Anfield Axe: FSG to dump Rodgers for one of the 'best coaches in the world'...?

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has endured a topsy-turvy first season at Anfield, and with the club currently 9 points adrift in the race for 4th place in the Premier League, the chances of making the Champions League places vanish with each passing week. Rodgers' Anfield project is, of course, a long-term endeavour, but rumours about his immediate future persist, and the name of Carlo Ancelotti keeps popping up.

Reports in Italy this week claim once again that the PSG boss is in the frame to replace Rodgers this summer. The Liverpool Echo is also reporting the story.

This is not the first time this year that Ancelotti's name has arisen. In February, a number of high-profile news organisations reported that FSG want the Italian boss to come to Anfield this summer, with French newspaper Le Parisien, claiming that Liverpool's owners secretly approached the highly successful boss:

"According to our information, Carlo Ancelotti was approached in November and December by three Premier League clubs including Manchester City and Liverpool"

If FSG did send a representative to talk with Ancelotti, it's highly likely it would've been Ian Ayre. Geographically, he's the closest member of the Anfield hierarchy, and I doubt Henry or Werner would fly all the way to France from the US for a speculative meeting.

When asked in a press conference recently about rumours linking him with a move away in the summer, Ancelotti responded:

"We will see how things stand at the end of the season and, if the club is happy, and me too, we will continue. Otherwise, there’s no other choice. It’s one or the other. I’m very happy here, but if the club is not happy, I will have no problem changing."

Clearly, the Italian is willing to move on, and in an interview last week, PSG President Nasser El Khelaifi admitted that the club will 'assess' things at the end of the season. He told Sky Sports:

"Carlo is one of the best coaches in the world, if not the best. I think he will continue, but at the end of the season we will assess everything. We will also assess my performance. This is normal, it happens at every club"

Ancelotti has always had good things to say about Liverpool. Most recently, when asked by CNN World Sport who he believed are the world's best fans, he said:

"In my opinion Liverpool fans. When they sing a song your hair stands up"

Ancelotti certainly has many advantages over Rodgers:

* Massive experience in the game.
* A long, winning track record.
* Worldwide respect for his achievements in the game.
* Experience of managing the world's best players.
* Ability to attract top class players.
* Experience of winning the Premier League.
* The personal authority that comes with success.

Is the writing already on the wall for Rodgers? A few weeks ago, I wrote an article outlining what I perceive to be undeniable proof of progress under Rodgers, and I still believe he's the right man to take the Reds forward.

However, you can't really argue with Ancelotti's experience and track record, and if the unthinkable happened, and FSG were crass and disloyal enough to dump Rodgers after only one season, then the Italian would be a good appointment.

  1. Whilst he is a top manager, I dont see the sense in chopping and changing all the time. Sat we did hire him, what if he finished outside the top 4? What then, do you axe him and move on.
I dont think there are many clubs that show constantly changing your manager will bring instant success, yes there are a few exceptions. But mostly a successful club will be built on stability, mostly...... Yes that was an alien reference there.

NO, keep Rodgers, we can't keep sacking managers, we need stability.

  3. Unless we have an end of season slump under Rodgers like we had under Dalglish, there should be no reason to dump him for Ancelotti. We're moving forward under Rodgers and despite some frustrating hitches along the way, our football has improved considerably. Having spent so much money on manager compensation, I doubt FSG would want to waste money again unless they absolutely have to.

There should be much more to gain if we invest in our defence and keep our star players than if we sack our manager again and consequently start playing a new system all over again. Back in December, this rumour was understandable because the club had barely made any measurable progress, but look at us now... If I am not mistaken, had the league started in January, we would be occupying the third or fourth position. This situation is practically the opposite of last year, were had it not been for a decent start, we would have ended up being relegated.

Now that we are starting to bear the fruits of Rodgers's footballing philosophy, it would be unwise to sack him. An important thing to consider as well is that our best players are loving Rodgers's way of playing, and that can only be a positive thing for the future when we would be able to recruit the best players again.

  4. Got to keep BR. I admit I was sceptical at first, but.I see real progress with him in charge. Ancellotti would only come to the Reds if he was guaranteed money to spend. I think FSG should back the man we have and give him the funds to buy a couple of proven winners as well as carrying on buying a core of talented kids.

  5. Jamie i think you have just summed it up in the list of advantages over Rodgers ! With BR its always phrases like 'he has the potential', 'maybe he will come good with time', 'maybe he has the right plan to succeed' but with ancelotti, it is; 'he has done it', 'his tactics are proven'. To be fair the book is still out on BR for me, I think he has the right idea on how the game should be played but lacks the tactical awareness sometimes to play ugly and win. If ancelotti did want to come, i would definitely support the decision as it is like asking some one who would you prefer; Xabi alonso right now; a world class player or Joe Allen someone that may one day reach the standard of Xabi Alonso. I would fully support Ancelotti taking over BR, but if it did not take off, I would also give BR another season. What i do not want to see is us kicking out BR and then bringing in Martinez or Steve Clarke. BR should only be replaced by world class, nothing else otherwise we would be in the same predicament next year, this is why this decision is hard, on one side I want to give BR time but another part of me knows that Ancelotti is the finished article and he gives fans more of a solid hope of possible success fairly quickly as he is proven and tested. In conclusion, its Ancelotti over BR for me!!!

    ReplyDelete
  6. BR should be given another FULL SEASON then at the end of the 2013-2014 season he can't really have any excuses about not been given enough time.
I expect to be next season to be in the Champions League Spot or really really close to it and instead be qualify for the Europa, which would mean that by Xmas 2015 the should be in a strong position for Champions League and by 2016 season should be pushing for a Premier League Title if BR makes progress.

Frankly Speaking, the only way Ancelotti would come is with a sack full of cash and a massive transfer kitty.
This would only be likely if FSG sell LFC to a Rich Arab or more likely a Chinese consortium.

I honestly think that FSG will sell up once we are in the Champions League places.
I think with the way the world is going Liverpool's long term future would be better served by the Chinese than that Arabs due to the decreasing dependency on Oil and instead being honest China is going to be the next Major economic power, everyone can see it.

  7. If Rodgers gets the sack I would strongly consider stopping supporting Liverpool while under the ownership of FSG. I am willing to sit through a season of rebuilding and the constant setbacks that come with it but I am not willing to watch a promising young manager being shown the door after a very promising albeit disappointing first season. Carlo is a great manager with great experience but I would rather Liverpool create their own great manager like we have done so many times in the past.
Anyway this is all just media crap. Everyone around the club seems happy from the players to the backroom staff and I believe BR is to thank for this FSG are no fools and will know that harmony is as important as experience in creating a winning club. I would challenge anyone to find a more committed manager in England. Nearly everything that happens at the club Rodgers is there to be seen having some involvement.

    ReplyDelete
  8. But wasn't getting a good young manager part of the plan of FSG? Ancelotti while ticks all the boxes, he is not young and may not even consider us since we ain't going into CL nor possibility UEFA cup. Moreover we have invested heavily on Rodgers and sacking him will blow another 10m from the budget for players. Sacking KD was 10m as well. So I think this is far from the truth.

  9. Not wanting to be picky or anything but how can something vanish with each passing week. Surely if it's vanished it's vanished ?

  10. its ancelotti for me ,rodgers has till the end of the season to turn it around or he has to go if we go unbeaten till the end of the season he may get a stay of execution(do not think that will happen at all the saving grace is that other players rather than allen will get a chance and could save him) but if fgs have been sounding out other managers whats the chance if we still have rodgers in the summer, some fans hopes of big signings will be dashed (not mine i did not think they would anyway)imo rodgers will be gone some time next season ,giving fsg excuses not invest for another season, its sad times at anfield

  18. I sincerely doubt it. Obviously Ancelotti is a great manager we should be happy to sign when we need one. But right now, I think Rodgers has done enough to show FSG that he's progressing with his plans. FSG are businessmen, not idiots. When Kenny showed progress they not only gave him another year to continue but they also gave him a truck full of money to help him. I see no reason why that should be different for Rodgers. Obviously Ancelloti will be full of praise for our supporters after witnessing the miracle of Istanbul from a front row seat. Obviously every manager in the world would like to work with a crowd like that behind him. He has nothing left to prove, he does well wherever he goes so I'm sure that if we ever do need to approach him, he'll sign. It's just that we don't have to right now, which is great, and I think Rodgers has convinced many (yet not all) people who had their doubts when he was hired.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Rodgers really needs another year IMO. If he's dumped now then we have to start again. Whilst I'd be more than happy with Ancelotti as manager I do believe that Rodgers needs and deserves more time. Granted the results have not gone our way but we have definitely made progress under his management and more importantly its clear that as the season has progressed we have vastly improved. If we can hold onto our quality players this window and add a few more we stand a good chance to push for the top 4 next season. I dont think any of us expected to be in the top 4 this season, or at least I certainly didn't, so why is everyone moaning now that we aren't? Next year will be a better indication of where the team is at. If we aren't in the top 4 next year or at least seriously challenging for it then we should consider a change but I believe it would be counter productive to sack Rodgers at the end of this season.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Fully agree. He has definitely done enough to be given at least one more year. Its clear progress has been made. We are starting to play beautiful attractive football and if more consistent results can be had then we will be a serious force for years to come. Its too early to sack Rodgers this season.

  21. support BR financially and see what kind of great managers is he. it is unfair to blame him as he took charge following the silly Dalglish signings.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Stability is required and also a little patience ... In my opinion BR is doing a decent job although he has being found out on a couple of occasions especially in recent away games against Stoke and Southamton were we were lightweight in midfield..Watching us play in Anfield this season fills me with hope as some of our football has being magic.... Carlo Ancelloti ffs of course he has the experience but if u look at the clubs he's managed, he always had buckets of money 2 splash on players and from what i can see PSG aint runaway leaders in France even with the squad of players at his disposal... Time for Barca 2 burst his bubble....In BR we trust YNWA

    ReplyDelete
  23. Rodgers needs time, while there is no doubting ancelottis experience, it would tarnish the clubs reputation to fire Rodgers only 1 year into a job. Then there is the building period required by ancelotti to build a team, it doesn't make sense.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I hear ya Mac, BR need's to just go about his business quietly and quit . the predicting and over hyping our players performances!!! I'm sure he will have learned plenty this year. 3 Quality additions required for next year.... Dante, Michu and Erikesen

    ReplyDelete
  25. rodgers net spend is nearly as much as kennys ,kennys silly signings have out performed rodgers signings ,leave the bottle alone at get back in touch with aa

    ReplyDelete
  26. for starters please put in br i trust you do not speak for everyone and acouple is two ,three at a push ,well heres a couple more fa cup mansfield ,oldam league wba twice villa ,oh sorry thats five more not a couple

    ReplyDelete
  27. tarnish the clubs image did fsg not do that with hodgeson after half a season ,never mind what they did to kenny

    ReplyDelete
  28. Don't want to mention the enemy, but look what stability has done for the mancs. Fergie was close to the sack, but given time turned it around. I'm not suggesting BR gets that much time but I really think he will install this passing game into the youth set up and academy teams and eventually turn us into contenders. Fair enough, some of his tactics backfire, but he has got it right more times than not in the 2nd half of the season. If we got Sturridge at the start of the season, we would be challenging for the top 4 anyway. The 2nd half of the season has been much better. We need 2 centre halves, Xabi and another wide forward IMO to turn us into a top 4 side. YNWA

    ReplyDelete
  29. Its an interesting one because, like you said Jamie, Ancellotti's record speaks for himself. But what might be even more important than that imo is the credibility he will bring to our rebuilding process in the transfer window. Sure BR has done a great job for the style of play and I'm not saying we should sack the man already but I am saying that while promising stars that we've been linked to (eriksen, hummels, etc) might say no to LFC considering our current position, a man of Ancellotti's star power might be enough to bring in some major coups. But like I said, I'm satisfied with where the club is going and am more than happy to give BR another season. But I can't help but wonder how many players looking to move this summer will say "Liverpool is a great club, but BR is not famous enough for me and I want to play for the best." Ancellotti is considered one of the best while BR, we're hoping, can be a future best. Its all about whether you want success now or are willing to wait (and its a gamble) for it later between the two managers imo

  30. What's so sickening about supporting a manager against nay sayers like you? Look Jason I really think you should consider becoming a Chelsea supporter. That way you could enjoy watching a new manager every couple of months like you want and you would be surrounded by lots of other negative fans who think that constantly berating the team is beneficial to the club.
If all our fans had your attitude Shankly would have been kicked out the door halfway through his first season.

If your goner put a comment at least don't insult the person personally... Also it took kennys signings a year to perform, took coutinho,Sturridge a few games, also Allen at the start then his form dipped, but he will come back fresher next season. Rodgers needs time not people on his back.

  32. I would be shocked if Rodgers is removed. Whilst I'm not a fan, he is everything FSG wanted - young, cheap, not-too-demanding. If he was to go, then it would show just how ruthless FSG are.

    ReplyDelete
  33. There's nothing more "disastrous" than your spelling.... of disastrous

    ReplyDelete
  34. I'd happily see Rodgers removed for a world class manager like Ancelotti. Some Liverpool fans need to come into the real world and stop the blind faith nonsense in Rodgers. He only got the job because FSG couldn't attract a top class manager.

23 years and counting means we need to hire the best manager we can and stop wasting time on the like of Hodgson and Rodgers. Absolute B rate managers, at best.

    ReplyDelete
  35. The tap water is now wine? If it's red I'm moving over tomorrow!

    ReplyDelete
  36. We need a change, and desperately.
Stability is a real bad idea when we are a constant solid mid-table performer, while our transfer spending in the last two windows has been second highest in the league. Rodgers is not up to the task, and that is very obvious.

Ancelotti is not the right alternative either. We need a young, hungry manager who is more pragmatic and intelligent, and less full of himself than Rodgers. Ideally, we should bring Sammy home to manage us. He has everything it takes, and has proven himself in Germany in a far more impressive manner than what Rodgers has done here for us.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I think Rodgers is doing a good job in rebuilding the side and should be given more time. It wasnt a easy job and at times he is cringeworth but he has the team starting to play some nice stuff and now has some decent attacking players to help Suarez altho Borini was a poor signing. The team is startin to play a better brand of football than they have in years imo and you can see they are headed in the right direction. I think theyd be mad to get rid of him now. Give him another season and more funds ...

    ReplyDelete
  38. They did with Kenny, hodgson was not their choice and the team was in disarray on the pitch. We'll take Chelsea's mantle if we keep hiring the messiah every ten month's not to mention the settlement fees.

    ReplyDelete
  39. King Henry the 8th was ruthless with his wives and it took eight goes to get that right! Thats a lot of years of not winning the league and it would be like fsg are saying they got it wrong again,

    ReplyDelete
  40. A lot of people would be upset if Brendan Rodger got the sack. I would be upset but i wouldn't be that devastated. If Carlos Ancelotti is indeed available FSG feel that he can do a better job at attracting top class players. Ancelotti has worked with big names and won big trophies Rodgers on the other hand hasn't really done that much. It is obviously not the fault of Brendan Rogers if he is canned as Liverpool manager in my opinion. He hasn't had enough time to build anything at Anfield. FSG see Ancelotti as someone who can better attract big name signings. Let's be perfectly honest he can attract bigger names than Rodgers.

The obvious problem I see is that Rodgers is a man who is still learning his craft. He seems to be to be still experimenting to find a winning formula. I personally like the fact that he embraced tiki-taka football and has tried to mode. His team has suffered this season as they tried to be more like Barcelona . I have to say that i really didn't see too much one touch foot-ball on display this season. Not nearly as much as i see when i watch Barca.

The only problem I see with signing Ancelotti is that the Italian will need assurances that he will be given an extensive transfer kitty. Having been spoilt at Milan and now at PSG. It would seem like a big step down to come from mega big club to a club that is only mega big in name alone. The ability to pursue big names might be tough if he doesn't get the backing he needs.

FSG will probably hope to lure big names by installing Ancelotti as manager but they should be prepared to spend big. Big name manager expect to work with big name players. If you don't give them what they need to go after big signings they pull a Mourinho on you.

    ReplyDelete
  43. The Liverpool Echo is reporting the story - under Liverpool FC Rumour Mill, says it all really. Suppose it'll bring a smile to a face here and there for a day or two. FSG are saying it's a long term project, guarantee they wont sack a manager this year ....... move on!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Right so if in some bizarre turn of events Rodgers was sacked tomorrow and the sith lord Ferguson was named manager how happy to support would you be? I started supporting liverpool because of the history of loyalty within the club. If BR did go he would be the fourth manager in a row to go without a fair chance(IMO) Managers make mistakes and teams lose games, that's football. He is slowly getting it right. It can take 3-4 transfer windows to get a team right and by the looks of things we are getting there. before the Southampton defeat there were very few complaining and my guess is after our next win things will be the same!

    ReplyDelete
  45. It would make FSG look a lot like h&g, and go against all they have said previously. I just can't see it happening. the time to bring in a 'huge' name would be at the end of next season if buck didnt serve up the goods.

I dont think carlo would focus much on youth either. he'd want ready made superstars

All them 3 players took a year to bed into the team, also Allen worst? No, he was a good player but he form dipped when Lucas came back, also borini hasn't had time, so you can't really judge him after 14 games in which most were from the subs bench.

  52. Invest much more money with highly rated players and sell the remnant of Benetiz :Reina,Skertel,Lucas and the remnant of Dalglish: Downing ,Coates,Henderson, Carroll,.With such players even if managed by Ferguson, Guardiola and Mourinho collectively, Liverpool will struggle for a place in the top ten.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Now I'm going to play devils advocate because, like I said in my previous post, this is an interesting situation.

You infer that Ancellotti loves us so much that if we came knocking he would answer the call (and by the evidence I would agree). However I ask, where was his name at the begining of the season? Our two frontrunners for the manager position were BR and Martinez and, at the time, I'm sure you would agree most fans were shocked by the pedigree our fall-from-grace now attracted.

Fast forward 8months and we have one of the best coaches in the game looking to come to us. There is a real chance that if BR fails to deliver next season we could be looking at the likes of Warnock or worse as our next coach or praying for Hyypia to return home. Wouldn't it be safer to jump onto the more steady, proven vessel in Ancellotti?

Its a game of odds because, like trying to sign top talent, we may miss out on them if we don't act. In this case, we might miss an amazing opportunity to sign a great proven coach because if things go sour, we might not have this opportunity for the forseeable future.

(I'm not saying we should fire BR, I'm satisfied enough to keep him for another season. I just want to shed light on the other side of the coin that's being overlooked)

    ReplyDelete
  56. I'm not sure but I think Ancelotti's comments are from a while back. From before the new year anyway. I believe he would come to us regardless of what our situation at that time would be. A club like Liverpool will always attract good managers because of the history and pedigree of the club. Everyone wants to be the manager that made us great again. As a matter of fact, I think the worse we are off, the more interesting it makes us. Look at Man U, they're going to have one hell of a horrid time whenever Ferguson retires to find someone to take over. Who wants to be the guy to follow the most succesful manager in the club's history? Who wants to be the guy to have to fill those shoes? There are only few that could and even fewer that would imo. They'll find someone, no doubt, as some managers have big ego's too. But as you can see there's two sides to every story, whether it's one of success or decline.

    ReplyDelete
  57. FSG, me thinks, will stick with Rodgers for another season as I think they'll want stability.

    ReplyDelete
  58. got to laugh, would he really want to step down to a club with no champs league and clueless tight owners.

maybe should be grateful of what weve got and try be a bit more realistic, im not the biggest fan of Rodgers, and im not the biggest fan of half our squad of players, inconsistent and pretty gutless who cant put the same effort and energy in for more than a month of games.

if were looking for a different manager with experience who ticks most of the (ancelotte) boxes then there is only one man who would come in and that's rafa.
who ever comes in, it will be a similar story not enough funds and week players already here who are not up to it.
fsg are going the same way as the previous clowns......................were laughing stock

    ReplyDelete
  59. I can't see Rodgers getting the boot after one season, especially as there's been clear improvement in results in the second half of this season. Unless there's a mutiny amongst the ranks within the squad and the senior players want rid of him, FSG will stick by their appointment for at least one more season. I also believe Rodgers will get a reasonable transfer kitty to spend - perhaps even bigger than expected - should if Reina and possibly Skrtel decide to leave this summer. But Suarez won't be leaving when there's a World Cup the following summer. Most top players won't risk the prospect of not settling quickly at a new club in case it impacts their involvement in the tournament. This may not apply as much to Reina as a keeper but it could certainly stop Skrtel from making a move now.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Well they did get it wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  61. what rogers did at Southampton was gross misconduct...read his interview on Liverpools site....he says allen has been in pain and you could have broke his shoulder with your thumb...yet he left a fit and in form hendo on the bench.....and this is the guy to lead us

    ReplyDelete
  62. Furthermore, he then said Hendo has been superb, and he can always count on him...So play him?

    ReplyDelete
  63. Yeah, I think that's the whole point of the plan going forward, Rodgers is part of the plan. The idea is that he is here for many seasons, otherwise a 65 year old manager would of been hired.

However I think if we start next season poorly, Rodgers could get the axe. He's been good and bad at times this season, style of play is evident and the development of Sterling and Suso can be recognised, but the treatment of Hendo and Carroll, particularly Hendo who was dumped on the bench has been disappointing.

    ReplyDelete
  64. If FSG grow an absolutely massive pair and sack rodgers, then having ancelotti waiting there behind the stage curtains is a must, otherwise we are a complete mess again. Rodgers should be given another year though.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I would like to keep Rodgers till at least jan and see how he gets on after the summer and how he starts next season. If by then we arent in a top four place I would say fair enough time to change.

Carlo is no doubt a excellent manager and his win % is extremely good. He would be a good manager for any team in the world. For some reason though dispite all logic saying he would be good he doesn`t fill me with excitement.

If Rodgers does go there isn`t many good options to replace him right now. I am loving our style of football even though we aren`t winning enough. Van Gaal was always my choice but that ship has sailed and I can only think of a few others who fill me with excitment and I don`t think they would come to us right now.

I like the team that is being build, I like the flair that we are getting but do see things need to improve more. I hope Rodgers can do it as I think it would nice to have got a manager in who wasn`t world famous and therefore may have some loyalty to us.

If the case happened where FSG did sack Rodgers then getting Carlo would def be a good replacement in terms of becoming a winning team although im sure there would be a long list of other teams wanting him too.

Chelsea kinda kill managers reps. They take the worlds best then sack them after a year and this kinda makes you forget how good that manager was.

  66. Are you talking about the 8th most expensive player on the planet, AC? Another fan that talks about net spending but never understand the meaning of it. KD's pieces of biz was the worst that one can ever get.

  67. man city and Chelsea have proved the obvious thing, spend spend spend and you will have success, they were both in a similar position we are in, ambitious rich owners in and bought success its the only way forward.
    sadly.
be grateful for what we have because we wont get any better, jose could come in (which he wouldn't) and he would do no better with these owners.
we are a cup team at best so get used to it and support, be realistic, we are going no where with fsg, everton spurs and arsenal are better than us, let alone the ones above them were light years away from them.
be prepared for a usual summer with loads of speculation and Rodgers firmly in charge, and next season will be a little improvement on this one..........get in the real world that's how it is now.
don't believe every thing you read and dont believe what you want to believe, glory round the fields of anfield road os long gone and far away.

  69. As soon as a 'fan' says 'I would stop supporting them because....' I KNOW they are a fairweather supporter and they are not worth listening to! I don't support Stevie G, FSG, BR or Jamie C. I SUPPORT LFC. End of story. Red till I'm dead no matter who what when where or why things might not be as good as they could be.

If my wife makes a few mistakes I tell her so but do I ever says 'if you don't improve I'm gonna stop loving you'? Absolutely ridiculous! My love for her is way deeper than any mistakes she could make. My love for Liverpool Football Club is way too deep for me to ever consider supporting any other team.

Dislike BR if you must (typical view of short-sighted fairweather supporters who demand a winning side within a year or they want changes!) but support the club with your dying breath..... Or go and join the glory hunting fans at Chelsea or City!

    YNWA.... And I mean it!

  70. No way will this happen, the Italian media is full of more crap than the S*n ever managed to think up!

BR is doing better than Kenny did .... Sorry but it's a fact! People whine that BR wasted money on Allen and Borini (the former is actually not that bad, the latter has been more injured than fit) but they ignore the signings of Sturridge and Coutinho who have been excellent so far. Kenny signed Caroll who is goin to cost us at least £20m when we sell him. He also failed to get anything out of Adam, Downing or Henderson. Adam is gone as is the money we wasted on him, Downing is now playing well because of the way BR has handled him, Hendo has improved a lot so could either be played or at least sold without much loss so we can raise funds for new players.

So get with the story here and stop the whinging. We are on the road to genuine improvement that is sustainable for the first time since Rafa and the chance to be a lot better.

  71. kenny dalglish is a better manager than rodgers ,and fsg have gone on record saying if we would have won the fa cup kenny would still have been sacked! carlo won't leave PSG unless he get's a proper warchest so happy days but kenny should have been given another season and if they were still not happy then bring in a top boss, but don't sack a top manager like kenny for a novice like rodgers

  75. Kenny was a POPULAR manager and rightly so, he's a legend. He has a track record both as a player and as a manager that stands against any. BUT he WAS a great manager is much more accurate than he is. His main problem was clearly that he wanted us to play like the Liverpool of old and with the same tactics. They were great back then but the game has changed and the best teams are the ones who have adapted to those changes. Indeed the very best are the ones who have created those changes and left others to follow in their wake.

Nobody loves King Kenny more than I do. But to suggest we should have stuck with him and not given a young and exciting manager a chance is to wear rose-tinted glasses and yearn for the past. BR is the present and from what Ive seen so far I am happy for him to be the future because I see change and I see progress. You can't only measure that by counting points or league positions, not in the transition stages. Patience is needed now but we will get there.

  76. i agree with most of your post but whys it typical view to dislike rodgers i do not dislike him i just think he is out of his depth and as i have stated before i do not blame him for jumping at the chance at a big club,i blame fsg for giving him the job with such a lack of experience

  78. Apologies, I didn't mean to say that you personally were a fair weather fan, I try not to make the comments personally directed as I don't know you. I was referring to the comment of 'I might not support them because...' As a general thing. No offense intended.
