Ex-Red tells BR: Forget Sturridge and sign 'proven' £8m striker instead. Agree...?

With the January transfer window finally open, Liverpool will hopefully sign one or two decent players to bolster the squad's attacking options. Daniel Sturridge seems set to be Brendan Rodgers' first signing, but former Reds striker Stan Collymore has urged the manager to ignore the Chelsea striker and bring in a proven goalscorer.

In his column for The Mirror yesterday, Collymore - who formed a magnificent partnership with Robbie Fowler in the mid-1990s - bemoaned the Reds' woeful shots-on-target record (the worst in the Premier League), and insisted that Sturridge is not the answer. He observed:

"With Daniel Sturridge as their main transfer target, I’m not convinced the problem [with scoring goals] is going to end. They would be better off going for a proven striker like Darren Bent, Nicolas Anelka or Didier Drogba"

To be honest, I would take Sturridge over Anelka, and possibly even Drogba at this stage, but I would take Bent over Sturridge every day of the week.

Sturridge is a very unpopular option, especially amongst ex-Liverpool players. In an interview with Talksport last week, Ray Houghton questioned the proposed transfer. He observed:

"I thought Liverpool were going to bring in a goalscorer! Looking at his time at Man City and Chelsea, I can’t remember him scoring that many goals. I’m not sure he’s going to make the difference and take the pressure off Luis Suarez".

Steve Nicol also isn't convinced. In min-December, he told ESPN"

“Daniel Sturridge is not proven quality. He can’t get into the Chelsea team, so why do Liverpool think he’s going to come here and set the place alight?"

On Saturday, Didi Hamann told LFC TV:

"I've been with him [Sturridge] at Man City - he's got huge potential, but for one reason or another, he's not yet fulfilled it. He's done okay in patches, but I don't think you can call him a proven goalscorer in the Premier League yet".

I just don't get why people don't seem to rate the Villa striker. Liverpool need goals. Bent guarantees goals, and has done for his entire top-flight career, and that's all that matters. Consider the following stats, compiled in January 2012:

Photobucket

KEY POINTS

* Scores of creates a goal every 1.8 games
* Guarantees an average of 18 goals a season.
* Majority of goals from open play.
* Average conversion rate of 21%.

* In 2009-10, Bent scored 24 league goals for Sunderland. Imagine what he could do playing alongside superior quality players at Liverpool.

What else needs to be said? The accusation that he wouldn't fit into Rodgers system also doesn't make sense, as Jan Molby argued recently:

"It has been suggested that Bent wouldn't fit into Rodgers's system but you could easily play Suarez off him. Suarez likes that floating role anyway. Without the ball he could take up position on the flank and when Liverpool have the ball he could go and buzz around Bent"

If Liverpool can grab Bent on loan, or even a swap deal, then where is the downside? It's a no-brainer IMO:

* Bent is out of favour at Villa and available.
* He's Premier League proven and guarantees goals.
* No dreaded settling-in period required.
* He hasn't played regularly so he'll be fresh and raring to go.
* Despite warming the bench, he still has 3 goals in 7 starts.
* He could be available for as little as £8m.

I have no doubt that Bent would score more goals for Liverpool than Sturridge. The only thing that might go against him is his age, but he's only 28! He's in the prime of his career, and Rodgers admitted last week that Liverpool need more experience up front.

Bent hasn't started a game for Villa since September; the club is in freefall at the moment, and they'll need money to rebuild the squad. If Liverpool fail to sign Bent, it will be a massive missed opportunity IMO.

  1. Absolutely agree. I'm no big fan of Bent, but with a problem like ours (not putting chances away) and given a choice between Bent and Sturridge, it's the former all the way. However, BR apparently has a 'system' and wants more in a striker than just being able to score goals (e.g. being mobile?). Sometimes though, I think all these new managers try to overcomplicate things... can't score? Get one who is a proven goalscorer. Bent could be way cheaper too.

  2. I can't agree less with Stan! Brendan Rodgers must attract and bring in proven, quality, world-class players!

  3. Bent should have been the player we brought in instead of Andy Carroll. On top of that we would be 17 million better off... And more goals. But for me it is too late and FSG won't agree to big wages and a considerable fee for someone in the twilight of his career. I think Sturridge isn't a bad signing - power, pace and a good shot on him

  4. v can use both Bent n Sturridge ....just tat Villa would not let Bent go on cheap. Complication decides transfer business nowadays....(which is why David Villa n even Ba couldn't come to Anfield) Either way, v will b stronger come Jan..YNWA

  5. Bent is a better striker than Sturridge for sure. Unbelievable we are in dire straits getting a striker of quality. Long gone the days when players would sell their souls to be in the Red of Liverpool.

  6. I'll tell you why Bent wont be considered, he will be 29 in February and if you didn't know, you should, he is considered too old for FSG.  Just look at the Dempsey saga, I said all the long that he wouldn't be signed no matter how much BR wanted it. The board tried to make out they were bargaining but without any real conviction.

FSG and John Henry want young players tied down to long contracts and lower wages than the present players are receiving.  I can see them long term, setting up or gaining a stake in a feeder club in the States to pick up young American talent, just look at the size of the population and ethnic mix in the USA with South American, Spanish and African youngsters who prefer football to the American corruption of rugby, there has to be rich pickings there.

  7.  if 28 is the twilight of someones career then theres something wrong there..... yes sturridge has power pace and a good shot on him but he is also greedy and hardly ever has his head up to find someone in sppace. dont get me wrong i like sturridge but they are the downsides to signing him. bent will score goals but the downside to him is his work ethics which is why i dont think rodgers will sign him.

    ReplyDelete
  8. If bents that good why he not in a pi** poor villa team......listen im clueless but even i can workout what rogers is trying to do....for his system he needs strikers come wingers so thats what hes after hence hes looking at ince and sturridge...im not saying this is right or wrong but thats the profile of player hes after..as for collymore who cares what he thinks you may as well have quoted gazza as well ...

    ReplyDelete
  9.  we are out of that market so we may as well start pinpointing and debating lower end players...

    ReplyDelete
  10.  hindsight's great will ...but you can bet your bottom dollar if we had signed bent it would have cost us more in a fee and wages thats just the lfc way ....as for sturridge i hope it works....my concern is that no other clubs are interested ( including Chelsea ) and will he fit in ... i just hope rogers knows what he is doing ..like i say its a new year and a new start so im giving rogers and his tika taka a chance

  11. niether excite me ,when will fsg learn, villa ,huntaalar, these are the kind of strikers we need but they cannot make a profit on them so theres no chance, also if we sign sturridge today it looks like this year will be as bad as the last

    ReplyDelete
  12. Window opens today or tomorrowZ?

    ReplyDelete
  13. same here ..i dont think either would particularly improve the team ..the worry i have with both these players is that for all there hype there clubs sell them on readily and they cant get into there respective teams ...Also its worth pointing out to Jamie that  its harder to play for chelsea than villa just to even the debate up

    ReplyDelete
  14. It all depends how high you set your targets as a club and LFC must attract only proven, quality, world-class players and managers.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Why are we even talking about Bent. He failed miserably at Spurs, he choked the majority of the time. There is a lot more pressure at Liverpool, what makes you think he'll fair better. To me, he's not a player for the big stage, simple!

    ReplyDelete
  16. i agree ....but it just isnt FSG policy...long term FSG are looking to run a buisness model that buys younger players cheap then sell them on.....great in theory hard in practise ..to run this kind of operation right you need a proffesional club infrastructure in all depts ..a network of highly efficient scouts ...i could go on and on ...I dont think FSG have any of this in place hence we haemorage money on high wages and fees for average players..

    ReplyDelete
  17. agree we should be after players who are making an impact at there clubs not rejects,if i had to have any of the strikers we have a realistic chance of signing(and there are not many)i  would not know who to pick they all underwealm me,really is a depressing time to be a lfc fan i,ve got a bad feeling new year same old tierd excuses from fsg and rodgers

    ReplyDelete
  18. I regard Sturridge as a quality wide-forward, but am unsure of him as a centre-forward.

I am one of the fans that will be VERY happy to see Sturridge arrive, but would like to see another striker arrive also, moreso than another winger (Ince).

Bent on loan would be a good signing imo - low risk, high reward

    ReplyDelete
  19. How can we take seriously an argument that Sturridge can't get a spot in the Chelsea team and yet opt for another striker who can't get a spot at Villa? Losing your starting chances to Torres is one thing but if Bent is not holding down a place at Villa then precisely what is going wrong?

    ReplyDelete
  20.  well probably sign him and hell do a cole and vanish into obscurity....this guys been touting himself to all and everyone ...i hope he proves me wrong but Liverpool do tend to sign players without knowing anything about them or if they will fit into the team and pay them astronomical wages

    ReplyDelete
  21. the bottom line is hes average...if we are not going for top tier we may as well just buy young kids cheap with potential or use kids like yesil and morgan.....when you are signing journeyman like this who have played for a host of clubs you realy are in last chance alley

    ReplyDelete
  22. I agree with redlyred to some extent! Bent needs to be a Big fish in a small pond!

He failed at Spurs and is currently out of the villa side due to a dispute with Lambert. Has to be a dispute because they get thrashed every week, except when Benteke turned it on against us!

Bent IS prolific, but also A CONFIDENCE PLAYER! Sturridge is young and has been played out of position a lot! I hope Rodgers does not buy him as Kuyts replacement!!

    ReplyDelete
  23.  that was my point when we played stoke if we had bent sturrige and ince playing we would still have lost

    ReplyDelete
  24. Bale dived, AGAIN! And he even got angry at the ref for showing him yellow card- I think he is starting to believe he should get penalties because wind fouled him...

    ReplyDelete
  25. Think Ba would be great signing...

    ReplyDelete
  26.  your kidding this guy carries more baggage than British Airways

    ReplyDelete
  27. I think he carries more goals than any player that costs that much. And some more expensive ones...

    ReplyDelete
  28.  Ince is completely unproven in the PL so is a gamble no matter what anyone says ..stuuridge has done it in fits and starts ....he looks to have all the tools in his locker ...just one question can he open the locker door

    ReplyDelete
  29. My point exactly i wouldnt like JK to be my brief in court with a defence plea like that

    ReplyDelete
  30.  Adam was prolific for a midfielder at Blackpool ..but this is liverpool ....Bent has neither the skill or mindset to play for liverpool

    ReplyDelete
  31. hes got a dodgy knee...rumour has that it was gained through carrying his agents money

    ReplyDelete
  32. rumour has that he was looking for 150g a week off chelsea

  33. Newcastle v Everton
     Everton v Swansea
    Chelsea v ArsenaL
    Tottenham v Man Utd
    Arsenal v Man City
    Stoke v Chelsea
We MUST win two at home and at old crapford everything is possible. And these 6 matches with 7-9 points from ours can get us near the top 4. By then it will be up to our new signings and BR's style which should be working...

    ReplyDelete
  34. I think Lambert doesn't like Bent, or his attitude stinks, or something like that.
Sturridge isn't getting into Chelsea's first team as they're playing with one striker and Torres is Roman's Golden Boy, who isn't allowed to be dropped (ask AVB & Di Matteo about that). Bent isn't getting a look in for a team who are leaking goals like nobody's business and are in dire need of something, soon or they're getting relegated.

If we're going to go after an 'older' striker, then Defoe is who we should going for and should have brought into the club a long while ago.

I think Sturridge will do fine, Suarez will draw defenders off him and create a ton of chances for him.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I don't know are those rumours true, but I know he scores load of goals...

    ReplyDelete
  36. I totally agree with you so may be FSG and BR is not the right fit for LFC!

    ReplyDelete
  37. see barca have turned down a loan bid for villa where out with the begging bowl again, and why would they let a 15/20 million striker go out on loan they would have to be lunatics(hang about lfc caroll)to consider it lets lend him to lfc and turn down the hard cash some club will almost surely pay

    ReplyDelete
  38. I just hope that whoever comes in hits the ground running!!

Ba would be a welcome addition, as would David Villa!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Kevin Gameiro rumour seems to be gathering pace. he is an out and out striker 25 and knows where the goal is. He could be the answer.

    ReplyDelete
  40. funny thing is, people only blame suarez for diving sometimes..

    ReplyDelete
  41. i dont think we need four stikers (sturridge is done suarez borini + gameiro would be one to much)
so i dont think this deal is going to happen. Would love to see a CAM midfielder instead (Holtby please :) )
A defensive would be great too - Diame maybe ?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Who is talking about Adam? I'm no fan of Bent either and would rather LFC sign David Villa or a Big Name CF, but Bent IS a prolific striker with a PROVEN premiership goalscoring record!!

    ReplyDelete
  43. another player on loan f"ck sake lfc is turning into a liberary

    ReplyDelete
  44. A good shot on him?? maybe with a hand cannon, certainly not with a football

    ReplyDelete
  45. Diame is a very good call. west Ham are a different team when he plays. And we could do with a bit of height (6ft) and strength. This lad has both.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I think the idea is to sign players who can play wide when Suarez is fit and through the middle when Suarez is Injured.  Bent doesn't really offer that type of versatility.

We should really have kept Bellamy at all costs, by that I mean keep him against his will :)

    ReplyDelete
  47. im just trying to point out that its okay being a big fish in a small pond..at Liverpool you are under scrutiny from day 1 ..we even have our own tv channel some players just cant handle it

    ReplyDelete
  48.  exactly thats why rogers keeps going for strikers come wingers...i dont have a problem with that as long as they are better than what we have..are sturridge and ince better than downing ...would you put your mortgage on it

    ReplyDelete
  49. yep. the perfect coverage for lucas, if we play against teams like stoke we have to battle in the midfield. hes exactly that sort of strong player we would need

    ReplyDelete
  50. Yep we should have done that.
Same with Maxi, he was a good player

    ReplyDelete
  51. World-class players and managers don't often join League Cup winners and teams who have finished 8th, 6th and 7th in the past three seasons. They rather join teams with world-class squads, which we haven't had for a few years now.

    ReplyDelete
  52. dont think either will fit fsgs policy to old to expensive

    ReplyDelete
  53. Kinda agree J-Rock, Bent is a great player so often under rated. The othe r two though on on the down hill side of things, and think sturridge is a better option. He is not most fans first choice, but if he signs I will back him, as im not a Chelsea fan, and wont give a Liverpool player stick before he kicks a ball.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Sturridge is yes. Ince is a unknown, but Sturridge imo is a lot better than Downing. Sturridge scores a lot of goals for a young player who doesnt get many options to play. Downing doesn`t. The only issue with Sturridge is his personality, but we have seen before with rogue players, who have come to us, they can change. Take Bellamy, before his second spell he was still seen as a nightmare trouble maker. Yet for me he was a model pro, a real example. The question is will Sturridge see this as his last big chance to prove he can do it, if so he will be hungry, eager and wanting to make it work, and therefore might be willing to listen to BR. I`m sure during convos BR will have worked out if Sturridge is the type of person he wants.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Almost every transfer is a gamble. You never know whether a player adapts to his new surroundings, is content picking up his pay-cheque and so on. Question is do we want to gamble on a 6m player like Ince, who is still young, or gamble on a journeyman in his late 20ies who will cost a far higher fee as well as comanding higher wages.

    ReplyDelete
  56. There is never any point in keeping any player against there will.

    ReplyDelete
  57. We have been in good form, and won 5 of our  7 games in DEC. We got some hard games coming up though. Three top teams all away from home, will be hard. If we can get through them with some wins though things will look very very good.

    ReplyDelete
  58. He should get a second yellow for complaining straight away then.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I want to see Yann M'Vila at Liverpool. Period.

    ReplyDelete
  60. But the press never really talk about it too much. Suarez is still the press favorite for being a "diver" even though for the last 5 weeks he has been almost perfect. I`m not shouting conspiracy, as I don`t think there is one, just I know what the press our like. Suarez and the word diving sells more papers.

On a side note, I`m still in shock that we actually got a pen the other day.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Would have loved to keep Bellamy, but not against his will.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Don't have a mortgage, but yes, Sturridge and Ince are or will soon be better than Downing.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Exactly, which means you can`t have one bad day. This is always my gripe when looking at players from smaller teams. They may look good when you see the odd good game they had, but often have bad games. At the top level there is no room for a bad game.

    ReplyDelete
  64. He was and would have flourished in this new system; as would Bellamy and most likely Kuyt too.
Some of our play this season has been outstanding, imagine what would have been if we had this system with the players we had in 08/09 season?

We'll get there, it'll take a bit of time and patience (not 4 months!) but we're heading in the right direction.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I`m really hoping Sturridge works out, not just cause it means we will do better, but also cause I`ve been sticking up for Sturridge and defending him on here for ages, and will look a right tool if he don`t lol.

Also would be funny if we don`t even go for him and its all been media hype lol. We are all talking like he has signed, which I know looks the case due to comments from Rafa etc.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Spurs did it with Modric and he still performed, as have other clubs but, generally, it's the right thing to do. Although, I would have kept Torres until at least the end of the season and watched his attitude & form pick up playing alongside Suarez.

    ReplyDelete
  67. The AC thing makes more sense. AC is young, Villa is not. If AC did well on his loan, his price would rise, and we could either re-coup more money or keep him.

Agreed though for Villa loaning him makes no sense due to his age, all it would do is run his contract down.

Talking of which I still don`t get why Cole wants us to buy out his contract so he can leave on a free, surely if he wants to leave he goes, no contract to buy out. If we are paying his wages to see his contract out, then he can stay at the club and earn the money, by washing the boots of the other players

    ReplyDelete
  68. We lost to stoke in the midfield. We have way to many poor mid players. We are fine when teams sit off us, then we do very well, but up against teams like stoke who will hound you, you need strong mids of which we have zero. Even Lucas who is our DM is not a Masch. I actually thinking getting a new very strong DM would prob be the best position we could fill. It would mean on games we are hounded the other team can`t just cut through us like stoke did, and on other games the Strong DM can be benched, letting us play flowing football

    ReplyDelete
  69. What do you make of Walcott? or do you think we don`t have a chance with him?

    ReplyDelete
  70. Is he not off to AFN cup though?

    ReplyDelete
  71. I think today, but no paper work can be done today, so might as well be 2moz

    ReplyDelete
  72. that was part of my point..the other part is im not sure if our prospective signings are real game changers...when we play certain teams in certain condition's we need a big presence in midfield

    ReplyDelete
  73.  he wants us to buy him out at 50 grand a week ..his current wages are 90 grans a week ...we are better off buying him out  like jokavic....when are the suits at Liverpool gonna realize buying shit players gets you no where

    ReplyDelete
  74. totally agree let the greedy sh1te be a steward on the kop

    ReplyDelete
  75. the lack of interest from other clubs is a worry ...but i hope your right or its another 20m down the pan

    ReplyDelete
  76. cannot see him coming to a club ,who in all fairness mite not be in europe at all next season, its going to be second rate signings,or money mad mercenarys

    ReplyDelete
  77. Totally agree with you about the age thing! I think Bent and Sturridge would be excellent additions, and give a lot more depth to the team. the youth movement is great when you look at future potential, but it does nothing to help now, and now is when we need the help. Plus, if you don't surround the young talent with greatness (or at least good players, because I don't think Bent is really on par with someone like Suarez) the young players are learning from the wrong people. Bent has a bad attitude, true, but he can score. And that's the key right now. Performance and behavior clauses can be put in a contract to correct that kind of thing. LFC does it with the Red Sox players.

Really glad we didn't get Dempsy though. He's not setting the world on fire right now.

An American feeder club? American players are coming along, but if FSG is going to use American players, get used to being bottom of the table.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Bent should be signed by LFC.. Not only we get a proven goalscorer but we also get the "Liverpool 'Sign' Bent" jokes off once and for all!

    ReplyDelete
  79. Lack of reports of interest from other clubs doesn't mean there isn't any.

Sturridge was considered an excellent prospect at Man City and did considerably well at Bolton. Not getting many games at Chelsea who during his time there had Drogba, Anelka and Torres at their disposal doesn't say anything either.

I, too, wasn't convinced at all about his proposed transfer to Liverpool, but, well, first of all we can't do anything about it but hope and wish that he turns out being good enough. And while reading through many comments and reports on him on other websites (by both Chelsea and Liverpool supporters) I got the feeling that he is much, much better than what some decriers want to make us believe. It's just like any other transfer. I am often not sure whether or not a player is what we want or need until I've seen the player for long enough in our team. Torres didn't score that much for Atletico Madrid and look how that has worked out. Every transfer is a risk to some extend and the real football world simply isn't football manager where (I guess) a good player will be good in any team.

    ReplyDelete
  80. when we brought him he didn`t look so bad, his wages fitted what we were paying as we were often in CL. It is cheaper to get rid, but it is just wrong, no player should be paid to leave to play and get paid by someone else. If he wants to go, then he goes, if it is us wanting to get rid and he wants to stay then I get it

    ReplyDelete
  81. I can`t see us being in CL for a while, and tbh I don`t count the Europa, as no top players wants that anyway. I personally think he wants to stay at Asrenal and was just pushing his luck to get more money, and his central position, which seems to be working

    ReplyDelete
  82. europa is a stepping stone it gives the players experiece also it genarates money

    ReplyDelete
  83. I think up front though is a gamer changer for us, so many games we should have scored a lot, before the other team does, if we had scored two games before them, there style of play would prob change, and open up more spaces for us, plus we could change too to stop goals going in. As I said though I still think like you MID is a problem. Just right now we got stupid amounts of MID players, we would need to sell about 4, to even really need any more (wages wise)

    ReplyDelete
  84. LFC has a rich history and heavy heritage in worldwide football, so, if they don't come because of what you mention above then FSG must reconsider whether is the right ownership for this historic club!

    ReplyDelete
  85. spot on. Also players don`t want to be apart of a selling club, unless you are just a stepping stone for them. So unless you are winning the league, you will always lose your best players. There model only works money wise too if you sign the young players for 1/2mil tops, not 20mil. They would have to become one of the best players in the world to get that money back.

    ReplyDelete
  86. I`m suprised no other clubs are, it might be the case of we have already agreed the deal and his agent therefore didn`t speak to other clubs and Sturridge said he wanted to only play for us, when compared to the other clubs in for him.

    ReplyDelete
  87. It`s a chick flick lol or also at the latter end of something, like when the moon is setting in, and the day is coming to a end, or in said case, his career

    ReplyDelete
  88. But top players still don`t really want it, maybe up and coming ones do though

    ReplyDelete
  89. yep agreed, lack of reported interest means nothing, many clubs could have been in for him, most clubs don`t tell everyone who they are going for.

I am prob one of the few who think Sturridge is a better player than people give credit for.

    ReplyDelete
  90. they would rather have it than nothing thats how they earn there moves to bigger clubs

    ReplyDelete
  91. This is the very best idea I've hear from you. I am literally rofl.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Spot on, Jason!

    ReplyDelete
  93. Considering the zeitgeist in probably all so called western countries, which is somewhere along "I want everything, always, and right now", our undoubted rich history and heavy heritage count little for a world-class player who could also join any of the (other) heavy weight football clubs in Europe. Additionally some of these clubs pay wages that only they can pay (PSG, Chelsea, Man City). The modern day footballer probably doesn't think about the rich history of a club, but the huge wages he'll receive plus Champions League football.

    ReplyDelete
  94. rafa s  parting shots!

    ReplyDelete
  95. You might be right up to a point but neither of Chelsea, Man City, PSG counts 8 European titles as LFC does, so, it is not only a matter of money but a matter of being a part of a heavy heritage!

    ReplyDelete
  96. I know our history considerably well and it truly is a great history, but that is exactly what it is. History. If a player has to make a choice between joining us or say Sunderland or Newcastle or Everton, then our history may well swing his decision in our favour. But if he has the choice of joining Man City (and warming their bench) earning 150k or more a week or joining us earning 50k a week, most players would choose Man City, sad as it is.

    ReplyDelete
  97. History never vanishes and the big challenge in managers' and players' lives is to be an integral part of re-installing the pride back to the LFC's fans around the world and contribute as the glory days can return sooner than later!

    ReplyDelete
  98. I truly doubt that so called world-class players think like that.

True, history never vanishes. Greece, Rome, Egypt, Mesopotamia, they all have great history, but none are nearly as important today as they once have been. History is in the past, today's world-class players live in the present. We might be lucky enough that there are a few world-class players out there who actually grew up supporting Liverpool as they might choose our history over the current riches and success of others.

Preston N.E. actually were the first league champions and so far the only team to go unbeaten in one season in the league and the cup. Great history indeed. Doesn't change that fact that they are currently mid-table in  League One and doesn't attract any world-class players. (I don't want to compare their history to ours, but, well, you surely get my point.)

  99. Do we have a scouting department, where are our transfer gems. We have to have scouts who can pin point the "Michu"s  of the world. There has to be deals to be made in spain. Look at Malaga and other clubs that are struggling financially. Not just this window but every window because it is obivious that we can not financial compete with the Citys and Chelseas of the world.

  100. LFC fans are winners and not losers.  They are those who can keep the red flame
unquenchable as the ownership can realize that it has a huge responsibility
toward the history of this club and its fans as to bring back the glory days
    sooner than later!

  101. Can't reply to your most recent reply, which, in it's own right is correct. Unfortunately I completely fail to understand it in the context of our discussion.

  103. That would be a great rule!

  104. I know what the twilight is, just disagree... thanks though...

  105. Yes, but having Stturidge(and Borini), we could wait...

  106. Thought this rule already exists. Mouthing off to the ref can cause a yellow.

  107. Yes, but only as an option that refs hardly ever choose...

  108. Unfortunately they don't. It sickens me when entire teams beleaguer the refs. Only the players involved in an incident plus the club captains should be allowed to talk to the ref after the incident. Any other player who feels the need to mouth off should be yellow carded straight away. Would save a lot of playing time too.

  109. It is unbelievable that UEFA and FIFA did not come to the same conclusion as you- I did at the age of 16...

  110. Maybe we wouldn't have those ideas if we were a bunch of corrupt big-headed know-alls. I wouldn't come up with the ideas Platini has if I took all sorts of drugs. Those guys are really special (Platini and Blatter).
