Game Over: Liverpool to sell 'brilliant' striker in cut-price deal. Mistake...?

Celtic are reportedly monitoring on-loan Liverpool striker Michael Ngoo with a view to signing him on a permanent deal in the summer.

Ngoo joined Hearts on loan in January, and according to the Daily Mail:

* Celtic are 'showing an interest in the 6'5 inch attacker, who is deemed to be 'surprlus to requirements' at Anfield, and:

* Liverpool are 'ready to listen to offers' of around £2m.

Ngoo has three goals and one assist in nine games since arriving at Hearts, and on a personal level, that's a good return for him.

However, overall, the Tynecastle club's results have nosedived during the young striker's time at the club:

* 6 defeats in 9 games.
* Only 2 wins in 9 games overall.
* A recent run of 5 defeats in a row.
* Ngoo is on a run of 5 games without a goal.

I'm not for one minute suggesting Ngoo is at fault, but it just goes to show that it isn't as easy to consistently score in the SPL as many people seem to think. Hearts manager John McGlynn is happy with 20-year old though, and he recently heaped praise on the young striker. He told The Scotsman:

“Over the years I’ve seen many players come and go, you have your Ricardo Fullers and big Michael is a similar player in many ways. Ricardo Fuller leaves then Mark De Vries comes in. You always think you’re going to miss him and then someone else comes along.”

After joining Liverpool in September 2009, Ngoo scored 15 goals in 21 games for Liverpool’s under-18s in season 2010/11, which earned him promotion to the club’s reserve squad.

Liverpool coach Brendan Rodgers seems to rate Ngoo, and after watching him in a reserve game in November 2012, he enthused:

"I love his [Ngoo's] attitude. He’s a funny player, Michael. He’s unorthodox, but effective, and he’s a real nuisance around the six yard box. He hasn’t been up to train with us as much as he would’ve liked, but he's brilliant in that he gives 100% every single game. He’s going to have a good career in the game".

Earlier this season, Liverpool legend John Aldridge called for Ngoo to be given a chance in the first team. He told the Liverpool Echo:

"Michael Ngoo might get a senior call-up. Ngoo is a powerful lad with a presence about him. He has had a really good season for the under-21s and, despite his size, is better on the floor. I believe he could do a decent job"

The arrival of Daniel Sturridge seems to have put a major block on Ngoo's potential involvement in the first team, and a permanent move at this stage would probably make sense for his development.

  1. Rodgers thinks he's good enough to have a career in the game but that doesn't mean he thinks it's at Liverpool. If he can get a move to Celtic than fair fs to him.

  2. Sell. £2 million wouldnt be a bad fee at all.

  3. I think FSG would sell him since the debt has been rose and besides that will the renovating the stadium would be put on hold too?

  4. Would he really ever overtake the 1st team strikers we have currently?

I don't think so. He is a nice tidy player though.

  5. I agree.

Do you know who I feel sorry for though? Pacheco man!!!!!!!!!

  6. Yea I did always like him, but he never really seemed to spark when he got his chance.

  7. The boy's built like a tank, his shoulders are almost as wide as he is tall! I like him though because he reminds me of Kanu because he's very skillful for his size. Not blistering pace but quick nonetheless. Shame we've not given him a chance to shine in cup games! Personally, I think we could be kicking ourselves in the future!

  8. Its reeks of Tom Ince again doesn't it?

  9. Really? I always felt he looked really eager and always got a few shots or good passes off whenever he got a chance.

  10. We're yet to be proved wrong about Ince. So far he's still at Blackpool. If he moves to Man U in the summer and delivers them the title, then we can start kicking ourselves.

  11. Well his goals and assists this season speaks for itself...The fact its in the championship is not really that big of a problem,it is to an extent but if he could return half the amount of goals and assists in the PL he'd be just fine

  12. Yeah I agree. I think he's decent enough, but because of his size he often looks a bit clumsy and slow, and he's not the type of player Rodgers wants up top i.e. good acceleration, tricky and skillful and inventive. That's not Ngoo, not Carroll, not Crouch. Therefore we either change manager or we sell Ngoo.

So it's pretty obvious the only choice is to sell Ngoo. 2m is a decent fee, hopefully that idiot Ayre includes some future sale % just in case he does make it big.

  13. Ince seems to want to play fairly consistent first 11 football i cannot see him getting much of a look in at United.
I really believe he will join Liverpool or maybe a lesser EPL side.

  14. TBH mate he has an eye for goal & offers this unorthodox style that no else can provide! I'm glad he's getting games but lets see what he can do for us first!

  15. Kinda agree on this one, Pacheco seemed to have skill in the bucket load, I remember when he was top scorer and looked  the best player for the Spanish under 21`s in the under 21 euros. For whatever reason he just doesn`t seem liked by our managers, yet he really did look like he was going to turn into a awesome player. I still think his style fits BR`s style perfectly too.

  16. I thought the same, whenever he came on, he looked like he was our most lively player on the pitch.

  17. I would love Ince to come back, although don`t buy into the argument us losing him to Blackpool was bad, as for me I kinda think if he had stayed with us, he wouldn`t have turned into the player he is becoming. Sometimes letting young players go on loan is the better option, but wages do come into it, in Ince`s case clearly he wouldn`t have been happy with what we could offer, or he would have signed a new deal and asked for a loan in the talks about the new deal. Maybe Ngoo will be the same. I can`t imagine he is on a lot, so don`t really see much great extra wages saved from selling him, and the 2mil from the sale isn`t a big amount, so would rather loan him out again, chances are we can still get close to 2mil in a few years time if he aint made it.

  18. Nah us selling him was bad but he left of his own accord which I think he was right to,it says a lot about a player when they will drop down a level from a club like Liverpool to get first team action and not just be on loan with them.Id like us to get Ince back but one thing Ive sorta lost and gained respect for blackpool at the same time because they're not willing to lay over when a 'big club' comes knocking at the door but at the same time we've been good to them loaning players to help them out and then they hardball us

  19. Well we'll have to sign him first wont we? :P

    ReplyDelete
  20. Do you think he would have become the player he is then if he stayed with us?

What`s your views on leaving and loaning? I ask because above you state that it says a lot about a player leaving, rather than just going on loan. Surely though both have the same result? So it must have been down to money? which doesn`t say as much about a player, unless you think that there is a difference playing for Blackpool on loan from us, to playing them as a signed player, which may be a good point, as possibly all loan players, know that they still are owned by a big club, so don`t put in as much effort on loan as they should.

I don`t have any gripes with Blackpool at all, end of the day he is there player now, and in regards to loans, they were doing us as much of a favour as we was them, both parties gained in equal measure. We got young players to them for game time, they helped pay there wages, and give them the game time needed so we could take them back when first team ready, or to sell at a bigger profit, so for me it was a equal deal.

  21. You made my point!! There is a massive difference between leaving a club for first team football then going out on loan ( for a young player anyways) IMO because they know in the back of their heads they're still part of the bigger club and their true motives are to impress so that their parent club will take notice,Okay hypothetical example,We kept Ince and loaned him to blackpool, now what would the main driving force to motivate Ince to do well? It most likely would be to get into the Liverpools first 11 because at the end of the day if blackpool got relegated would Ince honestly care? Not really...Because hes blackpools player his motivation to play is to gain blackpool promotion and if they got relegated he'd sure as hell care then

  22. Ngoo,Wisdom,Sterling and most of the rest will be sold as soon as a decent bid comes in, thats the FSG way , give them some time in the first team to get them on the radar of other clubs then sell asap. save up and buy something decent. simple really.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Based on what evidence?

    ReplyDelete
  24. If they're sold or for that matter any of the youngsters at LFC are sold,it wont be because that's the FSG way,it will be because they haven't made the grade,or don't fit into the plans.............. SIMPLE REALLY !

  25. How do you gather he is surplus to requirements?
Where does the line " Liverpool are ready to listen to offer" come from?

Were David Beckham,Danny Welbeck,John Terry,Rio Ferdinand, surplus to requirements at their clubs when they went on loan at a similar age?

    ReplyDelete
  26. that is a very valid arguement, and gives a different take to loaning out players

    ReplyDelete
  27. well its food for thought anyways
