Liverpool have been linked with several Barcelona players over the last year, including Cristian Tello, Alexis Sanchez, and Iaaac Cuenca, and the latest Barca star to enter the Reds radar is promising midfielder Jonathan Dos Santos.
According to reports in Spain, Italy and the UK today, Liverpool are 'front runners' to sign the 22-year old, who this week revealed his frustration with life at the Nou Camp. He told reporters:
"I want to play more and more often.
"At the end of the season, I will sit down and see what’s best for me.
"Next season is incredibly important to me"
In March, Dos Santos - who was once described a 'marvellous' player by Pepe Guardiola - reveled that he turned down a January move to Sevilla, but conceded he may have to move on. He told reporters:
"It was difficult for me to turn down a club like Sevilla but I am happy at Barca. I’m learning from the best in the world. I still don’t know what’s out there, we’ll see in the summer. You don’t know what could happen.”
Dos Santos' current Barca deal expires in 2015, and as is the custom in Spain, the youngster has a massive €30m release clause in his contract.
With Brendan Rodgers in charge, Liverpool's repeated interest in Barcelona youngsters makes perfect sense, but the brutal truth is he doesn't have the juice to attract these stars of the future to Anfield.
To players like Tello, Sanchez and Dos Santos, mid-table Liverpool must look like a massive step down from Barcelona, and although the Reds have an amazing European history, these players are probably not even aware of it.

Doubt they would know little about Liverpool regardless they are still a massive club but the fact there is no C.L definitely hurts.
ReplyDeletear e we ever going to sign a proven world class player with experience again or are we just going to be a development club ,because imo if we sign all these yongsters that were linked to if one becomes world class they will be off somewhere else for the money and success
ReplyDeleteDo you know the difference between speculations/rumors and actually LFC saying we have signed these players???? Or you just like to Complain all the time??? Jaime is just speculating my friend he never said we will actually acquire the player. This month alone LFC have been linked with almost every player except of course the expensive ones.
ReplyDeleteof corse i do but if were constantly linked to these kind of players it probably means its the kind of signings were looking at signing, when was the last time we signed a player who really got the juices flowing infact when was the last time we were seriously linked to one, don,t get me wrong coutinho as been a good signing but i am on about someone like eriken or hazzard that kind of player that the other big clubs want
ReplyDeleteNo thanks, when I saw his brother at spurs he didn't do well, he could go down the same path.... So I think we should pass.
ReplyDeleteDidn't bother Coutinho and he has done rather well, ask the Australian fans about Liverpool?, 103,000 tickets sold in 24hrs for the Melbourne game, 20,000 of which are members of the MCG. The pull of LFC is huge, wait and see what happens in Indonesia????...............any quality youngster knows LFC give you game time, who else does at top level????
ReplyDeleteIs this guy Giovanni Dos Santos' brother?
ReplyDeleteOk nemesis!!! Well I see your point but you have to understand some of these stories are FAKE, some of the writers don't like our team so they will say things to make people like yourself mad. For example, the Metro have never linked LFC to any top top player. And we don't need to spend 30 to 50 Mil on a player, well we all know what happened when we did, Pastore and Torres 50 Million they have not set the world ablaze. I think Erikson will come to LFC(finger seriously crossed). LFC needs some MONSTERS in the back and someone who can just NET!!! The middle is ok for now...And P.S. I like these system of "committee" cause it will put BR in check with his buyings. Some managers sometimes goes with who they know and Allen and Borini have not live up to the hype that BR gave them.
ReplyDeleteWell, yeah it's a step down at the moment from Barcelona... but the reason they would be willing to do it is PLAYING TIME!!! Most of these guys are not going to walk into the starting 11 of the current top clubs in Europe..
ReplyDeletei committee is a joke no top manager would have it hence why we ended up with rodgers just glad to have the job,
ReplyDeletewe have neither the money or charisma to attract these types of players long term..we are becoming a feeder club/ stepping stone ...lets be honest what can rogers teach these guys and in a couple of seasons when gerrard and suarez have gone we will have no world class players
ReplyDeleteand the good ones
ReplyDeletegilstrap i find your comments disturbing i take it your not behind rodgers you really need to give your head a shake the man is a genius, his tactical awareness is second to none, his eye for talent is spellbinding and his charisma is outstanding,if he ever left the club we could never replace him, they always say no one is bigger than the club and legends have moved on and been replaced, but i really do think we would struggle to replace the messiah ;-)
ReplyDeleteSorry there nemesis but all top managers have people who he works with and who actually challenges him when a decision he makes will not help the team. SAF has them just they don't broadcast it. Barcelona has them, it was not Pep making all the decisions. What do you think Director of football and scouts are?? You starting to sound like a Chelsea fan. Let's Blame everything on the manager. That's why LFC fans had to show them how to support a manager and we were singing RB name when LFC played Wigan. And we will sing his name tomorrow. That's what make LFC true fans great! We are smarter. Quick fixes are for bandwagon fans they just support a team or manager when things goes their way. Stick with the manager until there is a change. If not Chelsea does quick fixes you can support them for now until that Russian money runs out!
ReplyDeleteim worried m8 rogers ans fsg have dumbed them down so much they will take get beat 3 nil tomorrow as progress....i thought we where liverpool not bolton
ReplyDeleteTrue!!!
ReplyDeletewe were lfc now were bolton but hey ho its progress
ReplyDeleteThe committee brought Coutinho and Sturridge to Anfield in January. Based on that, I think it is a good thing.
ReplyDeletejohnny the committee was not going then and if they were they overpaid for sturridge ,imo
ReplyDeletedreamer rafas name will be sung louder than your golden boys tomorrow
ReplyDeleteGano the tickets available to the public went in ten minutes
ReplyDeletewhats with all the neagativety? if you support rafa so much why do you not go and support chelsea!! This club has fallen alot over the past years and if you can see that it has improved considerably under over the past two your a fool!! the only thing your narrow mind can see is instant success and unfortunately it doesnt work like that cause the teams around us are constantly improving but finally we can start to see the shoots of revovery and who knows maybe next year we can give it a real go to get back in top 4!!!
ReplyDeleteYep.
ReplyDeleteAnd what will that mean??? It will not change a thing! He is not going to become the LFC manager. Gerard Houllier named was sung when KK was coaching! This guy think we are in the movies!
ReplyDeleteWe've been on this progress ship for the last 5 years..time to hop off and find dry land. We need to get rid of the drab that is Shelvey and Henderson. Shelvey is arguably the worst player to ever put on a red shirt, and Rodgers keeps playing him! On a positive note though, i think we're going to edge Chelsea today, come on you Redmen!
ReplyDeletei would like a win today but i have no confiddence whatsoever
