'He is the best' - Agent confirms LFC want exciting £6m South American striker

In September 2012, Brendan Rodgers sent scouts to assess Argentinian striker Luciano Vietto, an 19-year old striker who currently plays for Racing Club in the Argentine Apertura. It seems that the Reds liked what they saw because according to the youngster's Agent, Liverpool are still interested.

In October, Talksport, claimed that Liverpool, Juventus, PSG and Real Madrid were all tracking Vietto, and his Agent, Jorge Cyterszpiler, told TMW:

"I confirm that he [Vietto] has caught the attention of big clubs, including Juventus. He was the second top scorer in the league."

In an interview last night, Cyterszpiler told Tuttosport:

"I'm leaving next week for Europe to meet the various interested clubs interested. The whole world wants Vietto, including Liverpool, Real Madrid, Juventus and other international clubs. Vietto is the best young player in Argentina. "

£6.5m-rated Vietto scored a fabled 'perfect' hat-trick - left foot, right foot and header - against Club Atletico San Martinu in a league game in September:

Liverpool have a strong South American contingent at the club, which could be an attraction if/when negotiations begin. Having said that, the presence of Luis Suarez, Sebastian Coates and Lucas Leiva didn't seem to help in the pursuit of Gaston Ramirez last summer, so perhaps that's wishful thinking (!)

Vietto - who scored another hat-trick in April against Newell's Old Boys - has made 29 senior appearances for Racing Club this season, scoring 11 goals along the way, but he'll miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery this week for a bilateral inguinal hernia.

  2. do we really have any money spare nevermind 6 million, for another player for the future ,and what happens to all these players for the future ,because we have been doing the future thing now for years but we have not struck gold often

  3. Hernia is a tricky injury. I wouldn't risk any money on him for at least a season.

  5. on another subject it was rumoured last week eriksen gave two weeks for lfc to sort a transfer out or he would sign another contract with ajax, well i hope the committee is sorting it out and not as i assume sunning it up on some beach, and who is the committee,i hope it doe,s not include our owners ,as that will mean they are picking the players we sign as well and undermining the manager even more than they would if the committee was a group of footballing experts

  6. this summer is a big one for rodgers imo and an even bigger one for fsg if they do not back him now they never will

  7. That rumour is rubbish. It would suggest Eriksen would want to move to Liverpool and nowhere else but he wouldn't want to wait more than two weeks to get what he wants? Rubbish I say. Nothing like that in the Dutch press anyway.

  8. Lukaku is a beast. Vietto is tiny...there is no comparison. We already have this guy. His name is Phillipe Coutinho.

  12. coutinhio isnt a striker.. I know nothing about him but people who say buying youth is stupid really needs a rethink. we are a club with not alot of money and if we did what yiu say and buy proven tarhets then january wouldnt of gone well would it. big supporter of brendan rogers and what hes trying to do. fair play to fsg for bringin him in.

  16. With 15 million for big Andy and possibly some money for Spearing, I can see our gross spending hit 50 million this summer.

  17. I didn't mean to imply Coutinho is a striker although he could play that role. I just meant we already have too many tiny guys trying to score goals: Coutinho, Borini, Suso, Assaidi, even Allen. They all have one thing in common: when they get inside the 18 with the ball, some big guy always knocks them off of it or muscles them out of the way. We need more heft up front. I'd be way more interested in Benteke...or even Lukaku (though I think he's not as good as everybody thinks he is) than another tiny guy that will just get muscled away.

  18. I agree...If we're looking for someone who can fill the gap for Suarez and Sturridge when they need a break and who has some heft and experience and maybe a good year or two left in him...how about Grant Holt? He always seems to be in the play, has a great nose for the ball and is calm when things get crazy.

  19. If you look at Bayern, Barca or Ajax what do you notice every match they play? 5-0 up or 5-0 down? They never ever change their system. Grant Holt is the type of player English clubs bring in to the game when they "try to force a way through". I don't believe in launching balls into the box when you're a goal down or trying to force a win. So any striker that comes in needs to be the same type of player we already have in Sturridge. It's hard to find one though who is willing to wait for his chance from the bench. That's why Barcelona use youth players for that. The way I see it, Ibe, Sinclair or Yesil will be the cover we're looking to use.
