enquiry into Benteke may have some substance to it? Would that fit into your top striker mould, he is certain to cost over 20m.

We have also enquired about Jesus Navas (a wide player I know) who seems to have got over his homesickness and is willing to move. He has been a consistent performer but with his form not being great last season and Sevilla's need to sell he is a good albeit risky option. Would be much better than Downing IMO. I would be extremely happy with Benteke and Navas with any money picked up from Suarez, your opinions?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Should we sell Suaréz then surely the time would have come to finally get Jovetic. Hard to believe that he still is only 23, as he was already linked with us some five or so years ago. He would probably be as close as a like-for-like replacement for Suaréz as we can currently find. And he is a big enough name to please those fans who call for a marquee signing, too.

    ReplyDelete
  40. If Suarez leaves I hope we target both Benteke and lukaku image that for a partnership I really don't think there is a single defence that would be able to handle this pair when they are on top form and this would give us a lot of quality options which is what we n need to get back to the top

    ReplyDelete
  41. Villa set up their team to the strengths of Benteke, just like Newcaste did with Carroll. We probably won't do that, and as a result of this I am not sure whether he would have such an impact for us. If Suaréz goes we should try to replace him with Jovetic.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Jovetic is a good player no doubt, the problem I see is that we have to wait for this Suarez saga to end before bidding on such players and there is immediate interest from Arsenal, Juventus etc.

    ReplyDelete
  43. The top tier suggestion what you said Jamie is the best Lukaku, Benteke and Sow...wish lfc goes for that ...as it would torment other teams

    ReplyDelete
  44. Lacina Traore. The one and only striker we'll ever need.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Yep, true. That's why we should tell Real and Suaréz' other suitor now, behind the scenes of course, that if they are really interested in signing our player, we start negotiations at 50m now, rising by 10m every week as it would be more difficult for us to find a proper replacement. No offers for one of our best players should be considered after, say, August 1.

    ReplyDelete
  46. If the reports that we'll live without Sturridge until September are true then realistically we could survive with a front line of Aspas (subject to confirmation), Borini (finally played in his favoured central role) and Coutinho - with Sterling, Suso and Assaidi ready to support on the edges. Nonetheless I'd expect one more attacking signing regardless of injuries or Suarez sale: probably a player with the versatility to play across the front line which helps in game and also to negate the impact of injuries.

    ReplyDelete
  47. tend to agree cant see the club wanting to spend 20 mill or more on plan b

    ReplyDelete
  48. I'd go with Benteke, Aspas and Borini? (If he is free from injury)

    ReplyDelete
  49. Sow isn't, has never been, and will never ever be a top tier striker. He hardly scores 0,5 goals per game in the Turkish league

    ReplyDelete
  50. Theres a big big big difference between Lukaku,Benteke and Carroll,For one they have pace, which Carroll seriously doesn't,they have technical ability which Carroll isn't blessed with,If its true Carroll wants to come back and work his way back into contention I say fair play to him so there would be no point i buying them players but they are more suited to us then Carroll

    ReplyDelete
  51. For the last time...PAPE SOW is not a top level striker. This is not a slight against Jaimie, rather an observation based on the general tone of the forum. Sow is a lesser Andy Carroll, we would be foolish to spend a dime (er uhhh shilling) on the guy when we have someone like him already on the roster (or soon to be gone). It's the worst bit of business possible; selling to spend on an untested version of the same thing.
Gomis lit up the French league in ways Sow never did and goes for the same price with a better pedegree. That should be taken into consideration.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I agree, I also feel comparing Benteke/Lakaku to Carrol is like comparing the latest range rover to one from the 1970s with no engine & placed on bricks! These guys are far more multifaceted & I believe they're technical enough to play in BRs team!

    ReplyDelete
  53. I agree most of the things you said

    ReplyDelete
  54. Six! So many players mentioned fit the AC mold. Why not just keep him in that case?

    ReplyDelete
  55. Sow is atrocious value for the price. His best moments came on a team where Joe Cole was a prized starter.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Exactly! His best days were starring along Joe Cole in France! Telling really.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Good point. What do you make of Aspa? I have watched him a few times, and think he is a good player, but he does lose the ball alot and has this odd thing where the ball sticks to his feet, which shows great ball control, while at the same time his first touch can be aweful. He can also be a bit hit it and hope with some of his passes. Overall he is a improvement on Downing and a good addition to the team imo. What do you make of him?

    ReplyDelete
  58. but you know why, cause he used crazy examples. Who wouldnt agree when the options given are 50mil for Benteke and 40mil for Rhodes or use the young players.

There prob isnt one Liverpool fan alive that would want to pay that for them too.

Now if he had said 3mil for Benteke or use young players who have never played before for us, what would you think then?

My point is, when using stupid examples to make your arguement look good, it loses any real weight. Benteke (who I dont want) would not cost either 3mil or 50mil.

    ReplyDelete
  59. This is my thoughts. Along with the fact playing them before they are ready will kill them. Once they dont perform, everyone gets on there back and slates them and you never hear of them again. This happens so much with us. We play players when not ready then hate on them. I`ve seen Sterling gets loads of abuse. Coates is deamed useless, People said Hendo wasnt fit to wear the Liverpool shirt last season and then there is all the players we have let go on frees etc.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Techincally it is only one position to, depending on the formation. in a 4-3-3 only one is truly a striker the others are wingers/strikers. In a 4-2-3-1 the center man in the 3 behind the striker could be a striker playing just off the forward as seen with Suarez, or a attacking AM like Continho. However neither formation really allows for two out and out Forwards on the pitch at the same time. This is why Suarez and Sturridge works so well. Suarez isn`t truly a Forward, he more often than not is around the 25 yard line not in it. Sturridge though is more often than not ever outside that line (when attacking minus offside positioning).

Two Sturridge type players on the pitch at once would need a different formation imo.

This is why I think its not about the numbers but about the quality. 4 is more than enough, just need to improve the quality of the four rather than keep adding to it.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Completly agree with you and Luke here. Esp as he is playing the cup games as of next week so chances are if he aint sorted a deal before then he wont for at least a month. Staying or going needs to be sorted right now imo. I would go as far as to say long before August 1st. Granted the window aint open, but the top players are being signed up right now. By then there will only be the left overs or hagglers left.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I hate the Daily Mail but Platini recently did a interview with them about FFP. His recent spin on it is this:

'Financial fair play is to protect the club, it is to protect the club from bankruptcy, from the problems that they will see in the future. It’s not a matter to be more competitive.'

The whole thing just smacked of Platini dumbing down the power he has and how difficult things are. Pffft.

    ReplyDelete
  63. And Lucas wasn't fit to wear the shirt, either. It must be a very difficult job to please some of our supporters. It's probably not too different at other clubs, though.

    ReplyDelete
  64. That, too, but, if you had no idea about how great people in Liverpool are and would not support the club, where would you want to live, if you could afford it. On the Irish Sea or on the French Riviera? Honest answer, please. Note: The weather is very nice on the French Riviera.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Hey my friend, I'm really sorry for the exaggerated stuff in my last post. However, I will standby my point. Assuming LS not leaving this summer and DS will be out for 4 months as mentioned, we will be without established strikers for only a couple of games, if we are buying Aspas, then why do we need more strikers/forwards in the team? Then who do you recommend as replacement? You mentioned Stefan Kießling? He's definitely not a one season wonder, but neither is he a prolific goal poacher in Bundesliga and he will need time to settle down in a new league, not forgetting he is turning 30 next Jan. Will he be able to command a regular spot in the squad when LS and DS are available?

Seriously, to provide cover and competition, I think with the addition of Aspas, the present squad of strikers/forwards are sufficient for the job. Personally, I really think Suso is a player with a hell lot of potential. I did not watch Yesil in a game but he's a prolific scorer for German youth teams. He can't be too bad, can he? TBH, I prefer to see Suso and Yesil to be the main guys to provide cover and competition rather than Borini and the rest. Anyway, If all this happens, we will have LS, DS, Aspas, Kießling, Borini, Suso and Yesil in the striker/forward department, not to mention Adam Morgan and Assaidi. It's utterly meaningless.

As cranky as I get, I'm ultra frustrated when we are constantly link with many players, mostly unproven players from lesser leagues or one season wonders in EPL. What's more frustrating is we usually ending up buying a few of these players every season, for rather obscene prices. Even then, owner will be branded as cheapskate, though I cannot be sure if this is the majority view among fans. For players like Benteke, anything more than 10-12 mil pounds is a gamble yet there are so many of us here saying he's going to be a great buy at 25 mil pounds. He's a now a one season wonder and he will remain so until he proves otherwise. Go scout for a Michu and Kagawa if LFC is being realistic about the present plight of the club. Right now, we offer no Champions League football for 'star' players and inability to earn good revenue from it, continue wasting silly money every season is going to see us drifting further away from the top tier of teams and may even land us into financial instability. I mentioned this before, fallen from grace is nothing to be shameful about but failure to acknowledge it definitely is. We will not stand any chance of moving back to the top 4 in the league until we know how to buy foreign sensibly and groom/play locals/youths. Any chance for us to outspend Mansour City and Chelski? Answer is no. Any chance for us to earn bigger match day revenue than Man Utd and Arsenal? Answer is no again. No to mention the pay packet of Champions League footy. The only way now is to learn the art of buying as astutely as Arsene Wenger, the person behind the perfect model of a modern, self sufficient football club.

    ReplyDelete
  66. no problem.

I do agree that if we signed someone else we would have to many players for that position. I think though that Suarez is such a good player if he goes he will need replacing.

Kiesling I think would be great, however I don`t think we will go for him as he is prob to old for FSG. His goal rate aint to bad. Off the top of my head so may get a little wrong I think he scored 27 goals last season in 43 games. And 20 the season before. Thats not bad at all. I think he was the top scorer in Germany this year.

I do like and do agree young players need games or they will never become anything, but we do have a lot of young players in the team and my worry is that if Suarez goes, and Sturridge gets injured again, which is likely we might struggle for real fire power up top.

Suso looks like a good player. I`m not sure on Yesil as just havent seen enough of him to comment, but my worry is using young players when you have no other options. It puts a lot of pressure on them and can ruin them if they dont hit the ground running. At a club like Liverpool you just cant have two bad games in a row or you get slated. Look at Allen. He played well at start of the season, had a couple of bad games and a lot of people wanted him gone. Even Sterling got a lot of stick.

For me young players shouldnt be included in your squad in terms of counted on players. They should be extras that you can play in a game where if it goes wrong people wont turn on them. This gives them the chance to grow and the time to grow and become stars.

I remember to well when ngog was forced to be our only striker for about 3months. The lad had potential, but he wasnt ready to lead the line for us, you could see his confidence go game by game and now he has lost that potential.

There is also the factor of the manager. He will lose his job if we dont win stuff/games. Can he risk his job on a untested 18 year old?

I`m all for playing the young players, when the time is right and when there is less pressure.

I dont think it helps that we have so many either as if you have a lot more expereinced players in your team you can add the odd young player and there mistakes can be covered up.With so many in the team I`m not sure they can be covered up.

I think Striker is the hardest role to break through into. Goals win games and unlike other positions where there is someone else to help or cover you, as a Striker you have no one. You have to score, and lots. You dont and the team doesnt win.

Say Suarez goes, and Sturridge is out for the first month. Would I feel confident playing maybe City or Utd or Chelsea with Aspa and borini or Suso and Yesil as our only options? I dont think I would.

I do agree with you that we cant compete with the clubs you mentioned. And we do have to find young talent and build, which will take years. However, wile I dont think we can win the league right now. I do think fourth is achieveable on the budgets we have. This season it was there for the taking. Aresnal gave away loads of points.

A few signings and we could at least compete imo.

    Henrikh, 14mil
    Papa, 12mil
    Kiessling 10mil

There not super big money deals, but would give us what we need. However at some point we will need to ship out players too. We have to many strikers, and way to many mids.

  67. I agreed to "most of the things" not all. I for one would love to see LFC playing home grown players week in week out.

  68. third time lol....I actually feel sorry for him. I was the one thrashing BR's signings including Borini. But I was being totally unfair to the lad. 1) He can only play upfront as a poacher....but he never started upfront due to Suarez 2) Injuries 3) Never got 3 starts in a row 4) Only substitute appearance after returning from injuries and looks sharp 5) He has that striker instinct and his finishing I believe is better than DS....

I just hope he plays 38 league games as a striker next season. 20 minimum goals I guarantee

  69. Yes, you are right, Kießling is this season's top scorer in Bundesliga
with 25 goals and he got 17 league goals last season. You suggested 10
mil pounds for him, It will certainly be a great deal at that price. But
how can that be, a bundesliga top scorer for 10 mil pounds? For the
other 2, they sound interesting options for us. I did not watch them
play in matches but I did watch highlights of the 2.

    I certainly
do not agree to buy big always, especially on unproven players. But if
LS, Reina and Carragher (certainly) are leaving, we must replace them
with quality player, no doubt about that. All the 3 of them are not
easily replaceable though. I want the young strikers/forwards to play
more often but I'm assuming LS is staying, which he will be till a
    concrete deal is made.

  71. its shocking aint it, although I dont know why im shocked by anything Plantini does.

Dont get me wrong, I disagree with FFP, as I think it makes football less competive by its nature, purely as say a wigen will never again be able to compete with the top clubs (not that they do know by currently there is a chance if a rich owner comes in).

To protect clubs is easy to me. firstly a better test for new owners, secondly make it that the club has to tuen a profit every year, from today. Thats like FFP but without the idea of some loses. Also without the idea that a owner cant put his own money in. Which FFP says he cant. To me there is zero risk to the club if a owner puts his own cash in, as long as its not in the form of a loan.

Funny aint it, how now that PSG and Monaco got rich owners, all of a sudden FFP rules to be changing.

  72. Monaco, every day of the week mate. So I see your point

  73. Your prob right he would cost more. I was working it on the fact no one ever hypes him. Most people havent even heard of him. Its odd cause people rave about players who have only 7 games to there name at senior level from say the spanish league, but no one ever mentions a proven top striker. Its for this reason that im thinking he will be a bit cheaper than his true value, purely as theres no hype going around. Or not in the UK anyway. He is also 29, so this should lower his value a bit. Maybe 10mil was to cheap a suggestion, but 15mil might do it?
