Earlier this week, Blackpool winger Thomas Ince admitted that he was 'flattered' to be linked with a return to Liverpool, and with the January transfer window fast approaching, speculation is rising that the youngster could be one of Brendan Rodgers' first signings of 2013.
According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool are 'willing to pay the price' for Ince, are the club is 'confident of finalising a £6million deal', for the youngster, who left Anfield for £250,000 in August last year.
Speaking to the Blackpool Gazette on Monday, Ince - who has 10 goals/6 assists in 14 starts for the Seasiders so far this season - said:
“It is flattering to have all that interest. It’s great - it shows you are playing good football and are in good form".
Liverpool are clearly serious about a deal - Academy Director Frank McParland went to watch Ince play for England's Under-21s in their win over Northern Ireland at Blackpool on earlier in November.
Many Liverpool fans feel that the club let Ince go too early, but the reality is it was his choice to leave, and the youngster has no regrets about doing so. He observed:
"I worked with some great people [at Liverpool] like Steve Heighway and Hughie MacAuley and I had a great schooling, but I didn’t want to sign a four-year deal and not play.
In an Interview a few weeks ago, former Blackpool manager Ian Holloway revealed some further details about why Ince left Anfield. He explained:
"What held him [Ince] back was he went to a club [Liverpool] that had an academy and there was no way through. He got fed up with that so he came and learnt his trade here. God knows what he could do with one of their [Liverpool's] shirts on now. He has been absolutely unplayable for us and has been outstanding in such a short period of time.
Ince - dubiously labelled the 'English Messi' - grabbed 16 goals and assists in 29 starts for Blackpool last season, which is a great return for a 20 year old, and if not for a cruel late goal in the play-off final, the youngster could've been playing against Liverpool in the Premier League this season.
If the Reds end up signing Ince it will be a tacit admission that the club made a mistake (in creating the situation where he felt he had to leave), but to be honest, if he comes back to Anfield and does the business, who cares?

Why did we sell him?
ReplyDeleteHe wanted to leave. His reason are in the article (Didn't want to sit on the bench etc)
ReplyDeleteHe's not good enough. Will play a few months then get shipped out, just like the last left footed player we signed from Blackpool
ReplyDeleteAsk Kenny Dalglish. Also please ask him why he bought Andy Carroll and Steward Downing!
ReplyDeleteWell he's better than Cole, Downing and probably Assaidi. He won't cost a forturne with our 30% discount (or whatever the figure is).. And it would be such a kick in the teeth if he went to Utd and did really well..
ReplyDeleteI agree theres nothing wrong with admitting to a mistake and if he came back and done the business, who cares indeed ..
ReplyDeleteTrouble is I'm not too sure he'd do the business.
People need to get over the 'if he went to united' mentality. It's not a good enough reason to splash 6m on a player. I wouldn't be surprised if Fergie was winding us and Inces price up again like he did with Charlie Adam !!
He wanted first team action which Kenny Dalglish could not guarantee. There was a contract offered which he rejected and decided to move on, it's not like we told him to go we offered a contract.
ReplyDeleteWould love to see him back though under BR he will get first team action and id rather see him in our side then Sturridge which is rumoured.
jaimie asked you earlier i had 4 peplys to my post but when i went to look at them they had all vanished is the site going throught changes?
ReplyDeleteIf Utd were interested, he'd go to Utd.
ReplyDeleteIt's 10 in 14 in the Championship, that's all. Not so long ago, everyone was raving about Jordan Rhodes...
rhodes scored 2 for scotland and a hattrick for blackburn last week, raving about him we should have signed him would imo have been perfect for lfc
ReplyDeleteKenny didn't get rid of him.. He wanted Guarantees we couldnt make . Although I think £6m for him is a bit steep
ReplyDeletehis contract was up and we offered a new contract which he refused so Kenny would have liked to keep him just couldn't guarantee him first team action so it was his decision to leave he wasn't forced out...
ReplyDeleteI don't think Liverpool should sign him back, he is doing great at Blackpool but i don't think he is good enough for Liverpool, if our ambitions are to compete at the very top in the future.
ReplyDeleteAnd Rhodes has 9 goals and 2 assists in 14 games for Blackburn...
ReplyDeleteDon't forget Charlie Adam & Jordan Henderson!!!
ReplyDeleteWe won't be signing him back.
ReplyDeleteI can understand KD giving Henderson & Adams a chance because they were his buys but you can't legislate for Spearing having an opportunity. TBH none of the youngsters were ever given a real chance until this season, think he could improve under BR!
ReplyDeleteI certainly didn't see anything in that highlight reel that makes me take notice. Good ball handling but can't finish...don't we already have a stable full of those guys? I really like Sterling, Suso, sahin and assaidi. I think they're gaining confidence weekly. I could see it in Suso and especially Assaidi on Thursday. We don't need another shrimp at striker. We need muscle...a big guy with a quick release, cannon for a shot, good in the air and somebody who can dominate inside the 18. Ince isn't that guy.
ReplyDeleteMuch respect for KD, but he really set us back last year. The affects linger even to now, whether its the wasted money, or his refusal to play players like Kuyt, Maxi , and others who linked well with Saurez and could of given us a better season. He hurt the clubs profile with all middle table performances. The fans and sentiment are to blame for his initial appointment.
ReplyDeletekenny won a cup and got us to a final with a victory over everton and both mancs kenny was great until lucas got injuried thats why he setup momo diame and walcott deals and andy carroll looked good until brendan took over and led us to greatness plus downing is ok never a 20m player but 12m maybe but ashley young turned us down and adam johnson wernt forsale unlike this summer and what about comolli FSG'S man who set fee's we were top4 this time last year but fans are fickle
ReplyDeletehendo will come good. just needs a bit of psychological training to find that killerninstict.
ReplyDeleteYou described Cavani and Llorente. hope it comes true..
ReplyDeleteFans are fickle, how true. They moan about the mediocrity we have to endure now, but bang on about winning the League Cup, which is at best a mediocre cup competition. Good thing about it is the European qualification which we would have missed out on otherwise.
ReplyDeleteCarroll actually looked very poor for a very long time until he seemed to get better late last season. He isn't getting the best of appraisals right now either. Ashley Young turned us down, right. Why go for a second rate player then who is more expensive instead of looking for a player equally good as the original target instead? Yes, fans are fickle. They credit a manager they like with all the good things and put the blame on the door of someone else.
Yes, either of those two guys are exactly who I'm thinking of. Although Huntelaar would be good too...but he's not the dominator the other two are.
ReplyDeleteKenny doing the mistakes....he afraid to using youngest players very good. Now plaese look to Sterling,Suso,Wisdom,Shelvey and others. Now he to explain why he sell out good young player and invest wrong players like Downing,Henderson and others. He destroy legend reputation with crashing LFC SQUAD.I think LFC didn't need to call back this player and let him grow up his carrier.
ReplyDeleteI think it is time we passed on from all the " ask Kenny to explain....". He is gone. He is not here anymore. He is not a member of our staff. He is now history. He is not available for comments. He is the past!
