Game on: LFC make 'concrete offer' for Dutch star who wants 'move abroad'.

With Jamie Carragher just two games from retirement, reports this week claim that Liverpool are interested in signing FC Twente defender Douglas Teixeira as a possible replacement.

According to the Daily Mail:

"Liverpool are looking to sign Brazilian defender Douglas on a free transfer.

"Brendan Rodgers has expressed interest after realising Douglas is out of contract".

When quizzed last night about Liverpool's interest in the 25-year old Brazilian, Marcos Paulo Ribeiro - Douglas's Agent - told TMW:

"The Reds have made a concrete offer. Douglas would like a move to Inter Milan, but I have not received any phone calls yet. I think there will be some news only at the end of May"

If Liverpool have put in a 'concrete offer' then Douglas is a serious contender to be one of the Reds signings this summer, but his desire to play for Inter may put the stoppers on any deal.

Douglas definitely wants to leave, and a few months ago, he told Nusport.nl:

"I have spent five good years at this club, and have won everything; Eredivisie title and KNVB beker Cup. It is now time to take the next step in my career. I want to move abroad. I want to be tested every week"

Douglas recently received a call-up to the Netherlands national team after achieving Dutch citizenship, though he's yet to make his international debut.

The defender is available on a free transfer, and with Liverpool possibly restricted to a £20m transfer fund this summer (plus player sales), decent free transfers will probably be high on Rodgers' priority list.

Liverpool recently enquired about Dede, another 6'4 Brazilian defender, but that deal never got off he ground.

  1. Douglas is an "okay" defender, but nothing special. Whether he can challenge our defenders is another question. For a free it's not that bad, providing we don't offer crazy wages and a long term contract.

  2. He wants to go to Inter, let him go to Inter. He's quite a temper on him. Personally I like his style and I'm sure he has the ability to play abroad but I think the step straight to a club that wants to be top four in England seems a bit too big imo. He'd be better off going to a smaller club first for a season or two.

  3. Guess he would be a very good signing. Haven't seen much of him personally, but heard and read many favourable things about the player. The last centre-back we've got from the Netherlands was a joy to watch, too, so here's hoping that we get Douglas and that he can emulate what Hyypiä did before him.

"The British tabloids write many things, when not even the Reds have made a concrete offer. As well as Inter, Douglas would love the solution Inter Milan but got no phone calls ".

    Do you really know Italian?

  5. Another rumour coming from Twente is that Michailov, the Bulgarian goalkeeper we sold to them, was sold with a buyback clause once he qualified for a work permit based on international appearances. He's quoted as saying that he could be moving back this summer...

  8. I am sick to death of our club being linked with no namer players and every other club is being linked with the likes of Cavani, Falcao etc.. FSG better get their shit together and give Brendan more than just £20m to spend.. N likewise Brendan better pull his head out of his ass and not sign anymore Borini's and Allen's!!!

  9. From what I have seen of him, he looks like he has some concentration issues. Seems to really switch off in games so I am not sure I would like to see him at Anfield. I wouldn't mention this guy in the same breath as Hyppia, nowhere near as good. He was also suspended for pushing a referee so might have some discipline issues.

  12. Lads, why would we pay for something if we can get it for free? Players are not poor just because they cost no money you know? Macca I was hardly a bum when he signed for Madrid

  13. Yeah, I thought Jaimie might like to get his teeth into that one.

  14. he could change the thread to say hes not wanted;-)

  15. no he was a greedy tw&t,and we do not pay the wages what the top free transfers want so even then we get the second best, after the big boys have picked over them

  16. he would fit in perfectly at anfield then ,we could groom him for one of those clubs that want to get into the top for and make a profit

  20. Welcome to the world of mediocrity led by Brendan Rodgers. I've said it before that that this season has been mediocre and many of the players are mediocre. Borini, Allen, Downing, Henderson, Carroll - £100m wasted on mediocre players. Whilst downing and Henderson have improved of late, there is no doubt that they were not worth the fees we spent on them.
I think if FSG wanted to make a bold statement, they would get rid of Rodgers, Pascoe and Marsh and bring back Rafa and tell him to make it up with Paco Ayesteran. We should also get back the GK coach who left us cos Pepe hasnt been the same since.

  21. Im sure when they took over FSG said there would be a minimum £30 million to spend each year?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Agreed completely. They will not get rid of Brendan bcoz they chose him bcoz he is "cheap"..Fawlty Towers - tats what we have become.

  25. They also said they'd compete with any club, for any player. They are full of it and my concerns are no longer with BR as manager, but with FSG and the backing or rather 'lack of' backing for him. We will get nowhere with these penny pinching yanks in charge as all that concerns them is stats and how much they can make from selling players on. Not the way to run a football club. Baseball is completely different to football and these muppets aren't grasping that.

    ReplyDelete
  26. God I am sick and tired of all you supposed LFC fans on here always slagging off the club and BR, what you all fail to realise is that we simply do not have the money that Chelsea and man city have and no matter how much you all cry about it, that is not going to change over night. FSG ploughed in with 100m + in there first season and even though we love King Kenny you have to admit he made a right mess of things, so on that evidence if you were FSG would you be willing to risk that again so soon..... The answer to that is no! BR has only had 1 season and you are all moaning already for Benitez to come back, we had some success with him early on granted but even he was running out of ideas and the style of football under Benitez wasnt pretty to watch and as a football fan first and foremost I can safely say I am pleased with the pass and move style BR has got us playing again, the consistency will come in time, we are in a transition period and we should be getting behind the club and the manager. It's not just his decision alone that picks the players anymore and he has a limited budget, sad but true all the same. Give the guy a chance and stop wishing for overnight miracles.

Some people complain no matter what happens. The same people who were saying why didn't we get ,say Demba Ba when he was free, are now moaning that we are looking at free signings, Same ones saying why didn't we sign Michu are saying we're after cheap nobodies now. Same ones saying we are not competing on transfer spend are moaning about the £60m overspent on Carroll, Downing and Henderson.

It occurs to me that barring a top 4 finish and a couple of cups every year, that some people will moan regardless

So far Rodgers has said the right things re recruitment for next year- Quality, not quantity, game changers, players who will make the difference in games etc. Let's see what the summer brings.
We can't go for the likes of Cavani- or compete for now with the top 34 clubs who all have more money than us. FSG tried to do that, and ended up wasting an awful lot of money. Deal with it. Maybe they'll sell to some oil billionaire one day and we'll have pots of it. Till then, let's see if Rodgers has learned from his early overpaying trend and signs more of the likes of Coutinho
One guy even blamed Rodgers for 3 signings Kenny made!
We need at least two defenders, if one is ok as backup for free, that gives us a chance to get a top quality, young signing like De Vrij or maybe the likes of Eriksson. Just beware of one season wonders. Papiss Cisse or Jelavic anyone?

  28. MIKE, instead of tarring people with the same brush the right thing to do is address people individually if you have a gripe.
You must be taking notes on what people say if you can remember what their views were on other signings.
People might of actually seen DOUGLAS play and are showing discontent at us potentially throwing wages away or a spot that could be filled by one of our talented youngsters.
I know this website can be frustrating when you look and every article has negative comments. But if fans who have watched him play want a moan their entitled to do so without being slated by others. It's like pre-empting a car crash before it happens!

  30. How could bringing Rafa back ever be described as bold?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Well said Russell but alas with some people on here you're wasting your breath. But just so you don't throw out the baby with the bath water, there are also genuine fans here who do try and keep grounded and see things in the real world. I think some people here think this is fantasy football and the money we spend is Monopoly money. They look at the mega riches of the two blues and think we should all try and do the same but that is not how football works.

Much as I hate to say a good word about the Mancs, it is undeniable that they built their success on sound footballing principles, developed players and didn't spend huge amounts in the early days. Fergie developed a strong core, sold a few, built up his war chest as his club started seeing success and making more money. They built into a club that could then afford top money for top players. When they did sell for huge money, like Ronaldo, they didn't waste it by buying an Andy Carroll for a silly price. Having said that, they have bought badly a few times too.... It happens in football!

BR is like Fergie was 27 years ago. Sadly in today's football clubs want instant success or the manager is sacked but they can only work with what they've got so if they can't afford a Cavani or a Falcao then that's just the way it is. Being reckless and plunging the club into huge debt is folly and can send a club to the wall. I do not want to be a Leeds Utd that's for sure.

  32. Yeh we shouldn't stick with someone young who suffers injuries because their bodies are still strengthening and growing. We should sack the useless individuals..... Like we should've done with that perpetual sick note Steven Gerrard when we was aged 18-22! We could've saved ourselves from being stuck with him for how long now?

Please tell me you can spot the sarcasm here!!!

    ReplyDelete
  33. You and other critics are not giving yourself room to be respectfully wrong. If next year we get into the top 4, what will u be able to say. The criticism from you is so strong it defies simple logic. We wasted 100mil or more on players under Dalglish that were substandard. The club had no clear plan in terms of a specific type of play, formation, and personnel. So we bought players like charlie adam and carrol, who did not fit us. Now we have a well defined style of play, a preferred formation, and the right personnel( both who we have and type of players we want to buy). This season was disappointing but it is the transition season. To expect a quick turn around is ridiculous , especially considering our start. Try to criticize without the cynical and sarcastic attitude that is unfitting of a real fan,as opposed to a fair weather fan.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Logic does not work with this lot, they have been tricked by the Fifa video game into thinking that rebuilding a team is that easy. I like the direction of the team, there appears to be both a short term (1-3) and long term vision for the club. I am pleased to see I am not alone in this.

    ReplyDelete
  35. under BR who have we bought that was so lowly rated, pay attention to how i said lowly rated as opposed to flop, aka who did we know was going to flop but BR bought. We do not print money like City , Chelsea and Madrid so we can not spent 30 mil on 4 guys every window ,be realistic.

  36. agent speak that really means ' no one has made an offer but were trying to make people bid'. the fact he wants to goto inter means, even if it was true, we would be second choice.

  37. Thankyou....... At last I have heard two honest and knowledgeable people on here in Rob and Jon Doh! I totally agree with you Rob about blooding in our youth that is the way to go and yes of course it will take time, I too don't want to see us end up like Leeds and fall into obscurity or to end up like Man city and have to attract players through paying them obscene amounts of money. I don't want our club to be held to ransom from players who just come for the money, i want to see players coming in to this Historical club of ours, who are passionate about our history and will work hard to get those times back. I agree with Jon when he says he is happy with the direction of the club, cause I am too. Many people on here should spend less time bitching and enjoy what is happening at the club, nobody ever said it would happen overnight!

  38. Hi Beast, I don't want to, and there are new rules governing, starting personal bickering directly. I haven't tarred anybody with any brush, no long term memory is required to see the replies which pretty much avoid the actual topic and concentrate on snipes and moans about the Club, the manager, etc etc.
Of course it's fine to express your disappointment or disagreement on things, I have a problem when almost every post restates the same negative view time and time again regardless of the topic...

  39. lol another everything is brilliant rodgers is a god fan ,speak to the others who agree with you and if we get top 4 next year i will hold my hands up and admit i was wrong because thats the kind of person i am were as if we totally bomb next year it still will not be rodgers fault for some fans, also you mention 2 of kennys signings in your defence of rodgers what about the rest who have all come good and rodgers as not made any dud signings as he

  41. MIKE, I'm on your side. The relentless negative comments get frustrating and can change your mood if it's overbearing and they get together like a flock of sheep.Negativity can be contagious don't catch the bug.
I've always been a believer that you are what you project. Some people are clearly not happy and my guess, it has nothing to do with football!

  42. I am with you there. There is very little point in getting someone who has clearly stated that he prefers somewhere else but will accept if nothing better comes along. We have enough with trying to motivate those already here!
