Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has followed through on his vow to rest Joe Allen and Raheem Sterling by leaving both players on the bench for this afternoon's must-win game against Fulham at Anfield.
Whether that's good news or bad news remains to be seen, but the unambiguously bad news is that Stewart Downing continues to get a place in the starting line-up.
FULL TEAM: Reina, Johnson, Skrtel, Agger, Enrique, Lucas, Gerrard, Shelvey, Suso, Suarez, Downing.
SUBS: Jones, Carragher, Wisdom, Henderson, Sahin, Sterling, Allen.
It's good to see Suso back in the first team, and Enrique also makes a return after a injury.
1-0
2-0
3-0
4-0
Brendan Rodgers' verdict:
"We performed as well as that in a lot of the games to be honest, but never always got the result. Today we were outstanding in every element of our game. Our pressing was outstanding, which gave us the foundation to go an play, and some of our goals were outstanding. I knew that we would get a reaction today, and they knew they had to make up for the disappointment of last week"
I believe the key word here is outstanding'. Martin Skrtel added:
"We knew before the game it was going to be hard, and we’re happy to score four goals and win the game. It’s not very often I score goals so I’m, happy for every single one".
Man of the match Stewart Downing said:
"It's more about the overall performance. We let ourselves down against Villa, and the manager said we have to bounce back, and I thought we did it in style. Earlier in the season, we were a bit nervy at home, but now we've improved on that"

Oh noo not shelvey again, honestly I cant stand him, just hope he wont ruin my day yet again, bad decision leaving sterling out
ReplyDelete/why is it bad news Downing is playing?
ReplyDeleteWere is assaidi? He is so much better than downing!
ReplyDeleteBecause he adds nothing to the team. Attack: Hasn't scored/created a league goal in 18 months. Defence: positionally suspect.
ReplyDeleteAccording to Rodgers, he's injured.
ReplyDeleteDowning has been ok this season. If your paying a playerhis wages then we should use them, no point wasting it.
ReplyDeletewhy dont we play sahin for shelvey and use sheley as a substitute ?
ReplyDeletesahin is more the allen style rodgers loves so much. shelves is more the steven gerrard in my view.. i expected suso and downing, but i would like to see wisdom more often- with johnson on the left and enrique on the wing
What I find odd, is downing with enrique. I don`t know if anyone got to watch the 1 hour 30mins fans interviews with BR, but he went into detail why playing Downing on the left of the front three with Enrique behind just doesn`t work. He went over it lots, it all made sense, showing how any left winger will get in the way of Enrique when he bolts forward, and a left winger hugs the wing, as thats natural for them, thus taking up the space ahead of the left back, he then showed how someone how prefers to cut inside on the left wing, gives the left back lots of space to fill. So unless he is play Downing at LB and Enrique on the left side of the front three, he seems to have gone against everything he said in his interview. I understand Sterling needs a rest, and agree with this.
ReplyDeleteHow come he hasn't played any of the other premier league games, I don't think he's been injured that long?
ReplyDeleteI actually think Shelvey has been playing really well this season, and think he is starting to come into his own. Sterling can`t play every game, he is only just 18, his body is growing. Would you prefer he played Sterling every game till his body gives up, and we lose him as a player for most of the rest of his career just like Owen???
ReplyDeleteSuso Suarez and Enrique up front then. Shelvey and Gerrard together in midfield? Would prefer Hendo or Sahin in there.
ReplyDeletemaybe because he just doesn`t do much? for one reason or another, he just hasn`t been able to perform since signing for us, so I would hazard a guess that is why it is bad news if he is playing!
ReplyDeletePrediction Liverpool Nil 0 Fulham 0, or a score draw at best, countless chances created, all wasted, we will also be robbed of a blatant penalty.
ReplyDeleteRodgers OUTTTTTTT!!
FSG OUTTTTT!!!
He had a ankle injury last I heard and wasn`t fit enough yet.
ReplyDeleteI think he was just fitting in, then got injuried, but also maybe in training he isn`t that good?
ReplyDeleteOkay Thank you.
ReplyDeleteAlso if you saw the interview, anyone else think, he will def go for Sturridge? He talked a lot about the need for a goal scorer, who just craves scoring, who doesn`t want to do anything but score, and who will run in behind the spaces to be near the goal front to pick up knock downs by the keeper, and passes through? When he was talking he was describing Sturridge to a T.
ReplyDeleteGreat news way I see it. And I think that Downing will surprise us with an assist... And Sterling coming in, trying to prove he is better- wining combination...
ReplyDeleteGive him time. Lets see what he comes up with in the Jan window, see if his signings make the difference. I have to admit when I hear BR talk, he makes complete sense, so he see`s the same things we see that need fixing, so I`m guessing he is trying to. Which for me is great, as under previous managers I always felt they couldn`t see the problems. He seems pretty tuned into what is needed to be done, so whoever he signs, be that some big name, or someone we hate, I personally wanna wait till after Jan to see if it works.
ReplyDeleteSpot on, about both.
ReplyDeleteOmy, how can you be serious? fSG have put in a lot of money, also Rodgers has only had one transfer window, give him time...
ReplyDeleteYeah I`m glad he is on the bench, as we have both agreed to in the past, I think for this season that would be the best place for him, to then come on as a sub, full of energy, able to cause havock to a tiring defensive line. I think he would do better, score more, and create more, which would boast his confidence as a player.
ReplyDeleteThanks Orme, For me Shelvey has been my pick of the season so far. Suaraz has been our best player, but I expected that, Shelvey I didn`t. Sterling has done well, but seems to drift in and out of games a bit, and doesn`t provide enough assists or goals. Shelvey though for me has been our best mid player, he looks strong, hungry and composed. I would always pick him first as our AM.
ReplyDeleteI'm not putting up with mediocrity any more, no other of the handful of true giant global clubs would have fans putting up with mediocrity and under-achievement, why are we?.
ReplyDeleteSpot on buddy. People have short memories huh? FSG have been great imo, they have made us so much more commerical (sponsorship deals) got rid of high wages players who weren`t doing much, basically sorted the books which were a mess, put in loads of money, and making it so we run on what we earn. I say well done FSG for being sensible, it is a refreshing change for a football club.
ReplyDeleteWhat would you suggest then? What is your grand plan to make us top four, or winners of the prem? I`m sure all fans want us to be the best, but surely you can see it wont happen easy, we are competing with teams who spend 400mil over a few years, pay double the wages we pay, and can balance the books by getting there brother to sponsor there stadium. I`m sure we are all fed up of mediocrity, but you need a plan, what is yours? Not just FSG out, BR out, thats not a plan, thats a start, who would you get in?
ReplyDeleteShelvey needs to stay calm and on his feet more. He's not bad when he's got his wits about him, but let him lose his cool and go to ground, and he's a liability.
ReplyDeleteBeef Stew needs to be sent packing in the transfer period. I wish he weren't playing today.
Whoop Whoop created a account Jam-Rock :-)
ReplyDeleteFirst off we need to accept the fact that BR is a clueless chancer, and that FSG are not the ones to take the club forward, they are the wrong owners, they obviously don't have the finances to compete, much like David Moores did not have a decade ago, theres no point even contemplating any of the other steps until these first issues are not accepted and dealt with, but id have a proven manager in there, probably from the continent, preferably one who doesn't think Stewart Downing is a left back.
ReplyDeleteI respect all your opinions, these are mine.
White list this account blud :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat do you make of the 130mil plus they have put in for transfers in two years? I know thats not a net amount, but that is like 75mil a year. We spent £35mil this summer, again I would think there is only a handful of owners in the world who would spend more. I don`t think it is a case of can they afford it, clearly they can, it is more about how it is spent
ReplyDeleteget in! nice hit from Srktel
ReplyDeletewhat a miss from Agger.
ReplyDeleteNice one. Will do :-)
ReplyDeleteCheers buddy :-)
ReplyDeleteWow, a Downing assist. A good one too.
ReplyDeletewhat you watching it on ESPN? or live streaming somewhere?
ReplyDeletestreaming
ReplyDeletenot sure the rules on links here, but any clues to what site, im having a nightmare finding it lol.
ReplyDeletesopcast - 'yes' channel but sometimes it doesn't work if you do it after kick off. use wiziwig site. I'll be editing this post in a few minutes ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks Can, Appreciated
ReplyDeleteAh, comfortable home game so far that we are winning so far. Been a while eh. Fulham have been pants and letting us build from the back so easily but good performance from us. Great movement from Suarez in the first half, creating bags of space for others to run into. Suso needs to sharpen up, when he gets in those positions.
ReplyDeleteA comfortable league game that we are winning. Been a while since we've had this kind of situation. Nice. Suso needs to sharpen up when he gets into those spaces.
ReplyDeletethe midfield looks a lot more mobile today.......great ball by downing for Gerrard to score ...
ReplyDeleteill be damned
ReplyDeleteGood first half, lets hope to continue it into the second half. Another goal would be great, as we need it for goal difference reasons. After todays games it`s amazing how many teams are on 30 points. Lets hope we can get the win, and make it only a 5 point gap, which isn`t the biggest.
ReplyDeleteeh are you watching the game. if so will you apologise
ReplyDeletesuso opens a lot of space with his movement for enrique to push up. i want to see sahin coming on for second 45 mins
ReplyDeletenot according to some
ReplyDeleteI agree about Shelvey but Sterling needs a rest
ReplyDeleteDon't expect Steyg to make anymore comments unless Fulham somehow win this match.
ReplyDeleteIn fact, do not expect any of the doom mongers to comment if we win...
To be fair, he is having a good game, but normally he doesn`t. The odd good game isn`t enough, if he can do this all the time, then I would be well chuffed. I don`t want any player to be bad, it only works against us, but it is fair to say downing has been poor in most games.
ReplyDeleteI don`t think those who didn`t want Downing, are saying he is playing badly today, just that history shows he has been.
ReplyDeleteim thunderstruck. what is up with downing?
ReplyDeletehaha, that is where you are wrong. I have seen many a doom monger still come on and complain even after we win lol
ReplyDeleteLovely goal from Downing.
ReplyDeleteMan of the Match so far.
hahahahaha Jamie! Downing has made you eat your own words
ReplyDeleteany person who had class would apologise
ReplyDeleteDowning MotM! Never thought I'd ever mention that!
ReplyDelete3-0 downing is flying. I take back my comment about not wanting him in the team today haha, egg and face lol
ReplyDeleteApologise for what? It took Downing 18 months to make any kind of meaningful contribution in the league. Today is the exception, not the rule.
ReplyDeleteOne goal, one assist..... unambiguously bad news!
ReplyDeleteDowning has been unlucky.... He made loads of chances last season we didn't put it away. This season he got goals in his game.... Done Brillant.
ReplyDeleteits called class . pal.something you lack
ReplyDeleteGive over. Prior to this game, Downing had done sweet FA for LFC in the league. there's nothing to apologise for. I didn't insult him, I stated facts. perhaps you should stop being so precious about it. Even after this game I still want the club to get rid asap. It's not about what a player does in one game; it's about what the player consistently brings to the team, and Downing is not a consistently good player.
ReplyDeleteHopefully, a Redknapp or a Pulis will be watching this, thinking about making a January bid.
So Downing has one effective league game in 18 months. Great! Give the guy a new 10 year contract!
ReplyDeleteThe only way I'll be eating my words is if I have a bowl of Alphabetti later on, but that 'aint happening because I only have spaghetti hoops in the cupboard.
Shop Window stuff from Downing maybe? alla Alsono in his last season?
ReplyDeleteAnd the fickle Downing revisionism begins. What next, Sean Dundee was actually a pretty good striker? :-)
ReplyDeleteOMG Will we get just one pen this year???
ReplyDeleteYou understand the concept of judging players on what they've done in the past, right? Just because Downing had a good game doesn't change his history. it was bad news today, and if he starts the next game it will - for me - be bad news again.
ReplyDeleteUnlucky? unlucky is the odd game, 18 months isn`t unlucky
ReplyDeleteI didn't used the word 'unambiguously'...you did! But many thanks for the patronising reply.
ReplyDeleteJaime, will you offer Downing any praise for today ? Bearing in mind I completely share your view about his tenure!
ReplyDeletedowning has been no worse than Gerard in his time a Liverpool ...but peoples opinion of him as with Henderson is blinkered ..Allen has nothing to show hes a 15m pound player but its never mentioned...well done downing thats 2 mom in succession for me and a goal and assist..this in any sane world would guarantee him a start next game WELL DONE THAT MAN
ReplyDeleteits called class pal/you aint got it
ReplyDeleteso pulis and rednqp know less than you
Yes, of course. I always praise players when they deserve it; those with selective eyesight just never acknowledge that.
ReplyDeleteWhat? We won 4-0?? Jason Carr & Chirag Vyas must be gutted...
ReplyDeleteGerrard has in general not been up to par this season, but he did ok last season, he scored 5 goals in 18 league apperances last season. This season he has already played 18 league games. So BR style for improving fitness and making injuries less is clearly working. Downing scored 0 goals in 36 league apperances last season. How is both them stats the same??? It isn`t blinkered. Henderson scored 2 goals in 37 league apperances. Granted they all play in different postions, so it isn`t just about goals, but as Gerrard and downing are both playing in scoring positions I would say it is fair to use them to compare.
ReplyDeletehahaha brilliant
ReplyDeleteLtown
ReplyDeleteAdd Steyg and Mali341 to your list too. :)
They won't murmur a word unless we draw or lose...
They can never come out and say well done if we win...
What exactly is there point in supporting Liverpool Football Club if they cannot support winning? Crazy isn't it?
The mind boggles when you support a club like LFC with the aim to see failure...
without allen starting we played better football, and actually kept possession. I would have preferred sahin to come on instead of Allen as sub. BTW fulham have a woeful away record.
ReplyDeleteyou understand the concept of playing form players irrespective of any prejudice... on a positive note im really glad to see suso in the team...on a negative note id like to have seen Morgan or yesil come on for last 15min
ReplyDeleteRe Downing can't we all just be happy OUR player scored and made great assist? Grow up please...
ReplyDeleteWhen we score on time, it is a different game, but Skrtel scoring(like that) was lucky- which we deserved, but still...
Skrtel played a wonderful game defending, Lucas attempted 4-5 great forward passes, Gerrard finally, Sterling's impact was huge, both Johnson and Enrique were excellent, Suso needs to be attacking midfielder, and Suarez NEEDS someone ahead of him.
the team is built around gerrard to a degree...he also takes the vast percentage of freekicks and penalties ..........listen the point im trying to make is plenty of other players haven't really performed but dont seem to get the same stick...i judge the players and manager game to game if you play well you should start if you dont you should be dropped..it really is a simple formula
ReplyDeleteI missed the freaking match today...!!! what happened today...!!!!
ReplyDeleteYou clearly have no clue what you are talking about.
ReplyDeleteWe only had 55.6% possession in this match.
The previous match against Villa we had over 70% possession with Allen on the pitch. Good luck next time when you want to take a swipe at Allen. :)
The difference today is that we converted our chances which has been a problem for quite some time now.
It does not matter if Fulham have a woeful away record, they beat us at Anfield last season didn't they?
Just be happy that we won. Why the negativity after our best win of the season?
You didn't miss much- they've let us score 4- but nothing to write home about-even Downing scored, so you know how bad we were...
ReplyDeleteGerrard has a history of doing the business for LFC. Downing does not, thus Gerrard gets more slack.
ReplyDeleteBecause it is more important to defend your point of view than us wining...
ReplyDeleteUnlucky for 45 games, wow, are you perhaps Downing's agent or relative. I like the player, he works for the team, but not contributing a goal or assist for 45 games is ridiculous. Unlucky, WOW
ReplyDeleteThat is what i am hoping. someone sees Downing and J.Cole, then decides that he can get the best out of them. Harry, don't fail me now.
ReplyDeleteif you feel there's room for sentiment in the modern game i respect that...me i feel when fans on low or moderate incomes buy Liverpool product ( in all categories ) the club has a duty to them to play the best team regardless of sentiment.....just to reiterate a point Jaimie im not particularly singling out Gerrard im just trying to say as a whole a lot of other players have underperformed but dont seem to get as much stick as downing
ReplyDeleteOh my god!!
ReplyDeleteIt was perfect game for Yesil to come in...
ReplyDeleteHonestly Suso needs to come on for the last 15-20 min of games, he is not effective out wide. He plays much better as an attack mid. and if that means coming of the bench, so what. Though I have to credit him for how hard he worked for the team today.
ReplyDeleteSuarez will have nobody ahead of him if we are going to stick to 4-3-3...
ReplyDeleteSuarez will always be the focal point of our attack. What we need is players who can contribute to goals just like today then our problems will be solved! Plain and simple.
I cannot believe it...!! am a quarter and a half down...and I don't believe downing scored...!!! I effing hope am dreaming..!! 4-0 at Anfield...wow just wow...!!
ReplyDeleteHighlights link please....the one that's given ain't working anymore...!!
ReplyDeleteHe can be on the wing. And it would work better.
ReplyDeleteLink plz...!!
ReplyDeletethe point raised by mfimfi is valid we look a better team without Allen period...i dont think Allen and Lucas can play together ..and Lucas is better than Allen period....all this talk of Possession is baloney passing the ball around in defense at 3 nil down is hardly a design for life....i think rogers only brought Allen on so he would have some of the kudos of the victory....if he needs a rest why not bring sahin or Henderson on so they can get game time. One other point is i feel your missing the point of a forum. 100% of liverpool fans will be happy but thats not to say that you cant give an opinion on how you would improve things.....
ReplyDeleteHe has scored 11 goals in the League this season.
ReplyDeleteDon't try to fix something that ain't broken.
Google?
ReplyDeleteI tried bro..!! Darn I missed a massive game..!! I will see a repeat telecast tomorrow on ESPN if available may be...!! am so happy..!! 3 wins in last 4 matches wow...!! YNWA>..!!
ReplyDeletesuso has the x factor though...you always get the feeling he is capable of genius.what suso needs is the ball played to his feet around the edge of the box so he can run at the back 4
ReplyDeleteI love the man, but consistency? Would be much easier with a number 9 ahead of him. if we had Llorente this season Luis would've scored 16, and assisted for 9.
ReplyDeleteWhen you put it like that-it makes sense, and I agree. But still think Allen has future here...
ReplyDeleteLucas is a defensive midfielder. Allen isn't so of course Lucas will be better at being a defensive midfielder. It does not take a rocket scientist to work that out.
ReplyDeleteDid Lucas start off his career with a bang when he joined LFC? You can answer that question yourself.
Does Allen need time to settle into the role which Rodgers bought him for? Absolutely because he had to play the role of a defensive midfielder while Lucas was out...
Go watch some of his videos on youtube of him playing for Swansea. Then you will see that he is not a defensive midfielder and that Rodgers diod not sign him to play that role either but had to cause there was nobody else who would have been able to fill in for Lucas while he was injured.
Morale of the story...
Lucas was young when he joined the club. majpority were on his back and he showed all of those who ridiculed him the finger. Give Allen time and he will be doing exactly the same thing to those who did not give Lucas a chance.
I repeat, allen is not a DEFENSIVE MIDFIELDER and needs a bit of time to settle into the role which Rodgers has planned for him. Capish?
Couldn't help- ain't that good with internet..
ReplyDeleteHe is only 9 away from 20 goals this season and there are another 20 matches to play.
ReplyDeleteIf he ends with 20 plus goals this season which is looking likely then I am sure you will change your mind?
He already has 6 assists according to Opta so like I say, don't fix something that isn't broken.
16 goals and 9 assists is better than 11 goals and 6 assists. not fixing- improving, and Luis can improve.
ReplyDeleteBut you do not see the point I am trying to make.
ReplyDeleteRodgers plays with three forwards. There is only one place for a 'striker'.
Suarez is occupying that place. Borini is a Striker. Did you ever see Borini before he got injured play down the middle with both Suarez and Borini in our front three? That tells you that Rodgers prefers Suarez in the middle.
Rodgers will not be signing another natural striker. Hence the reason why he is after players like Sturridge and Walcott who can play anywhere in the front three so it is very unlikely that we will see players like Huntelaar or Llorente signing for us.
Rodgers wants three players upfront who can play left, right, and center in our attack but Suarez will always be the focal point of our attack and that is not going to change anytime soon. Trust me on this.
Hey my friend, what you said makes perfect sense. I really think FSG is supportive enough since their took over and BR is doing fine. Fans here just have to face a fact that during our last few transfer windows, we were being kicked in the face, mainly by our own managers, or should I say ex-managers.
ReplyDeleteGet behind the team, BR and FSG! YNWA!
Allen is a good squad player but at 15m i want a bit more bang for my buck.
ReplyDeleteFSG have done okay but they took a gamble and lost! They then have had to cut the wage bill and spending! Locking the stable door after the horse has bolted! The club couldn't afford the spending in the first place.
ReplyDeleteThe plan they have put in place is sound but they got their fingers burnt going for the quick fix which takes more then one years spending to put a team into the top 4.
I was never one of those who ridiculed Lucas as he always gave 100% and never complained .....i feel Allen is also molded the same so i dont like having a pop at him...but if hes not a defensive player what is he as hes not an attacking player. either..i feel its just way to negative if Lucas and Allen play together...i really think you need to head back to the dictionary to find out what the definition of attack & defense is capish
ReplyDeleteIN BR WE TRUST!!! Brilliant game BR has my continued backing give the guy time we were complete class today aston villa was a needed reality check now our game is in tact did u see how much gerrard stepped up to the plate today that aston villa defeat was needed come on stoke city
ReplyDeletePlease look at the list of players bought by FSG and most importantly, the amount involved. You should blame KD and Comolli for making AC the 8th most expensive player on the planet at 35 mil pounds when the boy scored only 14 top-flight goals in his entire career. You can say that FSG is stupid enough to spend super silly money on unproven players but you can't say that they are lousy owner that gives little support to LFC. A gentle reminder, they can always keep the money from player sales and not obligated to pour them into the club again. Too many of us fans here talk about 'net spending' which is in my opinion, a senseless term.
ReplyDeleteSo why then make a daft comment like Lucas is better than Allen when both players are playing a different role in the team? If Allen was a defensive midfielder (which he is not) then you can compare apples with apples.
ReplyDeleteThree midfielders i.e Lucas as our defensive midfielder. Allen as our playmaker and Gerrard our attacking midfielder.
With your logic Lucas is also better than Gerrard forgetting that all three midfielders have different roles.
Dictionaries are long gone. You need to get up to date with technology my friend.
I do understand your point, and BR probably does think that way. I disagree. Sterling/Downing, Suarez and a number 9.
ReplyDeleteOr suarez and a No 9 in a 442.
ReplyDeleteWe are 8th. What position did we finish last season????? We are 8th even though the manager lost loads of players in the summer and never got that striker he was promised on the last day of the window.
ReplyDeleteWith new forwards coming in it will only be a matter of time till our dominance turns to goals and wins. I'm 100% behind this manager and love the way we play under him.
Well why don't you apply for the Liverpool job the next time it becomes available.
ReplyDeleteRodgers is clearly not going to use your tactics so whatever your ideas are mean nothing.
What I have just explained to you is the way things are. i am not making anything up.
I thought this site was about our opinions. Sorry...
ReplyDeleteI thought this site was about our opinions. Sorry...
ReplyDeleteOne person to blame for Carroll being at the club is Torres leaving! They went after Gomez first but because of an injury to Olic they wouldn't sell!
ReplyDeleteNet spend isn't important in business? 13 players left in the summer and only 4 came in! So the club can afford to spend £120 million with nothing coming back in the other way? So the £70 million from the sale of Torres, Meireles and Babel didn't come in handy for FSG then in their outlay then?????
Of course it is about opinion. You have given yours and I have given mine. We have both argued our points haven't we?
ReplyDeleteYes, but 'mine mean nothing'.
ReplyDeleteI somehow think it's a little more complicated than this 'play well this game and start next game' thing. All managers have their own agendas in the game. I really don't think Maxi, Kuyt and Bellamy played worse than AC, JH and SD last season, but looked at the number of games and starts between them and those few super-overpriced players bought by KD and Comolli.
ReplyDeleteI thought I saw many post and comments here whacking the hell out of Reina, Skrtel and even SG, so I don't think KD's recruits were being bashed unfairly here. Lastly, if we should start celebrating SD's first league goal and assist after 44 appearances, then our standard really dropped till Championship or League 1 standard.
70% possession and lose 3 1?????????????
ReplyDeleteOr 55.6% and win 4 0????????????
Poor argument for Allen their!!!!!!!
Not doing him many favours!
So it's only about right(yours) opinions. And what is your function in LFC?
ReplyDeletebut lucky goals all actually make a difference in your final standing in the league. Just think of all the times man utd have created their own luck
ReplyDeleteQuestion is what is Allen's position? He isn't a defensive he isn't attacking so far! I'm a bit confused by him!
ReplyDeleteGo read again i-d-i-o-t.
ReplyDeleteMfimfi said that we actually kept possession in this match without Allen so I told him that he was talking rubbish and proved him wrong with concrete facts from our match vs Villa.
Another example was when we beat Norwich 5-2. There we had 67.1% possession and Allen played in that match too so how does Mfimfi come to the conclusion that we kept possession without Allen in the team when clearly we keep more possession with him in the team?
Do you need me to explain in a different language?
Go read again guest.

I hope he comes good ..but at this moment he really isn't cutting it as a play maker ...a play maker controls the game dictates the tempo and sets up attacks all areas which Allen is failing on...
ReplyDeleteThat is just my opinion Orme.
ReplyDeleteYour opinion will mean nothing to Rodgers. Does that make it sound a bit better?
Off course, without those we will never be great again. My point was that we still don't have the game when it is 0-0 at 60th minute or when we are losing. But getting there I think...
ReplyDeleteNo, just boring.
ReplyDeleteTry sharing your 'Torres leaving last minute' theory with Arsene Wenger. Anelka-TH-Adebayor-RVP and Torres-AC is the difference between greatness and mediocrity in managers.
ReplyDeleteTo be more specific, what I'm talking about here is that player brought into the club should be judged on a case-by-case basis. Gomez not coming to the club does not make it perfectly legitimate to pay 35 mil pounds for an unproven young player, while making it sound fine backed by this 'last minute' crap. This twisted term, 'net spending', argued by a lot of fans here, is that we did not spend 35 mil pounds on AC since we got 50 mil pounds from Torres sale. If AC is worth 35 mil pounds, then Torres should at least cost 250-300 mil pounds, based on goals scored and impact made, I seriously think so.
Also, what makes you think we must spend every single cent from player sales on new players? Can't we keep the money for a new stadium or refurbishment on the existing one to remain competitive with the elites in the league? That is what I hoped for when FSG took over. Somehow things went wrong since the appointment of RH as manager. If you think FSG, a sports management company, should spend the way like a Mansour, sorry, we must get a new owner for LFC, or, support Chelski or Mansour City.
That's business, dude.
He has only had a couple of games as playing the role of a playmaker at LFC gilstrap.
ReplyDeleteAllen has played majority of his time at LFC as a holding midfielder. Surely you are able to understand that Allen was playing a role that was not fully suited to him but had to because Lucas was injured.
Now only Allen will play the role which Rodgers has signed him for so give the young man a break. Rome was not built in one day.
If you were never one of those who ridiculed Lucas and allowed him time to grow as a player then surely you should not be saying things about Allen like "at the moment he isn't cutting it".
Allen needs time just like Lucas did. Lucas never really cut it in the beginning did he but patience prevailed.
We have had plenty of possession but plenty of mistakes have come from all this possession as well costing us points! I like Allen he doesn't usually give the ball away and his neat and tidy but when fans say he isn't a defensive midfield player what is he then? Box to box midfielder? Going to turn into an assist and goal scoring midfielder for us? Hoping when Rodgers gets the players Allen needs to really perform in midfield we will see the real Joe Allen step forward because he hasn't really clicked with Gerrard, Sterling or Suarez at the moment.
ReplyDeleteI just hope we can have more of this winning margin the next 3 games before meeting the 2 Manchester teams and Arsenal away. Hopefully we can get some positive results from them too. Then we will be in a comfortable position fighting for fourth in the league.
ReplyDeleteGreat win tonight, nonetheless!
Did I say that you were wrong anywhere in my posts?
ReplyDeleteScored and assisted, for fcuk sake! are you pro Liverpool, or contra Downing?!?
ReplyDeleteWell, maybe if you saw all the matches from the start of the season you will realise that Allen was sitting in for Lucas. Really, there is just no point in discussing anything with you guest.
ReplyDeletePlease answer the following questions and then that will paint a better picture for you with the situation which Allen found himself in when he joined the club up and until Lucas returned from injury.
1. When did Lucas get injured this season and who was filling in for Lucas?
2. When did Lucas return from injury?
3. How many matches has Allen played as a defensive midfielder?
4. How many matches has Allen not played as a defensive midfielder?
5. How many matches will it take for Allen to settle in the role Rodgers has planned for him?
and lastly
6. How long is a piece of string?
If we do not leave the goal burden solely to Suarez then the results will follow.
ReplyDeleteWe have created more than enough chances in all our matches so if others besides Suarez can continue to chip in with goals then the results will follow.
Football is a team game and today's result is proof of that.
Let's say if Downing continued to play like that would you guys still sell him or not? Would it be better if he really starts performing after a long wait or is it still better to cut our losses?
ReplyDeleteAllen should of been taken out of the firing line several games ago when his form was dropping...im just stating facts..its no use saying hes playing well when hes not...especially as we have other alternatives...as for playing with lucas....i just think its a very negative pairing...it doesn't help that rogers is always bigging him up it increases fans expectations of him
ReplyDeleteIt's the fact that you're cutting him no slack at all. His last 2 or 3 outings weren't bad (apart from switching off for that goal) and today was pretty good.
ReplyDeleteRevisionism? it took Lucas well over a season to look anything like a player yet you don't/didn't apply that same ' He's been poor for ages ' approach to him.You supported him when he turned the corner if I remember correctly.
And strangely. I'm struggling to see many lines of praise of Downing from you for today's performance. Just grudging belittlement....
Hey, Jaimie K., stop this nonsense attack on Downing. He was brilliant today and showed that he has class. Give him a chance.
ReplyDelete"Look to the future now, It's only just beguuuuuuuuuuun......."
ReplyDelete:)
In recent games Allen has been caught in possession far to often. That is what i was eluding too not overall team possession.
ReplyDeleteFulham's woeful away record is this season, last season was over in may.
I am happy we won and only 5pts from from 4th, so apologise for sounding negative not my intention.;-)
A whole season of "outstanding" performance may warrant a verdict of "Outstanding" player. Let alone a game. Downing's time has expired for some time now. Well and good he had an o..............g game today.
ReplyDeleteBut seriously I think this will be good as there will be takers in Jan and may increase his sale value.
huh?
ReplyDeleteHe was "outstanding" Today. But Since he signed on, how many assists and goals has he contributed in the last 18 mths?
ReplyDeleterealitey check fulham are crap we played well but imo it just papers over the cracks, said on a earlier post 3or4 nil
ReplyDeleteget a grip it was fulham i said on a earlier post it should be 3 or 4 nil fulhams midfield was missing throught injury or suspension ,one good thing out of todays game was we attacked a lot faster without allen breaking it up by going backwards
ReplyDeletewell well no allen and we attack a lot faster but you can bet hes 1st on teamsheet
ReplyDeleteif you read posts before commenting i said it should be 3 or 4 nil its fulham for christ sake who have no midfield
ReplyDeleteget of your f"cking high horse you and your cronies would be happy if we wer still under gillet and hicks all mouth no action apolagestic set of losers ,pardon me if i can remember when we ruled europe and i dont mean in 2005
ReplyDeletewhy the need to defend allen we won or can people not comment on rodgers and allen in your opinion, the attacking play was a lot faster today back to front and we created clear cut chances not half chances imo,so for me the team should stay the same for the next game
ReplyDeleteif he keeps performing as he has the last few matches we would be mad to sell him or let him go on loan in january
ReplyDeletei,ve always liked lucas (one of the few)but there are a few flaws in your arguement compareing them ,fine they were both young players ,but there the comparresment ends one came as a young player ,one came as a supposed worldbeater, one came thousands of miles one came up the motorway, one had a different culture and language to learn one did not,one was having to adapt to completley different type of football, one as been playing in the same league last season also you go on about allen playing out of position correct me if i am wrong but lucas as learned a new position, cause he was not a defensive midfielder before he came to anfied
ReplyDeleteI read a stat on how many assists he made last season. Unfortunately our dozey strikers couldn't put them in. Who's fault, Downing's or the striker..........???????
ReplyDeleteUnfortunate partnership- When he crossed well, Carroll was off the spot or target, when he was on the spot- Downing crossed bad... They killed each other...
ReplyDeleteFinally a convincing result ,a laudable performance from Liverpool, if only we had been consistent our position in the table would have been much better.Downing (after 1 and half seasons) finally does what he was bought for and i hope he does it regularly enough to prove his worth .
ReplyDeleteNet spend is business in football balancing the books dude!
ReplyDeleteYour saying they have spent like Chelski and Mansour when you go on about £130 million spent in 18 months! Giving the club £35 million for Carroll is FSG fault they control the purse strings. They have tried to spend their way out of trouble but it failed! That's why they have slashed the wage bill to make up for the last 18 months spending going for a quick fix, spending 3 years of transfer money in 18 months!
Redforlife no need to throw a strop! Perfectly legitimate questions! Can't Allen's role in the team be questioned by fans then?????????
ReplyDeleteAllen is a sitting midfield player!
I thought with less possession it actually took some pressure off the team and made Fulham make the mistakes in possession we pushed forward a lot quicker today and Lucas and Gerrard looked in control in midfield.
ReplyDeleteyes i would rather be hurrying there defenders into mistakes than passing the ball backwards and sidewards with no end product you can have all the possecion in the world but its goals that count
ReplyDeleteI'm pro-Liverpool, obviously you aren't, or you'd also want to cut Downing. 1 goal in 18 months? That's who you want to keep around? People here complained about Charlie Adam, but Charlie had more assists and goals, and played better defense.
ReplyDeleteOooh, he had a good day against Fulham. Big frakking deal. BR told him he was going to be sent packing, and he finally played like he should have been in order to impress other teams. Why wasn't he playing like that all along then? You're damn right I'm pro-Liverpool, but one game does not make Downing into Stevie G. Time to send him packing.
sometimes i don't know with guys like u yes fulham are crap so our victory means nothing we won we scored 4 goals and got a clean sheet back the club we did good now what if we had losed... oh yh BR out FSG out.... BACK THE CLUB.... i am behind my club we did very good today and i believe we will continue to do good look at how determined liverpool is now our style of play has improved we are in the january window from early sturridge deal about wrapped up come on man smile good times are a coming
ReplyDeletefootytube.com great site for highlights
ReplyDeletei did enjoy the victory just hope it dose not paper over the cracks,as we have see today with the chelsea ,villa score any way merry xmas
ReplyDeletei understand what u mean i don't think so though think liverpool is coming in christmas greetings to u to enjoy
ReplyDeletemerry christmas to you to have a good one
ReplyDeleteYou wish he didn't play. Not pro Liverpool.
ReplyDeleteForgive me Orme, I didn't realize I was dealing with an internet troll, looking to start a Monty Python Argument Clinic immitation.
ReplyDeleteFor the record, those of us with more of a third grade education can actually be pro-something and recognize a bad part of it. For example, if my body were Liverpool, I could be pro-life while still wanting the tumor that is Stweart Downing removed. I know, it's subtle and takes more than your 88 IQ to grasp. But stay with me...
As I outlined above, Downing adds nothing to the offense. Yes, he had one good game. Only one game in the last 18 months. It came against a Fulham team that we would have beaten anyway with or without him on the field.
Now I'm sorry that I don't get the same hard-on you do for Stewart Downing. But not wanting a crap player on the pitch doesn't make me Anti-Liverpool, especialy when I want a BETTER one in his place. I know, I know, it's hard for someone like you to follow.
By the way, apparerntly the coach, Brendan Rodgers is anti-Liverpool in your eyes, because he pulled Downing's ass off the field against Stoke today. And again, Downing added nothing to the game on offense, or defense. So yes, Brendan Rodgers by your stupid little 3 year old boy's argument is not "Pro-Liverpool"
So Orme, why don't you just sit back and drink a nice big cup of STFU, and let the big boys talk.
