Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has stuck the knife into Liverpool over the club's Premier League decline, and whilst he's right that the Reds have fallen away since the highs of the 2008-9 season, the defender's memory for results is clearly lacking.
Speaking to reporters after United's 20th Premier League win, Ferdinand - who is clearly on a downward spiral career-wise - hailed his team's 'resilience' this season, and made a comparison with Liverpool's failure to stay the course in 2009. He gloated:
"We played Liverpool a couple of seasons ago when they were fighting for the title.
"We beat them and got to the league before them and they've not been seen since.
"That shows the mentality and character this club has"
Ferdinand's revisionism here is laughable. In 2008-9 - which is clearly the season to which he refers - United did NOT beat Liverpool at all. In fact, the Reds did the double over Alex Ferguson's team:
* Confortable 2-1 victory at Anfield.
* 4-1 annihilation at Old Trafford.
United ended up winning the league, but the fact is they did not beat Liverpool on the way to doing that.
Ferdinand's memory malfunction is hardly surprising though. This is, after all, the guy who in 2003 'forgot' to turn up for a pre-arranged drug test at United's Carrington training headquarters.
Having said that, I find it hard to believe that Ferdinand doesn't remember results from just three seasons ago, especially the 4-1 hammering, which would undoubtedly stick in the memory for a long time.
Get your facts right Rio, eh?

Anyone notice they have the worst fans when it comes to winning (maybe players too :P)? I'd like to just disappear for about a month or two right now...I know too many of them.
ReplyDeleteWow the butthurt is strong in you Jaimie :))
ReplyDeleteHahaha, he's talking about beat Liverpool to the title. As if he cares about individual results. The fact u are even bringing this up makes a laughing stock of ur site and ur club -"yeah, we might not have won the premiership, EVER, but we did the double over u in 2008/09" Brilliant, hahahaha. 20
ReplyDeletethey say that they got 1 billion fans all over the world but here in Asia, half of manu fans don't know what offside is in football..lol.
ReplyDeleteLearn to read. Ferdinand says: We PLAYED Liverpool when they were fighting for the title. We BEAT them AND got to the the title.
ReplyDelete* What part of 'We PLAYED LFC' do you not understand?
* The final part of his statement is two separate things: Beating LFC, *and* winning the title, i.e. he makes a distinction between winning the title and actually beating LFC in the league.
Your powers of basic comprehension are seriously lacking.
I still play the video of us winning the champions league. Goarnnn Stevie. I'm still crying. Bring back Rafa.
ReplyDelete"and they've not been seen since" - would you care to debate that Jaimie?
ReplyDeleteNo! he does not mean that. What is it with football fans and their ridiculous, ingrained denial of the obvious? Once again - Ferdinand says:
ReplyDelete"We PLAYED Liverpool a couple of seasons ago. We BEAT THEM'.
In what Universe does this mean anything other than Man U played LFC (i.e. 'took part in a football match)
He also makes a distinction between playing LFC and winning the title:
'We BEAT them AND got to the title'
This obsession you have with United coupled with the fact you're hit fishing makes your website a joke. I'm a United fan but there are respectable Liverpool sites that at least try not to be sensationalist and try to be impartial. Take a leaf out of their book buddy
ReplyDeleteNitesh you twat...speak for yourself...u talk like you have been travelling the whole of asia speaking to man utd fans about what offside is...are you fucking obsessed with us man utd fans? we do know what offside is...u probably didn't know what it was and might have just learnt what offside is..got excited and decided to put it on man utd fans in asia...you fucking indian scouse twat...please go back to india and munch on pigs liver...u idiotic cunt
ReplyDeleteJaimie K
Why are you so bitter man?? Rio is entitled to say what he wants...and Luis Suarez bites whom he wants...is that not fair enough for you? LOL
We did beat you to the title in that year..thats the most important thing...Did liverpool win the title by beating us 2-1 and 4-1? Answer me man? Isnt that what you Liverpool fans are looking for, the premier league title, which we won 13 times already? Just a plain and simple answer of yes or no will do. Unless you guys know that you are just not good enough and your season will be actually considered a success by beating us? Maybe your training sessions are geared to take on manchester united...your cup final game every season...and by winning against us...actually makes you guys think you are the best....
Look at united and bayern, phyisical strength natural athletes all over the pitch. Shelvey left out for no reason, sturridge dropped senselessly. young Texiera being stiffled and wasted in the under 21s, enrique moved from a successfull cutting in role back to his awful hug the line dead end rubbish, rodgers drained the confidence of young sterling, he will succeed olny if all give all every game.
ReplyDeleteliverpool beat man utd 4-1..ok liverpool must be the best.
ReplyDeleteoh no ferdinand has disrespected liverpool oh no lordy lord.
ReplyDeletesuarez bites ivanovic
Did I mention that in the article? In terms of league status, RF is clearly right about that. I'm just highlighting his inaccurate recall of league results.
ReplyDeleteNo, I have not got it wrong. With respect, you obviously can't read properly either:
ReplyDelete"We PLAYED Liverpool a couple of seasons ago. We BEAT them".
What exactly does 'we played Liverpool' mean?! It means, Man United PLAYED a game of football against LFC'.
It's amazing to me that I have to explain this over and over again :-)
Ferdinand has No class - and there is the difference beween the clubs the fans the players. before you say it. Luis acted on childish impulse, Evra kicked a man when was down (no class).
ReplyDeleteWhere did I say that Ferdinand is not entitled to his view? If he says something in public, he should expect it to be corrected if it's wrong, and that's what I've done here. He got it wrong. End of story.
ReplyDeleteonly one here that are deluded are you "scousers". 20/13. when you gonna win a Premier League ai, big fat 0 so far. when you gonna even challenge us again. loserpool are a joke, forever in our shadow. keep out spending us in the window, we keep earning the trophies.
ReplyDeleteTo be fair Bobby, I also like Shelvey but he hasn't preformed well in the last few games he has played and ne needs to get off that bloddy twitter. You may have a point about Sturridge but we don't see them training all week. I also would have started him against Chelsea though. Not sure you can criticise Rodgers regarding Enrique. He gave him the boot up the arse he needed and he returned to form. The Teixeira comment is a bit naive though, the guys was in a back brace for 6 months and only returned to 1st team footie a few months back and he wasn't playing in the 1st team in Portugal. I think it is right that he plays for the U-21s this season but would expect to see him next season. I also don't see how he has drained Sterlings confidence. Before we signed Coutinho and Sturridge, I think Sterling was 3rd in appearances this season behind Gerrard and Suarez which is too much for a 17 year old. It was absolutely right in my opinion that he was benched when we made the new signings as we don't want to overplay him at that age. He then picked up a slight hamstring strain as far as I remember which kept him out of the picture for a few weeks. I don't see how that can equate to Rodgers draining his confidence. If anything, Rodgers showed a lot of confidence in him by playing him in so many games.
ReplyDeleteI assume you are not a Rodgers fan.
keep "bragging" about your 5, you never have 6.....didnt care about Champs Lge before 2009 did ya, keep living in the past. you never have 6, you never be Club World Champs, you never win even 1 Prem Lge. The future is ours, we will one day have 6 European Cups and you than have nothing to "brag" about at all.
ReplyDeleteHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Loserpool living like it is the 1980's, pathetic murderous racist fans for a pathetic murderous racist club. When you gonna respect the Itlaians you killed and stop milking that 1989 accident.
ReplyDeletesuarez is a joke, a disgusting cheating diving racist biting foul mouth pig of a man child. not player of yuear, not worth anything more than 3m, just a disgrace. bloke me if ya want feller, dont care, the truth will be said.
ReplyDeleteShows Manu players and fans are still obsessed with Liverpool FC. I'd thought they'd be gloating over City.
ReplyDeleteliverpool since 1986 has spent 640m to Fergie's 590m, we win the trophies you sit in mid-table where you belong with that poor over-rated player mr chelsea stevie me.
ReplyDeleteGood man Jaimie. Some people have such short memories. Well done to united on all of their stunning achievements under Ferguson but their decline is inevitable and lads like Ferdinand who, lets face it, is not the brightest, should try to be humble in victory befitting of his club and its traditions. Id like to say we'll be able to compete very soon with United and there will be none happier than me when we beat them to a title and get back to winning ways again. I think we're going in the right direction. Still not sure about Brendan but I hope he could be the guy to bring us there. And meanwhile Ferdinand can get back to his finger painting and playing with his abacus.
ReplyDeleteJamie k is right. He said we "played"... Bit believe ferdi just got bit confused. Either way they did "beat" liverpool... To the tile. Next topic pls
ReplyDeletei guest what we left just enjoy from memories....BUT i still had faith we will be back one day ( may not tat soon )....
ReplyDeleteThat game was fantastic, during one of the best spells of football I can remember as a Liverpool fan.
ReplyDeletewhat?
ReplyDeleteWonderful stuff 20champions. Rivetting So Rio doesn't care about individual results? Maybe he likes to generalise? Maybe details are lost on that highly evolved 'brain' he has? So, if we as Liverpool fans were to generalise and maybe look at the big picture we could say we still have more major trophies than United. We could say we've won the champions league more than United. But we don't want to go down that road do we? You wouldn't have the capacity to comprehend how dull your banter is. Looking forward to United's decline.
ReplyDeleteOne day, we may see this again.... Here's hoping lol.
ReplyDeleteAlso wasnt the 4-1 samwiched in between the dismantling of Real Madrid? I could be wrong.
jaimie leave off rio we all know he has a problem remembering things i think he suffers from short term amnesia, probably why he forgot the drugs test as there could be no other reason;-)
ReplyDeleteabsolute tool
ReplyDeleteIf you are going to troll a site, at least do it well. Your sentences are idiotic, and pretty much makes no sense. Your are just coming off as stupid. Which is then reflecting on to your own fans, who I know think are all as stupid as you. ;-P
ReplyDeletecantona rooney ,and keane were all saints
ReplyDeleteWhat?
ReplyDeleteStill got that chip on your shoulder then. T*sser
ReplyDeleteOh Jaimie, why did you include Man Urd in the title, now you have just attracted all the cretins from the darkest corners of middle earth to 'try' and start an argument lol.
ReplyDeleteWhy can't any of these Utd 'fans' understand the basic concept of structuring a sentence, now I'm no saint when it comes to grammar, but my god, these Utd fans make me look like a wizard with words...
Here, here!
ReplyDeleteWhat's funny about this is your first sentence says 'Rio is entitled to say what he wants"
ReplyDeleteThis also applies to the owner of this blog, they too can say what they want.
Plus Rio is stating false claims....
the future is yours? come back when they discover a new phenomenon drug that increases your life expectancy by 50 years. until then, fergie's retirement just gets nearer and nearer. Yes, you will probably still be successful in life after Ferige, but nowhere near the heights you're achieving at the moment.
ReplyDeleteTo all you gloating Manu fans-
ReplyDeleteCongratulations ,you are now 2 PL titles ahead of us.
Still some way from the 8 titles we led you by, but not bad.
Just remember, football is a cyclical sport, you will not be at the top forever.
Personally, I think it will be harder for you to make up the two CL wins than for us to make up the few PL wins we'll be behind before our time comes again, but we'll see.
You really are poor winners though, that's why you still don't get the respect you might have received otherwise.
Still wouldn't swap your record for ours. Or your fans.
One day the endless winning streak will peter out and the Glazers( or whoever) will cash in your chips and call in your debts. let's see how you cope with that..
What he meant we played Liverpool for the title, beat them for the position in the table and got to the title because beating Liverpool on the table did not mean we certainly were champion...
ReplyDeleteyou what you what you what you what you what
ReplyDeleteyou know why they're sore losers? because most of them are glory hunters who don't know what it's like to go through tough times with a team. The funny thing is though, they will never know, because they'll jump ship and support the next winning team
ReplyDeleteFrankly, there's NOTHING we can do about Man United but try and play better next season.
ReplyDeleteMan United fans should be more worried about there own team than coming on here , concentrate on what happens when Ferguson goes.
Back to my own team LFC, JAIMIE we may not like Rafa and you called for him to go, you also wanted MARTIN O NEIL as a manager.
The same man that almost got Sunderland Relegated please comment on that .
Many LFC fans wanted Rafa out and the REALITY is that we have never been the same side since. That is NOT A COINCIDENCE.
How many of you are HAPPIER NOW with the team NOW than back in 2008-2009?
I don't expect a lot of comments cus it's the UNCOMFORTABLE TRUTH.
I was a Rafa fan, still like him. But we won NOTHING since 2007 under him when the cold hard facts are considered. This was despite having perhaps the best midfield in the PL, perhaps in football at the time with Masch, Gerrard and Alonso.
ReplyDeleteRafa blew his big title chance by settling for draws when he should have been going for wins. We are nowhere near that level now, we have to swallow the pill and rebuild.
But make no mistake, we'll be back...
i,am not
ReplyDeleteThe difference between a Liverpool supporter and a Man United supporter has to be that when we win the title (eventually...........) we will be busy celebrating our victory, they celebrate our defeat. All I can say is, kudos to them and kudos to Fergie. He may not be the most likeable person but he has brought them from a position far behind us, in league titles, and has lead them to overtake us and beat us to 20 league titles first. We have no one to blame for that but ourselves. They lost the title in the last minute of last season when people had written them off long before that and they came back to comfortably reclaim it this year. That is the marking of a top side. They don't stay down. For now we can have high hopes but for now all we can do is aspire to get a squad like theirs and a manager like theirs that will always be there challenging. So congratulations to them. I'd have preferred it to be us lifting the title but if we're not, it's the best team that should and this year it was.
ReplyDeleteIt was Rafa that put in that position in the first place.
ReplyDeleteThat having been said you've not answered by question are you happier now than with the 2008- 2009?
In my view the Wheels came off when PACO left as Assistant to Rafa.
This is not to say I don't support Brendan nor so I think that bringing back Rafa would solve the problems.
My belief is that had the David 'Greedy Guts' Moore and Rick 'Whats in it for me' Parry sold to the Chinese consortium which incidentally is in excess of 90 billion,we would not be having this discussion.
Ferdinand is a f***ing idiot; a bit like some of the clowns who post on here or on the internet in general: I wouldn't waste time entertaining them with answers.
ReplyDeleteMate, it was 11. They had 7 wins when we were on 18.
ReplyDeleteAnd, after the re-emergence of Bayern as a European super power, with last night's result being the wake up call for the rest of Europe, there may be a longer wait than ever for a British team to win it - barring flukes.
rio has a big gob and we all should know what he does with it
ReplyDeletepuff
5 times european champions and lots more silverware that you dont have
ReplyDeleteWouldnt even give him time of day J - the dudes retarded...
ReplyDeletecricket snooker golf boxing and all the rest including football are fixed ................................................
ReplyDeleteI was one of Rafas biggest fans, still am - the guy was unbelievable how he transformed the club off and on the pitch - however he's gone and sadly FSG didnt offer him the job when Kenny left so to me that chapter is closed. BR is now in charge - I believe he is moving us forward - he may not be perfect and WILL make mistakes (name me a manager who hasnt) but we dont have cash injection so we need an excellent coach - the stats this season might not be great reading but it is progression in the right direction
ReplyDeletewe love rafa yes he made mistakes cause hes human but that just made him better and horrible old owners messed up rafas team look at the team we had
ReplyDeleteI played with Rio, Frank etc back at West Ham up until 16 (didnt get a contract) so well placed to say the 'boy' hasnt changed - except he's moved back a couple positions ;)
ReplyDeletebtw - did you know Lampard only used to play max half hour to 45 mins in our games as a teen?! Technical ability was great but his weight/ fitness was shocking!! However family connections ment he was always going to make it...and look at him now..
...all about who you know eh?
Yes it was!!!
ReplyDeleteWho let this fool loose on the internet?
ReplyDeletejaimie i think you have got it wrong. i mean what you have written has completely explained the situation. but can you explain it again? :-)
ReplyDeleteAnd wtf is their ish with trolling liverpool fan sites - obviously the content on their own must be so shite they prefer to read ours!? I can put my hand on my heart and say I 've never logged into a MUFC forum - what type of demented retard does that kind of thing?
ReplyDeleteOh wait theres a few here already I'll ask
i remember when Rio said......oh wait i dont care what Rio says! dont mind me
ReplyDeleteYou've taken two individual quotes out of the full comment u div
ReplyDeletewearing a suarez tshirt when he was found guilty a racist just shows lfc are a racist club anyway. nothing shocks me about that deluded club that spent about £70million more than man utd since 1992 still no title.
ReplyDeleteSaid it before and will say it again, you're a moron. Whether he said they actually beat us in a 90 min match or a 38 game season is neither here nor there. They've won it for the 20th time and instead of sucking it up, you're patheticly pointing out that they didn't manage to beat us in 08/09 as if we should feel as the victorious ones. You make us look extremely petty and bitter...are we becoming Everton now!!?? Everytime I've read one of your articles they have been on par with this drivvle, please do us all a favour and dis-associate yourself with LFC! ...........MUG!
ReplyDeleteWhen I point out Jaimie's statistical errors, my comments get deleted, yet scum can come in here and make Heysel/Hillsborough slurs and declare all Liverpool fans to be murderers and nothing happens..........
ReplyDeleteJK, get off your ass and do some moderating........
And like mot anti Rodgers 'fans' their arguments are mostly illogical and are easily disproved,And I put mostly because there are valid points to be made against him but I dot they out weigh the ones for him
ReplyDeletelol I really cant wait till whiskey nose leaves...Im telling no no matter who you bring in it wont be the same as Fergie,United wont be the same without him and thats when you'll enter the same slide as us.
ReplyDeleteNo, that's not what he meant.
ReplyDeleteWell we had our wilderness years when we failed to appointment the right man when Sir Matt retired and we paid for it! lets hope lighting doesn't strike twice when SAF finally retires, but I believe the club are well aware of that. The problem I see for LFC is how are you able to compete with the likes of City and Chelsea financially eg, both clubs would probably still be in the doldrums if super rich owners hadn't come along so it's going to be hard for you to reach the level of your glory years in the 70s and 80s. Most United fans will be apprehensive of life after SAF but all we can do is enjoy while it last and then wait and see.
ReplyDeleteHi, in 2003 I was working in Vale do Lobo in the Algarve Portugal, my company had an interior design job for a Scottish entrepreneur. We walked in at 9am and Rio Ferdinand together with 2 other England internationals where lying in the living room with wraps of white powder lying everywhere. We got quickly taken outside and went for a coffee so they could leave!
ReplyDeleteNever actually saw him or the other 2 take anything but having about 10 - 15 wraps lying on the table with credit cards and white powder all over the table was a bit of a giveaway! This was in June of 2003.
Yes it is u belligerent fool. You need to read the whole context of the statement in the interview, which I watched in full:
ReplyDeleteRio said that the difference between united and other sides is that when they lose a title, as they did last yr to city, they usually come back stronger the next season, as they have. Whereas other sides find it difficult to maintain a challenge season after season. He then cited the lfc example where he was clearly, absolutely clearly, referring to the title challenge and not, as you are stating, individual games against each other. Now, what you need to do is to apologise for your misinterpretation of the situation and move on.
I just cannot take anything Rio Ferdinand says seriously tbh, anyone who is THAT ugly...does not warrant a reaction!
ReplyDelete:-)
Cheers, couldn't be bothered to check Utd archives.
ReplyDeleteThey're nowhere near being that far ahead of us, Ferguson still dreams of that kind of dominance..
Haha, the 70's and 80's didn't happen then did they? Lol. Relegated to div 2 (as it was then) and still the highest attendances in the country. You guys are funny.
ReplyDeleteAnother drugs test has to be on the cards for quaver lip now, if the pictures of them all out partying are anything to go by. Look on the daily mirror and check out his eyes.
ReplyDeleteI get your point but I mean if Dortmond can do it gives me hope LFC can...I know they dont have the Citys and Chelseas in the Bundesliga but they're more then capable in Europe. All Im saying nothing lasts forever and United WILL fall sooner or later and being honest I think It will be sooner then later because they've been at the top for what 20 years now? I dont want United to fall (Thats treason for me to say that lol) I want Liverpool to get back to uniteds level to make it competitive between the two clubs....(Obviously I want us to beat United every time but I think you will get what I mean...ON another note 10 matches for Suarez is a plain joke,4 for racism,3 for a headbutt yet Suarez gets 10,Wheres the consistency? Id love to know what you have to say regarding the ban ( Im fairly sure I know what you have to say about Suarez though lol)
ReplyDeleteI'll try again (not entirely sure why my last comment didnt pass moderation, this time I'll refrain from calling you a belligerent fool).
ReplyDeleteIf you look at the whole of the interview and put the comment into context then it is absolutely clear that Rio is referring to lfc's title challenge and not individual games. I watched the whole of the interview and it went something like this:
Rio said: the difference between united and other sides is that if they lose out on a title, as they did last year, they usually come back stronger the following season, as they have. Whereas some other teams cannot seem to maintain a challenge season after season. He then cited lfc.
Substance abuse can lead to lapse of memory you know. Facts get jumbled up in the empty spaces in the brain.
ReplyDeleteHa ha two comments both outline how you are wrong, and neither get past moderation. Typical lfc, spout off and then when you're shown up for what you are, in this case delusional then you cry foul.
ReplyDeleteThe basic requirement in this site is english. If you are unable to understand and comprehend basic english go back to your manure sites. Don't waste our time with stupid comments
ReplyDeleteYes. It is tiresome that we have to read it over and over again.
ReplyDeleteActually you mancs are the only ones stupid. Don't blame the rest of the world
ReplyDeleteNothing wrong with whats being said. The request for an explanation AGAIN says it all. You just do not understand basic English do you??
ReplyDeleteWell until then shut.
ReplyDeleteAnd the master of all saints is Ferggotson
ReplyDeleteWe won a cup last season pal.
ReplyDeleteHe meant, we beat them to win the title. As in beating them in the context of league position. And every united player is right to gloat....they have done remarkably well in last 20 years.
ReplyDeleteThe coke does funny things
ReplyDeleteYou've just won the league and your on a LFC site , bit sad dont ya think , you'd prob give up all those title's to be a scouser aye ? Go on admit it , go on , oh and one question what part of Essex are you from ?
ReplyDeleteI think he was joking. I hope.
ReplyDeleteExactly nothing lasts forever. Look at Barcelona, fair enough they are still absolutely quality but a few years a go Bayern would never have even stood a chance. German teams are on the up!
ReplyDeleteThey were snorting sherbert...
ReplyDeleteYeah the PL as a whole should look at the Bundesliga
ReplyDeleteSir Matt? ... Oh, you mean that fella who used to play for Liverpool? Captain wasn't he?
ReplyDeleteaw, haven't you heard of the manchester united bandwagon phenomenon post '93?
ReplyDeletei was having a laugh with JK, as at the start of my comment it says youve completely explained it, then i asked for him to explain it again and put a :-) at the end.
ReplyDeletenow that ive explained it for you i hope you now understand it was a joke
he was joking lol
ReplyDeleteGuys its simple, REALLY simple, Ferdinand did mean that they beat us to the title that year .... Hes just a fucking moron that can't grasp basic English. Read the statement back but talk like a 5 year old with a pause before the and, you'll get it
ReplyDeletethats 40 years ago u idiot most of your current fans were in nappies or still in dads bag back then
ReplyDeleteDo these man utd fans really think we care about there club the simple fact is a care about Liverpool fc and them alone u mancs and bluenoses r all the same more interested in us they u r yourselves your just very sad but just because u care so much I think I rather have my two extra European cups and one for keeps then your two extra league titles oh and sir still remains the only manager to have won three European cups with the same club how long as Fergie been there ? Knocked off r perch ha I don't think so
ReplyDeleteThat's sir bob paisley by the way
ReplyDeleteYou never know, some people are that stupid cough United fans on this page cough
ReplyDeleteYeah you are right, but not many people know that or care. In folklore Sir Matt will always be connected to United and the club he built and the legacy he left. Champ20ns.
ReplyDeleteBut you will continue to be totally irrelevant in Europe until Ferguson is allowed to play CL matches with English refs. That, admittedly, would change everything. Don't hold your breath, though.
ReplyDeleteTo be honest, I think that it would be far better to lose twice to Mancs and win the title at the end... They are on the top and we are going down...
ReplyDeletethe last 20 years!!!!!have'nt you been looking forward to the decline of united for
ReplyDelete
