Confirmed LFC line-up vs. Stoke: Important duo on the bench. Good decision...?

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has named an unchanged team for tonight's Premier League game with Stoke City.

FULL TEAM: Reina, Johnson, Enrique, Skrtel, Agger, Lucas, Gerrard, Shelvey, Suso, Downing, Suarez.

SUBS: Jones, Carragher, Coates, Henderson, Allen, Cole, Sterling.

It's good to see Rodgers sticking with the same team; why change a winning side, especially one that showed such positive attacking fluidity against Fulham?

Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson believes that benching Sterling and Allen has led to improved performance on the field. He told the BBC:

"Rodgers left Joe Allen and Raheem Sterling out for the win over Fulham and that was probably the best Liverpool have played all season, so they have got a bit of competition for places going"

Lawro predicts a 1-1 draw at the Brittannia, and he believes the Reds are going to be in for a 'really difficuly' evening. He noted:

"Liverpool have won three out of the last four but it is very difficult for me to think they will win at the Britannia Stadium, although I can see a draw".

  1. I was thinking hendo would of strated ahead of shelvy. Surprised at suso starting too, dont think hes physically strong enough to start away to stoke.

  2. Sterling as an inpact sub could be a stroke of genius though!
Also I prefer the midfield with lucas stevie and shelvey its a little more direct than with allen in the team.

  3. So we're unchanged, sterling should of started and shelvey became a regular now just like suarez wow, dont know what rodgers sees in him really, sahin assaidi nowhere God knows whats happening at this club

    ReplyDelete
  4. Not sure if you watched the anfield game but suso actually stood up to the battle very well.

  5. Good performance last time out, raising expectations, which the Reds now must shatter in trademark fashion by inexplicably choking and letting fans down by losing 2-0 at long ball garbage stoke city, making stoke look like world beaters in the process.

I hope to be proven wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  6. anyone know where assaidi is? not the best attacking options on the bench when you need to change the game apart from sterling

    ReplyDelete
  7. What a bunch of whiners on here ...

    You should all **** *** !!!!

    ReplyDelete
  8. Assaidi has some fitness problems, with the knee or something like that.

  10. i prefer suso in the attacking mid role. I think an interesting team would have coates as a third centre back, two top wing backs and only one out of suso and shelvey. Downing deserves the start after the last two matches, he could provide extra width on either side.

  11. Assiadi is injured, Sahin is recovering from a nose operation. Shelvey's a big lad, Stoke are brawlers, Messi would get booted off the park at the Britannia, we need the extra bit of muscle in the midfield. Maybe we'll get a penalty tonight, who knows?

    ReplyDelete
  12. I agree with tree at the back.
Would have gone for 3-5-2 here.

Three centerbacks to cope with the aerial bombardment, with Johnson & Enrique as wingbacks.

Suso in behind the front two of Suarez and Sterling for some extra creativity.

Biggest worry for me is the condition of the pitch, might not be the best for our passing style.

  14. can anyone tell me the point of hitting high balls into box against stoke....on a negative two very poor goals to giveaway marking on jones non existent what is reina doing

    ReplyDelete
  15. Stoke a side that barely scores and concedes at home, yet we score super early and concede two quickly. Pffft.

Oh belated merry xmas to all

Halftime review: a Complete and utter DISGRACE!, any chances created totally wasted, cant defend, making garbage like stoke look world class!.

  20. Take it easy Suso.

  21. I noticed you were silent after the Fulham game..

    ReplyDelete
  22. The blip is not today's performance, it was the performance against Fulham.

    ReplyDelete
  23. you were proved right in the 4th minute with Skrtel's slip

    ReplyDelete
  24. I was out, you know, "outside" like.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Problem is one step forward and two backwards under Rodgers , there is no plan B and we really cannot defend as we leak too many goals on a regular basis

    ReplyDelete
  26. bloodpressure trough the roof. How can a club like stoke make fun of our midfield?! Jones and Walters too much for our defence? we are playing like pigs with bottles stuffed in ar***.

something needs to change second half. id put suso middle and take shelvey off and put sterling on side. not sure if that will remedy anything but Shelvey has shown nothing.

im not counting on us showing backbone like against westham. **ck it frustrates me to watch the game trough these negative shades, but ive noticed im not that dissappointed when i dont expect a performance....

    ReplyDelete
  27. You go on too much.... Seriously it's stoke, we aren't good against more physical sides.

    ReplyDelete
  28. So, you'd rather have Allen in there getting smashed?

    ReplyDelete
  29. HT 2-1
Ok, I think we can still win this.

Would bring Stirling on in place of Shelvey, and push him up front with Suarez with Suso in behind.
We need to focus our attack through the middle as stoke look vulnerable there.

Need the three points, must go for the win.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Bloody hell, it's whinge central on here, tonight! Only 2 teams have scored 2 goals there this season, I think the All Blacks would struggle, physically, against Stoke!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I agree but not that its only been under Rodgers, weve been inconsistent for 3 and a half years. The frustrating thing is that we create so many chances but poor finishing and poor final ball is missing. And the goals conceded are silly errors so you think that can be quickly sorted. But it happens far too often now for them to be shrugged off. Its so frustrating because it feels like we are almost there.. but in reality its very far (and lots of money) away.

    ReplyDelete
  32. They barely score at home either and yet they have scored 3 tonight! :(

    ReplyDelete
  33. Sadly this is what we are now starting to accept as the norm - mediocre standards against a Stoke side that cost £millions less than our team yet is still above us in the table, One OF the things Stoke do better than us is defend !

    ReplyDelete
  34. Stoke 3 Spineless chokers 1, thats it game game over, a complete and utter DISGRACE and a FARCE, expect the 'mighty' stoke to get a couple more, never been so embarressed to be a Liverpool fan,STOP putting up with mediocrity!.

    Rodgers OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!

  35. Fair point Tommy and yes Agreed

    ReplyDelete
  36. oh this is awful

    ReplyDelete
  37. Yep. Getting sick of BR's 'Everyone is outstanding! And the team is amazing!' schtick. I wish everyone connected with LFC would just tone down the friggin' hyperbole a bit.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Just Like the Villa Game we have turned Stoke into World Beaters, they hardly ever score at home yet we have conceded three , I think that is a good reason to whinge

    ReplyDelete
  39. We're still too lightweight in midfield, any of the following would do Diame, Momo Sissoko, type enforcer is what we lack! Shelvey isn't having a great game!

    ReplyDelete
  40. been saying for years skrtel is terrible most of the time and agger is just a pussy who cant defend well at all, just fragile looking as a pair they are poor.
id take shawcross and huth any day over them, in fact Liverpool would be that much better.
sod spending on forwards we need defenders.
Rodgers has really cocked up last 2 games with selection and formation.
I feel for reina with poor protection, he deserves better.

    ReplyDelete
  41. it can get worse
    we play QPR this week-end

    ReplyDelete
  42. and they fight harder which is the saddest thing.
Liverpool players just gutless. not one hard man in defence, no enforcer in midfield and one hell of fighter in suarez which just aint enough

    ReplyDelete
  43. tika taka may be great for a balmy night in spain...not so great in winter on a poor pitch...everyone getting carried away because we beat a poor fulham at home...villa stuffed us at home the got beat 8 nil and stoke are out playing us....the problem with 4 33 is once teams get you on the back-foot you leak goals we could quite possibly have 5 put past us at this rate....we are making jones just like we made benke look like superstars....sick of hearing rogers tell us how good we are then we get pasted by bog standard teams absolute disgrace

    ReplyDelete
  44. Correction we LOSE at QPR this weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  45. the worry for me is i dont think sturridge or ince would have made a blind bet of difference tonight.....teams break and score against us almost at will....cole has just come on so we are saved

    ReplyDelete
  46. My biggest issue throughout this season is that we have no proper plan B. No, I don't mean hoof it.

    ReplyDelete
  47. In any form of employment if you do not do your job well / to an acceptable level your employer will fire you, At LFC If this trend of win a few games / lose a few Games continues then we would expect our board to do the right thing as we will be in mid table no mans land
Until then we need to back our team and hope by some miracle Mr Rodgers gets it right , but one thing we must not settle for is mediocrity like this on a regular basis

    ReplyDelete
  48. most of our players are so average or below how long till were just grateful to actually be in the premiership. were a million miles away from being good enough for even 5th or 6th.
one consistant player in suarez is far from good enough obviously.
lets hope rafa is free come the summer.
a new defence is needed to start with. the worst defence I can remember

    ReplyDelete
  49. FFS Rodgers has all the tactical acumen of a bowl of spaghetti.

Taking Suso off and leaving Shelvey on was a poor substitution.

Someone explain to me how we plan to break down defences when Rodgers strips the team of our most creative players.

We look clueless through the middle now.
Little cohesive threat, Stoke well on top.

    ReplyDelete
  50. thats my biggest concern.once a team figures us out and goes in front its guaranteed we will go on and lose...it must be a real easy tactical team talk in the the opposition dressing room because its rigid how we play win lose or draw...theres every chance we will get beat at qpr because there is a simple blueprint to beat us pressure the middle 3 and bully the centre defenders

    ReplyDelete
  51. Absolutely PITIFUL, that clueless MORON Rodgers will no doubt 'praise' the players for their 'fantastic effort' etc.

Maybe we could get Rafa, but the clueless moron owners will be overjoyed with Rodgers so they have to go too.

    Just shameful.

    ReplyDelete
  52. sports@nesn.com ; why dont you let them know we are totally fed up with crap football which is about not pasing forwards because we dont play with strikers
    Frankly enough is enough

    ReplyDelete
  53. we have so many center midfielders, and they're so so average. that performance has just hit home how poorly the club has been run since 2008. so much money has been wasted on overpriced average players. its depressing

    ReplyDelete
  54. This is the worst LFC team i can remember. We make everyone look like world beaters. Jol was right we weren't that good on the weekend, they were just really shit!

I can't wait for the usual BR BS that is bound to come in 10 minutes. A joke of a team, a joke of a manager and a joke of a football club. I would be happy with top 10 and that my friends, is very very sad

    ReplyDelete
  55. Rafa will be back hopefully come summer...how much more do we have to put up with.....enough of the "lets pretend Brendan is great and we'll finish second" BULLsh*t

    ReplyDelete
  56. Supporting Liverpool must surely be the most frustrating thing in the world

    ReplyDelete
  57. PATHETIC! i wish we had players who care enough to play like stoke did tonight. fought for every inch and ball and were superior. we got satisfied by being run over and kept passing neatly back when we shouldve attacked.

Rodgers is unable to have any impact on game. once its on, if we are to win we win if we are to lose we lose. he cant do anything to alter the outcome once the whistle is blown.

and totally puzzled why he kept playing shelvey who were utter Sh** today. and took off the only player who kept passing ball forward.

Brendan must hate players who have ambition to create and score.

other than that... "outstanding performance, lads were brilliant."

    ReplyDelete
  58. its a disgrace that a club like Liverpool lose two out of 3 games 3-1....Rogers is out of his depth ..or is this just another blip...he obviously cant motivate or organize the players.....the whole defense was awful from the git go but he never altered tactically ...they where pumping balls into the box yet we left a 6 foot 7 defender on the the bench....

    ReplyDelete
  59. Back to reality I am afraid, too many people believe the false dawns of the odd win against teams that don't turn up

    ReplyDelete
  60. its stoke rugby city fc come on i don't understand some of u like ya'll were just waiting for us to lose what great support... tough luck there boys forget it and move on next game is a must win and new goal keeper, defensive mid, right winger and striker needed badly

    ReplyDelete
  61. you cant support a team and be frustrated in loss?

    ReplyDelete
  62. So much for a for the "attacking fluidity against Fulham". Was this the same team which beat Fulham 4-0?

Our defence was utter rubbish. After tonight you wonder if there shouldn't be a wholesale in the summer starting with Skrtel and Reina. Does Agger deserve his new contract after a showing like that? Johnson, the best attacking fullback in the league clearly does not know how to defend either. The only positive performances were from Suarez and Gerrard.

Rodgers this Rodgers that. Just look at the players he has to pick from. He took over a squad filled full of failures. Just go look at our trophy cabinet over the last nine years which says it all.

    ReplyDelete
  63. true but all of the 'BR out' requests not needed it was a tough game and we lost i HATE stoke city and there anti football techniques its always tough playing them and there route one method sigh whatever yes at least we tried

    ReplyDelete
  64. Cant wait for tomorrow when Jamie gets to do the Breaking News bit on how the penalty was a dive?

yes suarez went down on purpose when blatantly fouled. he wouldnt have gotten the Penalty did he not choose to do so. which is a shame that refs force players to react when they should react.

i cant be too bothered when that happens. I hope we Sign Pepe from real madrid someday. then we can stop worrying about such minor things and jamie can have a series of "Players trying to end other players careers on purpose" makes such little things like going down when fouled seem trivial.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Right, games over.. Lost 3.1. Absolutely awful. So I'm going to say it. Rodgers is not the man to take us forward. Seriously, you don't have to be a football genius to know how Stoke was going to play. Lots of high balls into the box and be very physical. So Brendan could we not of played our massive central defender Coates with the hope that he could head a few of those long balls away from our goal. Don't get me wrong i rate Skrtel and Agger but in recent weeks I've watched a very average Carlton Cole, an average Benteke and in my opinion an awful Kenwyn Jones physically dominate them. I'm fed up of watching this team get bullied by so called inferior players. Rodgers is not setting his team up to compete with these teams. We are not Barcelona, we can't send the same team out every time and expect to play them off the park. We can though change our team round with the hope of competing with them. Sorry Mr Rodgers, I see nothing in you that suggests you are the man to take us back to the top. If anything we are going backwards....

    ReplyDelete
  66. stop being an apologist for BR. the team is much weaker than May 2012 and all because of his decisions

    ReplyDelete
  67. he has better players to pick from than villa and stoke and a bigger transfer kitty...if the defense is poor why is he buying sturridge and ince allegedly...buy a defender instead...hes already wasted 30 million whats another 20 on players we dont need...heres a fact he has a squad of internationals stoke dont ...rogers is out of his depth but you refuse to see it.......

    ReplyDelete
  68. Any physical team we will struggle with, Agger is too much of a pretty boy, no physical presence in midfield & lastly no forward to hold play up to give our pedestrian midfield time to support. Hence why Saurez lives alone in the penalty box.
So far Allen is proving to be a waste & is not adding to our squad, we'll need at least two more transfer markets to put things right. Sell Coates, we need a bruiser, Shawcross/ Chris Samba. I'd consider bringing Momo back, Allen is a luxury player! Sturridge is a start if we could add say Anelka on loan that would be great.

    ReplyDelete
  69. so what are you saying soon as we play a physical team its alright to lose.....they didn't out muscle us they outplayed us and won thats all that matters in football the result...its an absolute disgrace the players should pay for the tickets of the traveling fans

    ReplyDelete
  70. Possession : LFC 58% 42% Stoke. We had 11 shots on target and 7 corners. They had 7 on target and 5 corners yet we lost 3-1. I'm not even shocked anymore. That's the sad state of affairs. I think we will struggle again at QPR on this viewing. We lost 3-1 to villa who got stuffed 8-0! A 3-1 loss to stoke is never acceptable but they deserved more than that score line and that hurts me to admit that. They played for the team, the manager the fans. Chased down every blade of grass. Pressed aggressively in packs until we gave possession away. Our tactics if you can call it that is so one dimensional it's all entirely embarrassing. Gerrard's getting wrinkles and I don't think that's his age- it's the s**t the club is in. Our defence is shocking. We leak so many goals. Indecision throughout. We don't need one or two to "add the group". We need at least 5 first team players. Leaders and players with desire. Wing forwards capable of playing alongside Suarez. A tough tackling, athletic centre mid at the least. We need a defensive coach cos who ever is training that right now isn't doing a good job. Fed up now. I have tried to remain optimistic but it's fading fast. I understand its a transitional season but lfc needs real and major investment in top players.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Rodgers is no better than Kenny so far in fact hes worse, and his signings are as bad with the likes of allen and borini.
load of rubbish about players for the future, there wont be a future if we carry on with tight owners and a manager who cant handle the club.
only one man has been able to handle this club in a long time, and p#ss poor tight owners are afraid of him.
things are really bad I don't think most fans realise just how bad.
just hope in my life time I get to see another champions league night at anfield

    ReplyDelete
  72. in my opinion we need 2 center backs and a goalie...rogers cant buy another midfielder as he will more or less admitting allens a waste...i really dont like 4 3 3 it really puts you up against it at the back ...he wont buy bruisers as they dont fit the system and 4 33 is all about the system.....

    ReplyDelete
  73. Sorry BR to go !. Bring in some physically strong, fast players. What is the point of passing for the sake of passing. We do not have the players suitable for the system he is trying to play. No plan B or C. Sorry but Shelvey, Henderson, are not suitable for this type of football. Suso is too young and not pacey enough to play on the wing away from home. Downing was poor. We were far better under KD. All we required was two additional strikers last season, now we require 4 or 5 players. Possession football does not work in the premership, when games are played twice a week against physical teams that have pace. The players looked tired and clueless in breaking down the Stoke defence.

  74. RAFASdaysWEREtheGLORYdays10:26 pm, December 26, 2012

Trying to play total football like the Dutch in the 70s or barca of today is a joke.Playing it out of defence when 2 defenders are closed down by 5 Stoke players is actually pitiful to watch.Everytime a team comes up against us they all sit back and hit us on the break or just close our defenders down when we try to play Football were not capabl of.Iv seen all LFCs great triumphs so even though this has been caused by impatient unknowledgable fans and owners who dont deserve anything more than there getting since Rafa was booted out,its still embarressing yo watch.those fans who wanted Rafa out will be the same fans who still shout the loudest now as though they know the solution, well ill tell them fans something.YOU KNOW NOTHING.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Teams go to brittania to loose with dignity but we lost cos the team .Was a total joke .it's really embarrassing to be a Liverpool supporter..it's a f**king pity . going to meet man u fans need to walk to the office with my head in my a**

  76. Hello to everybody, my first post here, from longtime Lfc fan from Croatia.

Ultimate disgrace. One of worst performance that I seen in last few years. This team need major changes. Our midfield is crap. Soft and clueless. Last decade Liverpool have one of best midfielders in the world with guys like Hamman, Sissoko, Alonso, Mascherano.... And now we have bunch of balerinas....

Bench Gerrard, change formation to 3-5-2 or something like that, we need solutions.

4-3-3 don't work, Gerrard is lost in this formation and our midfield is easily overrun almost every game. We lost our hardness in centre of midfield. Our fullbacks stand too high on field to compensate lack of width and with this, our soft midfield is exposed.

Brandon Rodgers lost this game, with poor tactical choices. Why we didn't play 3-5-2 tonight? I'm not fan of 3-5-2, but for tonight game I think that 4-3-3 was mistake.

    Reina
    Skrtel, Coates, Agger,
    Johnson,Gerrard,Lucas,Henderson, Enrique
    Suso (Shelvey)
    Suarez

    ReplyDelete
  77. I think lfcrednick2 did not watch the game.....we were totally outplayed ...I think this is the least physical game stoke has ever played..we are just crap ...it's so terrible.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Shelvey has been poor for weeks now. His first touch is sh!te, and he drifts out of games. Suso was a bit timid, but at least his passing was tidy and accurate first half.
    Second half we did NOTHING.

    ReplyDelete
  79. It doesn't help when we don't even have anyone on either post. That's just basics.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Some interesting facts regarding our current plight after today's game

Until now Liverpool have never had fewer points after 19 games since the three-points a win was introduced in 1981 - meaning we are worse that we were under Hodgson

This was the first time Stoke scored more than two goals in a Premier League game for the first time in 44 games , yes Like the Villa game we have made them World beaters

    ReplyDelete
  81. Still "100%" though, Jay?

    ReplyDelete
  82. I will pick kenny Dalglish over .BR any day this was coates' game ....the midfield was shocking ....kit shitty , performance shitty ..lemme pack my Liverpool souvenirs of my shelves for a while the embarrassment is just too much...

    ReplyDelete
  83. Until when we will have to suffer for this, stoke for the first time this season scoring three against who? Us, now JONJO SHELVEY please man who told you to be a footballer please tell me who? Rodgers who told you to be a manager who? Just wtf your doing to this club, fsg as well get the fook out yanks just stop this, no one can handle this anymore, average teams humiliating us everytime they want and rodgers goes and signs strurrige hahaahahaha HEY MAN SIGN CLASS PLAYERS LOOK WE SUCK ITS ENOUGH

    ReplyDelete
  84. What I'm sick of is all this "work in progress" bollocks. What a fncking smokescreen. How can a team packed with Internationals be a work in progress? It just needed a bit of tuning, but the ego got the better of him and he's gone and done a Souness....

    ReplyDelete
  85. shelvey would not get in any top 10 team. What does Rodgers see in him? He is clumsy, terrible first touch, awkward running, poor decision making and also very slow.

    ReplyDelete
  86. He took over a squad which finished above swansea ..stoke..and spent 30million+ to improve....yet they are in better shape than us.

He has signed Sahin on a season loan at 100k per week...not worked out
    Borini ..12million ..not worked out
    Allen...15million...not worked out
Assaidi ..3million and can't even make the bench

will sign sturidge for 12million and to me another wrong signing...

Rodgers is at fault all day long...he will make sure we are a midtable team once he's finished

the quicker he goes and Rafa comes...the better

    ReplyDelete
  87. Naaaaaaaa tommy I don't agree ..defence under KD was better I think we were the fourth best defence last season ..if am right.

    ReplyDelete
  88. I'd rather watch a team that work their bollocks off for each other, than our ladyboys. They aren't "anti-football" just 'pro team ethic', which should be commended.
I don't hate Stoke. I do however despise the more moronic, inbred elements of their support. And their manager.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Kenny took a side there last season and BATTERED them. But we were robbed by a Walters dive and pen.

    ReplyDelete
  90. I think he's more likely to focus on the heinous assault on Begovic, which could have resulted in a severe bruise, or even skin abrasion.
    After all, he has 'form'......

    ReplyDelete
  91. youre right and we had 9 more points this time last year, but there were no January signings and our second half of the season was terrible. we were still inconsistent. but yes better than this season. gone backwards yet again.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Am compiling some facts on y KD has been the best manager for us in the past three years ...we will be lucky to end 10th dis season ...am putting my lfc stuffs in my truck for a while..it's embarrassing .

    ReplyDelete
  93. hes also very slow to shoot, hes lost good scoring chances by taking an extra second, coupled with his touch he wastes so many opportunities

    ReplyDelete
  94. We want to play football but there are only about 7 other teams interested Spurs, Chelsea, Arsenal, Man City, Man U, Swansea and Wigan all the other 12 teams you need players who can mix it up sorry to say but someone like a Carroll is needed in our squad a tall leggy powerful midfield player like Nzonzi, Diame or a Dembele and a more physical centre half Agger and Skrtel need to come off their diets they look light weight.
Our footballers need some protection in these games!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  95. reina again proved what a piss poor keeper this man is .2nd goal akeeper sets up his defence. he was little boy lost in his own 6 yard box no defenders on the posts he was nowere near the cross result goal .3rd goal a little dink no power result goal sell this over rated man asap .this brings me onto br. football at stoke is a mans game son .1st name on the team sheet should have been carra u and your tic tac football should dis appear like u. we have gone backwards from last season .kenny should have been given another season then handed over to steve clarke. fsg u have alot to answer 4 sell up and f2ck off and take rodgers with u .any manager would have sussed out agger was havin a tough time with k jones and swopped and put skirtel on him a bit more bite and a bigger presence no not br. u are well and truely out of you depth as manager of LFC

    ReplyDelete
  96. Shelvey looks lost at the moment he keeps being moved from one position to another is it any surprise he his suffering? He has played up front, on the right, on the left and midfield! Halted any early promise he was showing he needs to be attacking from midfield and not used in the front 3.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Rafa aint coming back. How many times do you need to be told this plain and simple fact? You might as well go and support Chelsea and then follow him wherever he may go once Abramovich send him on his way at the end of the season.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Teams like Stoke work ethic looks good because like a lot of teams in the Premier League they have realised its easier for the opposition to have the ball and let them make mistakes like Villa the other week, the complete opposite of Rodgers thinking possession is great but we need to go forward with it.
Our can our players be lady boys if Stoke were having to work their bollocks off? Contradiction in terms i think?

    ReplyDelete
  99. It certainly is a shitty old way to finish Christmas....
    Anyone back at work tomorrow????

    ReplyDelete
  100. I think he'll go to Madrid.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Rodgers messes around with Shelvey to much, must have played every position going this season!

    ReplyDelete
  102. Not really.
They worked their bollocks off closing down, and covering for each other, sometimes doubling- or tripling-up on Suarez (our only threat). They have to work their bollocks off because they recognise that they are not the most talented players in the league, so need to compensate with effort and sheer will to win.
Our players shit themselves under pressure, shirked challenges, and generally minced around the pitch.

  103. tell that to jimmy case. tommy smith. souness. ron yeats gerry byrne thats what i was brought up on . are u havin a laugh. i expect every man to do his duty .when there on 100k aweek. not cos its fuckin stoke on a cold boxing nite .

    ReplyDelete
  104. i Agree ...but that comes down to a manager who dosent know the best positions for his players ....whats funny is shelvey is poor but Allen is worse and cost 15m....jay spearing would suit the system better thats how bad the situation is......

    ReplyDelete
  105. reina is fuckin crap as proved again 2 nite the only protection he needs is factor 10 when hes back in spain asap

    ReplyDelete
  106. Apart from one good ball to Suarez, don't know what the point of Suso was out there. Not been a fan of his performances this season and it was obvious from the off that he isn't ready to start against the likes of Stoke. Not ready, nowhere ready, despite the potential but maybe that says something about the quality and depth of the squad too, that we are using a talented but raw young player so much.

He wasn't the biggest problem out there, not even near I admit, so I apologise if I come across as picking on him. The team in general, in terms of lack of plan B, as well as the back five being a shambles. Those were the two big things. Not for the first time this season. Rodgers, when it is clear the team can't stamp their normal style of play on the game, you have rarely looked like coming up with alternatives. We aren't even near Arsenal's level of quality (i.e. despite the lack of success, Wenger stuck to the faith in young players) to even justify such stubborn and consistent belief in the plan A style. We simply are not good enough to carry on with just the one style. Rodgers has got to show some flexibility in his tactics.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Funnily enough 3 of the defenders and the keeper were signed by Rafa. Nice(!)

    ReplyDelete
  108. for fucks sake shelvey is 20 years of age and the least of our problems we have a fuckin goalkeeper who is the worst in the epl and a manager who is out of his depth and we play tic tac 5 a side football in our own half on the managers say so . the buck stops with the manager .he should be nowere near anfield like fsg . just wish they would both f3ck off . kenny ur were shit on from a great height wish you were still in charge like 70 per cent of reds still do why not take a poll jk

    ReplyDelete
  109. Still doesn't change the fact we have a championship manager at our club and their are people who are deluded enough to think we have the new Pep Guardiola

    ReplyDelete
  110. kenny please book a cruise!!!! then wait for the SOS cos we are just about to get in the life boats with this fella in charge. bring back the king asap

    ReplyDelete
  112. You forgot joke of a supporter

    ReplyDelete
  113. i think there are bigger problems than havin a pop at jk . we are in serious shit with rodgers . these 5 a side tactics in our own half. etc etc no plan b . a goalie that dont make saves . one forward. a new boy on the block thats on 50k a week and has no end product.the way andy carroll who was on fire at the end of the season was treated . yes we have bigger fish to fry . than havin a pop. why is brenda rodgers manager of LFC????

  114. RAFASdaysWEREtheGLORYdays1:22 am, December 27, 2012

And funnily enough when Rafa was manager and those players played we used to have the best defensive record in the premiership,Reina won 3 golden gloves more than any other keeper in the history of the prem.So coming on here with your flippant remarks without thinking through your answer isnt showing you in a good light.

    ReplyDelete
  121. I try my best to be positive but ASTON VILLA's results since beating us makes their win look even more ridiculous and another loss despite STOKE being a hard place to win, makes it very hard to be optimistic.Last season SKRTEL looked like the big bully in the PL playground but now he performs like a clumsy nerd that makes mistakes and gets picked on along with AGGER by weaker players.
STEVEN GERRARD has one good game against FULHAM and after BR is talking about a contract extension. What about the 20 plus, below average games he's put in this season? He's 33 in May has 18 months left on his current contract and has lost his mojo. This is another example of how retarded we are when it comes to decision making.
I thought LUCAS would give the team better balance by protecting the back four. But since he was introduced back into the side that has coincided with us starting to leak even more goals than before.
After being linked with a plethora of quality players i was optimistic we'd make a couple of top signings.I was thinking FSG might back their man after admitting to a big mistake during the summer window. For some strange reason our managers seem to be fixated with average British players that have so far brought us mid table mediocrity, expensive flops clogging up our squad and a cup at the bottom of every clubs trophy wish list.
FSG is destroying expectations and our elite football club status with poor leadership and is turning us into a laughing stock.
CHELSEA despite winning the CL looked like a average side that would struggle this year. They went out signed 3 top players and fixed the problems they could see on the horizon. We needed to show the same ambition, we didn't and now we're rotting in mid table getting beat by relegation fodder and football clubs that field rugby players in their side.
The frustrating thing is that this league is so poor it wouldn't take much money to see LFC flying high again. But we have owners who want to keep their pockets fat and prefer the organic growth model, which will take years to deliver.
When SUAREZ leaves for a club with ambition in the summer and we replace him with DANNY GRAHAM for 40m or someone of similar ability, unlike other top players in the past that have left us I will completely understand and wish him the best.

    ReplyDelete
  122. what stoke did was try to force us into errors thats what long balls do and liverpool did try we tried to come back into the game but idk yes i don't want to think of this game anymore next game please

    ReplyDelete
  123. why so negative? when i said last week not to get your expectations to high as fulham have a woeful away record , you were telling me about how they won last year at anfield.
we are all LFC supporters and our team just does not have enough talent to play 4-3-3. and if DS and TI are our jan signings.....please continue to curb your expectations. so far i have not been impressed by the way BR has managed our club......its interesting to see how a blue part of london is starting to do well under a decent manager!;-)

    ReplyDelete
  124. or tika taka is great when you have players like iniesta xavi and some unknown player like messi.....we were more like chicken tika!! btw i was never for having a young manger with no achievements so far. but i am keen for him to get a chance, but most fans can see we cant play 4 3 3 so please br stop using it!

    ReplyDelete
  125. Who said that we have the next Guardiola? It is you who is deluded hoping that Rafa is coming back when the signs are clearer than the blue sky that he will never return.

Like the way you cannot comment when we win. You failed to leave one comment from the Fulham match and you only show yourself when we lose or draw. Some fan you are.

If Shankly still had to be alive and see how knee jerk the fans are nowadays he would show them exactly where the door is.

    In Shankly's own words...

"If you can't support us when we draw or lose, don't support us when we win".

Rafa is waiting for you mate, run along now.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Yes but Chelsea have been a winning team for years. They have a squad that is capable of winning the league. If Rafa cannot win the league this season with the players he has at his disposal then I would hate to know what will happen if he had to take charge of the current LFC squad.

Liverpool have won one trophy in 9 years and Liverpool have not won the League for 22 years.

    Spot the difference?

    ReplyDelete
  127. Well that worked out well didn't it? I wonder what Stewart Downing has to say about that, seeing as he couldn't wait to run off his big mouth after the Fulham game.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Picking up Mourinho's cast offs like the quiet friend in a disco...

    ReplyDelete
  129. BR out! What a load of crap AGAIN. I can't understand why we cut so much slack for him. He claimed his brand of football needs time but how long are we going to give him when we can't even play against WBA, Stoke or Villa? Ppl keep thinking abt Barca or Arsenal passing football but fyi Barca had never finished worse than 6 since 2000 and Arsenal had never finshed worse than 5 since Arsene arrived. It is one thing to have a vision but totally another to have the ability to arrive at the vision. We have set records of the worst kind since he took over and all we got are 6 esp of his talks in the documentary...i'm sick in my stomach just recalling all the bollocks he said...sounds just like my high school teacher who can't kick a ball but thinks he is Fergie reborned.

    ReplyDelete
  130. mate it's not fair to refer to yourself like that

    ReplyDelete
  131. Gutted...again, i see the mighty villa have let in 12 goals without reply since humiliating us, we make teams that are shite look world beaters, heres hopin for a better 2013

    ReplyDelete
  132. Dude, Istanbul was 7 years ago. We won the FA cup in 2006 - 6 years ago and Carling Cup last season.
Still, I get your point but Chelseas have spent a hell of a lot of money to win what they have.

    ReplyDelete
  133. So, by your own quoting of stats you come to the conclusion that we need a new defender, Please explain?

Man Utd conceded 3 goals at home yesterday. They scored 4. They have 4 strikers who could walk into any team. We have 1. Utd have conceded 28 goals this season, we've shipped 26. They've scored 48, we've scored 28.
Again, tell me how we need another defender?

Rogers philosophy is quite simple: more possession = more chances = more goals. So far this season, we've been getting the first two parts right, all we need now is to convert the chances - like the scum do!
I agree with the combative midfielder part, Alonso would be ideal for me, plus he loves the club.
Signing Sturridge as soon as the window opens is a master stroke, it will give Brendan time to assess if we need anything else - unlike signing Carroll at ten to midnight on closing day!

    ReplyDelete
  134. what do you mean want to play football,..there is no right or wrong way to play football ..the point of football is to score more goals than your opponent period, fullstop.ditto

    ReplyDelete
  135. mark your argument is flawed having possession in the final 3rd will get you more goals...having possession in your own half leads to you making mistakes and conceding goals

    ReplyDelete
  136. LoL ...agree totally Bob you cant blame young players they should be developed ( played in games which suit them etc )Ive been saying for a while that rogers is out of his depth, the game yesterday would have suited carroll to the ground but we would sooner pass it around ( accident waiting to happen ) in our own half....Rogers is a bookworm manager who would do great on a play station ....but real life is a lot different...ps villa have conceded 12 in two games since thrashing us ...where in big trouble ROGER OVER AND HOPEFULLY OUT

    ReplyDelete
  137. suso is a young kid who has just got into the team he should be getting shielded.....when you play away at stoke the manager should have picked a team to suit but rogers cant do that as hes inept ....3 5 2 with carroll up front and carra and coates and skirtel at the back would have been more suitable

    ReplyDelete
  138. Shelvey was the worst player on the pitch by a mile with the worst attitude and stays on for the whole game, Pulis didnt need to do much to win.

    ReplyDelete
  139. We don't need new defenders, we need a defensive coach who knows what he is doing. We only have Suarez upfront so we have to get the defensive aspect of our game right because Suarez can't carry us for 38 games.

    ReplyDelete
  140. Was thinking the same, where is Kyriacos when we need him!

    ReplyDelete
  141. In fairness to JK you just want a poll to rub it in his face after a bad result. I would vote for Kenny in that poll but what good will that do? Nothing good can come from that, and it doesn't put KD or someone else in charge.

    ReplyDelete
  142. We didn't always have the best defensive record under Rafa but my post didn't concern that, so that is irrelevant. All I said was 4 of the back five were his players as well as the sarcastic nice. I didn't say anything more. I didn't go into detail about why there was a negative tone behind it. You automatically made assumptions and unsurprisingly reacted like a scorned woman over something Rafa-related. You read more into the reply than what was said/implied by me. I did not say or imply clearly that we didn't have a good defensive record or Reina didn't have a good record under him. So please, for you to tell me to think before posting is a joke, when you don't do it yourself. I'll hand over the bad 'light' to you. Next time, instead of reacting without thinking, ask me to explain/expand on what I meant behind my fleeting remark.

    ReplyDelete
  143. shelvey is 20 years old and has played in several positions so far..if hes having a bad game its up to the manager to bring him off he cant sub himself

    ReplyDelete
  144. if we lose at qpr ( every chance we will ) FSG may well give rogers a vote of confidence....the fat lady is not only singing shes dancing and doing a fu*king juggling act

    ReplyDelete
  145. Probably the one game in the season where I would have said, come rain or shine, don't play Suso. Just not ready for a team like that, a young raw player of his type.

    ReplyDelete
  146. it sends a message that the fans are not gonna put up with sh8t.....Rogers is a mediocre manager whos swallowed a dictionary....180 page dossier on football ....that says it all ....hes over complicating a very simple game ....did you see the game...no one knows what there doing ....the players, goalie ,manager its laughable completely outplayed ( not out muscled ) outplayed by stoke ...i would have the the academy or under 21 coach in charge before this dolt

    ReplyDelete
  147. one thing missin from that line up? kenny in charge

    ReplyDelete
  148. Any manager of note would be wary of singing his teams praises so early in the season with such an average team.

An outcry of 2nd place ?!?

    Laughable!

LFC quite frankly need to fire their entire scouting network and re-instate a director of football as their managers over the last 20 years have consistently bought average and un-inventive, non-creative, passengers who have never stood the test of time nor quality.

We are still showing the same mistakes in the transfer windows!

And for those who say 'We are not in the Champions League and cant get the best players', I call bull-sh1t on that!

Let Swansea lead the way and flag case in point; Michu for 2 mil.

LFC are headed for mediocrity and a swift slap in the face by REALITY. Change or become an dusty old relic!

    ReplyDelete
  149. The quicker he's out the door, the better!

Reina is past the point of use.

    ReplyDelete
  152. Rubbish comeback mate.

Joke manager, team etc, that's your opinion, fair enough

But joke club? No way can I accept that just cos we're losing games we should win.

    Like I said, joke supporter

    ReplyDelete
  153. In this case, incorrect, Rafa is a Madridista. Also, i had a look at Chelsea fan sites and Im surprised that he is indeed starting to win them over, theyre very, very impressed so far with what he's done. I dont know abt other madridistas, but I for one, wud love to have him here, If Mourinho goes of course

    ReplyDelete
  154. When you lose the ball- RUN. Towards the ball, towards your position- I don't care, but RUN for fcuk sake! Even my girlfriend noticed that the other side looks more eager to get the ball. RUUUN!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  155. Yes, that's the spirit! fcuk off!

    ReplyDelete
  156. Go back outside, you know?

    ReplyDelete
  157. Yes, for Shelvey who looks tired- this game and the one before. But no, he knows better...

    ReplyDelete
  158. Everton also use Fellanini has a battering ram like against Man U balls constantly being thrown into the box mixing up their approach to games.

    ReplyDelete
  159. Actually Liverpool there is a right way called Pass and Move when it comes to playing football for Liverpool! But football has moved on you need a team that can play defensive, counter attacking and attacking football because of the mixture of teams in the Premier League. That is what I was pointing out we need other players to mix up our play to score more goals!

    ReplyDelete
  160. While I agree, things just arent working right now, I still think Br needs the Jan window, before we can judge. Some times we play well, and just lack the goals. I do think the system leads to us letting in a lot of goals, but maybe if we scored more first, we could then sit back a bit more, and so the goals wont be shipped in so much. Personally I want to see how Sturridge gets on, and if Ince comes in, how this changes us. I think it would be unfair to judge or get rid of BR before this, as we arent seeing his true team. Once they have come in, if it still doesn`t work then I think it is fair to say, thanks but sorry. If getting in more goal scorers means we score more, maybe the pressure wont be on us so much, and we can keep more clean sheets.

I do think with the group we have a different system would actually get us more wins, and move us up the table, however as a long term project maybe we need this bad period to get the team playing a different kind of football, and make us a winning team.

    ReplyDelete
  161. granted for that game yes, but over this season one of the biggest differences for me has been that fact dispite being useless we all seemed to be putting in 100% effort. So many times last season it drove me mad watching our players look like the England team and not want to be there.

    ReplyDelete
  162. Very Very true. Shelvey aint done too bad lately, but everyone played poor yest, well most players anyway, so I think it aint fair to single him out like some are.

    ReplyDelete
  163. Agreed. That was something I have thought myself, at the start of the season we shipped in a lot of goals due to doing to many passes in our own half. Eventually you will make a bad pass, and then that gifts the other team a goal. I do get the idea of keeping the ball means the other team cant score, but this only works if your team is perfect, and no one on this planet is. I think we need more of a mix. Reina for example was great at how quick he used to get the ball out, we scored loads of goals from his inch perfect long kicks and throws, we have lost that part of our game now. Possession in the final third also only works if its got a purpose. Otherwise all you do is give the other team time to get back.

I would let the defenders defend more, and only play the pass game when it is safe, not all the time when under pressure.

    ReplyDelete
  164. Vs West Brom- slower, vs Villa didn't watch, and yesterday slower. Hundred percent EVERY game. One halftime of not putting 100% and you are benched, two and you are benched for a month. Enrique can do it, Suarez can do it, but Gerrard and Downing can't?!? I am a bit pi$$ed off, but still...
And one shhh towards the Kop and you never ever again play for this club!

    ReplyDelete
  165. Stoke have just copied Gerard Houllier's two banks of 4 that press the other team into mistakes the difference is instead of having 1 Heskey they play with 2 to batter their way through teams. Because we only have one way of playing and only one style of player we were shown up our passing was not up to scratch but our players weren't strong enough to hold Stoke off.

    ReplyDelete
  166. to be fair to the Carroll signing. Torres stitched us up, It is possible as the owners were new, they thought after getting such a large sum of cash in, and being aware us fans would go mental if we didn`t sign someone to replace him, they thought they had to do a deal to stop us lot moaning about "yanks" only being here for the money. At the time there was a massive hatred for American owners, they had to show they were here for football not cash. Can you imagine the out cry if we had sold Torres and brought no one on that day???

    ReplyDelete
  167. Its the system not the players.

    ReplyDelete
  168. With now nearly to 20 games, LFC still showing unconsistant result of games. Why? Maybe they don't have many option to let only best talent can keep playing for every week.LFC still like to using the players below the best like Downing, Henderson, Joe Cole, Lucas.Others players as Coates, Pacheco and Assaidi never been using very well. They have big potential but why B, Rodgers cannot see it.Lucas have small size pysical and not good when facing team who like playing rugby style.Suso, Sterling and Shelvey still never put the goal. Why? It is about quality the players cannot meet our expectation.Yo yo....Owner of LFC please do not too STINGY about investment for high quality players.STOP YOUR EXPERIMENT AND SOLD THE CLUBS TO THE RIGHT PERSON IF YOU NEVER EXCITED ABOUT LFC AGAIN.......YNWA.

what games have you been watching in that time?
    david james? etc

    ReplyDelete
  170. Agreed Gerrard has been the white elephant in the room all season.

    ReplyDelete
  171. So what were you trying to say because it did seem like a snide remark from here?

    ReplyDelete
  172. two things mate gerrard inst the last line of defence and aleast david james tried to command his box he was prone to the odd rush of blood but was only 21 and young for a keeper. reina is 30 and should be in his prime ,but sadley is past his sell by date.james was 6ft 5 and looked like a keeper .reina is to squat and it looks like we have uncle festa between the sticks

  173. Is anyone free next Monday night to drive Joe Cole's useless midget arse to the airport on the stroke of midnight? Surely to Christ he'll be the first tw@ out the door when the window opens. Absolutely pointless bench-warmer - if we're going to lose anyway, we might as well give a reserve kid some experience instead of wheeling that useless bag of tits out to lumber around aimlessly for 20 minutes.

Nice bloke though, by all accounts...

    ReplyDelete
  174. 'it did seem like a snide remark from here'

It was kind of a snide remark. I haven't denied that. If you had read the reply above from start to finish, I said 'there was a negative tone behind it' as well as 'sarcastic nice', which implies the snide-like tone. 'It' being the initial reply I made. As I have made clear already in the post above, it is also 'a snide remark from here' too from me, somewhat.

To put it simply, I made a remark but I didn't go into the 'whys' behind it, yet the fella above made assumptions in relation to the 'whys' behind my initial post. Urgh, this is getting all so repetitive and maybe not what you asked for (although it does seem like that to a certain extent with the 'it did seem like a snide remark from here' bit)

To conclude for you, it was a snide/flippant/fleeting/throwaway remark without the 'whys'.

Do I care to go into the 'whys' behind the remark? After all this drama over a little remark (admittedly I played a part too with my ambiguity with the initial post) and sung the same tune about Rafa's reign in the past (me and him both, as I've come across his nauseating (to me anyway) Rafa-ite posts before), I can't be ar$ed going further, even if you pull me up in front of a liverpool-kop tribunal over it(!) ;). If he had asked as to what I meant, instead of making assumptions, it would have been a different story. So I'll leave it there, this time I hope I stick to it.

    ReplyDelete
  175. I'll be honest, I still have no clue as to what you're trying to achieve. I took it from your post that you were saying that as 3 of the 4 defenders were Rafa signings he deserves some blame for yesterday's defensively display. Although I don't believe that the Liverpool management pool consists of only Rafa, Rodgers and Kenny so I don't see why the conversation on Rodgers is limited to this aspect, I'm just trying to follow your argument. Not sure why you've jumped down this guy's throat simply because he's quite reasonably attempted to answer your admittedly snide comment. I don't know you two's history but just in the interest of argument it would be cool to read a reasonable debate on what appears to be your point. I myself was previously against a Rafa return. I just wanted a clean break but I'm starting to look back at his tenure and current turnaround at Chelsea and wondering whether we would actually be better off with him. I also wondered in the summer whether Swansea got a better deal with Laudrup in charge and at the risk of sounding fickle I could have been right.

    ReplyDelete
  176. Yep, the defensive coach works on the system....

    ReplyDelete
  177. lol, funny, but still don't agree.
how many seasons did reina get the golden gloves?
    james ?
    age?
    joe hart!!!

    ReplyDelete
  178. if sktrel and agger cant find any consistency with all the time they have played in the prem then no coach can change them. no coach can really coach commitment can they.

    ReplyDelete
  179. that doesn't sound like originalchan normally hes the victim !!!!
practice what you preach mr (chan)

    ReplyDelete
  180. sinse playing him out of position all of a sudden hes not had the best time. but hes a top young player.
least he looks to go forward

    ReplyDelete
  181. That's a very fair point to be honest, but good players don't turn poor overnight. We have been a lot tighter defensively under different regimes, whilst scoring enough offensively.....

    ReplyDelete
  182. Best defence when Reina had Carragher and Hypia in front of him! Most teams didn't even get a chance to shoot at Reina!

    ReplyDelete
  183. Strange stat from yesterday was that Agger and Skrtel made 1 tackle won by Agger! Jones and Walters needed dominating and our 2 central defenders didn't even put any tackles in on them!

    ReplyDelete
  184. Are you sure about that? The system we played last night, as stated above, saw us create more chances than Stoke.

The players, which you're saying are ok, failed to score from these chances.

Sturridge will score goals: you can quote me on that too. I've been saying on this site for a while now that we need a clinical finisher, there's no bones about it/ Hell, why do you think the Mancs are 7 points clear?

    ReplyDelete
  185. If you haven't already done so, read the updated Dalglish book. In it he states that Torres asked to leave and Comolli asked if he wanted Andy Carroll. The end of that deal saw LFC make £15m profit and get an up and coming striker, one that Spurs had seen bids of £20m+ rejected.

  186. Sorry, mate, but who is going to score the goals we need then?

Suarez, Sturridge, Borini, Morgan - there's the pick for goal scorers until the end of the season. The Mancs most clinical striker can't get a regular start and they're looking at another one.

As much as I can't stand the old bastard, Fergie always gets decent goal scorers; Rodgers should at least take that leaf out of his book.
