With the summer transfer window on the horizon, speculation over incoming players is only set to intensify over the next few months, and one player who could top te rumour-mill is PSG attacker Jeremy Menez.
Reports in Italy, France and England this week claim that Brendan Rodgers is tracking the 25-year old forward, who is unhappy at becoming a bit-part player under Carlo Ancelotti.
Last week, Menez's agent, Jean-Pierre Bernès, warned PSG that Menez could leave the club unless things change over the next few months. He told France Football:
"Jeremy is a competitor, but feels like a failure at PSG. He hates being on the bench all the time, and feels it is an injustice. If he has to leave, there will be many clubs interested in him"
Liverpool have been linked Menez - who cost PSG €8m in 2011 - several times in the past:
* Rafa Benitez tried to sign Menez during the 2010 January transfer window, but the player decided to stay at AS Roma.
* In 2011, Menez hinted that he'd leave Roma after a bust-up with Roma Coach Vincenzo Montella, and according to The Mirror, Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish kept an eye on the winger.
Menez is clearly unhappy, and in February, he made this clear in a recent interview with Telefoot:
"I need to feel trust, and the day I will not feel it again, we will have to find a solution. We will see at the end of the season what they [PSG] want."
Carlo Ancelotti dismissed Menez's complaints though, and hinted that PSG wouldn't stop him from leaving in June. He told reporters:
"The transfer market is over, Menez has to stay here. If he is not happy in June, he could ask to leave, as others players did. He is an important player for our team, but competition is logical in great teams,"
Menez can play on either wing, or as a second striker, and it's this attacking versatility could be useful for Liverpool. Stats this season:
* 5 goals/10 assists in 38 apps.
* Last season: 8 goals/q4 assists in 40 apps.
Worth a look in the summer?

It would depend on how much we'd have to pay.
ReplyDeleteif cheap enough he could be worth a look but unless we decide to part with attackers i think we should concentrate on defense
what are we a club for psg,s rejects,if we sign half the psg players this site as linked us to lately we mite as well change our name to psg
ReplyDeleteNot worth it. Menez is a headache and unlikely to displace any of our current starting squad. Much wiser to play Coutinho and develop Sterling than to have this guy sulking on the bench.
ReplyDeletewill kanwaaar and jason carr just go away
ReplyDeleteOff topic but, we are doomed this season now!
ReplyDeleteThe BBC have just posted an interview with Gerrard, saying we need a 'perfect finish' to the season. Thats it then, 7th it is.
Urgh. The Steven Gerrard kiss of death strikes again (!)
ReplyDeleteI am not sure about this guy at all and reckon we should maybe steer clear of him after an incident I remember from earlier in the season. Not sure who PSG were playing but Menez was acting like a lazy fecker and one of his mates was playing in the opposite team. When the game finished and they were walking off, his mate asked him why he wasn't tracking back in the game and Menez said that he was an attacking player and that wasn't his job to track back. Unfortunately for Menez, they were standing beside a mic and the whole thing was picked up by the media. Seems like a bit of a crap attitude. Not sure that somebody like this would be good for team spirit. I have never been Downings biggest fan but look at the shift he put in against Spurs. Take note Mr Menez.
ReplyDeletewow i wasn't aware of any of that. yep definitely steer clear
ReplyDeleteWe should just try for Ince again. We're not really that desperate for forwards. We've got 4 strikers on our books, at least 4 wingers already and of the lot, only 3 get to play at a time under BR. If we need a quality winger to warm the bench or for training purposes, there's already Assaidi.
ReplyDeleteCertainly an itchy prospect!
ReplyDeleteIDK mate. He usually says 'we can' not 'we need'. Hopefully we escape his curse.
ReplyDeletelol, there is still hope!
ReplyDeleteI don`t think we need him, for me he would only be a back up player, and tbh we have a few young ones who can fill that role well. If we had more cash, then sure, but as we don`t I wouldn`t be to happy spending anything on back up players when we still need to use every penny for the first team
ReplyDeleteLol, if that is his attitude then I dont want to see him at Liverpool.
ReplyDeleteYou have never been Downing's biggest fan and neither have I, but Rodgers clearly is! Menez sounds like another Samir Nasri. I don't think we want such a player!
ReplyDeleteOnce they arrive at the gate you can stand there with a posit note "Take the M6 swap over onto the A1 to Newcastle."
ReplyDeleteAll jokes aside, a reasonable fee for him would add extra punch in attacking terms. We have lacked in depth and have seen we can not be overuse the likes of Sterling.
hmmm fortunetelling its just a rumor ehhhh
ReplyDeleteWell he is stand in player (backup) at PSG, he wants to play games. Why would he move to Liverpool and become a backup player wont make sense.
ReplyDeleteIt isn't a rumour. It happened this season and was picked up by the live microphone at the side of the pitch so how is that a rumour?
ReplyDeleteagree we have had enough of his sort joe cole springs to mind
ReplyDeleteNo thankfully the transfer is a rumor
ReplyDeleteSorry fella, thought you meant the post about Menez :)
ReplyDeleteRodgers told him he was free to leave.. how is he "clearly Downing's bigest fan" ???
ReplyDeleteno jase we are a club for swansea rejects
ReplyDeletewondered what the s in psg stood for;-)
ReplyDeleteHe has always had the talent Menez, but unless the price is right, I'd steer clear. He seems to lack the mentality to become a top player.
ReplyDeleteFor the right money though, he could be an attractive option.
And Chelsea rejects, in Sturridge, Inter rejects, in Coutinho, Ajax rejects, in Suarez etc, etc. Give it a rest!
ReplyDeleteIbrahimovic & Lavezzi are the first choice strikers at PSG, they'd keep most strikers out of any side, especially with the amount of cash spent on the pair of them.
Seriously, what is with the links to Liverpool for the attackers!!! We have plenty of att options with Suarez, sturridge, downing, sterling, coutunho and Gerard to name a few. But look at our possible defence after the summer... With carragher retiring at the end of the season and skyrtl + Coates trying to weave his way out of the Liverpool fc defence we need a partner for agger, even though agger is still in touch to replace mascherano, piqué and puyol at Barcelona, who are we stick with??? Sama... Stephen sama who has never played once in a Liverpool shirt and a whole bunch of wing backs who have no defensive talent... Maybe we should offload a few of them and bolster the full back position... Then search for another attacker for the rejected overflow pile at our club
ReplyDeleteThe amount of faith Rodgers has shown him over the past 6-7 games says it all.
ReplyDeleteNot the profile we're looking for. We're looking for two or three top buys in the summer and a young, promising center half. Not a benchwarmer at a club we should be looking to beat.
ReplyDeleteNot sure this rumour holds much weight but i would believe the scouts have had a good look at Gameiro and Sakho from PSG.
ReplyDeleteSakho will be a great addition with Williams..we have Downing, at a great form now and would like to add Ben arfa to compete him. Lets keep Menez as second priority if we unable to sign Ben arfa.
ReplyDeletebut.. hes been playing well? dunno if you saw the game on sunday but we would have lost if he hadnt scored. He is full of confidence and in form. hes our most experienced attacker apart from gerrard. Who is there to place him sterling? assaidi may be good but we dont know because he hasnt played.
ReplyDeleteYep I have heard he has attitude problems as well.
ReplyDeleteHere was a post from a PSG fan on Bleacher:

Hey Andrew, I live in France, Paris, and my favorite team is PSG. Here in France, Jéremy Ménez is not a fan favorite for multiple reasons: 1) Whenever PSG's n°7 doesn't play, he throw tantrums, tells the press he's not happy, complains to players and the manager: he's a misbehaved "diva", and his atitude caused him to fail at AS Roma. 2) I'm not a fan, and I saw PSG/Toulouse in October (I've seen 20 PSG games this year at the Parc des Princes), so I counted Jeremy's stats throughout the 90 mins (note: Toulouse is as weak opposition) 3 passes, 17 dribbles, 15 missed, 4 shots off target, 0 on target. He's an individualist, he makes Robben look like he passes more than Iniesta does. 3)(less important). He NEVER celebrates, after a goal, or a victory, or after a title. Only when he misses a dribble or a pass (when he misses the shot he starts screaming at himself). He does have a couple of good games a year, but... He will be available at the end pf the season if you're still interested though.

Nah...!
I think we are better off developing Sterling or getting Tom Ince than going for Menez.
ReplyDeleteIdeally I will like us to go for the following players:
GK: Guillermo Ochoa
CB: 2 of Fernando Amorbietta (Venezuela, Atletico Bilbao) , Benedikt Howedes (Germany, Borrussia Monhengladbach), Mamadou Sakho (France, PSG), Dejan Lovren (Lyon), Stefan De Vrij (Feyenoord), Rolando Martins Indi (Feyenoord), Tony Alderweireld (Ajax), Nicolas Isimat-Mirin (Valenciennes) and Shawcross (Stoke)
fullback: Ally Cissokho
DMF: 1 of Victor Wanyama, Mohamed Diame, Moussa Sissoko, Etienne Capoue, Yann M’Vila, Jeremy Toulalan or Lucas Biglia. Diame is a good player but has a dodgy heart condition.
CMF: 1 or 2 of Benat, Isco, Christian Ericksen, Sofiane Feghouli (heavily linked) or Keisuke Honda (contract running out so good timing)
Winger/FWD: 1 of Jesus Navas, Younes Belhanda, Arda Turan, Alexis Sanchez, James Rodriguez, Erik Lamela, Iker Muniain, Markel Susaeta, Matias Suarez, Cristian Tello, Dries Mertens, Siem De Jong, Alain Traore, Antoine Griezmann, Jeffren Suarez
Striker: 1 of Hulk, Roberto Soldado, Jackson Martinez, Stevan Jovetic, Mauro Icardi, Andre Schurrle, Leandro Damiao, Rodrigo, Bafetimbi Gomis, Lucas Ocampos, Wilfried Bony, Lacina Traore, Mauro Zarate or Alex Pato.
Edinson Cavani, David Villa, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar would be nice but two of them are old which won't fall under FSG's transfer policy and the other is almost as far out of reach and unrealistic as Falcao.
The talk right now is approx 4 players to improve the squad but if Carragher is retiring and (1 or 2) of Skrtel and Coates leaves, Carroll is finally sold, Sterling goes on loan and Borini is sold back to Italy as a failed experiment I hope we can boost the total signings to 6 or 7.
