BR is a big fan: £15m Prem star on LFC's transfer wish-list. Unrealistic option...?

The list of central defenders linked with Liverpool continues to grow, and Spurs star Steven Caulker is reportedly amongst the players being considered by Reds boss Brendan Rodgers.

According to the Daily Mail today:

"He [Rodgers] is a fan of Tottenham's Steven Caulker but [his] valuation is high.

"Liverpool have also watched Stefan de Vrij at Feyenoord and Sevilla's Federico Fazio"

Fazio, Williams and De Vrij are long-standing LFC targets, but Caulker is a relatively new name in the mix.

It's hardly surprising to see him linked with Liverpool, however. Caulker spent last season on loan at Swansea City under Brendan Rodgers, and given the LFC boss's penchant for signing (or trying to sign) his former players, I'm sure the Caulker link will intensify this summer.

A move seems highly doubtful though, especially since the 21-year old recently signed a 4-year deal with Spurs. In any case, if the club is going to replace Jamie Carragher, an experienced central defender is needed, not a comparative rookie.

Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas is certainly happy with Caulker's progress, and in a recent interview, he praised the youngster for doing 'excellently' on loan at Swansea, adding:

"I think for a first season back in Tottenham the amount of games he has played shows the quality that he has"

According to The Mirror, Spurs have slapped a £15m price-tag on Caulker, and for that money, the Reds could snap up a much more experienced, first-team ready central defender.

  2. He should be playing instead of Dawson. Spurs fans are blinded by sentiment, but Dawson give the ball away to cheaply and undermines our possession/pressing tactics.

  3. he wont be coming to Liverpool not for 5m or 15m ....

  4. I like him. He's young, intelligent and mobile. A lot of people are talking about bringing in a leader at the back, however I think Dan will be that man from next season, which means we should be concentrating on complimenting him with a centre-back who will potentially become the new leader at the back once Dan's time is up.

  7. I like Caulker, but why would Spurs sell him to us?
I haven't seen enough of De Vrij to convince me that he is the man, but I'm willing to be that the price we'd pay for him would be more representative of his standing in he game than Caulker's.

  11. Sturridge is a success so far and Assaidi doesnt have a chance because he doesnt get played, Sahin was played out of positon or else would have been fantastic for us
