Staying or going? Boss finally confirms January plans for £15m LFC target...

The tedious Theo Walcott transfer saga may finally be over (!) With Liverpool closing in on Thomas Ince, who plays a similar role to the Arsenal attacker, Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has once again emphatically ruled out the possibility of Walcott leaving the Emirates Stadium in January.

Speaking to reporters yesterday, Wenger confirmed:

"We will not sell Theo in January, that is for sure.

"He has to make his mind up now and I hope the decision taken by the other players will help him to do that.

"My gut feeling is that he belongs to this club and that I hope he will do it and sign for us. I have always been convinced he will stay".

A couple of weeks ago, Wenger hinted that his patience was wearing thin, and demanded that the 23-year old commit to Arsenal. He told The Mirror:

“He has to commit, and as long as you do not do that, you are not completely at ease. It is important for our squad as well that he [Walcott] is completely committed. At some stage it has to be concrete.”

£15m-rated Walcott's existing contract runs out next summer, and Rodgers has already contacted Arsenal about the possibility of a deal, but is yet to hear anything back from the the London club, who are allegedly 'willing to enter negotiations with both Liverpool and City'.

In November, Liverpool legend Steve Nicol argued that the Reds should steer clear of Walcott:

"Liverpool need players who are proven and Theo Walcott’s not proven. He’s too inconsistent. What they don’t need now is another inconsistent player. They need someone who every match you know exactly what you’re going to get."

Two months ago, Liverpool were bookmaker's favourites to sign Walcott, but the club's odds have been slashed recently, with Chelsea and Man United now favourites to land the player (if he doesn't sign a new deal)

  3. So he still loves Liverpool and wants to come here. Just like he did in 2010 when playing for Nice.

  5. No manager in the right frame of mind will put Walcottttt as a striker.
His best position is in the wings with having the freedom of space and his pace into assists and striking opportunities [Period]!

  6. Yeah, he,s gaggin to come here, lol

  7. Playing on the wings requires more ability to beat a man than playing through the middle where movement off of the ball is more important.

Walcott has all of the same strengths and weaknesses as Michael Owen (and Torres too to a lesser extent) and playing them upfront did them no harm at all.

  10. Tell him again! How many goals has sterling scored dis season.

  11. Sterling will be at least 3 times the player Walcott is, I think Walcott is a decent player but he is no where near as good as some of the guys on here make him out to be

  12. Walcott is a very very long way off been a world class player mate

  13. We don't need players to dictate which position they want to play. Rodgers has insisted that a Walcott move is just rumors. He is a mercenary and stalling because he wants higher wages.
That goes for Sturridge as well. Don't want him either.

  14. walcott, after leaving arsenal,he will also work hard and will become very good player like cesc, rvp, henry etc., but he will not get start. arsenal is heaven, here there is no accountability, your manager also will not say anything even this team loses 10 games continueously, instead will support his players.if wants any silverwire time to leave this team.

  20. Am I the only one who can't fathom y we not In advance contract negotiations with .BA....we need to know that at this point the only top / proven goal scorers we can sign are the contract rebels and we will need 2 ...I will relish a front three of Suarez , Ba and loic remy .

  21. i dont think he will stick round for another season and who can blame him

  22. I've never rated Walcott out wide but that's maybe because he was never a wide man. Similar to Arshavin, who is also a striker who has been shunted onto the wing and looks the worse for it. From what I've seen of Walcott through the middle he looks class. Movement, touch, pace and awareness. He looks to be almost the complete striker.

  23. Personally Id like to see Ba, Walcott and Ince come in Jan for total of around £20m with Downing, Cole and Carroll(more likely in summer) leaving

Then in the summer spend heavy on Christian Eriksen(Ajax), James Rodriguez(Porto) and a LB(Maybe Rose)

With Eriksen replacing Sahin, who we wont sign, Leaving us with a front 3 of Ba, Suarez and Rodriguez backed up by Walcott, Sterling and Ince. Not many teams have better than that!!

  24. Walcott will b a great addition BUT he won't come coz:
    (i) No CL
    (ii) lfc got no $$$
(iii) other bigger clubs want him

  25. I agree, its just sickening when we have a player like him and for some reason expect him to wait around for 2-3 seasons whilst all the signings with apparent "potential" find their feet.. Any other club would buy the quality needed to compliment him now, its just a joke

  26. ah but rogers is an idiot

  27. i agree with you ,he looks and acts frustrated too day in day out, but no top player wants to really be here and if you agree i suggest that we could scout top scorers who are contract rebels like lorente and Ba we really need a scary front line to put confidence in our english midfielders who naturally are looking to give balls to players who can actually bury the ball.we really look awful as a team now for 18yr olds to be holding us to ransom on their contract extensions.lol.

  28. swap BA for Caroll and Reina for Walcott,.........seriously i think Ba is on our wish list but the management thinks otherwise. when Suarez finally leaves next year or 2 (cos i don't know y he should keep suffering) we will den be doomed for relegation ..then we will know y the term quick fix was coined.

  30. Liverpool for Ever8:33 pm, December 23, 2012

Walcott is a talented player . Yes he is inconsistent but he is certainly better than many on LFC 's books right now .

    Liverpool should buy him
