Bravo: Mario Balotelli blasts S*n journalist (Video)

Liverpool face Manchester City in the Premier League this afternoon, and one noticeable will be Mario Balotelli, who left for Serie A giants AC Milan earlier this week. The volatile Italian became a regular whipping boy for the likes of Alan Hansen, Mark Lawrenson and Graeme Souness, who regularly criticised him in their respective columns, but in his first press conference as a Milan player, Balotelli instantly endeared himself to millions of Liverpool FC fans across the globe.

During a press conference on Friday, a journalist from the s*n tried to ask Balotelli a question, but the £19m star wasn't having any of it, and refused to answer. He said:

"Listen, your newspaper, from when I get to England, always talked bad about me, so I don’t want to speak with you".

Nice one :-)

Balotelli also took a parting shot at English culture:

"Good things? Only when I get to Carrington to train, so my team-mates and manager. Bad things? Everything else - press, weather, food, the way you drive."

Re the bad things, is he wrong? I'm a Brit, and I agree: the weather is frickin' atrocious most of the time; England is hardly renowned for its haute cuisine (Liver and Onions, anyone?) and being a motorcyclist, I've been on the receiving end of crap driving countless times over the years. Of course, the press will twist Balotelli's words in order to mount another attack on the player, but that's the UK tabloids for you.

Balotelli is a real character, and he'll be missed in the Premier League (IMO)

  1. I agree. Although he did show signs of a bad apple he was exciting lol!

  2. PS you optimistic about today Jamie?

  3. Sadly, not. City are ten points behind Man United so it's an absolute must-win game for them. Lose, and they're effectively out of the Premier League race, so they'll be right up for the game.

On the other hand, they're missing Kompany and Toure, so that should help, but, inevitably, our suspect defence will let the side down at some point.

A draw would be a good result.

  4. Hmm I feel the same way to be honest. Our defense is not just reliable enough. Why we did not sign a defender is beyond me once again.

A draw would be good I agree.

Ps that Sissoko huh? Another could have been for us.

  5. I just can't understand why we weren't in for him. Exactly the type of player LFC need, and for £1.5M? Ridiculous. I'd have him over Joe Allen at the moment, that's for sure.

  6. I agree to an extent about Sissoko...But it's been one game! lol Never know how the rest of the season will pan out for him and besides, Joe Allen looked excellent in his first few games for us although his last seven or eight have left a lot to be desired.

  7. Yeah, man, we really needed a guy like that... Big, strong presence in the midfield...

Its not the end of the world if you are tiny but you should be witty and sharp... Too often our midfield is run over... And i say this again: Lucas is not back yet... He was transparent vs Arsenal and we could not push them back... They basically trampled over us...

  8. He was good, he was bad. He was just Mario Balotelli being Mario Balotelli. He didn't commit any heinous crimes imo but was a character. Sometimes the political correctness brigade can over react.
Will he be missed? By the tabloid press I fear, as they love to talk about the 'bad' men, conjuring up extreme headlines in the process.
Makes no odds to me tbh whether he's here or not.

Must say I am very nervous about today. With results going the way they did yesterday, Chelsea loss, Everton draw, Arsenal win; then the 3 points available today become very important for us to keep in touch with Arsenal; and in turn get closer to those above who dropped points.

  11. Potential for world's best player. And worst football disaster. Crazy, but not truly bad. Needs momentum, and he found it in the club he supports- REALLY. Now up to teammates and coach.

  12. Super Mario!!!
The British media treated him like crap. I think it's was because they couldn't figure him out, A young, confident ,iconoclastic black Italian player who was doing a lot of growing up in a new country and because they didn't think that his ability is not worth all the hype, they put him into a joke figure box.
A big example of how media controls what they want you to see was on last nights match of the day when they made a brief footnote to the Michael Owen "Punch" and then brushed it of like it wasn't worthy of been mentioned in the first place.

  13. By the way, if tactics and execution get on our top level in Manchester today, we can score more than we will concede against this City. Results 0-1 included.
No, not delude. Though it rhymes perfectly, rightnoquestionmark.

  14. A lot depends on who the ref for the game is.  It it's one of the many Suarez haters we could be screwed before we start.

  15. I agree with MB about the weather and food but I have driven around Rome and they are even worse drivers there than in the UK, as a pedestrian cross the road at your own peril

  16. He said that to the Sun, therefore it is a good thing and other players should follow the good example he has set. :) Balotelli is an easy target to pick on due to his impulsive behaviour which sometimes reminds me of people with bi-polar disorders. I'm not saying he's bi-polar or anything like that though, because his penalty taking record speaks for itself and suggests he is cool under pressure but it's safe to say he is definitely very eccentric.

  17. Let's be fair, he was living in mankychester, the worst sh*thole in the British Isles.

  18. He might be right with the weather, but driving? No Chance, coming from an Italian! Also comments about food is totally wrong, as you can find good food from every country in the world in England, (especially in London)...people seem to forget how blessed we are with that!

  19. The guy has gone up in my estimation, i honestly wouldnt wipe my ar*e with that paper

  20. Good on him for standing up against journalists or even an entire paper that he thinks is bad, but he still is someone who should pay a lot of attention to his own development and character.

  21. Great to see you back, orme.

  22. Well done him f***ing off the Sun journalist off. But hey whilst there can be no arguments about the weather here, we certainly drive a hell of a lot better than the Italians (first hand experience). And what have liver and onions ever done to you... AS GOOD AS ANY ITALIAN RAGU. Sometimes Jamie you just love to complain for the sake of it

  23. He'll definitely be missed, He was a handful but he was also fun to watch. From his nonchalant attitude to his crazy remarks. For example, when he commented on Ibra's goal against England  "I do that in training when am bored" and when he was asked why he doesn't always celebrate his goals; "Its my job. Does your postman celebrate when he delivers mail?".

  24. Haha. Those comments are class :-)

  25. Lay off the bad press on Liver and Onions !!

  26. I'll miss him.

A good player, an interesting character and someone who I had a lot of sympathy for.

As much as people like to paint him as an overpaid prima donna, there was a lot of reasons why he would act out and if people would have given him a chance other than waiting with baited breath for his latest fuck-up (which was never really as bad as people would make out) he would have had a better chance of maturing.

I really hope he goes to Milan and becomes the player he can be and proves all the doubters wrong.

  27. In defence of Brits (but not the S*n which stinks!) we have some of the finest chefs in the world (when was the last time you actually ate liver and onions for goodness sake!) and 40% of all the top chefs in Paris did their training in London. The weather is the weather, nobody can take credit or blame for it so it is hardly a cultural issue. As for bad driving, two things here: have you drivin in Europe and other parts of the world? If you think it's bad here you have never driven in Italy! It is horrendous there. Secondly, being a biker yourself should I hope allow you to recognise (if you're really honest) that bikers are hardly bastions of good motoring skills. They weave in and out, zip past traffic on the opposite side of the road and just assume cars will move over for them, break the speed limit more than any other road user and show a lack of concern for other drivers. And I am speaking as a biker of MANY years standing so this is not a diatribe aginst them!

Balotelli is a good footballer, no question. But he is also a mouthy, aggressive and rude individual who shows no respect for anyone else. I will NOT miss his histrionics in the EPL, the guy is a bad apple and any defence of his behaviour is frankly shameful.

  28. I agree especially since the club had been linked with him several times over the years.

  29. Liver and onions is great stuff as long as you don't overcook it.
