'O Mito' to Anfield? LFC in pole-position to sign €28m South American superstar

After a season littered with individual errors and poor performances, Liverpool's defence is in need of a complete overhaul this summer, and the latest central defender to be linked with a summer move to Anfield is Vasco da Gama superstar Dede.

According to The Mirror:

"Liverpool are ready to commit massive funds to land Brazilian superstar Dede.

"Liverpool, United, Juventus and Benfica [have all made] enquiries about the 24-year-old"

The report further claims that Liverpool have 'stolen a march on their rivals', and established 'a relationship' with the private investment group that owns 55 per cent of the player, who is nicknamed 'O Mito' (The Myth) by Vasco's fans.

Vasco da Gama are in the midst of huge financial problems, and are currently being pursued by federal tax authorities for unpaid debts.

As such, director general Cristiano Koehler confirmed last week that Dede would need to be sacrificed to cover the debts. He told Reporters:

“We have to prioritise the payment of wages, taxes and federal agreements, so it is inevitable we will have to sell - so it is possible, in the middle of the year when the sale goes through, we can use the money to restructure the club and make it safe"

Vasco's rivals, Corinthians, are also interested in signing Dede. Head coach Tite told reporters recently:

"Dede is a very good player, and Corinthians will always be open to top level athletes like Dede. He fits the project."

When quizzed by reporters last year over the possibility of leaving Vasco, Dede - who has a €28m buyout clause in his contract - made it clear that he wanted to stay. He told LanceNet:

"I am not ready to leave. When I am, I will say. It is too soon to leave. Brazilian football is making me grow, I feel ready to represent the Selecao in a good way without having to leave the country."

At 6'4, the Brazilian is a man-mountain, and could be the imperious defender the Reds have been looking for ever since Sami Hyypia left the club in 2009. Given the club's current situation, however, it seems unlikely that he'll choose Liverpool over the likes of Man United and Juventus, but you never know.

If Liverpool landed Dede, then the spine of the team would begin to take on a distinct Brazilian structure: Dede in defence; Lucas in midfield, and Coutinho in attack.

'I'd buy that for a dollar' :-)

We haven't really sold players (for a fee) last two windows, most gone out on frees and we spent 50 million then(in two windows plus 7 million for Rodgers and money to man city for there scouts, we will sell players in the summer (skrtel, coates) should bring on 18 million... Rodgers even said in January the "purse strings will be loosen" which means more money will be spent....

  8. So he's not road legal? How is he going to get to the games?
Another farce for our once proud club.

  9. I don't know who this Hans Christian Andersen is, but that is probably because our Scandinavian scouting network has gone to shit.
Another farce for our once proud club.

  13. FSG are a canny bunch. they realise that by bidding on players they have little chance of getting (micha richards was one i can remember) it makes them look pro active and 'game'. i believe, privately they know full well certain players will not join but bid anyway.

Dede does look beastly, but i wonder how much he'd enjoy a tuesday night in january getting elbowed by some big donkey from stoke city.

  14. I'd say by the looks of him the donkey would break its elbow...Brazilian players move to clubs in Holland, Russia or Poland all the time, weather doesn't bother everyone. Him and Agger with Wanyama in front of them is seriously intimidating though...

  16. Any chance that this thread won't descend into another We Will or We Won't spend the money argument guys?
Most if not all of us have repeatedly made our views known on that issue- any chance of actually commenting/informing about the player? I'd like to find out more about him and hear people's views, not witness yet another petty squabble...
Love this guy's timing, his tackling seems to be just the ticket. Not much in the clip of him in the air, sure , he's tall, but anybody know if he's like Sami or Crouch?

  17. im not trying to prove anything, its called musing. perhaps your limited knowledge of english language made you misunderstand what i was saying.

  18. i don't understand the point of this thread, we will never splash 28mil euros on a player who's been playing in the brasileiro his whole career! i know we splashed a whopping 35 on big andy, but i'm sure fsg won't sanction these sorts of deals that only big spending clubs can afford. this is too big a risk and it won't be done! we will go for ashley williams this summer, so maybe we should be talking about him in lieu of this nothing rumour...

  19. Where in the article does it suggest LFC should spend 28m on Dede? With respect, perhaps you should read the post properly. It is a fact that Dede has a 28m buyout clause - I am merely passing on that info, which is obviously pertinent here.

  20. fair enough. but with top european clubs such at mufc, juve and benfica challenging for his signature, it goes without saying that his transfer fee will not be in the realms of agger's/skrtel's/coates'. imo, we will never pay more than 15 mil euros for an untested centre-half. moreover, you claim he's a "South American superstar", yet to most rational people, he isn't. of course, the definition of a superstar is subjective, however, he's yet to achieve anything in the game. he has played in brazil for his entire career and even at the age of 24, he has a meagre 6 caps to his name. the only true classy cb brazil have is thiago silva and other than him, since lucio's decline, the other spot is up for grabs. surely if he was a superstar, he would've got more caps than 6 by the age of 24? a true south american superstar is neymar. even though he's been in brazil all his career, he's been coveted by top european sides since he was 17 years old (to my knowledge) and he's already played 30 games for brazil with 17 goals. he's a superstar! i believe your headline is misleading ;)

    ReplyDelete
  21. misleading cos it sounded like it was gonna be neymar or damiao...

    ReplyDelete
  22. Dede is considered a superstar in Brazil. Ask any Brazil fan. You projected Neymar/Damiao onto the story, not me.

    ReplyDelete
  23. but you called him a south american superstar, did you not? in your headline you objectively call him that! or did i miss the part where you're from brazil lol? are you sure fans in bolivia, peru or ecuador will have all heard of him? i sincerely doubt it. i have two colombian friends and i doubt they'll know much about him, but if you ask them about, cavani, suarez, neymar, lucas moura, falcao, james rodriguez, aguero or messi, they will no doubt be more familiar! ask any south american fan who's considered a superstar out of the players listed above and dede and the answer will be unanimous

  24. I don't have time for this pedantry. If you want to moan about totally irrelevant stuff, knock yourself out.

    ReplyDelete
  25. but you have time to post pointless articles? i wouldn't consider it irrelevant. if you consider yourself a proper journalist, you wouldn't use the term "superstar" to describe someone who's barely close to actually being one. by using that term you exploit people and waste their time by making them read your opinions (which are made to look like facts) imo. for example you state that lfc are in "pole-position" to sign this guy. you make it sound like a fact! there've been no quotes on this matter except some rumours fabricated by the mirror - a tabloid newspaper! poor show! if you had an ounce of dignity, i'm sure you'd have time for this so called pedantry
