Chelsea winger Marko Marin has made only nine appearances for the blues since signing in at Stamford Bridge last summer, and with his place in the national team under threat, the winger is actively seeking a loan move until the end of the season. Could Liverpool be a potential destination...?
Speaking to reporters yesterday, Fali Ramadani - Marin's Agent - confirmed that the 23-year old is prepared to go on loan. He said:
"Marin has...offers until the end of the season.
"Marko wants more playing time but we understand that at a major club like Chelsea there will always be serious competition for places.
"In order to play regularly for the German national team, he needs to be a first-teamer"
Liverpool tried to sign Marin - who cost Chelsea £7m - a couple of times during Kenny Dalglish's reign. In 2011, when asked about the club's interest, Marin said:
"Yes, I am aware of it [Liverpool's interest]. However I am just keeping my focus on Werder Bremen"
Dalglish went in for Marin again during the January 2012 transfer window, but the German international decided to stay with Werder Bremen until the end of that season.
Liverpool are pursuing Brazilian playmaker Coutinho at the moment, but it looks like that deal is a non-starter. Speaking to Sky Sports Italia yesterday, Coutinho said:
"The Liverpool offer? I'm happy with these offers, because it means I am doing my job well. But I think Inter have faith in me and I want to show my value here. I don't feel that I'm on my way out. I hope to stay at Inter"
If that deal goes south, Marin could be a viable back-up option.
* He'd almost certainly get more playing time at Anfield than at Chelsea.
* Rafa Benitez's connection to LFC could smooth the way for a deal.
* He has lots of experience, and would provide good competition for Sterling et al.
Worth a look?

I feel like if Chelsea had the choice, and with Marin I imagine they would, they would rather sell him to someone else. Rafa is quite politically smart too, and wouldn't want to be seen helping Liverpool.
ReplyDeleteI think Marin will end up either going back to Germany, or going to a big team in a less prestigious league (like Sneijder has).
Let's say we move for him. Doubt Rafa would allow the move. He might love us, but he is still a professional! What if Marin comes over and helps us beat them to a top four place? ;P
ReplyDeletechelsea wont finish forth will they, 1 manure 2 city 3 chelsea 4 liverpool
ReplyDeleteCountinho deal looks complicated, he told lucas that's he wants to come, but inter are deciding if they should sell him to raise funds so they can sign pauldinho.
ReplyDeleteLoan deals for player from rival clubs should only be made, if we can insert a viable buying clause into the deal. Otherwise I don't see the point. It's not as if we are Chelsea's farm team. Marin is just another player who's made a silly move that has done his career more harm than good. It might be different for his bank-account, though.
ReplyDeleteI know Liverpool is a little light for talent in certain areas but Marin is not the answer over rated and will not handle physicality of EPL.
ReplyDeleteWe should be happy he never came to Anfield dodged a big bullet,.
If no 'lesser' Prem team takes him on loan, my money would be on a move back to Germany.
ReplyDeleteno no no a player who turned us down not a chance why should we help him now if we do not sign any players we will not have a chance of champions league so we might as well give our own players a chance its worked wonders for hendo and downing
ReplyDeletelike that optimism. brilliant
ReplyDeleteMedia circus bull. He has stated that he wants to stay. Why would he say to Lucas otherwise? Glad we dodged WS though. He shows no ambition playing with the heavyweights. I guess he realizes his limitations.
ReplyDeleteF him, turned us down for Chelsea. Made his bed now he can lie in it. Have fun on loan at Schalke or something.
ReplyDeleteThink about it this way. If you where a promising young footballer for a big club and you declared that you wanted a move and criticised your current team for lack of opportunities, then somehow a deal never happened and you stayed at that club. Do you not think the fans would turn on you? I would keep quiet till a trasnfer actually happened. Plus I heard Ian ayre flew out to Italy but might be BS
ReplyDeletehe could also be going on holiday maybe!!
ReplyDeleteFurthermore, I don't see why we would sacrifice the opportunities of our own fringe players for Chelsea's benefit.
ReplyDeleteWhen did Everton bid for him?
ReplyDeleteOr Wigan.
ReplyDeleteit wouldn't be Rafa's decision ultimately. Plus no issue over Sturridge
ReplyDeletein the middle of a transfer window!!!!!!!! Even Ayre isn't that stupid
ReplyDeletei was joking
ReplyDeletelol there you go again with that wit of yours i,ve told you before your wasted on here
ReplyDeleteI would not mind him but I would prefer a permanent deal. I don't think the Coutinho transfer is going to happen now. Sad times!
ReplyDeletemaybe ian aye is on holiday maybe he knows theres no more transfers comming in
ReplyDeleteYou honestly need to relax.
ReplyDeleteYeah don't forget they left the office early w.r.t dempsey saga...
ReplyDeletei know lol its just like mr ayre the busyest times of the year and he wants an holiday or needs to be home early
ReplyDeleteerrr no you haven't, and i am not trying to be funny.......
ReplyDeleteMe thinks Eastern Europe beckons for him, especially if he signed for Chelsea for considerable wages as some clubs over there have some serious backing. Quite a few clubs over there seem to be partial to the small wide attacking midfielder/winger, with the likes of McGeady, Tosic, Costa, Willian, etc. Had no sympathy for SWP when he went to Chelsea, when it was obvious he would be a bench warmer, and have none for this chap either. Enjoy anonymity.
ReplyDeleteEven if they aren't from rival clubs, we should not take a player on loan without a buying clause.
ReplyDeleteOtherwise we run the risk of having another Sahin situation on our hands.
Footballers always say they want to stay. Imagine if the deal falls through, he'd be even more out of favour and probably get a load of stick from the fans. Why would Lucas say otherwise?!
ReplyDeleteTrue that.
ReplyDeletei have i told you ,you should be on the stage with your comical genius ,and your right your not funny
ReplyDeleteReports that he rode his motorcycle to Italy have yet to be confirmed (nor denied)
ReplyDeletei hopehe getsa puncture
ReplyDeleteaccording to my source he was spotted this lunchtime eatin a pizza in lincoln!!! hmmm not the trendiest of places to be spotted
ReplyDeleteI somehow feel that the whole BR and Liverpool philosophy of building for the future with youg players where it will materialise after 3-4 years is good for a team with limited aspirations. However this is LFC, the correct direct philosophy would have been to get many experienced players as possible, put the pressure on other teams, and qualify for 4th place. Then and only then can one become strategic in acquiring allsorts of players as funding will become more available. I think this is a better philosophy the the BR and FSG one
