Swansea City revelation Michu has admitted for the first time that he is willing to move to a different club if he gets a 'good proposal'.
The Spaniard - described this month by Arsenal's Santi Cazorla as an 'incredible player' - extended his contract with Swansea in January, but in an interview last night, the 27-year old Spaniard - who has 19 goals and 4 assists for Swansea this season - seemed to hint that he'd be open to a move. He told TalkSport:
"To move to another team, there has to be a negotiation with the club and I have to get a good proposal.
"To date I have not received anything."
Why would Michu say something like this if he isn't willing to consider a move to a different club? Surely, when asked, he'd just say 'I signed a new contract and I'm going nowhere'?
His comments sound like a veiled 'come and get me' plea to bigger clubs. I don't doubt Michu's commitment to Swansea, and I'm sure all the nice things he says about the club are true. However, like most footballers, he's probably ambitious, and I'm sure the Spaniard realises that his first season in the Premier League has opened a lot of doors.
In December, Michael Laudrup seemed to suggest that Michu could leave Swansea for £30m. He told The Independent:
"We have the example of what Liverpool paid for Joe Allen, if they have to pay double for Michu there are few clubs who could afford that. Joe went to Liverpool and you know more or less what they paid for him, but a guy who has scored many goals must be worth a lot more, so you work out the figures".
A couple of days before Michu signed his new contract, Laudrup stated the following about the striker's transfer situation, the Dane explained:
"I'm not the one putting the price tag on him. We all know the general economic situation in the world, so there really aren't that many clubs who can buy him. I don't know about the summer. Ask my chairman".
Reading between the lines, this sounds to me like, privately, Laudrup probably believes there is a strong chance that Michu might leave in the summer. Realistically, it's almost a foregone conclusion:
* After paying only £2m for him, Swansea could potentially make an amazing profit, and for a club that's only been out of the Championship for two years, the money could be too hard to turn down.
* Clubs are already circling Michu, and if continues his form until the end of the season, they will be lining up to try and sign him.
* Swansea are clearly a superb team, but Michu will be 27 soon, and entering the prime of his career. As such, if he wants to compete for the big trophies, he'll know that a move to a bigger club is necessary.
* No disrespect to Swansea, but I wouldn't be surprised if Michu sees the Swans as a stepping stone to a club that's more capable of challenging for the Champions League.
It wouldn't surprise me if Swansea extended Michu's contract to ensure that they get a big fee for him in the summer. This is standard practice: the more years left on a contract, the more expensive the player.
Realistically though, there's no chance (IMO) that any club will pay £30m for Michu, even if he's worth it. As Laudrup stated, 'everyone knows the general economic situation in the world', and if players like Lukas Podolski, Olivier Giroud and Demba Ba can be bought for less than £12m in the current market, there's no way Swansea will get £30m for Michu.
In his column for The Mirror recently, Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson chose Michu as the signing of the year. He said:
"Robin Van Persie has been outstanding but he cost £22million while Michu cost £2million. It’s a no-brainer. He proves that you can steal players from La Liga. There are bargains to be had. Most of the teams in the Spanish League need the money and so all of these big fees are being thrown around but you can pinch players over there".
Prior to his move to Swansea, Liverpool were heavily linked with a move for Michu, and he would be a superb addition to the squad this summer. Worth a bid to test Swansea's resolve?

suck a fuckin huge penis you fucking pieces of human garbage i have had enough of this shit
ReplyDeletehe was bought for 2 millon now he is 15 times worth that???????????????
what?
how much is suarez worth then???? since michu is nowhere his level also a
year older...
FUCK ALL; SUAREZ iS NOT MOVING FOR ANYTHING LESS THAN 70M £ if fucking michu is worth 30m
jaimie transfers are dictated by circumstances eg lenght of contract left ect(owen springs to mind)and lets face it swansea will see us as mugs after our last raid on them ,michu is a good player but would he be able to make the step up required at lfc ,and also next season will be a bigger test as defenders will know more about him,and finally hes to old our buy them young policy is a joke,27 as far as fsg,s policy stands he mite as well be 37,players have to have a chance to make profit otherwise there not interested
ReplyDeleteHe is just a flash in the pan. No more Swansea players please
ReplyDeletedisagree swansea have some good players its just rodgers chose the wrong one
ReplyDeleteinfact lets go for there manager hes young not much managerail experience done better than there previuos manager, after losing there best players ,and mite have a plan and a plan b
ReplyDeleteJust a thought, how about Wildred Bony?
ReplyDeleteOur supposedly top class scouting team needs to find the sissoko's, michu's and such like before sides like swansea. surely we'd be better off risking a few of those type of players as opposed to 35m carroll types.
ReplyDeleteNo use taking their manager, you'll be insulting and slating him after a few games especially if he doesn't promote hoofball and doesn't win the league cup.
ReplyDeleteBony is a forward player. he will not be able to replace JC or MS.
ReplyDeleteJoe Allen very good on hold ball...vision passing....BUT very bad on ariel and win ball back....
ReplyDeleteI thought we were looking for another striker hence the discussion on Michu? Unless I've got the wrong end of the stick! IMO I prefer Bony over Michu in terms of his overall physical attributes.
ReplyDeleteHe started the season brilliantly, but im wondering if this is partly due to the fact that some teams didnt expect it. Since the turn of the year, he has only scored twice (in the league).
ReplyDeleteHe is a good player, but im not sure if he is top 4 quality? I think he would need to prove himself for another season, and then you could argue, with his age, it might not be worth it.
Lazy scouting has plagued us for years, Rafa was the best at looking overseas. Also successive managing directors & chairman have not marketed us very well globally to increase our appeal. Dangling should go back to being an ambassador & help get LFC's name known e.g finding sister clubs. Combing through the top European leagues, Africa & South America is a priority, now we have a philosophy we need to stick with it & look for for players to fit in. So far we're a club who have too many square pegs in round holes!
ReplyDeletehehe 30 million Cyprus Pounds maybe. We should actually tell whoever comes in with a bid for Suarez to wait until Michu is sold and then multiply what that sum is by five because that would be his actual worth.
ReplyDeleteBony is almost a dead cert for West Ham. He wants to move to a bigger league and play regularly and then, maybe, move to a bigger club. Not a bad idea. More players his age should have that kind of wisdom.
ReplyDeleteLol! Casting out the bait Jason?!
ReplyDeleteNikita jelovic anyone ?
ReplyDeleteagreed. michu at 2m, great. michu at 10m+, im not sure. It appears as if, 2x CB's(to replace carra and ms), a DM with a little more under the hood than lucas, 2 x forwards, and maybe ince too PLUS a number 10 to rotate with coutinho(probably eriksen) and maybe a left back are on the shopping list.
ReplyDeleteAllen started off well but his form dipped dramatically - he has a good brain but needs to develop more upper body strength like Lucas has - but he's still young I'm sure he'll come good or at least be worth what we paid for him
ReplyDeletesales-Jonjo(6m), MS(9m), Carra( 5m a season wages gone), downing(9m), henderson(9m), Carroll(12m), spearing(1.5m).
ReplyDeleteIs Wilfred's mum available?!
ReplyDeleteimo we will never get back what we paid for him i hope i,am wrong and were fighting of bids from real and barca for him at the end of next season but i just cannot see anything in him whatsoever
ReplyDeletelol i know but you always land a big one sgmm bit within seconds;-)
ReplyDeleteplease m8 we played good football last season the luck was against us ,did you start watching football this season ,and the league cup as you try and degrade got us into europe something your messiah mite not deliever at all this season ,and if i,am quick enough to slate rodgers by your statement your quick enough to slate kenny
ReplyDeletelol trouble is that swansea 2nds (liverpool) are not a good team, so dont worry yourselves over it :)
ReplyDeleteThink you missed the decimal point when valuing AC!
ReplyDeletePlease eriksen come here!!
ReplyDeleteLOL. we are lucky that teams like stoke exist in that respect, although im pretty sure the toon will take him back for 23m less than they sold him for. he is an oversized donkey who had half a decent season before kenny pictured the old blackburn model working again some 20 years later and got over excited. There's going to be a big loss to suffer indeed but surely 10m for him no jamie? Buck needs that kitty!
ReplyDeleteallen is a one trick pony ...and he fluffs that one ...it wont matter as him and rogers will be gone in the summer ..watch this space
ReplyDeleteSeem to remember a similar article been written about Jelavic last year and the same things been said bout our scouting system then..
ReplyDeleteNow he can't hit a barn door I don't hear too many people, including the author, claiming we as a club or our scouting system has missed the boat on him.
This happens year in year out in the PL .. For every Michu there are 99 other 2m pound players who are absolutely average.. Everybody wants to find a gem on the cheap.
But it's only the smaller clubs that can afford, game time wise, to try these type of players out.. It's the way it's always been.
Besides he's not done much since Christmas.. 2 goals and 1 assist in 12 games..still a bargain a 2m but he's definitely gone off the boil.
That is very true, although it doesnt make jelavic a bad player either. sissoko is the most glaringly obvious miss as far as im concerned. whatever people say about 16m henderson since his 3 decent games, sissoko is leagues ahead of him in terms of ability and cost just 4m. also we are now set up to be the type of side that affords such players the necessary game time.
ReplyDeletehe was doing it in the spanish league also. ive no doubt he'll be sold should someone bid more than 10m.
ReplyDeleteWe might be set up to afford some of these types of players a little more game time this season, while in transition, but not next season..
ReplyDeleteRodgers has to start delivering next season in terms of consistency and a serious push for top 4. Manager's in his position are far less likely to take chances on these types of players..
Anyway don't think a lot our fans are set up for giving players time ! Guys have a player judged after a few games, turn on him and aren't for turning back.. Because they're always right don't you know :-)
In truth half the guy's giving out about us missing out on the likes of Michu and Sissoko are the exact same guy's who would turn on them after a bad game and label Rodger's a disgrace for lowering the standards and ambitions of the club with cheap players and FSG would be slated for not splashing the cash !
do people remember roque santa cruz?went to blackburn for £4 million the summer we bought torres, scored 19 premier league goals. went to city for about £18 million and flopped
ReplyDeleteJohn Henry and FSG are too stingy about investment great players. Development and investment must be always in balancing.Current players now still not too strong because quality of players.Downing, Sterling,Suso,Borini,Sturridge,Lucas,Joe Allen and Henderson is just ordinary players, stiil cannot keep scoring many goal. They are lack about goal finishing.Martin Skrtel,Jose Enricque and Glenn Johnson some time too weak and fragile leaking the goal.In the bench only Oussama Assaidi and Sebastian Coates having good potential to be star on the making, but never been used by B.Rodgers.I don't know why he very dislike to involve this two players in many games. He like to give chance only unconsistency players to keep playing. This is why LFC cannot maintain consistancy and struggle game by game. Second team and subtitudes players never too good and can trusting. This season LFC are lucky because Luis Suarez never get injured and banned for long times.
