LFC 2-2 CFC: From the ridiculous to the sublime - Suarez BITES Ivanovic, then scores...

Daniel Sturridge drops to the bench for today's Premier League game with Chelsea, and although it's an understandable decision by Brendan Rodgers, I'm sure Sturridge will be extremely unhappy to miss out against his former club.

FULL TEAM: Reina, Johnson, Carragher, Agger, Enrique, Lucas, Gerrard, Downing, Coutinho, Henderson, Suarez

SUBS: Jones, Skrtel, Coates, Shelvey, Coady, Assaidi, Sturridge

CHELSEA TEAM: Cech, Azpilicueta, Ivanovic, Luiz, Bertrand, Ramires, Mikel, Hazard, Mata, Oscar, Torres

SUBS: Turnbull, Lampard, Moses, Ferreira, Terry, Ba, Benayoun

How many other top teams leave one of their star strikers on the bench for massively important games?

In my view, Sturridge's omission just underlines yet again the abject failure of Rodgers' performance in the transfer market this season.

If Rodgers had faith in Sturridge, he'd be starting against Chelsea, it's as simple as that. Instead, £12m worth of striker will rot on the bench (again), which begs the question, why buy him in the first place?

You don't see Ferguson, Wenger et al leaving the likes of Rooney, RVP, Giroud etc on the bench in games against teams in the top four, yet Rodgers - who bought Sturridge to ease the pressure on Suarez - thinks it's a good idea.

Liverpool have scored only three goals in the last four games, and it's a HOME game. Starting more defensively (i.e. with Downing, who according to some fans provides more defensive cover) shouldn't be an option (IMO).

Additionally, dumping Sturridge when he's in the midst of a goal drought (6 hours and counting - same with Suarez) is not effective man-management.

If it's a form issue, then why is Downing starting ahead of Sturridge?

* Sturridge: No goals assists in last four apps.
* Downing: No goals assists in last FIVE apps.

Downing's drought is longer than Sturridge's, yet he starts the game. How does that make sense?

Predicting a 1-1 draw, Jamie Redknapp told Sky Sports:

"With United, Spurs and Everton all featuring in Chelsea's run-in they will be hoping to take something from this game, but Liverpool caused them plenty of problems last season, with wins home and away in the league and held them to a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge earlier in this campaign"

FULL TIME: LFC 1-2 Chelsea

Sturridge made a huge difference when he came one. Obviously should've started. Oh, and Luis 'The Cannibal' Suarez decided it would be a good idea to bite Branislav Ivanovic, the second time in his career he's been caught doing that:

And people wonder why I'm always on Suarez's case. The guy is a disgrace. Whether it's biting, stamping, diving, or deliberate handballs (another of which came today), he regularly brings shame on LFC.

Who cares though? Suarez scored the equalising goal, so hypocritical, enabling fans will *again* turn a blind eye, and come up with endless excuses to justify his actions.

Now, I'm just waiting for LFC's typically defensive response to the incident. I fully expect Rodgers to do his usual coward's act and defend Suarez and/or accuse the media of conducting some kind of witch-hunt.

  1. You cant complain about sturridge sitting on bench, hes been awful and lost his place by his own, time to learn some lessons, apart from gerrard and suarez no one has a guaranteed place in this team I think.

I don't agree with your view, Chelsea have so many attacking players, having downing over Sturridge gives us more defensive cover, having Sturridge on the bench is a option if it doesn't go are way!

    ReplyDelete
  3. If Sturridge is so awful, and can lose his place so easily, why the feck did Rodgers spend £12m on him?

    ReplyDelete
  4. Not a very good analysis of Rodgers. You should really try to understand the situation more before jumping to your guns.

    ReplyDelete
  5. The team has scored only 3 goals in the last 4 games (with two no-score draws); we're at HOME - playing more defensive shouldn't even be an option. The bottom line is if Rodgers trusted Sturridge, he'd be starting. Surely Sturridge was bought to win LFC points in big games like this, otherwise what's the point in buying him?

  6. jaimie can you stop putting posts up about predicted teams i,am sure rodgers comes on here and reads the posts and go,s with the majority lol;-) imo the best team to start with sturridge as been poor lately and may prove to be better coming of the bench when he will still have fresh legs,

    ReplyDelete
  7. i think its all down to form, Sturridge hasnt been playing well as of late and i see no problem dropping a player to the bench if he's not performing. I think Podolski has played primarily off the bench as of late also, so its not too shocking to see Sturridge on the bench.

    ReplyDelete
  8. i,am glad you asked that question its been prying on my mind for weeks, but thought i would keep quite about it as not to upset the apple cart;-)

    ReplyDelete
  9. Your point on Wenger and Ferguson is extremely misguided. At the beginning of the season, Giroud was left many times on the bench. More recently Podolski has been out of favour. Ferguson has also left Rooney on the bench a few times. Looking away from those two, one of Ba or Torres is always on the bench. The current champions have continuously dropped one of Tevez, Dzeko or Aguero.

I think Sturridge has been a decent signing and its extremely misguided and pessimistic to believe that all his signings should immediately start. Rodgers and knowledgeable fans understand that the squad needed improving and that we needed more options off the bench, which he has worked on. Sturridge is young and will get his opportunity, but for now the combination of Coutinho (coincidentally a new signing) Downing and Suarez is proving successful. There is no need to necessarily have a negative view on every single decision Rodgers makes. Let's support the team rather than encourage pessimistic views continuously.

  10. You serious? Who knew he would be like this, when you sign a player you hope the best of him, no one signs a player saying oh wait will he shine will he be a massive flop etc. Normally people watching football should know about this.

    ReplyDelete
  11. You are wrong Jamie. That is our best line at present and your comment about podolski is also incorrect, Wenger drops him all the time, he has barely started since christmas.

    ReplyDelete
  12. No, your post is misguided. Perhaps you should learn to read and comprehend properly. I said, Wenger/Ferguson don't leave their strikers on the bench for games against teams in the TOP FOUR.

And don't tell me what to post. I'm so sick of people bitching just because I have a different view. If you don't like it, LEAVE, and go and bitch somewhere else.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Since when has 433 been a defensive formation? This formation and team has seen us play the best football in the league and the best we've played since 2009. You genuinely believe that 442 would be more attacking and suit us better?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Because the guy has the one thing none of our strikers have..genuine pace, he needs to polish his finishing

    ReplyDelete
  15. Hey JK I don't think it's that big a deal. Sturridge was poor out wide last time out, and generally hasn't been deserving of a starting spot. So a more natural replacement of Downing isn't a bad option. It's better then BR forcing Sturridge in the team with Downing, meaning we have a midfield 2, and that was an epic failure against Southampton. I think this is the correct option, and Sturridge can make a big impact off the bench, especially with his pace.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Such a naive write up. It's not as simple as just picking most attacking/obvious/expensive 11! Fergie dropped Rooney for the scum's biggest game of the season, podolski is often benched, dzeko and tevez warmed bench a lot this year too.

    ReplyDelete
  17. That is what managers/scouts etc are for. There are thousands of strikers in the world, and Rodgers could've chosen someone different. He chose Sturridge, and when he signed, he raved about how much faith he has in him etc. Now, he's proven that's not the case. Rodgers' transfer policy is pi$$ poor this season.

    ReplyDelete
  18. agreed jaime, sturridge needs games as all strikers to help with confidence, what is really left to loose at this stage of season , rodgers has more or less said he doesnt mind not being in europe so maybe a couple of the younger guys should also get a bit of game time

    ReplyDelete
  19. Are you like marmite because it's a bit strong, it packs a punch? Or am I totally off? :P It's the same as vegemite right?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Where did I say that? Someone in another comment said playing Downing provides more defensive cover, and that's where my 'defensive' comment comes from.

    ReplyDelete
  21. your right lol don,t no about veggiemite its a thick paste with a strong salty beef taste;-)

    ReplyDelete
  22. No, it's your post that is misguided. Perhaps you should learn to read and comprehend properly. I said, Wenger/Ferguson don't leave their main strikers on the bench for games against teams in the TOP FOUR.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Hahaha awesome! yeah vegemite is the same but it's not beefy, it's thick and salty though. May as well have a midnight snack while I'm waiting for the game...

    ReplyDelete
  24. Jamie, why did you delete my comment pointing out your error about podolski being constantly dropped by Wenger, and barely starting a game since christmas. I see now you have edited your article and removed your incorrect statement. This is poor form.

    ReplyDelete
  25. maybe Sturridge still has that thigh injury going on? I don't agree with BR's choice though, sturridge gives liverpool apace in the front that coutinho/downing/suarez don't have. Sturridge's pace allows Suarez to roam more freely also

    ReplyDelete
  26. I think Coutinho is part of the problem. I don't think anyone was expecting him to become so integral to our team so quickly and when he and Sturridge are on the same team they don't link up too well. When he is not playing all the play goes through Suarez and Sturridge. Obviously not his fault but something that needs to be sorted out.
I disagree with your statement about Ferguson and Wenger, Ferguson has chosen Welbeck ahead of Rooney many times. I also think that It can make more sense sometimes to have a quality player on the bench. It can provide a good injection of quality as the game draws on.

    ReplyDelete
  27. sturridge isnt in form. therefore he isnt playing, Rodgers bought him to play when he was in form. If he carried on playing an out of form player (allen) you would be moaning

    ReplyDelete
  28. if we do not win today no european football next season garunteed at least rodgers as got is wish as he said it was a blessing with a bit of luck we can go out of the domestic cups early and we can have another season over by january next year, come on you mighty reds

    ReplyDelete
  29. No, I edited it because Podolski is not a striker, and my point is about strikers.

    ReplyDelete
  30. enjoy and hope you enjoy the match whatever the result

    ReplyDelete
  31. I think we shouldn't be too quick to judge Rodgers about dropping Sturridge. I'm none too pleased myself, but considering the amount of niggling injuries Sturridge seems to pick up, I like to think that he is just being cautious and building his fitness for next season.
You have to bear in mind, Sturridge has never consistently started games, over the duration of a season, in his whole career.

    ReplyDelete
  32. if sturridge suarez and coutinho passed to each other we would score 4 every game. they are all heads down run and shoot. selfish waste.

    ReplyDelete
  33. you clearly don't know Fergie. Very emotional reaction even for Jaime

    ReplyDelete
  34. Who says he isn't in form? Suarez also hasn't scored in 4 games; Downing hasn't scored/assisted for 5 games now - are they both 'out of form' too? Why does Downing deserve to start more than Sturridge?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Emotional? Why, because my view differs from other fans? Give me a break.

    ReplyDelete
  36. No, because you don't realise Fergie dropped Rooney against REAL MADRID! honestly, what more evidence would you want. A manager should be given benefit of the doubt no matter the decision he makes. We can only judge if things dont work out. AVB almost forced out Dawson at the start of the season, look at him now.

    ReplyDelete
  37. My response does not seem to be going through.

Just a quick example of where you are misguided, Rooney was dropped against Spurs and Podolski was dropped against Spurs recently.

    ReplyDelete
  38. jaimie sturridges link up play and work rate have not been what you would expect from a top quality forward ,also who,s to say sturridge is 100%allen and agger have started games and not been fit so it would be no surprise to me if sturridge is not fully fit and still made the bench

    ReplyDelete
  39. the reality is a front 3 of sturridge coutino and suarez lacks workrate and structure defensivley ......

    ReplyDelete
  40. i do. and so does Jason. you know suarez contributes far more than goals, and is more likely to create something from nothing. downing improves the shape of the team and gives us width to attack their right back.

surely any team should want a good squad? and that means good players having to miss out on starting matches. buying sturridge gave us something we didnt have (a center forward). it allows BR to have options and pick the team he wants. having good players miss out is a good thing.

    ReplyDelete
  41. agreed there tommy ...they are bad glory hunters at the expense of the pass...thats why downing has been picked

    ReplyDelete
  42. you must be right cannot argue with that;-)

    ReplyDelete
  43. Last time I checked, Real Madrid are not in the Premier League, and I specifically state in my post that Ferguson doesn't drop his main strikers against teams in the TOP FOUR. Rooney has started every game against Chelsea, Man City and Arsenal this season.

    ReplyDelete
  44. the same reason he splashed out 15m on allen

    ReplyDelete
  45. how about a leg

    ReplyDelete
  46. If that's true, why buy Sturridge? Surely he was bought with the intention of being a first-teamer, but what's the point if a front three of Suarez, Sturridge and Coutinho doesn't work?

    ReplyDelete
  47. but you said top 4 because they are the biggest, hardest games... So now are you saying that CL quater finals are small games? or real madrid are an easy team?

    ReplyDelete
  48. in rogers la la land of tactics where no one pressures you it works ..in the real world where the other team does it leaves you open...i know if i put my hand in a fire i will burn myself rogers has to burn him self first to realise anything ....he is a mishmap of trial and error ..if it works he meant it if it doesn't its a bad day at the office the same goes for his signings ...

    ReplyDelete
  49. because he wants to build a squad. I dont think he expected those three to be set in stone for the whole of his three year contract...
We need different options for different games. The fact he has the ability

    ReplyDelete
  50. whats even more hilarious is he was meant to be left with kennys dead wood yet they are all playing at the expense of his signings ...and i dare say Carroll would be playing if he hadn't loaned him out Lol

    ReplyDelete
  51. looks like my post got deleted several times, so here we go one last time...

Why you are misguided is because a quick look at some of united and Arsenal games will show where their main players have been dropped:

    Rooney against spurs
    Podolski against spurs

So in fact i am not the misguided one

    ReplyDelete
  52. Irony is that we need Sturridge to come on & give us an attacking edge so we start looking like the HOME team. Hendo is reminding me why I couldn't stand him last season!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Sturridge scores. I rest my case - should've started.

    ReplyDelete
  54. WHAT A GOAL !!! SAS ! <3

    ReplyDelete
  55. Get in there Daniel "Scapegoat" Sturridge. What does he gave to do to be fully accepted?

    ReplyDelete
  56. and how hes given away a f**en penalty. well done luis, well done.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Another deliberate handball from Suarez. Ridiculous. The ref yellow-carded him for it too. The guy just can't stop himself - it's ingrained.

    ReplyDelete
  58. AND NOW HES BITTEN IVANOVIC. GOOD F***ING GRIEF. GOD HE'S DUMB. DOESN'T ANYONE AT THE CLUB ACTUALLY TALK TO HIM ABOUT THIS STUFF?

    ReplyDelete
  59. Saurez bit Ivanovich lol

    ReplyDelete
  60. HE BIT SOMEONE AGAIN. WOW

    ReplyDelete
  61. Can l ask why in your opening paragraph you say putting Sturridge on the bench is understandable, then in all your comments afterwards appear to complain about it?

    ReplyDelete
  62. Implosion springs to mind and unfortunately it looks like Suarez has probably done himself out of the POTY and maybe get a ban. Looks very much like a bite :(

    ReplyDelete
  63. did you see the bite jamie? its a joke... we really have to stop to defend him all the time..

    ReplyDelete
  64. Understandable from BR's perspective, not mind, i.e. *he* would see it as justifiable.

    ReplyDelete
  65. And people wonder why I'm always on his case. He bit Ivanovich! He's already been banned for it in the past and he does it again, with dozens of cameras watching. Brainwashed fans will still defend him though.

    ReplyDelete
  66. So what position does Podolski play?

    ReplyDelete
  67. Shelvey is awful. I've said this for a while he's all heart no technique!

    ReplyDelete
  68. look at his profile.... hes called a forward.

    ReplyDelete
  69. This guy is just damaging himself, trips over one affair/scandal to the next ... hes one of the best footballers in the world, but these actions are costing him stuff like the POTY award... why should anybody want to buy a player that is only living in scandals... ?

    ReplyDelete
  70. Suarez should never play for us again. he was disgusting

    ReplyDelete
  71. well our attack has lacked bite lately...maybe he misunderstood

    ReplyDelete
  72. and your telling me this is progress lol

    ReplyDelete
  73. But it doesn't read that way. You state "and although its an understandable decision by BR" which is part of your comment.

    ReplyDelete
  74. why the hell do we always lose or play badly in emotion charged games?

    ReplyDelete
  75. lol get in luis ...come on jk ..cat got your tongue lol

    ReplyDelete
  76. As much as I love Suarez no one and I mean no one can defend him for what he done today

    ReplyDelete
  77. Oh my word..... Zero to hero, I can see some furious keyboard sessions about to develop on here :) Can't wait to see what everyone makes of that

    ReplyDelete
  78. Dont fear ... he´d absolutely deserve it ..

    ReplyDelete
  79. so what he scored that is not the point. he shames our club with his behaviour

    ReplyDelete
  80. I was thinking more about the club. It's not good for the image of the club, and we will probably be in the market for a new striker this summer...

    ReplyDelete
  81. it's lose, not loose! and to be honest, i really did not see that coming.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I must say my patience is wearing thin with Rodgers,I wouldn't want to see him sacked but Im not going to give him the benefit of the doubt next season as I did this one

    ReplyDelete
  83. obviously didn't get yours .... l call that progress, we'd have rolled over last year.

    ReplyDelete
  84. i dont think any other player has achieved such a scale of mixed emotions in one match like mr.suarez has done today. unbelievable.

    ReplyDelete
  85. how did it finish 11v11no number of players could have seen red

    ReplyDelete
  86. Suarez has the last bite at the cherry......come on 2-2, never gives up for the cause outstanding talent we are blessed with. However the bite incident does not look good for him.

    ReplyDelete
  87. liverpool4life5656:02 pm, April 21, 2013

2-2 decent result, but Suarez is going to miss the rest of the season. Rodgers needs to have a word and tell him to control his emotions.

    ReplyDelete
  88. he as baggage i just except that,if you took his nasty streak out of him you would lose half the player

    ReplyDelete
  89. for us .. hes representing us: Liverpool FC

    ReplyDelete
  90. What are you on about? The fact that Suarez scores doesn't change the fact that he BIT SOMEONE. It wouldn't matter if he scored a hat-trick - the guy is out of control, and he repeatedly brings shame on the club. No one denies that he is a superb footballer - he is - but he's also a cheat (deliberate handball again today) and is prone to negative incidents. I mean, what kind of simpleton bites someone in front of 26 cameras, and does it AGAIN despite being previously banned for the same thing?!

    ReplyDelete
  91. Totally agree ...... but l still cheered. He needs to be sat down and told behave or go.

    ReplyDelete
  92. The jokes just write themselves (!)

    ReplyDelete
  93. Well i guess the best we can hope for is the fa making a comparison more toward defoes bite rather the his own previous one lol?
Does not look good and i doubt he'll be playing again this season.

    ReplyDelete
  94. ever make a spelling mistake on a key board .... grow up!

    ReplyDelete
  95. i have it on good authority that ivanovic is actually made of white chocolate. So its actually a compliment that he took a taste lol

    ReplyDelete
  96. I think Defoe was booked for it which may explain lack of retrospective action!

    ReplyDelete
  97. Think you could be right, that might just be the nail in the coffin where we start to consider a £40m offer. On the flip-side, maybe other clubs will think twice about him due to the trouble he'd be perceived to bring with him

    ReplyDelete
  98. re the bite inccedent its happen before in the prem cannot remember who it was he got a yellow card,no doubt suarez will bet hung draw and quarterd not that i,am defending is actions but let the fa witch hunt begin

    ReplyDelete
  99. just said could not remember who else had done it did he get a yellow card because someone did

    ReplyDelete
  100. Get a freakin' grip. Witch-hunt?! Suarez BIT SOMEONE. He brings it on himself. Who cares if it's happened before. Typically trying to muddy the waters. Who else did it, Jason? Don't just make general statements - give an example.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Typically I look forward to watching Liverpool play Chelsea, but the Suarez incident(s) ruined the whole game, he is a disgrace to Liverpool football club and his fellow footballers. He is suppose to be a professional. I'm pretty much speechless at witnessing the whole event.

    ReplyDelete
  102. we might get lucky and they just kind of tack on an extra yellow to his count. and when that happens im going to go get myself a lottery ticket

    ReplyDelete
  103. you cant call that a witch hunt mate. burning him at the stake wouldnt be out of order.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Well that game i think has just decided Suarez future at Liverpool. The media will get hold of this and it will go out of control and he wil no doubt deservedly get a lengthy ban. I think his time in England is finished. On one side I am gutted that he is such an idiot as next year, if he does go we will miss his goals and world class play, something we will not replace due to our current position.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Probably just took a big chunk out of his transfer value there ........... to be honest when the dust has settled l say SELL !

    ReplyDelete
  106. could not think off the top of my head but someone as said defoe,he got a yellow card no doubt suare will recieve a6to8 game ban i,am not defending him i just want equal punishment eg terry naff all suarez ban

    ReplyDelete
  107. agree m8 but defoe got a yellow but suarez will get miles more

    ReplyDelete
  108. how can you say that? this isnt boxing. it isnt even rugby. there is no benefit to the "nasty streak". a little aggression may mean he chases more balls and gets stuck in harder so hes more likely to win the ball, but dirk kuyt did all that and was a top guy

    ReplyDelete
  109. yeah this may well devalue him

    ReplyDelete
  110. like it theres nearly more people on here interested in spelling than lfc

    ReplyDelete
  111. That argument is the cornerstone of the enabler's approach. Instead of just focusing on each individual incident, you bring in other incidents in a bid to dilute the seriousness of the issue.

Equal punishment doesn't happen anywhere in any sphere of life. In an ideal world, yes; in reality, no. What happens with other players has absolutely nothing to do with what happens with LFC.

    ReplyDelete
  112. thats true. i dont condone what he did, it was very stupid but consistent punishment would be nice. not going to happen but it would be nice

    ReplyDelete
  113. BR does not need to start to do a Kenny here, he is going on about Torres elbow, no where near any comparison to biting someone!!!

    ReplyDelete
  114. an idiot lol.....the guy is seriously flawed.......it will be interesting to see what rogers take on it is....

    ReplyDelete
  115. its not defending him its called fairness if defoe got a ten match ban i would expect the same for suarez, but he got a yellow card so imo suarez should be handed a red card ban of the fa ,but it will not happen they will go to town because its suarez

    ReplyDelete
  116. Weirdly that could be a massive stroke of luck for us through the summer. I know it sounds a bit tenuous, but maybe if other clubs now think twice about him and there are no serious offers over the summer, then he stays... (stay with me on this). Obviously Suarez now needs a proper talking to and if that works and he can rein in the stupidity in his game (handballs, biting etc) then we keep our best player, tenuous I know!

I think Suarez needs to come out very quickly and hold his hands up ;) and admit the bite, apologise publicly to Ivanovic and the Chelsea fans AND Liverpool fans. Maybe it will lessen the bite he's about to feel from the press and the FA

    ReplyDelete
  117. how does he deserve a lenghty ban if defoe got a yellow card come on it should be the same rules for everyone,no matter what as happened in the past

    ReplyDelete
  118. and a big chunk out of his arm

    ReplyDelete
  119. OH MY GOD! did everyone see that??!! IVANOVIC FORCED HIS ARM IS SUAREZ'S MOUTH!!

    ReplyDelete
  120. Its like Suares looses his sanity for a split second and then he cant control his actions. I dont think he does the thing he does wit malice in mind and probably he regrets it the second after.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Maybe he's just a rare new bread of vampire :)

    ReplyDelete
  122. hes more concerned about torres assault on carra lol talk about no balls

    ReplyDelete
  123. didnt hannibal lector play right back for west ham in the 70s

    ReplyDelete
  124. I thought the attack lacked "bite" but Suarez proved otherwise ???????

    ReplyDelete
  125. that goes for 90 percent of the penal population lol

    ReplyDelete
  126. Liverpool should come out tomorrow morning and say he wont play for the rest of the season. this could easily go to court as assault. the guy is an animal. the worst thing is him smiling afterwards as if he's really proud of himself.

    ReplyDelete
  127. hey gag stealer ive already posted that.....lol

    ReplyDelete
  128. Only in their eyes I would think. I don't think we'd sell him for something like £20m just for the sake of it. Maybe that's the only silver lining to this incident

    ReplyDelete
  129. what's with Rodgers and Downing and then taking off Coutinho to bring in Sturridge tactical naivety or defensive minded that too at home.

    ReplyDelete
  130. i did't read the comments to realise that lol.....
    sorry mate

    ReplyDelete
  131. He should NOT be defended. Not about this at all. First he sticks his hand up...when he has no reason to.... then he let's it get to his head and does that?

he is embarrassing this club by doing this and his country....Of which I am part of and I am ashamed to even say that.

He should be banned for the rest of the year......AND I hope the AUF bans him to. I do NOT care if Uruguay do not make the WC...and that is hard for me to say, it hurts so bad.

    ReplyDelete
  132. The same thing came in my mind - but i have no clue if its good or bad. Ive never had mixed feelings about football about today..

    ReplyDelete
  133. i agree he shouldn't play for Uruguay again ......

    ReplyDelete
  134. Agree, but its bound to be damned hard having to walk into a press conference after that,he's human, we all clutch at straws... but l feel he'll deal with Suarez this time.

    ReplyDelete
  135. He could of killed him for goodness sake.... Does Ivanovic not know that approximately 1 million hookers and adult film stars are killed every year from a bad case of someone going elbow-deep!!!

  136. Eric Cantona did alot worse with his shocking kung fu kick on a supporter. Got banned, came back a better player and helped man utd win numerous titles . A ban and some counselling would be the right thing to do as he's worth fighting for now. Did it damage man utd's image around the world?? Are they not one of the riches and successful club in world football.

    I rest my case...

    ReplyDelete
  137. I don't really know if it's good or bad either really, I'm just being hopeful and trying hard to believe in the saying that "everyone deserves a fourteenth chance" :)

    ReplyDelete
  138. I will NOT do that at all. The handball was bad enough....but this is not. We at Uruguay blogs....think he has needed someone to speak with him and deserves to sit for a few games with them...even if Uruguay do not make the WC...which with their old defense and average MF...is a given anyways.

This however....he has embarrassed everyone by doing this from club, fans and country.

    ReplyDelete
  139. that kung fu kick led to utd being loved in the east by china and japan...its just a pitty them canibal tribes in the amazon dont have sky

    ReplyDelete
  140. OK enough with all this Suarez bashing! Ill set the story straight RIGHT NOW!!!
Im 99.9% sure that SAF and Howard Webb are sitting in a pub downing astronomical amounts of whisky while they use a doll resembling our very own LUIS SUAREZ! it was some of his jersey and hair on it! YEP THATS RIGHT PEOPLE!! VOODOO! poor suarez doesnt want to do these thing but they are making him!

    ReplyDelete
  141. All those trees get in the way of the signal to their dishes. Still, they seem to be doing a good job of cutting them down

    ReplyDelete
  142. Dude how long did it take you to write this?? I mean you made an article against him from another game which had nothing to do with him...But I guess we will have to give you this one cause you been waiting for the opportunity..Question: Did you even finish the game before you wrote this article?? If the man is found guilty he deserves it!

    ReplyDelete
  143. come on Torres could have killed him!

    ReplyDelete
  144. So where you excited when Ralfa name was been sung like you predicted??? If he really cared about LFC why did he run into the tunnel right after shaking BR hand??? At least he could have stayed and waived to (you) the fans a bit, I mean it was a draw?!!

    ReplyDelete
  145. ... why...

I gotta be honest I've sort of drifted off LFC till next year and concentrated on other things for now. So yes - I missed the game.

but What on earth has he done? Why did he do that? I'm sorry but no Liverpool supporter in the world can defend that. I sympathize with Rodgers because obviously he has to take a defensive stand with him and the club. But ffs - I wonder what he'll say; he didnt defend him before but this time ... Poor man.

    Sell Suarez. Now please.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Garra Charrua! I've heard it said on a Uruguayan nation-side football blog that he is the epitomy of that Uruguayan spirit and that could be part of the reason behind his passion spilling over into silly decisions from time to time. It would be good to hear your thoughts on that (please excuse the spelling if it's wrong)

    ReplyDelete
  147. Well...I did not say ever again....but the rest of the WCQ...yes.

He needs mental help...... It's almost like One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest with him......do you lobotomize him and take away his ability as a player by castrating his crazy? You have to in order for this not to keep happening.

    ReplyDelete
  148. to be fair I thought fairplay to Cantona when he did that. Some of the abuse they have to take is so far over the line I long to see players doing what Cantona did and shutting up the horrible fans that spout stuff they wouldnt like spouted at them. For that kick alone Cantona will always be a legend in my mind.

    ReplyDelete
  149. you see thats just smart marketing. who'd have thought Cantona was that smart?

    ReplyDelete
  150. or as it turns out correct

    ReplyDelete
  151. lol sorry jk i entered by mistake i was trying to put a bit gag in there

    ReplyDelete
  152. Why are you fully against Rogers now? What is it with you and wanting managers out of our club?

    ReplyDelete
  153. Why was there a need for LS to bite an opponent, in the game?! What was he thinking about that time? No doubt he's a good player but his actions at times leaves a lot to be desired. The irony is that he's always putting the ball into the net. That makes LFC hard to remove him from the team.

    ReplyDelete
  154. actually it does, this is why courts of law refer to cases by the name of the first case which won that case. If one case results in a win then after ALL cases are open to it as that first case is the reference point. The punishment mind could be changed.

Not defending anyone as I`m not happy with Suarez just correcting your statement which in its own right was a classic enablers approach.

    ReplyDelete
  155. why are you against rogers? Why only show the bite....maybe show what he did right during the game. If your so objective?

    ReplyDelete
  156. He clearly slipped :P

    ReplyDelete
  157. i dont know jc isnt that bad

    ReplyDelete
  158. i love those jokes lol

    ReplyDelete
  159. lol ...no offence jack the bite kinda overshadows things

    ReplyDelete
  160. you can so 99% right - but if the last 1% is as shocking as the bite was, you deserve to be judged on that 1%. Stop defending LS for actions like these ..

    ReplyDelete
  161. who are you taliking to lol

    ReplyDelete
  162. knowing rogers hell say there was a snake on the pitch and suarez was sucking the venom out and should get a medal lol

    ReplyDelete
  163. Yes...there is an article on lacelesteblog.com about this a few weeks or a month ago.
The reputation of Uruguay, and Argentine futbol in the late 60's into the 70's however....became one of overly brutal defense and tackling. Uruguay just became a team that win or lost ugly by the time the 8-'s were around. That Garra Charrua....is all well and good. It helped a limited MF in the 2010 WC...which lacked anyone of the class of Enzo Francescoli and Alvaro Recoba.

However....talent still counts and playing in control does as well.
The NT Coach has let Suarez be Suarez......but someone has finally has to reign him in before he destroys everything he worked for and continues to make Liverpool look bad. However....I do not think he will wear this shirt any longer. Which is sad...as this has been my club as well since 1977. Uruguay even has 1 club with a name from another club...the only one in their whole League.
    Liverpool.

This is sad for me...not just for this club but as an Uruguayan.
Garra Charrua means to always fight...never give up or in to anyone. Brazil? Forget you...we are not scared of you.
Argentina? Arrogant and full of themselves. We are not scared of you either. It basically means to always work hard and keep pushing to win......but DO NOT make a fool or yourself. We are not what the Scotland manager called them in 1986 WC.... Ferguson was the Assistant Coach for the Scotland NT at that time as well. Look up the quote...I cannot remember it.
Something along the lines of.... Uruguayan Dirty Players.

Either way...this is not Uruguay futbol anymore....but Suarez i not just representing the country...he is mainly representing this great club and he has ruined any chance of ever coming back here.

    ReplyDelete
  164. No entiendo como pueden escribir tanta basura. Siempre haciendo lo mismo, atacan a Suarez, tanta envidia hay? Pobres mediocres, eso es lo que son.

    ReplyDelete
  165. Odias a Suarez? Jajaja no se nota, es tan ridícula la ofensiva que tienen en su contra. Son tan obvios.

    ReplyDelete
  166. I really don't understand Suarez, he clearly has some sort of mental imbalance. He really is a unique case, a Dr Jeckyll/Mr Hyde kinda person.
The real frustrating thing is that he seems like quite a nice person off the pitch and has strong principles but on the pitch he's a scumbag, albeit a very talented scumbag. I don't think he himself knows why he does these things.

It would have been nice to see out this season without any more controversy!

    ReplyDelete
  167. Do not embarrass yourself ...I speak Spanish..it is my first language. Luis deserves all he is getting for this garbage.

    ReplyDelete
  168. Cuidate que no te muerda a ti!! Tu merecerías una buena mordida y en los dedos así dejás de escribir tonterías.

    ReplyDelete
  169. If rogers ever said that i would be so mad! you should never try and suck the poison out of a snake bite as its more likely going to infect both the bitten and the sucker and not really help anyone!

    ReplyDelete
  170. Jaimie, I don't agree with your opinion on everything, but certainly do not disagree with it all the time. When it comes to suarez I think you've been harsh with some of the stomping incidents in particular. BUT this now is disgusting as a repeat offender who keeps repeating I no longer buy the suarez gets picked on and is targeted by the media because he's foreign. He should be told that he will never put on the red shirt again, and we should start discussions with barca, bayern whoever for his sale to the highest bidder and have him gone day one of the transfer window. This is worse than diouf spitting, he looked like he was sinking his teeth into a turkey leg for christmas dinner.

Sullied our proud name, we are a first class club, and I am embarassed and ashamed a player has done that in our shirt. suarez brings our name down. end of. sell him.

    ReplyDelete
  171. he did wave to the fans at the start he probebly did not want to deflate rodgers ego

    ReplyDelete
  172. Thanks for your reply, it's good to hear another viewpoint to the one on laceleste. Incidentally I agree with you that LS is definitely now on a knife edge in how his conduct reflects on our club and your national side. I can only hope he comes out quickly and humbly to make a public apology.

I like the idea of Garra Charrua, it seems to compliment YNWA just in regards to LFC. Is it a national identity specific to Uruguay or to the whole South American continent?

    ReplyDelete
  173. and suarez would have eat the evidence lol;-o

    ReplyDelete
  174. fair play to all why should suarez be a scapegoat

    ReplyDelete
  175. Can't defend that I'm afraid. I have never agreed with any of Mr K's Suarez stuff but I think this might provide his 'told you so' moment. Brilliant player , the only one worth paying all that money to see. We have usually got rid of players quickly following controversy, the only problem here is that without him we are shite

    ReplyDelete
  176. About Sturridge not starting ,i'm gonna ask Jamie who will play defensively Lucas , Glen, Henderson... very poor , the only man who played defensively and attack today was Stevie , we must bring to the team someone like Diame or Song and then Brendan can play Sturridge from the start, think about that.
About what Suarez did today absolutely miserable .

    ReplyDelete
  177. I doubt Roy Keane would have been half the player he was without his "nasty streak" so I'd agree with Jason on that

    ReplyDelete
  178. That was a DISGRACE.....Luis Suarez....you can't just do that am afraid. DISGUSTING

    ReplyDelete
  179. my lads just been suspende from his academy for an inciddent you would think he had killed him how did they control keane barton and vinnie jones as kids the worlds gone mad

    ReplyDelete
  180. lol shite would not be the word we would have been relagated

    ReplyDelete
  181. i agree wasting food is a serious problem;-)

    ReplyDelete
  182. That probably was Suarez's last goal in England. IMO

    ReplyDelete
  183. hes lovely when you go round for dinner i,am sure he would serve you with a nice bottle of red;-)

    ReplyDelete
  184. this is a fair point, and i agree. maybe i was over the top. but suarez isnt there to tackle, so its a little different. also keane was a thug who purposefully ended a players career. the less said about him the better

    ReplyDelete
  185. why has my comment been deleted? pointing out that you are incorrect when mentioning that Wenger and Fergie would not rest stars is incorrect, now constitutes as breaking house rules? I get it is your site and i like the debate, but simply deleting any comments that disagree with you (or in fact prove you wrong) is simply chidish.

Ferguson has rested Rooney in big games against top 4 this season (Spurs). Arsene also rested Podolski against Spurs. Mancini has rested his stars many times. Chelsea also have rested Ba/Torres, Mata or Hazard. this is part of the game and what strengthens the squad. I would have liked to have seen Sturridge start, but coming off the bench and getting a goal and an assist is a great return and you don't know if he had started whether he could have done that. This is exactly what my original comment pointed out (may that's why it was deleted).

I agree that whilst I love Saurez as a footballer and believe him to be world class, his actions are truly disgraceful. I don't want to see him go because we are far worse without him but he's making it hard for him to stay here with actions like that.

    ReplyDelete
  186. i saw defoes one on youtube its not as bad as luis'. the ref was a yard away and gave a yellow its ridiculous. i agree that

    ReplyDelete
  187. Thank you very much. I thought I was the only person who remembered that Cantona incident. People need to stop exaggerating. Yes what Luis did was stupid but that's about the size of it. He'll take his ban and we'll move on from this. Calling for him to be sold is overdoing it

    ReplyDelete
  188. Sorry to say, Suarez really has to go, supported this teams nearly 40 years, never been so embarrassed. No excuse at all, defending him is ridiculous.

    ReplyDelete
  189. just heard munchin gladback are to put in a bid!!

    ReplyDelete
  190. what really sucks ( and i dont mean the incident) is if he goes we will more than likely get less money...
