'I'll consider options' - €10m 'talent of the year' winner responds to LFC rumours.

At the beginning of April, Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf reported that Liverpool are monitoring Ajax star Toby Alderweireld, and claimed that the highly-rated central defender would 'prefer' a move to Anfield this summer. Alderweireld has now responded to the transfer speculation, and it's not looking good.

In an interview with De Telegraaf last week, Ajax director of football Marc Overmars confirmed that Liverpool scouts are 'often present' at the Amsterdam Arena, so it's conceivable that Alderweireld may be on the scouting list.

Other reports claim that Liverpool allegedly have 'an edge over the competition', and in mid-April, €10m-rated Alderweireld told Dutch reporters:

"Usually I do not want to play for an English club that’s in mid-table, but, unlike Newcastle, Liverpool meet my criteria"

Speaking to reporters on Monday, the 24-year old said backpeddled on his earlier comments:

"I never said that Liverpool will be my next club. There is no truth to this. At the end of the season, however, I'll consider my options"

With the Reds rumoured to be chasing £20m-rated Christian Eriksen too, perhaps a £30m double-swoop is on the cards this summer?

I wouldn't put too much stock in Alderweireld's public comments - he's just stating a fact, i.e. he did not state that LFC would be his next club. That doesn't mean there isn't something going on behind the scenes.

In 2010 - whilst Luis Suarez was still at Ajax - Alderweireld won the Ajax 'talent of the year award'. Worth a bid in the summer, or are the likes of Williams, DeVries, Sakho et al better options...?

  1. Alderweirelds not going to commit himself to anyone until he has had time to study what is on offer, the same goes for every player linked to Liverpool !! every rumor is only that, if you are looking for a straight answer you won't get one until the transfer window is over!!! unbearable isn't it?

  3. Looks light years ahead of the likes of Williams. Hope he comes, but a top 4 offer would likely see him go elsewhere for CL football
