Dream signing? LFC in talks with €11m superstar Mourinho called 'unique'

With Nuri Sahin and Joe Cole no longer at Anfield, there are a couple of midfield vacancies in the squad, and I'm sure most Liverpool fans will be hoping that the Reds can replace those two with at least one top quality player, and who better than Inter Milan star Wesley Sneijder?

Liverpool have been linked the Dutch maestro several times over the last month, with the the Daily Mail claiming that the Reds made a £9.5m (€11m) bid in December.

Now, according to reports in Holland today, the potential deal is progressing, and Sneijder is actively in talks with the the club over a possible January move.

With a huge chunk of salary cash freed up from the departures of Sahin and Cole, you'd think that Liverpool would be able to afford Sneijder's wages, and if Inter are willing to let him leave for €11m, which is a fantastic price for such a talented, experienced player, then it's surely a deal worth considering?

The Dutch international - hailed as 'unique' by Jose Mourinho - is definitely on his way out Inter, and Nerazzuri boss Andrea Stramaccioni confirmed this last night. He told reporters:

"We're working on a replacement for Wes. It's not easy to find someone as good as him. Teams that do have someone like that, tend to keep hold of them".

According to Soren Lerby, Sneijder's Agent, a potential move to Galatasary is a non-starter, as he confirmed yesterday:

"That's impossible. We didn't even talk with Gala, so there couldn't be an agreement. Anything is possible. Over the next few weeks we will consider every offer that comes our way".

Another report in Italy today claims that Sneijder is not interested in Galatasaray because he's waiting for Liverpool to move in and make an offer.

I personally would welcome the Dutchman with open arms. Sneijder is precisely the lind of experienced signing Liverpool need, and it would send a massive signal of intent if FSG sanctioned a move for the player.

It's a no-brainer:

* Only 28 years old, and in the prime of his career.
* Peerless experience on the domestic and international stage.
* Technically superb - a skilful, creative and exciting player.
* Would bring something different to the Liverpool team.
* Arguably superior to all of LFC's current midfielders, bar Gerrard.

Possible formations with Sneijder in the team:

------------------ Lucas

--------- Sneijder ---- Gerrard

Suarez --------------------------- Sterling

--------------- Sturridge

OR:

------------------ Allen

--------- Sneijder ---- Gerrard

Sturridge ------------------------ Sterling

--------------- Suarez

Alas, FSG will probably persist with their ridiculous and counter-productive 'youth only' policy, an approach that is beginning to irritate Gerrard, who told The Guardian today:

"I disagree with the [youth] policy to be honest. I've seen many signings throughout the world who have gone to clubs at the age of 28, 29 or even older and done fantastic jobs. I don't agree 100% that that should be the only way. I think you've got to add experience to young gifted players as well because in this league and at this level you need experience"

Gerrard is absolutely spot-on; Liverpool will go nowhere with a team stuffed with young players. Throughout history, the club has always had a good mix of young and old(er) players, but right now, the balance of the squad is all wrong, and FSG persist with this policy, the club will continue to miss out on top players.

One final note: if Louis Van Gaal had got the Liverpool job over Rodgers, do you really think he would accept this narrow-minded approach from FSG? Would he hell. He would demand to sign whoever he wanted, and that's the power that comes with having sustained success in the game, and massive worldwide respect and esteem.

Rodgers is at a serious disadvantage here; he doesn't have the status or the authority to challenge FSG, and that in turn has a knock-on effect on the club.

  1. Totally agree. Thought he was exceptional at Ajax. Some great goals scored from outside of the box too.

  2. how about his injury record?

    ReplyDelete
  3. Would love it if he did come to us!

  4. I seem to remember a certain pundit saying that you can't win with kids. what's that running down his face? As much as I hate to say it, but I do believe it's egg. An I also believe you are deliberately misinterpreting what Gerrard actually said.

    ReplyDelete
  5. I can not for the life of me see this happening.

He would certainly improve the side and if a player of his quality is available to a club like ours then we should at least try and work something out.

The problem with Sneijder is that he always seems to go off the boil after every couple of seasons.

This seems, for a number of reasons, more likely to be a failure (like a mitigated one) than a success, but if we are willing to spend £35mil on what Carroll could do and roughly half that on what Henderson could do, then surely it is worth paying less than either for what we know Sneijder is capable of doing.

    ReplyDelete
  6. How exactly am I misinterpreting what he said? His quotes are clear: 'I disagree with the policy'. What does that mean, exactly?

You're right about Hansen, but how many times in history the Man U thing happened? It's the exception not the rule. Plus, you need a world class manager in place, and LFC don't have that right now (though BR could conceivably grow into that some day)

  7. There is no doubting Sneijder's quality, but two big stumbling blocks would be his injury record and his salary. Man.UTD could take a risk on RVP because he's mostly fit. Sneijder is different in that regard and you cannot have an injured player earning a high salary. It's one of the reasons why it did not work out for Joe Cole and it absolutely does not fit with FSG's policy.

Regarding Gerrard's comments, I agree. You need a mixture of both. I have a feeling that his comments were made because he wants 31 year old Xabi Alonso back. Given how relatively slow and accurate Alonso plays, his playing career is likely to be extended compared with other players and bringing him back can have a very positive effect on the team.

  8. sneijder would be a fantastic signing, cannot see it happening thou, also jaimie, this is why fsg hired rodgers because like you say he his a yes man for them, also on aanother subject kenny to become an ambassoder, for the club again if he dose it seems to blow away your theory that they got rid of him because they were embarresed by him in the suarez inncident ,personally i hope king kenny tells them to go f"ck s"it

    ReplyDelete
  9. Signing that makes perfect sense....Champions League quality not a Championship quality like Tom Ince!

    ReplyDelete
  10. Do we really need another midfielder??? We have seen rodgers use 433 alot until we end up losing and occassionally changes to 352 .. but 3 man midfield ( allen.. lucas ... gerrard) then we have hendo, jonjo, suso and alot more youth coming up ... you can see from the stats LFC are creating enough chances but just not clinical enough .. can see sturridge bagging a few goals but for me we are bossing round the midfield brilliantly as we are

    ReplyDelete
  11. His role as an ambassador doesn't require him to talk to the press about team affairs, so it's not an issue. Plus, time has passed, and Dalglish still retains his status as a club legend, and always will, so it's a good idea to bring him back.

  12. soo what u are actually saying here is that BrenDoom is a Puppet and FSG are the Puppet Masters ....what i cannot understand is WHY DID WE SIGN A SCOUTING TEAM FROM MAN CITY EARLIER THIS YEAR if we were going to sign Sturrige and INCE ...I meen WTF ,,,,any Pool support could have said sign Sturrige ,,,why are these guys not finding the " Hidden gems " whats the point of having them if we only going to sign English Lads from Liverpool as BrenDOM is talking about .....PUPPET ..........

    ReplyDelete
  13. You wonder if this is why Cole and Sahin were moved on?, this could very well happen. We play his type of football and it is a big challenge too, why not?

  14. Hey mate. What happened to your Disqus account? If you're having any problems signing in etc, let me know.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Sneijder haven’t played more than 25 league games neither scored more 4 league goals since 07/08.Very overrated !

    ReplyDelete
  16. but why would you want to employ someone who embarresed you ,i hope kenny tells them to go do one, sadly i dont think he will because of his love for the club, also if allen starts tomorrow ive done my money in because he his to lightweight for these kind of matches

    ReplyDelete
  17. Probably explains why he's apparently so cheap. Still, hes only 28; he's in the prime of his career.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Hey Jason as MUCH as I would love that as well ..I think that Liverpool need the King again as FSG may have realised that " their Puppet " BrenDOOm cannot even convince players that played for him to come to Liverpool let alone STAR players ..BUT players will come for King Kenny becuase of his passion and history .... The current Liverpool team iis not as BAD as BrenDOOM makes out to be ( as hes only trying to buy time ) BUT we need a TOP NOTCH COACH ...example look at Man U ...ave players very good coach and they on the TOP again ....IF Hendry really wants to make money from POOL the only way is to get us back to the top again very fast , Spend the Money on someone like " The Special one " and give him money for a project and see how players come and how we shoot up the league .....As the adhage goes you gotta spend money to make money ...

    ReplyDelete
  19. We could do with Dalglish to give the club some heart. Loads of people (inside the game) have commented on how Liverpool of today are soulless. I read the other day an article from that player Watt (the Celtic lad, scored against Barca) and he commented on it being a decisive factor in moving to Celtic (not that we moved for him, but I think we left him a little cold). It is the difference between when United and Real both wanted to sign Varane and United just paid lip service to hospitality whereas Real got Zidane to give the lad a tour of the stadium. It proved decisive.

    ReplyDelete
  20. sorry m8 the reason it did not work out for joe cole is because he did not give a s"it,i still cannot believe we signed him n the first place he had a half decent game for chelsea once a season another over hyped english player by the press

    ReplyDelete
  23. agree m8 rodgers tells every one how bad the squad his ,buys his own players then uses last years players more than his own,hes a smooth talker but even the yanks will see though him eventually

    ReplyDelete
  24. if your refering to what rodgers said earlier this week he meant we can't miss out on the young and talented up-coming kids in the local area to rivals not we should scout and sign only players from the liverpool area try to understand thing whilst your reading them instead of jumping the gun

    ReplyDelete
  25. Just pay the damn 11 million €
    No brainer really!
Consider this: we paid 35 million on CARROLL! And now we are having troubles paying a third of that on a player who IMO deserved the FIFA 2010 ballon d'or
What a tough decision to make!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  26. just hope that the club give him backing and allow him to develop and grow into a great coach at liverpool would hate to see him get the boot and achieve that else where

  29. I wonder if the media is going to skin Mata alive for a pathetic dive vs Stoke to win a penalty? Obviously not but if it was Luis Suarez then you could bet your bottom dollar that all his haters will scream cheat...

    ReplyDelete
  30. Very spot on.
    35 million on Carroll
    20 million on downing
    20 million on Henderson
Based on the above facts, we are blessed to pay 11 on Wesley :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. Before last season (which was his most injury free season since he signed for Arsenal; yet he still suffered and ankle injury and groin strain) RVP was mostly on the treatment table during his Arsenal career...

    ReplyDelete
  32. seriously you think that dalglish has ability to pull players in have you had your head in your arse over the last 2 years when he was manager what great player did he convince to come in the suarez deal was already on the cards before kenny had arrived if you think andy carrol and the rest of the mega money flops are top quailty then you are even more deranged than you make out to be and you give man u as an example do you not remember how they got to where they are it wasn't signing top manager they got someone in relatively inexperienced and almost gave him the sack but he worked hard and made his name so stop spouting rubbish

He just copied the first paragraph of your this article.

    ReplyDelete
  39. A 50% Sneidjer is 100% better then anyone else in our midfield (barring Gerrard) so if the deal can be done then GET HIM!

This is a deal that we should not even have to think about he is pure quality, and while were at it we should try snag Lampard and Cole on freebies, so what if there over 30, FSG sort your lame transfer policy out

    ReplyDelete
  40. Why you been standing on plastic? is it a hobby? lol

    ReplyDelete
  41. He is a cheat. As is anyone who dives.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Anyone who knows where that line comes from will win my eternal respect ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  43. So that's pretty much 99% of the premier league then..

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  45. Lethal Weapon 2 if were been precise lol

    ReplyDelete
  46. I will second that :)

    ReplyDelete
  47. WTF!!!!!!!!!!!! the king more like queen kenny he was worst manager ever wasted a lot of money and doesnt knw what he's doing we should ban him from anfield for life!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Sneijder is set to move to Galatasaray... The deal is almost over..personal terms have been agreed it seems..

    ReplyDelete
  49. iam just saying jaimie has said many times that it was the main reason he lost his job ,so it just debunks that myth so if it was result based rodgers is going to after perform miricles over the second half of the season

    ReplyDelete
  50. unlike you who has done so much for the club ,were would we be without you,i shudder to think

    ReplyDelete
  51. Likewise. I never left actually, I read almost everything about Liverpool online and newspapers. :)

    ReplyDelete
  52. if hes 100% percent fit and motivated then yes.....otherwise no......we have to learn from history not to sign injured players ...carroll , sahin and cole where all being hailed as the dawn of a new era when signed but failed...also his wages may put other players noses out of joint particularly if he doesn't perform...i happen to think its the defense and up front we need to throw money at as thats where we are weakest squad wise...im gonna throw something out there,,,,,im not sure the tempo of the prem would suit Ws profile...we need a big F*cker TO ADD TO OUR MIDFIELD

    ReplyDelete
  53. Looks like we are about to sign James Milner on loan from City

    ReplyDelete
  54. nonsense jobsy .....its inches which seperates these guys ....a 90% Snider would be chewed up in the prem....you dont have time when a guy like diame is on top of you.....

    ReplyDelete
  55. wish i could say the same LOL

    ReplyDelete
  56. Out of interest Jaimie have you heard the quotes from sahin that the loan to us was worth it simply as it allowed him to play with gerrard (though not often enough for his liking)? Kind of refutes the allegations the German sports rag made that gerrard was jealous of sahin which meant he couldn't play where he wanted, you agreed with this despite me and most others pointing out the lack of evidence

    ReplyDelete
  57. dont be bitter theres worse lol ;-) backed gerrard 1st goalscorer tomorrow 9/1 got to be worth £10

    ReplyDelete
  58. The only problem is your above facts aren`t correct. Henderson was 16mil not 20mil. The point you were making though I agree with

    ReplyDelete
  59. i have read that article many times and completely understand what he ment ....by the way note that we have many young local players soo he did not have to stress that ...U must also read between the lines as far as BrenDOM is concerned ..." he speaks wit Forked tongue " to quote and old red indian saying ....

    ReplyDelete
  60. It`s a no for me, I think he is overrated, and also spends as much time injured as kelly does. He could easy be another Joe Cole.

    ReplyDelete
  61. That before or after he has made him look a fool??

    ReplyDelete
  62. geuss u must be 23 or less then mate cuz King Kenny was the last manager to win the league and he did that whilst have to cope with the Hillsbourogh disaster ...in fact he want to every funeral ...show some RESPECT for a Liverpool Great ...we are not ManUre ....

    ReplyDelete
  63. Anyone who calls king kenny a queen is a total nob

    ReplyDelete
  64. is liverpool in talk with inter or not? this is the question and this is what we liverpool fans want to know! your artcle's title is completely different to what you are saying in the article.. and i have niticed this in many if your articles. what you wrote something that we ave been reading on so many other website since the begining of january. we are fed up with rumours. if you cant provide us with what we wnat (yes or no is liverpool in talks with inter), then please dont try mislead us with your fake titles..

    ReplyDelete
  65. last i remember SAUREZ came in ON his watch ...How many GREAT signing did Buck Rogers do ...Sahin gone ...Boring waste ...Assidi Talented but not used ( me thinks some1 else must have had a deal for him not Buck ...KK maybe ) Allen A WASTE of 15 mill as we have Hendo who is miles better ...So whats soo great about HIM .....Besides his way with words ...

    ReplyDelete
  66. Jaimie u saying i should not critisise him then ....taught this was a place to discuss Liverpool and those who run and manage it ...besides if you read your last few articles u will notice how critical of him U have been ...starting to see the light ....

    ReplyDelete
  67. Behave, Sneijder would make Diame look a complete fool lol

    ReplyDelete
  68. Much as i,d love to see sneijder at anfield i just cant see it happening, his wages would be prohibitive for starters & at his age the guy will probably want CL football, iam sure he,ll have other offers coming his way, i agree that BR is almost thankful to just have the job & does not have the authority or prestige to push for a signing like this. Heres hopin howard webb doesnt di his usual sycophantic, man u loving performance tomorrow, a lot of good results in prem today so hopin for a win :) come on!!

    ReplyDelete
  69. Read fergies comments about sturridge signing sayin BR clearly knows what he is doing, yet another veiled dig from the purple nosed one, would love it if danny can bang one or two in tomorrow

    ReplyDelete
  70. What are you on about? You can criticise Rodgers all you like, just please stop calling him 'BrenDOOM'.

    ReplyDelete
  71. i agree for his wages i want someone who can score a goal from nothing and do it regular.........dont laugh but he reminds me of a better version of allen

    ReplyDelete
  72. Where did u hear that m8?

    ReplyDelete
  73. We have a policy of buying first and foremost british players, unfortunately, I think it's FSG that want that after they spoke to the fans at the beginning when they came in 'because L'pool wasn't british enough' so there we go Sturrige and (maybe, if swansea won't buy him first)Ince , so Sneijder don't think so, but if by any chance we would get him at least Gerrard could be on the bench once in a while but wait BrenDOOM wouldn't do that wouldn't he?!

    ReplyDelete
  74. do you think so? if hes that good why is no one seemingly interested.....the prem has seen off many so called worldbeaters think veron

    ReplyDelete
  75. He is a quality player. i think he refused to join us in the alonso deal, when i think he was maybe a better player. I feel its best if we don't sign him, even manure have lost interest in him!

    ReplyDelete
  76. You really believe we are the only club looking? you can be sure there will be plenty of clubs looking at him

    ReplyDelete
  77. its an interesting soundbite no more no less......FSG are trying to drop wages not increase them....and i agree the thought of this guy getting 200g a week no matter how good he is ...is vulgar...especially considering the economy in merseyside

    ReplyDelete
  78. welcome back mr vyas.

    ReplyDelete
  79. off topic .whenever a team beats liverpool they go into freefall

    ReplyDelete
  80. Fergie had plenty of success with aberdeen, even won a european trophy with them if i remember rightly

    ReplyDelete
  81. agree, I was saddened reading the Watt article, young lads need to be inspired when they come to visit melwood. They would warm to KK talking about the club and its history with the odd anecdote thrown in;-)

    ReplyDelete
  82. You've hit the nail on the head.....he loves he club to much!

    ReplyDelete
  83. Pieter Vorstedt- Lethal Weapon

    ReplyDelete
  84. LOL people are so creative haha!

    ReplyDelete
  85. Sneidjer is willing to take a cut in wages to come play in the PL. !!!

    ReplyDelete
  86. Yep, that's it :-) That line cracks me up for some reason. Just the way he says it.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Why did Huth put his hand on his shoulder? Huth was asking for it

    ReplyDelete
  88. thats life m8 i would rather he get the money than some dirty mp

    ReplyDelete
  89. We are preparing for an eventuality where the homegrown quota is increased, in my opinion

    ReplyDelete
  90. It is doubtful but would be one of our greatest signings ever.

    He is pure class.

But Man Utd would defo gazump us, or Citeh etc

    ReplyDelete
  91. IF this were to happen in this window, then FSG would have gone a long way in restoring a little faith amongst some fans. It COULD happen and then the player fails to perform. It then becomes another failed deal for Liverpool. But surely the statement made by FSG in completing the deal, would mean they are showing a little intent towards an honest search for success as their main priority and not just building a cheap as possible, talented, but, youthful team now; in the hope of the possible financial return tomorrow....

    ReplyDelete
  92. WS is exactly the player we need and agree with all of Jamie's points above "thats a first!" BR needs to be his own man against FSG and have Ian ayre as a great advocate considering he runs the club! Def Lucas in front of back 4. His wages will be high but then we dont exactly shy away from this side of our business dealings so long as the bid is no more than 10m then he's a steal tbh.
He would stand out with Suarez as our most gifted player. we need more outright match winners...

    ReplyDelete
  93. 99% if the Premier League doesn't dive. Just Suarez.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Cool your jets Suarez-lovers! Just kidding :-)

    ReplyDelete
  95. Yep, that's it :-) That line cracks me up for some reason. Just the way he says it.

    ReplyDelete
  96. ooooo you nearly started a war!!

    ReplyDelete
  97. He's cheap because no one can afford his wages

    ReplyDelete
  98. Unfortunately I don't think that will be the case due to the heroics of Jonathan Walters this afternoon at the Britannia! He surely will claim all the headlines:-)

    ReplyDelete
  99. When you have a goal-machine , earlier in Ibra and then with Eto'o followed by millito, you don't need to bag much goals from midfield . You just expect the midfielders to be creative in which he excelled

    ReplyDelete
  100. Need this win im sick of the mancs i work with.....with a bit of luck it will come off suarez hand and hell kiss his palm in front of the strettford end

    ReplyDelete
  101. i fancy sturridge to score if he starts ...utd keep a high line so a ball over the top may put him in

    ReplyDelete
  102. hes going to galastray and the deals been done for a while...this article is just a bit of fun as far as im concerned

    ReplyDelete
  103. ask why are inter so keen to get shut...this guy is finished and like torres hasn't produced for 3 years .....his time has been and gone...it would be a monumental mistake to give this guy 100g a week let alone 200g thats why only the footballers graveyard clubs in turkey are after him.....i dont want him i hate greedy tw*ts like him who think there sH*T doesnt stink

    ReplyDelete
  104. fsg ARE NOT CHEAP THEY ARE NAIVE ...they have spent over 100m on players ....crap players but players all the same

    ReplyDelete
  105. So this place is now just rehashing stuff from Goal.com?

Based on a made-up article with zero quotes.

    Therefore complete and utter rubbish

    ReplyDelete
  106. The deal isn't done till it's done. Galatasaray stated on their website this morning that negotiations are 'ongoing'. That doesn't mean done.

    ReplyDelete
  107. No, you just can't read or comprehend things properly. The title is:

Dream signing? LFC in talks with 11m superstar Mourino hailed as 'unique'.

If you actually read the article properly, you would see:

    * I state that Sneijder is in talks with LFC (and the source is linked)
    * Sneijder is rated at 11m (2 sources are linked for that figure)
    * Mourinho did indeed call Sneijder 'unique'. Again, this is linked.

The 'dream signing' part is a *question*, i.e. I am saying 'would sneijder be a dream signing?. This is amazingly obvious.

The title is not misleading in the slightest, and if you post anything else deliberately misrepresenting what I write, you will be banned.

    ReplyDelete
  108. with a bit of luck he will score a blinder and run up to whisky nose and give him the bird lol we can dream

    ReplyDelete
  109. Please do not belittle Dalglish in future by calling him 'Queen Kenny'. Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Good article and I agree with everything. Re the rererence to Van Gaal, I think the same applies elsewhere. Liverpool claim Martinez was never offered the job. Martinez says he was, and everyone in the game says he's honest. I believe the club are playing semantics. I suspect he was flown out to America and the plans about moving forward through youth were outlined to him. Asked if he'd take the job in those circumstances, I suspect he said not. Liverpool can (correctly) claim he was never offered it, because an actual offer was not made. I susoect Martinez was not prepared to be the yes man that Rodgers is increasingly looking like. For him to say recently that he was pleased with the support of the owners, after the Dempsey fiasco, was very weak indeed. I can't see a Sneidjer signing because I can't see Rodgers rocking the boat by pressing for it

    ReplyDelete
  111. dont think sneijder will bother coming to the prem if he thinks hes going to have guys on top of him saying that its gotter be better than turkey

    ReplyDelete
  112. would be a great signing, good for the younger players to learn from to.

    ReplyDelete
  113. i,am a better version of allen lol

    ReplyDelete
  114. yes of course there are problems between him and Inter but that doesnt necessarily mean it will follow with us. He is worth the risk so long as the budget is considered, 100k is max. His age is prime and what a place LFC would be to show the premier league and the rest of euro what this guy is soo obviously capable of, his footbal is top class.

I hate that we lack real quality and seem to be shopping in the bargain bin! The last regime of KD n Comolli put pay to that with 85m plus extras wasted on you know who...

    ReplyDelete
  115. Hope your right kidda :)

    ReplyDelete
  116. and they have recouped a fair old bit back too my friend, so their initial outlay is not really the figure you qoute. ps, no need to shout mate,

    ReplyDelete
  117. rodgers yes man yes yes yes ,but you cannot blame him fsg have played a blinder and if and when it gos tits up they will blame the fool that they hired

    ReplyDelete
  118. jaimie are the moderaters on rag week been stopped loads today

    ReplyDelete
  119. I suppose what I'm saying is, as I've said many times before, that I buy into the whole BR ideal and MOST of FSG's plan. But if the plan's direction is purely developing young talent in the hope it becomes a title winning team with the correct management, then although I'm optimistic of that anyway, it will no doubt take quite a bit of time. The age and experience of our youthful protidges, if all goes to plan, could maybe make a push in 3, 4 years time? Whereas I believe if two signings were made, (not necessarily this window, but definitely in the summer) of real quality players in their prime, then that would be enough with what we have to at least be genuine contenders in that top four again soon. If the owners cannot back two top players by summer, then what does that state apart from a desire for pure financial reasons. That transfer money that is touted of them already having spent and therefore not tight, would seem peanuts next to their net gain. Possible?

Sneijder will do very well for us if he is signed. He only really hit the summit with Mourinho nursing his ego at Inter. BR will do that and make him cry again. The only problem is will Gerrard want another player to take his throne in the team? Could be another Sahin...

  121. Would be an outstanding addition to the squad. Totally agree that we can't solely concentrate on just young, up and coming players. United have shown this season what difference a 28/29 year old can make...

  122. Wow something just happened that i had to find any of Jamie's posts to say something, Gary Neville has better things to say about Suarez than you, G-Nev ffs praises liverpool more than you do, That is a joke dude and another step towards me thinking you are a United fan just running this blog to wind scousers up

  123. it'd be funny if we steal this guy from right under fergie's nose

    ReplyDelete
  124. we all know what happened with sigurdsson and dempsey. liverpool had ongoing talks with both of those players, until spurs came in

    ReplyDelete
  125. also, why would a player like sneijder go to turkey instead of england, in the prime age of his career? it is well known he has ambitions of playing in england, and man utd have been hot on his trail for a while

    ReplyDelete
  126. if henderson and downing cost more than sneijder if we buy him, it just makes comolli look like a bloody amateur. well, he already has been since RVP was bought for about 22 million, only 2 million more than downing. WTF

  127. I'm 100% sure if he's available and wants to come to us (dear lord I hope he does) then FSG will back it and not their "rule" there are exceptions to every rule. Also, I would play Lucas and Gerrard behind him and give him the freedom to roam alone and find those spaces he does so brilliantly, not limit him by putting Stevie next to him, it helps that Stevies thrived with this new found deep play maker role too. Anyway this is all just rumours and I hope no one gets their hopes up too much. Also, consider that we found Suarez at 40k a week, spending big is not necessary to success but spending smart is. CL level talent is out there on under 80k a week wages, we just have to find them. So yes world class player but he should only be a one off, no more 200+k a week players.

  128. I can't see it happening, FSG want to buy players with hub-caps and bottle caps and he is too "old", we are in the market for twelve year olds, they are creating a second Arse-and-all, buy young, sell high and just do enough to stay in top 4 to keep ticket sales up, I do not believe they are really that interested in cups and titles, this is about business and profit and at the moment we are in the hands of the Rag and Bone men who know nothing about football but do know about making money.

I was surprised that Stevie had the balls to say that, I can't help but wonder if he was trying to get Alonso back (or maybe Lampard?) and got turned down by BR. I personally think our Manager is out of his depth and cracks are beginning to show, I must admit that I find all the rhetoric coming out of Manure Camp really irritating and I do wish our manager would grow some and make a few biting comments of his own.....our silence is bloody deafening ....I do hope we beat the sods to-day but how are our youngsters going to react if our leader appears to be weak.

  129. Why does the comolli thing shock anyone, he overpaid for a bucket full of overrated players when @ spurs!

  130. My question is...... Have liverpool actually made an offer for W.S?, or is this just his agent touting his player?. I Read another report two days ago , supposidly accredited to his agent saying A decision will be made on monday regaurding my players future....now the daily Fail are saying that his agent is quoted as saying no deal is in place for my client to go to gala!

  131. The captain has finally come out in the open and criticized FSG's cheapskate policy. IF Buck Rodgers will only have the balls to fight for the club and most importantly us fans. Good post Jamie. with you on this 100%.

  132. Up until last season RvP had a far worse injury record than Sneijder..I think he's world class, but at this stage of his career I'm not sure his attitude is right, unsettling the team with a big ego could be an extremely bad move right now.
In any case it's very unlikely given that he does not fit FSG's player profile and cost cutting policy!

  133. it doesn't shock me, i'm just highlighting the incompetency of comolli

  135. imo this would just be a 'statement signing' rather than a signing to significantly improve the squad. And we all saw how things panned out with the last 'statement signing' - Joe Cole...

If we're looking for a playmaker, we need somebody that can break the opposition down with his dribbling and/or added goal threat, not just another passer to add to those we already have.

    ReplyDelete
  136. As far as I'm concerned, Sneijder may very well be a quality player, but we just don't need him right now - Gerrard should be playing the No. 10 role right now, with Suso being groomed to take his place; rather than the technically inferior Shelvey & Henderson, who should both be competing for spots further back in the midfield trio.

If we're looking for a central midfielder, it should be a Sissoko/Diame/Capoute/M'vila type, all of whom would be available right now for a bargain price and would significantly improve our squad. We can't continue to rely on having Lucas as the only natural ball-winner in the squad, as if he is anything below his absolute best and we face a team that is smart enough to press us, we tend to struggle to contain powerful players with any sort of talent.

Adding Sow & Sissoko to the signing of Sturridge would be a great transfer window for me, and go a long way to rectifying the mistakes made in the summer.

    ReplyDelete
  137. It will be the wages that will be the stumbling block, imagine the upset in the dressing room with everyone having an idea how much his wages were, Gerrard will throw a hissy fit,,is WS really worth the £200k+ wages he allegedly demands?

    ReplyDelete
  138. So Bale doesn't dive? There are a lot of players who dive, Suarez hasn't actually dived for a long time.

    ReplyDelete
  139. You mean Sturridge who is now 2 from 2 for us?

    ReplyDelete
  140. This is why of the 4 players we bought in the summer, only 2 were British? Sturridge is a clever signing for the way we play. We have also been linked with players from the continent, more so than players from Britain.

    ReplyDelete
  141. This was a different regime, this was Kenny who signed these, do you honestly think Rodgers would have even if he had that kind of money to spend? No chance in hell. If he had gone for Downing and Henderson, it would have been closer to 10 million and would not have gone for Carroll at all.

    ReplyDelete
  142. To be fair, RVP was in the last year of his contract, which plays a huge part.

    ReplyDelete
  143. As a player, yes, he is talented, not too old, so they are the pros, the cons however are as a person, he is hugely egotistical, as someone pointed out, he only seems to last at clubs for a couple of seasons, this sounds like he has a mentality problem, in my opinion, the cons far outweigh the pros in this circumstance. No thank you. Would much rather we go for Rafael van der Vaart, although that won't happen either.

  144. BR is a Puppet ... he is sooo bad for Liverpool becuase of this fact and if you guys all saw the Liverpool match you would have noticed just wat a bad tatician he is ...He is bad for Liverpool football club becuase he is a yes man for FSG who pull the strings BUT THEY ARE AMERICAN WHO KNOW NOTHING ABOUT FOOTBALL ...baseball maybe but not football and not the english and yet they are making policys that BR ( notice Jaimie im not saying BrenDOOM ) is to scared to challege ...where as KK would .....
