'I must play' - LFC eye unhappy €14m star who 'adores' the Prem. Priority...?

In February, Paris St. Germain star Mamdou Sakho publicly warned the Ligue One club that he 'cannot accept' constantly sitting in the bench, and insisted that he would have 'no choice but to leave' if things didn't change. Well, Sakho clearly doesn't believe his situation has improved over the last month, and the powerful defender has once again gone public with his frustration, which - according to reports today - has led Liverpool to reignite their interest in the player.

Speaking to L'Equipe on Thursday, 6'2 Sakho admitted that he'd 'finally come to accept' that his time at PSG is over, and bemoaned his slip down the pecking order. He said:

"In the mind of the PSG coach, I'm the third choice, and I do not understand it. I have to play at club level to qualify for the France team. Next season will be important. It's been a difficult year and a half for me at PSG. To continue my progress, I must be playing."

Reports in Italy and France today claim that Sakho's comments have alerted Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers, who is keen to bring the defender - whose contract expires in 2014 - to Anfield.

With Jamie Carragher retiring at the end of the season, and the Martin Skrtel/Daniel Agger partnership failing to convince, Liverpool clearly need defensive reinforcements in the summer, and Sakho definitely fits the bill. When asked recently about the possibility of a move to Arsenal or Liverpool, the 23-year old told Sky Sports:

"I adore the English Premier League, and if I have to leave PSG to keep my place in the France national team, then I have no choice but to leave"

The Chronicle claims that Newcastle are also reportedly interested in signing the £12m-rated defender, and with their huge French contingent already at the club, Liverpool could have some stiff competition for his signature in the summer.

This deal is surely a no-brainer? 23-year old Sakho fits FSG's 'buy 'em young' profile, and having watched him play many times (I follow Ligue One), he's a speedy, powerful, top class central defender, and that's exactly what Liverpool need.

Bid for Sakho...?

  1. As is the way at Liverpool, this deal makes far too much sense to ever happen.
I look forward to getting Lescott or someone else who is overpriced.

Doubt this 'll happen. He is not British, he is not over priced mediocre, he is not from BR's old club, & most importantly, he is outstanding prospect - doesn't match with LFC purchase profiles.

He is too good to hang on for the FSG type bargain. I think, Spurs, Gunners, NUFC or MCity 'll buy him putting 1/2 extra million on what LFC 'll be playing cat & mouse for weeks.

  5. Sakho is good but at LFC we need certain styles of players. sakho is just as good as skrtel, no nonsense defending, but when it comes to BR ball-playing philosophy they will probably be both vulnerable. although sakho is much younger than skrtel and will likely develop, taking such a risk right now of where we are at as club is too much now. we cant afford to lose by errors. we are a massive club but we are really on the edge tbh. plus kelly is coming back and is better than sakho.

we need 2 quick, versatile CB who can dribble and pass. a left-back (enrique cover) who can defend well, is fast and get forward well. a defensive midfielder (lucas cover) with power, strength and flair. a left-footed AM who plays the magician mata type role but can also play on the wings, one forward of sheer quality and another young striker with PL experience who we can develop

Carlos Zambrano - CB 23 yrs - been a revelation in the Bundesliga, consistent performances. good defender who is young and can play well with ball at feet. very fast as well. £5M
Stefan De Verij - CB 21 yrs - captain at 21, good leader, good height, has good long passing ability like gerrard. very good defender as well. £8M
Luis Ibanez - LWB 24 yrs - CL experienced, very skillful, lightning pace, set piece specialist and would be good cover for enrique. also a left winger with good crossing. £4M
Mohamed Diame - DM 25 yrs - real ball-playing defensive mid. robust in the tackle then starts the attack himself. he also got a massive work-rate and alot of flair. PL experienced. £3.5M
Keuisuke Honda - AM 26 yrs - world class. left-footed magician who will get us at least 10 goals from set pieces alone, scoring or assisting them. up for free in the summer. CL experienced. FREE

Alexander Pato - ST 23 yrs - world class. top striker who no longer plays for milan, so CL football is not a option. can add at least 15 goals per season and will make striking options exciting. £15M
Andreas Wiemman ST 21 yrs. developing forward who scores alot of goals in the PL for a club like villa. fantastic work rate and link up play and has already scored at anfield. can play on the wings as well. replace borini. £5M

altogether that is £40M. if we sell carrol (£14M) sell borini (£7M) sell skrtel (£12M) sell spearing (£1M) that will give us £34M. plus BR transfer kitty of £20M will mean we've seen profit and can save for january.

    Loans
Jonjo Shelvey - Hes shown attributes which can make him a real star in football. powerful shot, long range shooting, vision and good passing. if we give him a loan at another PL club, like wigan, if hes able to show his ability there, he will benefit and will come back a better player with experience.
Raheem Sterling - Has what it takes to be a wolrd class player, and being so young a loan would be great for him. he would come back age 19 and still a teenager, meaning errors will still be acceptable. but the experience in another team could do him massive and us as a club
Suso - suso has fantastic ball playing skills and great vision. if he can show this at another PL club, he'll get alot of experience and come back to be a first team starter.
Joao Carlos Texeria- should go on loan to the championship. high hopes for him and first team football will bring out his best. not going to happen at LFC, so in the championship he will excell and show rodgers the season after next what he could be missing
Jordon Ibe - this kid is pure wonder. hes got everything. our next gareth bale or cristiano ronaldo. needs a loan urgently and not to league 1, he was already to good there, which is why we signed him. he needs a loan in the championship and im sure he would do even better than the overatted zaha. i actually played against jordon when i was in school aged 14, he scored 6 times and scored 2 suarez style free kicks, one with his left foot and one with his right. real star he is.

  6. The critisism of Rodgers transfer performance must be tempered by an understanding of the chaos he inherited on arrival at Anfield. Judging by the failures to sign either Dempsey or Sigurdson and the disasterous decision to allow Carrol to leave before a replacement was recruited there was no adequate player recruitment infrastructure in place at the start of the season. More recently however Rodgers signings have been excellent value for money with both Couthinho and Sturridge proving real bargains. Lets see if he can repeat the trick with a whole close season ahead. With a £20m net spend available plus somewhere around £30m from the sales of Carroll, Skrtel and other fringe squad players there is a real opportunity next season.

  8. Very early days for Sturridge and Coutinho. Nice starts (though Sturridge has dropped off a tad, and seems to struggle for fitness) but Allen started brilliantly and so many others over the years. Let's see if they can do it consistently.
I hope Rodgers shows a bit more imagination with his signings. Coutinho was probably the least predictable of the signings, and so far, looks like he is the best.

  9. Why is your name Real Kopite, but you have an Arsenal badge as your picture?
Also Pato, while potentially a bargain, needs a few months to prove his body can cope with the game. He'd be too big a risk right now. I doubt he'd want to move so soon after going back to Brazil either and if he did, it probably would have to be to a Champions League team.

  10. As much as i would like to see Sakho in a Liverpool shirt i doubt weather he would go to a club with no European football and also are unlikely to match wages he could get elsewhere.
I disagree with many of you who believe the club wont pursue him i think they will but chasing and getting are 2 different stories.

  14. I did wonder the same thing! Oh and jordy Clasie looks mustard - but where would he fit in? and would it hamper development of our own kids coming through like teixera and adorjan?

  15. Lol! He doesnt count apparantly!

  16. He also forgot King Luis! Selective arguments!

  17. Yep, it would be hard to fit him in, but for all our midfielders, I'm not sure we have a proper no.10.
