'He's fantastic' - LFC chase €10m striker hailed as the 'surprise of the season'

Liverpool are reportedly considering a summer move for Parma striker Ishak Belfodil.

According to reports in Italy today:

- Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is an admirer of the 20-year old goalscorer.

- Liverpool scouts have watched him play on three separate occasions.

Tottenham and Everton are also monitoring the €10m-rated Algeria International, who signed for Parma last summer.

Parma winger Jonathan Biabiany is not surprised that clubs are in for Belfodil. In a recent interview, he enthused:

“I am delighted that we have so many strong players here and added to the squad well too and it is also deserved that people are being linked with our players. Belfodil is a great asset of the club and a fantastic player.”

Belfodil - a devout Muslim - found himself increasingly on the sidelines in the second half of the season after falling foul of Parma boss Roberto Donadoni.

The Italian recently explained his decision to marginalise the player, claiming that although his 'huge religious faith affects his lifestyle and performances on the pitch', it did not 'affect his choices. He told reporters:

“From January onwards he [Belfodil] was a little too distracted. When everyone is talking about you then the pitch is no longer a priority. Now he has understood his mistake and I am sure he’ll begin giving his best again. He needs to win back his credibility.”

Parma Chief Tommaso Ghirardi is a big fan of Belfodil, and he's 'proud' of the fact other teams are showing an interest:

“He’s one of the surprises of the season. He’s already scored seven goals in Serie A this season. He’s young and needs to mature, but Juve are alert to him. That makes us proud.”

Belfodil's contribution this season is creditable:

* 8 goals/4 assists in 34 apps (22 starts)
* Goal every 2.7 games
* Goal/Assist every 1.8 games

Liverpool need another striker, and a younger player may be a good option as the competition upfront is sure to be strong next season. However, players from Serie A never seem to do well at Anfield, and for €10m, I'm sure most fans would want the club to sign a more prolific goalscorer.

Worth a bid...?

  1. please no another borini we want class players not more cheap potential buys its getting beyond a joke, one thing if any of the potential buys come good how long before we sell them and sign more potential

  2. Do we really need a touch of the "Chariot's of Fire" ? I could see a "would like to play BUT there are rules that forbid playing today!" scenario. Best leave him where he is....

  3. No i dont think promising enough is the type of player that i cannot see adding much to the side be happy to leave him be.
They can sell Borini too he just does not cut it and find someone who is not injury prone or just plain rubbish i would like to see Bony come.

  5. Cheap potential buys?
FABIO BORINI came for 11m and this guy is valued at 8.Maybe that's cheap to MAN CITY or CHELSEA but that leaves a massive hole in our transfer budget!

  12. I know it would be highly unlikely given our depth in the area but I would really like to have a go at signing Alvaro Negredo from Sevilla. He's got a good return and is entering the prime of his career. It all depends on what he costs. But if we could get the other areas taken care of early then we might have some free money to spend.

  25. Ive seen it reported that we are apparently very close to a deal for the chap from Celta de Vigo.
So if that deal goes through then theres no need for this young man.

  26. i would have liked David Villa of 09'.

Apparently Barca want like 11m for him so i dont know if that really a good price for a guy almost 32.

Also with FSG's youth policy it seems like it would be an uphill battle for him.
But end of day the guy knows how to find the back of the net! :D

  27. That old chestnut! I knew our chances would have been slim. Who would you like to see out of the realistic targets we have Jamie?

  28. You are clueless!!

  29. Jamie can you do an article on whats our best formation including maybe one possible attacking player to possibly replace downing. I went through about 15 different formations interchanging different players here there and everywhere trying to get our best team. The majority picks itself .

Movement, finds space just need abit of work on his finishing, also he only started 11 games, he will improve next year, he 21/22 only young, :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. I haven't seen him miss a load of chances this season because his "movement" hasn't got him in that many times to miss.Do you see him starting more games next year,I don't.Fans are calling for us to sign another striker so where would that leave him?

    ReplyDelete
  32. "Movement"I banged that drum early on in the season when fans were on his case.Clever movement gets you chances and I haven't seen him miss a shedload of opportunities.
Do you really see him starting more games next year, I don't.Everyone seems to calling for a new striker, where would that leave him in the pecking order?

3rd4th in the pecking order, when he came on against Newcastle he scored then hit the post against Fulham, he just needs confidence in himself :)

    ReplyDelete
  38. Scored at NEWCASTLE and hit the post at FULHAM and injured for half the season.A quick sum up of his LFC career to date.FABIO BORINI 11m of 4th choice striker on the bench makes no sense!

He had a broken foot and shoulder injury, let us see him go a season without injury then we will see what he can do. If he was on big wages then il be worried but he only on 30k a week.

  40. Too tall, too young, 7 goals in 34 appearances at Parma does not sound 'fantastic' to me. Need to sign good central defenders, then a good holding mid-fielder, then a third striker. Benteke would be my choice. However, he may be too good to sit the bench. If we need a thrid striker matbe somebody who's got a few good years left in him that plays well...Grant Holt?

    ReplyDelete
  41. I agree, He doesnt look like he's completely out of it when he's on the pitch and its a bit harsh to call someone whos i believe has had only 3 injuries his whole senior career "injury prone".
A broken foot and dislocated shoulder are just unlucky, but obviously if he comes out next year n breaks his hand and and a few ribs maybe then i'd question his injuries lol.
People wanted henderson gone after last season n he played like 47 games and now he has improved and was one of our better players this season so why cant we give Allen and Borini a second year to show if they can improve.

  44. If you've got a problem with what I say respond to me directly don't take shots at me from someone else who responds to what i say!
He's had 5 injuries and for a 22 year old I would say that's INJURY-PRONE.They've kept him out for a fair bit of time too.
HENDERSON showed more last season than what FABIO BORINI has shown this year. What game did you see him perform well in this season?

    ReplyDelete
  45. Dude get over yourself, at what point did I take a shot at you? I'm allowed to agree with whoever I want, or should I make sure you haven't spoken on the thread before hand?
I reply to plenty of things people say so as JK would say attack the argument not the commenter please.

  47. Look man i dont want to get into a squabble here, but i replied to him because he's the last one who spoke and i agreed with him about the general conversation that had taken place and rather than replying to multiple people i added it all in one as i dont think i really have to be that specific.

I hardly think its a personal shot at you, i apologise if you think that as it was unintended.

But realistically its a blog, try not to take someone disagreeing with your opinion as a personal shot.

I do apologise if you were offended or annoyed by the way i replied to the conversation it honestly was not my intention to cause those feelings.

  48. I don't take people disagreeing with me as personal attacks.I just like people to be upfront.Anyway,no grudges from my side, let's move on!
