Confirmed LFC line-up vs. Spurs: Big surprise as senior star misses out. Injured...?

With Daniel Sturridge back from injury, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers will put out his strongest possible attacking XI for this afternoon's Premier League match with Spurs.

Joe Allen returns to the bench for this afternoon's game, and Sturridge comes back into the starting line up. The big surprise here is that Pepe Reina is not in the squad.

You'd think this must be an injury, but you never know. I'll update the post with more info as soon as I have it.

FULL TEAM: Jones, Johnson, Carragher, Agger, Enrique, Lucas, Gerrard, Suarez, Downing, Coutinho, Sturridge.

SUBS: Gulacsi, Wisdom, Skrtel, Henderson, Allen, Shelvey, Sterling.

SPURS TEAM: Lloris, Walker, Dawson, Vertonghen, Assou-Ekotto, Parker, Livermore, Sigurdsson, Dembele, Bale & Defoe.

SUBS: Friedel, Naughton, Caulker, Gallas, Huddlestone, Carroll, Holtby.

Reds hero Jan Molby is convinced that a 'rejuvenated' Liverpool will beat Spurs today. In his column for Eurosport yesterday, he enthused:

"I think Liverpool will beat Tottenham. Not only are Liverpool playing well but they finally getting great rewards for playing well.

"The signings of Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho have given Liverpool more options to win games. The organisation was always there, and the new style attractive enough, but Sturridge is a scorer and Coutinho creates goals; that was Liverpool’s problem earlier in the season".

Spurs had midweek game against Inter Milan, so theoretically, Liverpool should be the fresher of the two teams, and former Reds midfield Jamie Redknapp believes this could be vital. He told Sky Sports:

"The Reds have been able to have a solid week of training, focusing on this game. Spurs, despite getting some magnificent results, have not been playing great football recently. They've been playing well, but not at the very top of their game. And that's why I've got a feeling Liverpool will win this one".

Hmmm. I sense a smidgen of overconfidence here. Let's hope this doesn't breed any complacency in the team. Yes, it's at Anfield, and yes, the team is on a good run, but none of that really means anything. Spurs are a completely different proposition to Swansea (one eye on the cup; weakened team on the day), and Wigan (relegation fodder), so let's hope the players are 110% focused.

  1. Rodgers seems to really like clowning a lot. I would have put Coutinho on the left, Suarez on the right and Henderson behind them.

  2. Wow our midfield will be exposed....Holtby and Sigurdsson will be playing wide but will drift in centrally naturally unlike Lennon and Bale do....we are going to give up our major weapon which is possession

    ReplyDelete
  3. Here's hoping the defence is on top of their game today...

  5. spurs game on thursday should prove the difference so there can be no excuses from our side today,so come on you pool, think, hendo must feel hard done by,but rodgers calls the shots about time we beat someone above us ,been a waste of a season imo hope its not the final nail today

    ReplyDelete
  6. Going for a 3-1 today......COME ON!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  7. Almost correct, except it's Jones instead of Reina.

    Reina?????? Where he gone!!!!!!?:(

    ReplyDelete
  9. Seems like he's gone very attack minded today so think we're guaranteed goals.....
Just hope it goes the right way. Feeling very optimistic and think we'll get the points. I feel for Hendo too but at least he can come on if things start to go wrong, which leads to the fact even the bench is getting stronger.

  10. I was hoping that was a typo

    ReplyDelete
  11. Ahh fu*k Jones in goals....Ive lost a lot of confidence about his now,And Ive nothing against Jones I just dont trust him

    ReplyDelete
  12. lol take it Jamie didnt see us taking Inter apart.."Spurs havent been playing good football lately " haha er yeah whatever. Should be a good game always tough at Anfield is to close to call may the best team win.

  13. Its a shame assou-ekotto and defoe have just come back, the left back is very underrated. also dembele went off injured vs inter milan, maybe he wont be fully ready? Dont know much about livermore but he doesnt scare me like van der vaart or modric. Its surprising that spurs have done so well this season having lost those two big names. Shows how dembele and bale have stepped up. Also AVB wanted to get rid of Dawson, but hes been playing well.

    ReplyDelete
  14. It's no typo. Jones definitely starting. The weak link imo. (unless Pepe has sustained an injury?)

    ReplyDelete
  15. Jan Molby said that, not me.

    ReplyDelete
  16.  The amazing starts today.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Despite all the errors he's made this season, Reina missing out is a big blow.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Jones is decent BUT I always feel theres a massive mistake in him

    ReplyDelete
  19. lol dreamimg even if we win it will not happen

    ReplyDelete
  20. We did pretty well against Wigan without dominating possession.

    ReplyDelete
  21. He's having a calf. Or was it a calf problem?

    ReplyDelete
  22. apaz joe allen is having shoulder surgery?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Absolutely. Like the one against Oldham.

    ReplyDelete
  24. his shoulders arnt the problem its his feet

    ReplyDelete
  25.  our entire defense has been dropping clangers all year

    ReplyDelete
  26. Doesn't mean we should start our second best players in every position, though. Reina is, despite all clangers, still much better than Jones (first clanger today after 11:30 mins).

    ReplyDelete
  27. Great goal :D

    ReplyDelete
  28. Nice cute finish from Suarez. Kudos to Coutinho.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Is it only me or is the ref pretty biased in Spurs' favour?

    ReplyDelete
  30. we really do need some centrebacks who can win the ball in the air...that was to easy

    ReplyDelete
  31. I'd have to watch it again, but this one looked like clear offside. Ref is having a blinder, for Spurs.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Pity...Spurs have the momentum now,We need to come out strong in the second half

    ReplyDelete
  33. lol hope the second halfs better

    ReplyDelete
  34. bring hendo on for sturridge he dose not look match fit and the 2 shots hes had from long distance and to say the least hopeful angles were wastful

    ReplyDelete
  35. Johnson should have done better! Turning his back??!?!!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Yeah lets :)

    ReplyDelete
  37. this is very true he has done nothing. heavy touch when he shouldve been through to an open goal. Would've been good to take him off to defend a lead, but thats gone now. but hendo would bring much more energy

    ReplyDelete
  38. and we had a clear peno, but typical of our luck this season we dont get it

    ReplyDelete
  39. We've been second best in most departments for most of the first half.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I've watched it again. Defoe is about two metres offside and clearly intervening play (being just in front of the keeper). That goal should never have stood. Poor, poor refereeing (doesn't take anything away from our poor defending, though).

    ReplyDelete
  41. If BR did that you'd accuse him of negative tactics at home. Agreed Sturridge hasn't influenced the game yet but his pace makes defenders think! Hendo is more likely to replace Coutinho me thinks!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I've actually missed that. Can you describe the situation?

    ReplyDelete
  43. I fail to see the funny side in this one. Can you clear that up for me, please.

    ReplyDelete
  44. And now falling on his backside, too.

    ReplyDelete
  45. we are not playing that bad ...but as ive pointed out before beating bum teams 5 plonk means nothing if we cant beat whats above us...we need hendo on as we are running out of steam

    ReplyDelete
  46. agree M8 they are beginning to give us the run around

    ReplyDelete
  47. what is the point of bringing allen on if hes having a shoulder op ?...iin the words of hicks   game over man

    ReplyDelete
  48. what the hell? why is he bringing in allen and not hendo? allen is lightweight, not offensive and isnt dominating in midfield+ hes injured + hendo played better the last few months? getting sick with rodgers little boy called allen

    ReplyDelete
  49. We couldn't keep the ball at all. That's probably why he was brought on. He's been carrying a shoulder problem since October. Another game today probably won't make it worse.

    ReplyDelete
  50. STEWARD!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  51. this is the reply to his questian and answer insults

    ReplyDelete
  52. Why are you calling for a steward now? :-)

    ReplyDelete
  53. cause i just fell in love with one ;)

    ReplyDelete
  54.  if its that bad that he needs surgery ..1) he may fall awkward and make it worse ( hes not my favourite but i dont wish that on him ) 2) it must have hampered his build up training in some capacity

    ReplyDelete
  55. Why are Spurs allowed to kick out at our attackers in their penalty area and get away with it? Confirms what I've written above. The ref is favouring Spurs big time.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Haha Im not complaining now !!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Poetic justice, for now.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I hope the Tottenham fans that called us Dinosaurs etc will man up and come back on this site like they did yesterday

    ReplyDelete
  59. Yeeeaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  60. Lucas's passing has been awful today and johnson has been poor at the back, but we are 3-2 up.....come on!!

    ReplyDelete
  61. bring on henderson for lucas i say now.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Don't know. I'm not a trained medic. What I do know is that there are various health problems that MAY eventually need surgery and where one carries them around for a while to see how they develop.

    ReplyDelete
  63. about time we had some luck.....i can stay online now hoping the spurs lot come on

    ReplyDelete
  64. what a game :)

    ReplyDelete
  65. Ha Im not sure what to say about the game but Im over the bloody moon we won!!

    ReplyDelete
  66. I have to say I like the Spurs Manager he was honest in his interview about losing.
Shame the spurs fans don't have as much class as there manager

    ReplyDelete
  67. Clowning as you call him,or as we know him Downing had another good solid performance today, some people who refer to themselves as Liverpool supporters are always to quick to knock our players.Downing has improved big time...... support the lad!

    ReplyDelete
  68. We looked poor for much of the game rather trying to cancel them out and hitting them on the break than actually taking the game to them. We would have been a goal up at half-time, had the ref or the linesmen done their job as Defoe was offside and clearly intervening play when they scored their first. Don't know if Reina would have kept their second goal out, but we were defending poorly in that situation. After Allen got on we somehow kept the ball a bit better. Our equaliser was lucky given that suicidal back-pass or whatever that was meant to be. And Lloris having a Reina moment. We should have had a pen before the one we've actually got. This was very unnerving, to say the least. Glad we've won and glad it's over. The ref probably would have gifted them another goal if there was more time.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Great result. Could be the signs of some steel starting to happen at last...?

    ReplyDelete
  70. I'd be happy if the Liverpool fans who put us down at every opportunity would man up and admit we're making progress.

    ReplyDelete
  71. We played Zenit on Thursday then played Wigan on Saturday, if you play in Europe that's part of the package we won both games btw.

    ReplyDelete
  72. suarez crossed and coutinho was hauled over at the back post by walker.

    ReplyDelete
  73. What did he say ?

    ReplyDelete
  74. agree, we played very very poorly from 30 mins - 60 mins

    ReplyDelete
  75. While that would be nice, I think the scenario Septimus_red describes is more likely to occur.

    ReplyDelete
  76. lol you always come on after the event with your b"llshit

    ReplyDelete
  77. Yep, I've actually voted him MOTM today. Solid and good performance. It surely helped him to get my vote that most of our players were well below par today, but he kept his level. Well done, Stewart.

    ReplyDelete
  78. yes he was not offside is that clear enough for you i do not want i missinterperation of english to cloudy the fact

    ReplyDelete
  79. for a good 40 - 50 minutes i was thinking about how poor we were and that we were showing why are not top four. Thought we were well on top for the first 20-30 mins, they werent getting out of their half. But thenit all changed, they looked like scoring whenever they came forward.. johnson enrique very poor defensively.

So happy that finally we ground out a result! think we deserved it, but we were much better against city.

    ReplyDelete
  80. why would it have been negative the sub he made was mind blowing to say the least takes the most creative player of and puts the most dangerous out wide now thats comical how we won god knows no thanks to rodgers

    ReplyDelete
  81. joe allen is pants lol

    ReplyDelete
  82. Your the one who said we have no excuse against Spurs considering they played against Inter on Thursday in Europe. Again, all teams playing in Europe have to deal with that. We had to when we were playing in Europe. AvB even said Spurs have to deal with the fact of playing in midweek for european games. Hence why teams have to have big squads.

    ReplyDelete
  83. what it does prove is you dont need possession to win matches  ...ive not seen the stats but spurs seemed to have a lot more ball than us

    ReplyDelete
  84. Yeah Im just glad we came out of this one with 3 points

    ReplyDelete
  85. so you agree that they should have won but blew it

    ReplyDelete
  86. agree but your comment was saying that we beat wigan by the way,bit different than a trip to anfield or well it used to be

    ReplyDelete
  87. Defoe was clearly offside. And as he was standing right in front of our keeper, he was clearly intervening with play, too. What that has to do with my limited ability to speak your language is beyond me, though.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Thanks. I've obviously missed that situation.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Coutinho has been tiring and therefore been ineffective in all his starts for us so far at about the same time. He came back from injury when we've signed him which may or may not explain why he's not fully fit. After Allen came on we actually kept the ball much, much better and managed to turn the match around.

    ReplyDelete
  90. What you basically need to win matches is to score more goals than you concede. Not gifting possession to the opposition helps to keep their number of scoring opportunities down. Therefore, the team who dominates possession may have to score less goals to win.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Simple, we won because the team BR picked, trained and changed as he needed to scored 3 goals, and Spurs only scored 2. By the way Coutinho is not yet our most creative player.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Theres no one more fickle than a football supporter!! I couldnt believe the moaning and negativity on here before the game had even started. Try and put as much passion into showing your support lads!!

    ReplyDelete
  93. if that was offside we mite as well stop playing the game now

    ReplyDelete
  94. lol you stick with your messiah, imo hes a jester

    ReplyDelete
  95. whats to explain you are making progress,by the way i did not put spurs fans down

    ReplyDelete
  96. well said anteater, credits to him , he was one of the best today

    ReplyDelete
  97. I'd say you know a jester. At what stage will you actually praise BR and the team, particularly after a good victory?

    ReplyDelete
  98. Spurs are possibly the best and consistent side in the league. We beat them. We've had our massive fuck ups - they had theres today. We've missed chances - they missed theres today.

mate. its football thats how it works and i know your a Dalglish loyalist but he spent wrongly, made bad decisions with the press regarding suarez and prioritized the cups. This is why we have Rogers now and if youre a proper supporter you support whoever dont you?

I mean; its a long shot - but imagine if we reached the champions league this year. What would you think then? Is Rogers still a Jester then?!

    ...dont think so.

    ReplyDelete
  99. I struggle to see where l said you ever mentioned Spurs fans, and the obvious reference was to the team making progress not to me personally. Do you just like taking the piss,or do you ever be serious about the game?

    ReplyDelete
  100. Glad weve nailed that monkey on our back about not beating a top side but what is it with us conceding just before half time in loads of games!! We were cracker the first half hour or so then we couldnt seem to keep the ball, lucas was sloppy in particular. Great win though, my a*se was twitching when stevie stepped up for the pen :)

    ReplyDelete
  101. The referee was excellent today.

There was multiple challenges that usually would have been punished with a yellow that were let go.

I am still holding out hope for 4th spot.

Coutinho is a super little player, Suarez is world class. Totally irreplaceable.

Sturridge irritates me, he is super selfish I feel. He doesn't even celebrate goals that he doesn't score. His end product was lacking a little today.

    ReplyDelete
  102. That's not the point who our opponents are or where we played. The matter of fact is that if your playing in a Europe you should not expect leniency just because you played an extra. If you cant hack it then you clearly your not good enough for Europe.

    ReplyDelete
  103. ChampsWinnerTraore7:39 pm, March 10, 2013

one positive of the game is the mentality of the players being second best for most of the game and showing good character to turn around the deficit 5 months ago we definetly would of lost that game so it shows Brendan slowly but surely making progress and optimism for the business end of the season. Hats of to stewie who had a good game

    ReplyDelete
  104. brad jones done everything that was asked of him no chance with the goals . but it clear we need to sign some big units cos we looked again suss at set pieces we went missin for half an hour but abit of luck that happens in footy helped us out today.sometimes u have to win ugly but hey ho 3 welcome points

    ReplyDelete
  105. Please feel free to complain to FIFA about that particular rule, but as long as that rule exists it should be applied, even if you don't like it.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Your hatred towards Allen and maybe Rodgers is getting a bit boring. How about thinking of some other player to hate?

    ReplyDelete
  107. You beat me too it, Coutinho needs to work on overall physical fitness so at the mo we can get 60mins otherwise you risk injury! Jason, I agree Sturridge was less effective, I put it down to lack match sharpness but he still gave the option of the ball over the top. Nevertheless he put in a shift.
Downing is impressing me more he's growing in confidence.
Jason mate, I realise you must be upset but we beat the inform prem team which means our form wasn't down to inferior opposition! I put it to you my learned friend that BR's vision for LFC is slowly coming to fruition!

    ReplyDelete
  108. I have a creepy feeling that even if we won the league there wouldn't be some praise in it for Rodgers. Blind hate is just as bad as blind faith.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Enrique played really well aswell

    ReplyDelete
  110. no shit sherlock

    ReplyDelete
  111. Maybe the guys who have positive things to say only dare to come out now, because they'd have got murdered if they did before the game by those who will never be pleased.

    ReplyDelete
  112. just wish avb would sort that mack out its more suited for someone knockin on the door tryin to sell you the watchtower

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  115.  its a forum what do you want posters to do ..run around in the knack with a rogers bob hat on ...its fun to offer a critique..it wouldn't matter who was manager or who was playing i would pick faults ....really some of you guys should stop worrying about what others post and just post your opinions its just a laugh

    ReplyDelete
  116. that defoe back pass was all planned m8..at 2 1 down i knew we would come back and win by a penalty

    ReplyDelete
  117. cornelia and erko bale have gone apeshit over the treatment of their son gareth saying he is not a diver ! and they hate humans and their time will come!!

    ReplyDelete
  118. listen m8 spurs could have won that 4 1 and no one could have moaned it was hardly vintage stuff...ill take the win and the points but we where outplayed for long periods ....but hey maybe or luck is changing

    ReplyDelete
  119. downing was unsung today....it was our front players who kept us in the game ....lucas was poor in distribution and our defence was dire at times

    ReplyDelete
  120. I was sure that you'd know that anyway, but thought I mention it again as you seem to be pretty opposed to possession.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Listen, gilstrap, we are a long way off being mates! And listen further now. I have written in this very thread that we were not very good today, below par, Sherlock. I figured that out even without your endless wisdom. When we played at their place, we outplayed them for much of the game and still lost. I take a win when playing badly now. I'd welcome any reasonable and fair discussion with you, but am not entertained by your bickering one bit.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Come on gilstrap. The way that you are in the know you surely have noticed that the way some folks slate our manager and some of our players wouldn't have been tolerated on most Liverpool boards if Kenny or Rafa was our manager. At least be fair, I believe that you have the capacity for it in you.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Lol. They give you the watchtower for free, though.

    ReplyDelete
  124.  ive slated kenny and rafa on other forums before this ....i support the club not the manager if gerrad plays garb ill say so if suarez plays garb ill say so ...i have no rules on who i slate

    ReplyDelete
  125.  lol ....whats even funnier is your post has a like...luv it

    ReplyDelete
  126. we have more points in 2013 than we got in the whole of Jan - Jun 2012

    ReplyDelete
  127. agree ..dont like knocking lucas but i thought he had a shocker today...lost his markers and couldnt pass wind

    ReplyDelete
  128. So which stocks should I invest in?

    ReplyDelete
  129. im not opposed to possesion i am opposed to losing

    ReplyDelete
  130. Well, let's consider this: Not everyone is as super-human as you are. Most of us are mere mortals. Some even don't enjoy being insulted for posting an opinion they've really considered for quite a while. As someone else (VermHat) has written on here a few days ago, the haters are the loudest behind their keyboards. And I may add to that that they often are also not folks to have an articulate discussion with, as sad as that is. All opinions have their validity in their own right, only that the haters often try to vilify everyone who doesn't agree with their vociferous opinion. Most Liverpool supporters and actually most people I know find it utterly disconcerting to get slated and insulted for almost every single word they say. You are obviously a very tough guy, but not everyone is as tough as you. Most people are probably not. We'd have to ask some trained psychologist to get deeper into this subject now, but I am convinced that you get what I want to bring across.

    ReplyDelete
  131.  In the interview I heard he said that Liverpool deserved the win.

    ReplyDelete
  132. listen m8 Liverpool could also have won 4-1

    ReplyDelete
  133. and what do points make...well nothing if you dont qualify

    ReplyDelete
  134. Apparently you have no rules on who to praise either.

Or maybe you do - the opposing team.

    ReplyDelete
  135. Then we have something in common, for a change.

    ReplyDelete
  136. really ? didnt know that. there again ive never answered the door!!

    ReplyDelete
  137. No, I think the funniest part is where I've invited you to have a reasonable discussion. It's pretty obvious that you wouldn't want that.

    ReplyDelete
  138. Above everton, good enough ,for now

    ReplyDelete
  139. Sometimes Brian I wonder about guys like you , if you've actually ever even played the game . Why be so derisory in your uneducated comment . All Downing could have done in the last few months is perform as well as he has , without him today we wouldn't have won the game , I think you need to get a grip and support your team

    ReplyDelete
  140. Yeah, but don't say it too loud. You might get a lot of stick for it otherwise. Now better learn the following sentences: Rodgers is the worst Liverpool manager, ever. He only buys players whom he had trained before. Allen is absolutely sh1te at playing football and so is Borini.

May I add to you observation that we are 11 points better off than last season in the corresponding fixtures. That's another fact that one shouldn't say too loudly.

    ReplyDelete
  141. jk my post about bale?

    ReplyDelete
  142. To be honest I'm surprised we got away with the win today. We started well, but from the moment we conceded until Downing's goal I thought it's going to be a massacre.
After Downing's goal everything changed, and it's nice to be on the other side of defensive errors this season. I thought the refferee was ok, but I also believe there was at least one penalty call that should have been made in addition to the one given.

As for the players, Lucas and Sturridge were awful. Carra didn't have the best of games either(especially for Spurs's second goal).I think Downing, Agger and Enrique are the unsung heroes of today's match. Suarez, Coutinho and Gerrard are the sung heroes :)I was not impressed with Jones today. He seemed to fail to hold onto any shot, and luckily are cbs were aware of that and cleared every save he made that dropped into the penalty area.I honestly believe BR should have taken Lucas and Sturridge off sooner. I have no complaints about keeping Carra, and I'm pleasently surprised by the affect Allen's introduction have made both today and against Zenit. I was very surprised about Agger's abilty to win a ball today, and thought he was very good.
Very happy with the win, and hoping our front line keeps performing!

  143.  your reading to much into it...whether im tough or soft mentally or physically is irrelevant..im offering an opinion on players and performance ...fact one about today's game we won..fact 2 we rode our luck ..fact 3 some played well fact 4 some didn't..thats about the gist of it....im unsure about what a hater is i dont particularly hate anyone or anything in football ..its just a game whats there to hate

    ReplyDelete
  144.  any associated with the new world order

    ReplyDelete
  145.  ill keep my serious discussion for child poverty and genocide.....im sorry to disappoint but i can only be so serious about people kicking a ball about...

    ReplyDelete
  146. coutinho a few assists already and numerous through balls, id call that creative

    ReplyDelete
  147. great team belief and effort. agger and Johnson just poor defenders we really need to address these positions come summer, could have cost us today.
suarez just on another level where does he get the energy

    ReplyDelete
  148.  oo eerr sounds a bit rude

    ReplyDelete
  149. well i was in the st johns for 2 month so i know my stuff

    ReplyDelete
  150.  and the opposing manager as well

    ReplyDelete
  151. spurs fans always been sh#te, only few seasons ago they were booing there own players most games, big chips on shoulders

    ReplyDelete
  152. Allen was too insecure. those two wrong passes in few minutes were too much as he was brought in to keep it an pass it better than tired couthinho

    ReplyDelete
  153. if we get a defender who can win the ball in the air we wont be far off ...im a fan of johnson and enrique but we need a defence minded centreback who can win high ball and win it well..we also need a big defensive midfield player

  155. im not to sure what all thats got to do with qualifying for europe.....as for rogers how much silverware he wins will determine how succesfull he is..i hope he wins lots...curtino and sturridge i think are good buys ....allen and borini bad buys.....i think thats a fairly reasonable assesment

  158.  some people just don't appreciate the job lucas has to do, just because of a couple of misplaced passes he had a poor game?
he had a good game today cut out a lot of spurs attack through the middle

  160. We were awesome for large parts of the game. Just after the break is when spurs had their best of the match. However a fair few decisions didnt go our way - dembele on suarez, gerrard on bale (1st goal) and lucas on second goal were never fouls.

Well done to downing who was very good especially tracking back to defend - he showed his physical side which is what rodgers was complaining about early season. Enrique was good too. Johnson didnt have too good a game though. Carra didnt have much to do and that was surprising you'd have thought with the pace spurs have they would have exploited him.

There were 2 penalties that were stonewall penalties one on coutinho in the first half and one on johnson towards the end of the second - so all in all i think we deserved to win.

  163. im a big fan of the guy but whats the point in saying he had a blinder when he didnt...Imo the only liverpool defensive player  to have a decent game was enrique...the rest went to sleep at various times...cortino faded in the second half and sturridge was clearly unfit...downing was my Mom with suarez a close second...gerrard had a decent game but misplaced the odd ball

  164. Agreed, we definitely need a mascherano/essein type personnels.  Hopefully we can find a young gem on the cheap in the summer.  Mentioning of gems...Coutinho looked good today and so far seems a clever purchase considering his age and limited experiece in the PL.

  165. hes been really good since xmas, but the stigma from the 18months before still seems stuck, and people aren`t judging him on how he plays now, which is well.

  166. a friend of mine is a ambulance worker, and he always moans that his job is made hard by st johns people thinking they know there stuff, when often they don`t, thus meaning he has to correct there work, or there ill advice.

Guess he didn`t like the market either

    ReplyDelete
  167. I`d have moaned, and so would many others, who moan when we win, let alone lose 4-1.

Spurs were luckly, the first goal was offside, and the second was never a freekick. We had two clear pens not given, so pound for pound spurs would have been lucky to win... ohh and we had our ressie keeper in. We may not have played better than them, but there werent much in it, and in terms of chances, and what was given and what werern`t we still should have won, therefore again if spurs had I would have been unhappy

  168. agree, we def need a new CB, esp if Carra does retire, which i`m sure he will. A bit of height and strength wouldn`t go amiss, as we let in too many goals from set pieces and corners.

  169. where did I say he had a blinder? he didn't have a bad game either against a top attacking side, like some on here are saying. bit of respect due to the fact weve just beaten one of the bigger inform teams.

    ReplyDelete
  170. I agree, whats more if we have 3 good centre backs then playing 3-5-2 or 3-4-3 would be great options. Enrique and Johnson must be two of the best attacking full backs in the league.

    ReplyDelete
  171. he made a few good interceptions but also lunged in at alot of players and missed the tackle and left massive holes behind him doing so.
Not a good game but i not a horrible one either

    ReplyDelete
  172. He has, in fairness. Still, shushed his own supporters, never apologised for it, no place at LFC for him as far as I'm concerned. I can understand frustration, I can understand being annoyed with people not believing in you when you believe in yourself, I can understand doing something like that in the heat of the heat of the moment but it's been months now since that happened and still no apology. That just smells of contempt for the club's supporters to me.

  173. Great result. You're always going to get pressure playing against Spurs but we simply outscored them. Our defence was horrible again, especially for the second goal but so was theirs. I think both teams have showed why they're in the top half of the table but also why neither of them can manage a title push. But it was the result we needed to keep any hope of CL qualification or at least EL and we got it so fair play to the team and the manager. Coutinho and Sturridge have given us penetration. Where we kept running into brick walls before Christmas, we're getting in behind them now and a player like Suarez is lethal when he can run in behind defences.

  174. Yep, they do it. They give away books, too. Same with the Mormons. They give away the book of Moron and have really funny stories to tell. Still they are friendly people. One probably shouldn't open the door for scientologists.

  175. I wasn't particularly referring to you, so you are reading too much into it. My point was that some people just might not take things as lightly as you do, the snipping and insulting and such.

    ReplyDelete
  176. Well, you are still talking to people when discussing football. I don't see why these people should not be taken seriously. You basically disappoint me, because you don't seem to take many people seriously. Shouldn't have to do something with the topic people are discussing.

  178. I thought the two most dangerous wrong passes in the latter parts of the game came from Gerrard and Enrique respectively.

    ReplyDelete
  179. Allen was very good early on in the season, then his form dipped dramatically. A bit like Enrique last season. Doesn't make them bad buys out of a sudden. They've shown that they have a lot of talent to offer.
As for Borini, he still is very young, was hardly played in his strongest position and was unlucky with injuries, too. He didn't look like Fowler to me, but I'm reserving my judgement for now.

    ReplyDelete
  180. His best level still isn't exactly what a team vying for CL should be looking out for, imho. He's been consistent and solid for quite a while now, but he still doesn't beat his opponent very often. I'll give him credit for what he's been doing lately, but he isn't a natural match winner (imho) and we still should look to get someone more exciting, someone the opposition worries more about, in his position.
