'I'd tell him to stay' - Team-mate urges exciting £6m attacker to reject LFC transfer...

Veteran Blackpool striker Kevin Phillips has urged Thomas Ince to reject a move to Liverpool and continue his development with the Seasiders.

Speaking to the Blackpool Gazette yesterday, Phillips - who is still banging in the goals at the age of 39 - urged Ince to wait until the summer to move away. He said:

“If I was giving him advice, I’d tell him [Ince] to stay at Blackpool.

"If he continues producing the goods like he has he’ll get his big move in the summer.”

“It would be hard to turn down someone offering silly money, but from a footballing point of view, Tom would probably benefit more from staying here for the rest of the season"

Blackpool manager Michael Appleton revealed yesterday that the Reds have put in an offer, but dismissed it as too small:

"I think there's been a conversation between Karl and Liverpool regarding an offer but, as far as I'm aware, it's way below the type of money we would expect for someone of Tom's talent,

Liverpool are reportedly willing to up their offer to £6m, but according to The Mirror, a new problem with the deal has arisen:

"Haggling over the fee has been complicated by the 20-year-old being due a £600K slice of the profit from the sale, which is delaying the process behind the scenes. Blackpool are said to be unhappy as the player payment will reduce their profit out of it".

In his pre-Fulham press conference on Thursday, reporters asked Rodgers directly about the Ince transfer, and he appeared to be in the dark over the club's offer. When told that Blackpool had confirmed that a bid for Ince had come in from Liverpool, Rodgers said:

"Did Blackpool say which club made the bid? [Journo replies:'Liverpool'].

"I’m not sure to be honest. If we can get young British players in to the club will be fantastic, but it’s being dealt with by the people above me".

Liverpool legend Jan Molby believes Ince could be a decent signing, but insists that the club need more than just Ince and Sturridge in January. He argued:

"I saw a fair bit of Ince when he was in the reserves at Liverpool and he appears to have added to his game during his time at Blackpool. Leaving to go and play ‘real’ football has certainly done him good.

"Sturridge doesn't have a mind-blowing goalscoring record, so I hope there is another signing to come".

  1. Looking at how LFC is dealing with Ince and Sturridge deals, we haven't learned anything from Dempsey saga.

  2. niether player gets me excited average signings for a average team hardly going to give us the almighty push that we need if we are ever going to challenge for champions league places again ,dont get me wrong ince may be one for the future but imo if we do not act now it could well be to late

  3. owner did tell us that there will be no quick fixes, overpriced transfers and more of a youth development...so why did you have any expectations this January anyway? Every world class talent will be overpriced...look at hazard even though he is wonderful talent but 35-40mn for him plus 8mn for his agent and wages/signing on fees is massively pathetic...!! And even world class talent like him, Mata, Oscar et al...couldn't qualify for next round. Man City- same story. What make you think big signings will help Liverpool?

In a way, I agree that quick fixes are not always the right way to success but if it comes at right price, why not? I don't see anyone at right price nowadays though.

  7. if lfc don,t win today rodgers can take is tacky football and do one ,and stuff all the bleeding hearts who come on here defending him it will be simply undefendable ,fulham 1 win in nine no midfield should be 3 or 4 goals easy

  8. I agree it's time to pull the finger out really. I support the 'project' and the changes over time with BR but the last few and upcoming fixtures are realistically all winnable games. Villa result was disappointing and we need to bounce back hard.

  9. In that case, Spurs to sign Ince!

  10. they are more than just realistically winnable they are winnable...all this building for the futures is just an excuse to hide misgivings...WBA changed manager and are flying...and clubs change managers and systems all the time ..its all crap.... at the end of the day its getting 11 players on a pitch to perform if you cant deliver do one

  11. I hope Sturridge's greed scuppers the move. he would be such an underwhelming signing. Ince however excites me. For 6m he could be a steal. i really see big potential there.
If the right players are bought, 4th is possible, if not, buck is going to be under some pressure. FB AND DS are not world class players like Luis. LS needs to be playing with WC players. While Ince and sterling are young, they both have that spark that makes the difference between decent young player and top young player. If there were those 2, and then another quality player instead of sturridge, we'd be looking fairly strong in the attacking positions.
we need to start a DS NO THANKS campaign.

  12. Just a thought:Instead of committing to 1 style of play for whole game(tick-tacky)why not switch to conventional style now and then, the NFL play 2 styles the running game and the passing game, makes for interesting game. Most of the team are schooled in the conventional game anyway. It would be less predictable.Tick-tacky has to go!
