Juventus continue to be linked with a summer move for Liverpool striker Luis Suarez, and every week, it seems someone else comes out of the woodwork proclaiming that a move to Serie A would be 'perfect' for the Uruguayan. This week' FIFA Agent Lodovico Spinosi is the latest to jump on the 'Suarez to Juve' bandwagon.
In an interview with TMW today, Spinosi claimed:
"Suarez would be perfect playing for Juventus under Antonio Conte. He has a great desire to do well. He's a warrior he would transform Juve's attack"
In March, FIFA agent Giovanni Branchini - who 'works closely' with Suarez's Agent, Pere Guardiola, told Tuttosport
“Do Juventus have what it takes to convince him? Certainly. Suarez must leave Liverpool as it is counter-productive to remain, outside the Champions League and away from the prospect of growth in his peak.
“Suarez needs to fully understand the appeal of the Bianconeri, what Juve have represented, do represent and will represent. They are a huge club and do not need to beg anyone, as great players already dream of going there"
Former Italy international Marco Tardelli also believes that Suarez would be the ideal solution to Juventus' attacking problems. He told Tuttosport:
"It's obvious that a striker who scores 20 goals a season would be a good addition for any team. Good players are not cheap, though. Suarez would be ideal due to his power, technique and directness, but I'd say signing him could be a complicated matter"
Suarez seems happy at Liverpool, and in an interview with the Daily Mail on the 1 February, Suarez said:
"If you want to know what will happen to me if we don't qualify for the Champions League, then I will say this: I have a contract with Liverpool and I am very happy here. I will stay"
Dubious reports today claim that Brendan Rodgers is willing to sell Suarez for £40m this summer, Reds legend Jan Molby believes it will be hard to turn down such a huge offer. He said:
“If someone offers over £40million, Liverpool will have a big decision to make. As for Suarez, he has to look after his own career and at some stage something may come along which he believes is impossible to turn down. You only have one career as a player and he’s entitled to weigh up his options.”

Llorente will probably replace Matri. They still have Giovinco, Anelka and Quagliarella. They maybe got room for Suarez, especially if they don't offer Anelka an extension. Would be some team if they had Suarez and Llorente up front, with that quality central midfield behind them.
ReplyDeleteCan see Suarez putting up without CL for another season but me thinks he will be off, if we don't finish in top 4 next season and rightly so, as he should be playing CL football. If Juve came calling with a £40m offer this summer, I think the club and player would be tempted.
If Juve come in with a bid for him I hope we send a fax back with a picture of the entire board, manager, coaching staff and playing staff with their backs turned towards the camera and both their middle fingers stuck up in the air.
ReplyDeleteIf we sold Torres for £50 million, when he was playing poorly. Then we could easily ask for £50 million for Suarez.
ReplyDeleteI dont think we should sell him. But if an offer came in around that value, then it would be very hard to say no. I hope he stays for one more season, just to see how we do, after a bit more work under Rodgers. And then if we dont, make CL football, he could leave.
I really hope we hold on to him for another season at least. If we don't I would have no bad blood towards him because he has always been fairly honest towards the fans, although being asked the same question every other day is going to bring up contradictory answers of some sort.
ReplyDeleteAs for Branchini, he should stick to talking about his own players, regardless of how closely he works with Guardiola.
I don't think £40M is enough (crazyfootballmoneywise). Torres excelled with a great team around him, not so much Suarez yet he is still firing. £50M.
ReplyDeleteJuventus simply don't have 40m to spend a player so I dont see where these rumours keep coming from.
ReplyDelete"Andrea" Conte. hahaha
ReplyDeleteGiussepi Triapatoni, who's wife maria minds the bambino of the agent branchini's neice Carlita says that Saurez is a going to leave, dont tell anyone Mario.
ReplyDeleteAre you crazy? course not, Suarez is staying, we are building a exciting young team, he wants to be part of it, end of matter, also 40 million? Should be 60-70 million before we even take any club seriously.
ReplyDelete(IMO) If Suarez was to ask to leave, bidding would have to start at 50mil, given his age and his combative style blended with outrageous skill and energy.
ReplyDeleteClubs should be lucky to get him for 50mil because in truth, judging him by the worlds best (Messi &Ronaldo), with all the world class stars littered around them, (IMO) Suarez is not a million miles away in fact i would go as far as saying he could be as good if not better than the two mentioned.
So what am i trying to say?, basically clubs would be lucky to get him for 80-100mil in today's current market and given the price touted around for mediocre players over the past couple years, this price would be a snip.
Anyway, Suarez is not for sale and given that the Italian league is weakening year by year brings me to believe it is complete speculation and even if it were true, i would not even pick up the phone unless they were willing to accept my valuation (80-100mil) at least....
The agent was saying how going to Juventus in order to play in the CL and reach his peak is a no brainer.. Under close inspection, that argument holds no power because the Serie A is a very weak league and Italian teams continuously get eliminated early from the CL. From Suarez's personal point of view, a move to Germany would make more sense. However, if we really want to move forward, we cannot keep on selling our best players unless we are sure that we have players lined-up who can fill the void immediately.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. 40ml was how much Suarez was valued last year after an above average season. By this season's standards, I would accept nothing less than 60ml.
ReplyDeletejuventus is a big step down from liverpool and bayern is a side track IMO. champs league footie is not that big of a deal just look at celtic theyre a selling club but they can offer champs league every year? theres no point in even being in the comp if you havnt got a chance of winning it. its not these two teams we have to worry about its when madrid and barca start showing an intrest which WILL happen, its all going to come down to if FSG are commited to liverpool or not. if we accept a bid for suarez then we cant expect him to stay commited if where willing to sell him.
ReplyDeleteif rogers sells suarez thats confirmation that we are no longer a top tier club....be warned campers once you start accepting top 10 and no silverware as '' progess '' or "' transition period "' its game.Other other clubs like villa ,leeds .notts forest started to accept this and thought it was a good idea to sell there best players for big bucks with out replacing with BETTER PLAYERS AND LOOK WHERE THEY ARE
ReplyDeleteagree m8 fsg have to show a sign of intent this summer or we will end up a midtable club who will be thrilled to make the europa league once every 3 to 4 years
ReplyDelete40m is great as long as spend the money you get on a better player..if you dont you are accepting mediocraty
ReplyDeleteIf we got something stupid like 65-70mil we could use that money to make us title contenders OR cement our place in the midtable hell,But that said no matter what the price I hope we keep him for at least another season
ReplyDeleteWell they've got more chance than us and they're about to win their second consecutive title.
ReplyDeleteJuve are like Inter a few years ago- they're a good team, but they lack genuine world class talent. Then Inter bought Eto'o and Sneijder. If they bring in Suarez and maybe someone to play wide, they'd go along way to being genuine challengers. Llorente can't hurt either.
ReplyDeleteIt's well and good saying we shouldn't take anything less than 50m or 60m but doesn't Suarez have a 40m release clause in his contract? I might be wrong but if I'm not and he wants to leave then it's unlikely we'll get any more than that for him. All he has to do is agree to move to the club of his choice and they'll only have to pay the 40m. I hope I'm wrong on the figure and would welcome being corrected.
ReplyDeleteDitto. Not just historically, also in the present, especially with the rise of Bundesliga, Bayern are one of the best clubs around. Brilliantly run club as well. Like you mention, in Guardiola they have a manager that was in charge of one of the best football teams of all time as well as that having a knock on effect on the national team's success too.
ReplyDeleteAt this moment in time, it is an absolute no-brainer for a player with ambition and that is Bayern. Bayern nor Juventus are a step down from Liverpool, sadly. Yes, we have dropped down that much in the food chain.
Agreed - anyone who says Bayern is a side step and Juve is a step down is dillusional about where LFC stands as a club right now - Juve are in the quarters as are Bayern; even if LFC were in the champions league this year, I doubt they would have got past the group stage given our form in the early season.
ReplyDeleteRumours are rumours and they will always be there; realistically though, I agree with Cody that Juve don't have the 40M to buy him.
Again, ditto. Juve have a very competent side and one of the best central midfields, after Barca's. Like the 90s, I don't see them fading from CL spot in the league for a good while yet, unless they shoot themselves in the foot with corruption again. They just need a few players like Llorente and Suarez to take them up a level. Whereas we need a truckload of players!
ReplyDeleteJuve's finances are improving, they made a big loss in 10/11 of 90m+ euros but that figure was halved in 11/12. and add in the CL money they achieved with reaching the knockout stages this season, they certainly are but yep, they aren't rolling in the money. If they hadn't reached the knock out stages of CL this season, I would have said no chance of them taking the financial risk to go all out for Suarez.
ReplyDeleteItalian football is in a mess with serious financial problems about to impact on even their biggest clubs. The Italian league has gone from being the world's best in the 1990s to arguably europe's fourth or fifth best. Next year the premier leagues' new deal kicks in. It will be the largest tv deal in the history of European sport. The days of top footballers opting for Italy over the premier league are over for the time being. My guess is that Suarez will give liverpool one more season to qualify for the champions league. In order for him to move in the next window liverpool would have to receive a mind blowing bid in excess of the £50,000,000 we received for the 28 year old declining Torres. It is simply not credible to suggest that he will move to an inferior league for 33% less than his market value.
ReplyDeleteTorres moved to another PL club. Always harder to prise away a player from a club in the same league, hence a premium. So it is hardly a reliable precedent. Football has too many variables to think so simply like 'player X went for a certain amount, so this means player Y will go for a certain amount based on the price of player X'. 'Simply not a credible' correlation to use.
ReplyDeleteJuventus have made big improvements on their finances. They recorded a loss of 90m+ euros in 10/11, than 11/12, they halved that loss, recording under 50m euro loss. They have announced a profit of 11m euro profit for the first half of the 12/13 financial year. Now add in the money they will receive from making the CL knockout stages. They will probably still record a loss for 12/13 but won't be a big one, certainly not a loss that will hamper them that badly. Yes, the country isn't a good state but Juventus are doing fine, more than fine. So am not sure about your doom&gloom spin regarding the bigger clubs in Italy, especially Juventus.
It is simply very hard to get a fee over £40m these days. Only 4 players in the last 5 years have gone for more than £40m. It is a tough ask to get more than £40m in today's financial climate and the impact of FFP.
If has been widely reported in Italy that Juve can only afford Suarez if they make the semi finals of the Champions League as that would bring in the required amount of money......but after losing 2-0 in the first leg doubt theyll make it past the quarters.
ReplyDeleteWhat other media outlet has reported, other than the Daily Mail? Even then, all it takes is one story in some toilet paper like Daily Mail for loads of other media outlets to run the same story.
ReplyDeleteI really don't think it’s a matter of if but when a huge bid comes in for Suarez. My biggest concern is how we go into this transfer window because if we've done our big name business early (and big names are the only way we'll keep him I think) he will stay. But if we start dragging our feet into mid August and our targets are revealed to be "prospects" and not "quality" then he'll go and I wont blame him. I like to believe LS will be loyal to us, but after seeing Owen and Torres leave in the way they did, most times ambition is held higher than loyatly. But in this case, if we can't show ambition to LS with our summer business, then I don't see why he should continue to be loyal as we would only be hindering his progression as a footballer. Its literally in the board, scouts, and manager's hands now
ReplyDeleteTrue. Pity from my point of view, but true.
ReplyDeleteIf you think Liverpool have better players than Juve you know absolutely nothing about Juve. Step down my bum.
ReplyDeleteJuve is a big step down from Liverpool, eh? Boy, do you need to learn something about football. Try watching a game without those big red glasses you wear. Your spelling and grammar need an overhaul too.
ReplyDelete60 millions plus...wankers!!!
ReplyDeletePay 60 mil pounds and LS will be delivered to the doorstep of Juventus in a shiny white horse.
ReplyDeleteOnce you get into that kind of money then I'd guess everyone will at least not dismiss the matter out of hand. The only question is if you can replace Suarez confidently with that kind of money. Torres is a perfect example of a big money transfer gone horribly wrong. Even if we had 40 million to find a replacement striker, how confident can anyone be that they'll match what Suarez gives on the pitch? It's not just the goals this season, it's the unrelenting 90 minutes of desperate energy he gives you that very few players can offer. It's part of his make-up, part of what also drives him to do idiotic things from time to time. He has a passion for football that I'm sure not too many other players can give us. And even with all the talk, all the suggestion that he might want to play elsewhere, even the suggestion that he's actively considering it, he has never given less than 100% for the team. He doesn't sulk for long periods, he doesn't go missing, he presses as well as any other attacking player ... his character is sometimes questionable but it's also what makes him so unique and valuable.
ReplyDeleteIt always begs the question for me: if another team is willing to pay big money for a player then they think this is how much it costs to get someone of his quality. Which means, unless they're complete idiots, it would cost the same amount of money to replace him. And then you have to ask yourself why you would bother. Why sell a player and risk his replacement not being as effective when you're not likely going to make any money out of it. There just isn't any point. Unless Juve or someone else are willing to pay well over the odds and Suarez actively wants to leave then it's a non-issue. He's too important and it's not worth the bother.
40m pfffft Luis is worth a minimum of 50m but probably more. Also the old lady do not have the kitty for such a move.
ReplyDeleteI think some people under estimate the gloss Liverpool FC still has. When LFC bought LS, not many clubs were in for him and he wasn't spoken about in glowing terms. Most only remembered him for the hand ball which put Ghana out of the 2010 WC or one of his other misdemeanours at Ajax - many hadn't even heard of him before that. Having been at LFC for only a short period of time, everyone's talking about him and every club in the world would love to have him. His value has shot up and he's flavour of the month! That's what Liverpool FC still does for a good player's reputation and career!
ReplyDeletegood to see you come on here to provide english lessons, numpty.
ReplyDeleteliverpool is in the prem and improving juve are in serie a which is an awfull league to play in, suarez would go from world class to just another player in that league. and when i write IMO thats what it means, madrid and barca are the only clubs out of england that are ahuge step up which is what he needs.
There is no-one we could buy to replace him whatever price we get. messi and ronaldo won't be coming so why would we let him go for 40 50 60 mill if it'll just make us worse? He will only go if he wants to leave and he's already said he'll stay.
ReplyDeletethis comming from a liverpool fan, what a load of hog wash!!!
ReplyDeleteNice insight on the new tv deal!!
ReplyDeleteJuventus, Bayern step downs/side steps!!! This is crazy, Liverpool have potential, but last year they finished 8th, this year they are sitting at 7th. Are u all feckin blinkered?????
ReplyDeletelol ryan take the red tinted glasses off. You are clearly the numpty!!!
ReplyDeleteYou gotstabe init to winit :-)
ReplyDeletehes an english teacher numpty;-)
ReplyDeleteTo the best of my knowledge Buffon is Juve's top earner on 6m euros per year, even if Suarez were to earn more than Buffon it would be significantly less than Liverpool are able to offer.Despite our poor run in recent seasons we remain way ahead of Juve in the Deloitte European money list and any increase that Juve enjoy due to champions league revenue will be more than exceeded by liverpool's increased revenue from the new premier league deal. The improvements Juve have made recently have been achieved by increasing turnover and reducing costs. Spending 25% of their annual revenue on Suarez then adding his wages on top does not appear to fit Agnelli's plan. Expect to see a continued exedous of players from serie A to the French, Spanish and English top divisions. The years of scandal and corruption mean that Italian football is an unappealling prospect for high profile investors and two or three years are not enough to ris that stain.
ReplyDeleteWhat's the point in selling him even if you got 100 million all that happens are other clubs when liverpool enquire about them they will just inflate there prices of there players just like what happend when we got Andy Carroll and I think he understands how important for liverpool he is but u never say never in football a case of wait and see I guess everyone
ReplyDelete
